    For those who want to see Pauly give a clinic to the Amish, the ones who see value in the animal already take great care of them. They realize that a healthy animal works harder and lasts longer. The Amish who DON'T see any value in the animal are the ones who mistreat, abuse, and breed for quantity, not quality. They are the ones who need the clinic, but would never take the time to learn from it.

    I feel LuLu's left eye can be healed with vigilant care. I have healed many horse eye injuries. I agree with your vet, that is a recent injury. When our mare injured her eye and she got fussy with eye ointment I applied cold pressed castor oil. it heals and takes pain away. Even when only applied to the eye lid. It goes deep into the tissues. In the old days eye doctors applied it.

    So emotional watching this one. These horses are in bad shape and it would seem that the last act of Kindness is going to be given to several of this bunch. Neglect, abuse, pushed to perform without proper feed and care....Ya, I am not pleased with many of the Amish regarding their horses or the ones that are running some of the largest puppy mills in the country. Meanwhile angels like you guys are trying to give a chance to horses whose owners cared little. God bless you all.

When he drives between jobs could he talk into his phone or a tape recorder, then let us fans type it up for him? I don't want to wait until he has time for his book. Just a suggestion, maybe you can go to your closest Amish and let them know that you will purchase the horses for an amount,you may be able to keep a few horses away from the auctions. Some Amish have ways of getting ahold of the English.

    • @PonyTalesRefuge
      @PonyTalesRefuge  3 місяці тому +1

      We have talked directly to some Amish before. They typically want as much money as they can get for the horse no matter it's condition and they believe that having them go through the auction is the best way to do that. Especially since the buyers/bidders get little to no hands-on with the horse to notice any problems they are not disclosing.

    Pauly, you would be disgusted at what the owners did to a mare that I brought from them, along with a half bed colt, the mare was a little over half bred of the breed I am addicted to (Cleveland Bays - partbreds for sporting - Id die fo a couple of pures, but barely a\grainy avvailable here in Aus.
    They loaned us a vhs video (thats how long ago it was) to show how they got her to raise her feet high for her single and pairs harness and rtdden work. I was mortified to see them along with their farrier when shoeing her put largeish metal car hose clamps under the bottom of the heel or the shoe, up around the coronet band and tighten it up til she was fussy and annoyed about it all. There was NO chance in hell that was EVER happening in our hands. I posted the tape back to them as asked, didnt share it with any other CB or horse people (cos they knew they didnt thr right thing) as requested.... BUT they did not say dont take to RSPCA or rhe Area Animal Control ffor the council. so they got a copy and full report.

      Never ceases to amaze me how fat and unskilled all the Big Lick riders are! It could be shut down within a year, according to the folks at Horse Plus Humane Society's channel. Let's hope it is!

    Think Pauly should give a farrier clinic to the Amish. Am sure they want their horses to last as long as possible and if they take better care of their hooves, once they are ready to be replaced, hopefully you won't see so many hoof issues once you guys get them. Just a thought - am sure someone has a contact, even if it's an auction house, right? Hope that helps.

      They are choosing NOT to hire a farrier. Pinching pennies costs in the long run wh I'm sure they know. As he said some are good others not so. Rather than a farrier we need a pastor to remind them God gave them stewardship over animals and that includes responsibility and care.

    Why would a kill buyer not want a blind horse? Serious question.

    • @PonyTalesRefuge

      Technically, blind horses cannot be sent to slaughter. It happens all the time though.

    I’m pretty sure “legally” he couldn’t ship a totally blind horse, and not across the border for sure. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.

    I’m am curious because I really don’t know, why aren’t x-rays taken of the hooves as standard of care of every horse as SOP at intake. Are the x-rays with your machine expensive? I honestly don’t know. I know y’all care about the horses you take in so please don’t take this question as criticism.

    • @PonyTalesRefuge
      @PonyTalesRefuge  3 місяці тому +3

      We do not have the manpower and staff to x-ray every horse right as they come in. Once they go through their evaluations and quarantine, we are then better able to narrow down what we may be looking for. It's not so much a cost thing, as it is time and manpower.

I’m way down in Texas but found out about your organization through Horse Plus in TN. I hope by viewing your videos and hitting the thumbs up button that is some help.

      @@PonyTalesRefuge I wish so much I could volunteer with you, but I'm in northern Alberta. No green card, no place to stay. I'm looking for a similar place within a reasonable drive from here. All the best to you all there, and so much love to you for all that you guys give to those poor neglected and abused horses!
