Carrie I have been watching you for years and this is my favourite phase. It's so inspiring watching you two. My husband and I bought our first home recently. We're doing so much more on it than we expected and we love it... Although since having our baby house things have slowed a little. I was never someone who knew how to do these things but it's amazing how fast you learn. Life is beautiful.

I'm from Washington State but have been living overseas for 7 years now. I started for 2 years in NZ (which I'll probably go back to) and have been based in Aussie for the remainder of time. It's so much fun adjusting to new ways of living, lingo, driving, ect. Enjoy the initial stages, it's crazy how quickly you just adapt. It's your new normal after awhile, sometimes I have to pinch myself!

I lived in Australia for a year and when I tell you I relate so much to everything you’re saying! I had to learn to drive manual while also driving on the left side of the road for the first time. I’m a barber so learning the metric system was critical. The temperature conversion, picking up on the new lingo etc. makes everyday a slight challenge. So worth it!!!

Hi Carrie! Those flowers are light pink alstroemeria's! They come in a bunch of other colors too, I have some in my backyard they are sooo pretty :) Loved the orchard chat🌸💕

Hi Carrie, I love the video (getting up in the morning on Tuesdays and Saturdays, sitting down with a chilli hot chocolate and watching your and Alex's videos is my favourite new routine).
Just wanted to say you and Alex have inspired me to get back into the garden this spring, (I just sat down and ate a salad with all my home grown produce!) So thank you for making such lovely videos week to week, the mindset you both have (learn as you go, do a bit at a time, things take time) has been so encouraging re my gardening journey - thank you for helping me get back into doing a hobby I love 😊
Struggles teach us how strong and capable we are. Love your homestead content and especially when you open up about the struggles because you and Alex moving abroad is pretty adventurous. It's probably great fun but I'm sure not always easy

hey super late comment. But if I want to move to the countryside in the near future (not currently married) is that something that I should take as a dealbreaker (not red flag) if my future spouse don’t agree? Because I have strong reasons why I want this life.

Keep taking before and after shots, great to look back a year or so later as you kinda forget how much you have done and what it was like before. I often forget what we have managed to do so far, (kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, lounge, decks, driveways, wiring, new walls and gardens, plantings, veggie garden, orchard etc) just like what you guys are starting out on. One other tip if you need to put in new walls say for a bathroom, take photos that show where the wiring and studs are before you cover the frames with gib (plasterboard) so you know where to drill for hanging bathroom vanities etc. If going with floorboards, try get good insulation under them, you will thank yourselves in the winter. Good work so far, and well done to you for learning to drive on the opposite side.
You have both learned these things through practice not theory. The best way to learn. These are labours of love because it is YOUR house, not a rental. Take your time. Enjoy the process. You're living in a little slice of heaven. Bless.

I think it's a lovely idea to appreciate the wood floors after rejuvenating them. I guess you'll be able to gauge whether you really need carpet when full winter sets in. As a child living in rural south-west Queensland, Australia, we didn't have carpet anywhere, just wood floors and good quality rugs, and our winters were bitterly cold. Back then I thought carpet was the bees knees, now I just love old, characterful wooden floors.

Those pink flowers are Alstroemeria aurea (Peruvian lily). I have them growing here in Auckland and they can become very thuggish if not carefully controlled.
Those flowers are austa marriera or purivian lily. There are native red ones in Mississippi and we can grow the others here too. This summer we went 3 months with out rain. Love your show!!!!!
I have so much empathy for your driving block. It took me ages to get behind the wheel in NZ too. Had to watch it for ages before I could contemplate actually doing it. 😬 Once again, another spirit-lifting episode from a lovely creator. 👍🏼
My husband, kids, and I (we’re a blended family with 6 kids) are moving from Utah to Texas soon and it’s really scary sometimes. We don’t know a single person there! I’ve moved 40ish times in my life and I’m only 31, but I’ve been living in the same general area of the country for the last 13 years. The last time I made a move this huge was going from Philadelphia to nowheresville Idaho when I was 17, but I was in college and it was so much easier to meet people then. We know it’s the right thing to do but it’s such a huge change. The scenery is different, the weather is different, the people are different, etc. etc.
I can’t like this enough…. You are such an inspiration. Been following you for years and years and seeing you move to New Zealand has been incredible. Hello from your neighbour country in Australia.

Hi Carrie. You need to macerate your strawberries in the Peplers Black Rasberry vinagrette... you won't regret it! We usually go through our bottles of them fast!
i completely agree with your point of moving to the country making you feel more confident & capable. like YES i will lift that 50 lb feed bag! YES i will use a chainsaw! it's such a relief to just depend on yourself :')

Alstromerias are the flowers you couldn't remember the name of. They can be quite the invasive pest plant depending on the variety, but oh so pretty in their weediness I love them :)

I struggled with roundabouts for the longest time. I also looked in the strong side for the rear view mirror, and of course the blinker and windshield wiper mix up. I'm 2.5 years in NZ and I had someone recently tell me I drive like an overly cautious new driver.

Hey Carrie. I’m loving your vlogs, loving the difference between yours and Alex’s vlogs. How is Waddles? Have you guys thought about getting goats to keep the grass in the paddocks down? They eat anything and don’t mind the length of the grass, if you put them in the orchard you’ll have to protect the trees in case they start eating the bark. The house looks beautiful, you should be very proud of all you’ve accomplished 😁👍🏽💜

Even moving from metric Canada, it’s a change to see things like appliances and furniture measured in mm instead of m or cm. It seems silly here and I’m constantly converting to a more sensible unit ;)
Just a tip, hardwood floors are very tricky to sand and polish if you've never done it before you may be disappointed
