Hi Carrie, you can make your own garlic aioli.
    3/4c Mayo
    3 cloves garlic minced
    2 1/2 T lemon juice
    3/4 t salt, 1/2t pepper
Also bulk nuts last longer if you freeze them. Enjoyed watching ❤️

Hey Carrie. Since you’re moving to the Wairarapa you might be interested in checking out Bin Inn - they’re a bulk foods store who sells bulk grains, nuts, flours etc. You can bring your own containers or jars too to save on waste.
The other grocery store you’ll want to check out is Moore Wilsons. They’re a family owned specialty grocery store and sell a lot of “hard to find” items that you can get anywhere else.
Both these stores you can find in Masterton (and around the Wellington region).

Totally agree - Moore Wilson's is a great place to shop. It is geared toward selling to restaurants and hospitality and so great for shopping for bulk discounts. But it also has speciality goods such and local meats and breads plus lots of imported food.
      Welcome to the Wairarapa!

Hi Carrie, when I heard you talking about how you felt when you woke up, all teary and emotional, it took me back to my 20s. I could never understand why I would sometimes wake up feeling like this, I didn't want to have to make decisions and felt like I couldn't even get out of my own way some of the time. It was quite a few years later that I realised that it always coincided with a certain time of the month. Yep, a typical example of PMT. When I researched what I could do to help overcome it, it was am emotional weight lifted off my shoulders.

Hi Carrie. If you like to shop in bulk and find organic and natural products the big supermarkets don’t stock then try the Bin Inn stores. They are all over NZ. If you are still in the Taupo area then there is one at the Spa Gate shopping centre (not far from Countdown). If you like nuts and seeds then this is the place for you.

I laughed so hard when that map came up! I thought, “Incredible- she was able to find a map that has New Zealand on it! Must have been put out by the Kiwi’s!” Lol. Glad you filmed the video despite your feelings. I get in moods like that too, where I just feel so sad, and I don’t know why I exactly feel so sad. But I, like you, just move through the feeling, embrace it, give myself a lot of self-love, look at it to see if there’s any less than I can learn from it, or any take away points that are pointing me toward some needed changes, and then try to find some thing that makes me feel better. Good for you for posting your real feelings! Your food looks yummy too!.. I hope you’re feeling better! Fun video! Looking forward to two videos a week!

I am also so happy to see you promoting locally-grown food and minimizing plastic waste. I would love to see more environmental consciousness videos from you. Anyway, I'm very excited to follow along your New Zealand adventures. Funny you showed the TJ haul, I've been watching your videos since then! Sending hugs your way 🧡

I really enjoyed this video! I miss Mexican food too here in NZ, being from California. It’s good to know that Countdown has some good Mexican ingredients. My hubby and I have found that PakN’Save has the best prices. Before moving to NZ, I heard that Whittaker’s chocolate is the best, and it’s very true. I love the peanut butter Whittaker’s chocolate and the hazelnut is quite nice too. Thanks for sharing such good tips for grocery shopping. Take extra good care during the lockdown!

We eat a lot of Paprika and Cumin and Oregano, and we were buying a lot of these little spice packets. We've been told to get them at the Moore Wilson's bulk store (there's one in Wellington where we live)! It costs like 5 dollars and you have like 500g of your favourite spice, and you can fill up your spice containers as you go. It's amazing.

Hi Carrie (and Alex and Lanka) I was thinking you should try kefir ( I think it is pronounced ke-fur) and then you showed us it. My family make it ourselves just using full cream milk ( organic is the best but we just use home brand) and you buy kefir grains online. There are all sorts of kefir grains such as water grains that you use water instead of milk and then the milk grains. It takes a bit to get use too but there are so many videos on you tube about it. My favourite video is from 'Simple living Alaska'. Just thought I would tell you about it just in case you wanted to try it out. Best of luck if you do try it. All the love from Australia

When you're settled with all your jars you need to look up Bin Inn for bulk foods, I think your closest one will probably be Masterton. They also have loads of organic and wholefood. They're also one of the only places you can get a Kiwi classic - tatties. They look like pasta and you drop them in boiling oil and they puff up into a delicious snack food, not great for you because of the oil but sooooo yummy and not terrible as an occasional treat and making them is half the fun.
FYI if you're missing anything from home there's an American store in Johnsonville and NikNaks Dairy in Cuba St in Wellington has a lot of American Candy.

I wonder, when you move into your new house, will you be making your own compost? I've always enjoyed doing it myself rather than buying it from the store.
Also, you may already know but some of the Countdown supermarkets have soft plastic recycling bins where you can drop off all of your plastic packets and wrappers. They recycle them into fence posts that they use on farms around the country. And they are better for the environment and last much longer than timber posts. Obviously, the less plastic you buy the better but this can be good for some of the plastic that you do still have.

Food is more expensive but when you add up all your expenses, especially health care things work out the same if not cheaper. It is frustrating though when we have to pay world market prices for things like milk and lamb. I think they are way too expensive when 95% of our milk produced goes overseas.

Oh my God! You made me so hungry. I wish we could get all those yummy groceries here, but I just try to be creative with what we can get. BTW, love Mexican food. 😘🤗🌼🇻🇪

Chinese garlic is bleached (that’s why it’s so white) and sprayed with methyl bromide a highly toxic insecticide, most NZ garlic should be pesticide and fungicide free but to be sure buy certified organic.

I totally get the Mexican food thing. I’m from SD and the American Mexican food from my area is, in my opinion, the best in the US. It’s so so good!

If you come back down to the South Island seek out a Raeward Fresh store.... they're excellent for the type of foods you showed here.

Hey Carrie, I'd highly recommend checking out Tio Pablo's online store. They have an amazing selection of speciality Mexican goods like dried chillies and ingredients that can be hard to find even at supermarkets which usually only carry a couple of items. I'd also love to see some cooking videos for your authentic Mexican recipes!!

Just a note - The Almond milk may be made in New Zealand but it will probably say in small writing ‘from local and imported ingredients’. So the almonds are likely still from California, just squished here in NZ 👍

Do you have Massel 7s stock cubes in New Zealand? They are really good and FODMAP friendly.

I love making my own salsa too as you always have way too many in the garden as they grow like weeds here lol. And it freezers great or canning. Also love making my own basil pesto as my plant is huge. And making chutneys is my favorite.
I love siracha sauce its my fav, but might have to try a new chilli sauce yum.

Love tio pablo 😍 You can order from their website and I’m pretty sure it’s free freight nz wide. They might not carry the full range at your local since your in a more rural area 🙂
Have you see the “Rotten” episode about garlic on Netflix? So interesting!

I wonder if you will find your grocery bill go down when you move.. whenever we go to Taupo we notice things are more expensive since it is classed as a “tourist” town, same as places like Queenstown 😅 it’s also funny the differences between supermarkets in certain parts of NZ. Some places NW is better, some places countdown is! There are some really great places to buy your local nuts etc online- like nourish & thrive 😋 also you should totally try the “proper crisps tortilla chips” they’re amazing! really loving your content here in NZ 🥰
