  • Making fresh meals for my family of 7 is a nonstop task! From snacks to dinners, the kitchen is always open, particularly when gardening tasks are added in. Today I am bringing you along as I show the craziness that is a life at home with 5 kids, and no time to lose, as well as sharing what has been my Achilles heel in the kitchen lately.
    The "menu" for this episode includes pork roast with fresh green beans, corn on the cob, watermelon, fresh vegetable trays, a huge cobb salad, popcorn, and my take on a Fontega chicken sandwich.

    I love your corn on the cob idea. I am going to try it. My favorite green bean that my husband grows is the blue lake. It’s perfect every single time and tender and delicious.

      I need to look into dilly beans. This sounds like a great idea. Do you have a favorite recipe!

    I love your beautiful kitchen and how you involve your children in the meal preparations.

      Thank you! Our home was built in the early 1900’s, so when we renovated, it was important that it not feel “new,” but like it fit with the age of the home. It was a definite labor of love!
      As for the kiddos, it’s so much easier to involve them than try to shut them out, and someday they will be able to cook for me!

    Curious about your red oven mitts. Mine need replacing.

      These things have been workhorses. I’ve had them for about 8 years and they have kept up. The silicone prevents my hands from feeling the heat.

      I have a few, but the big one that I used for the pork is here!

      I use it all of the time. It is heavy, but a workhorse in the kitchen.

    How long did you cook the corn?

    • @thehometownhomestead
      @thehometownhomestead  Місяць тому +1

      @@trishiagasseling6141 it was about 25-30 min. From frozen, it takes longer than fresh. I check it around 20 min and see if it’s ready and go from there.
