His most iconic line from Drive could be any of his 20 second pauses between lines of dialogue
That goes for Blade Runner 2049 as well. Hell, his most iconic moment in that film is just him silently staring up at a giant naked hologram of Ana De Armas
Perfect film. Not many A-list actors would've made the choice to underplay that role so much instead of showing off their talent, he basically did so little acting there that he became a joke for a while, people saying the most acting he can do is chew a toothpick. But he did exactly what was right for that movie.
He's one of the best actors of this generation, but what you described, he's like that in most of his roles. He doesn't over act, and that's the same with all great actors. @empireoflightz

He appears so unaffected by the whole Hollywood stuff, like being an actor was just a regular job and he's lucky to be doing it. Very likable and yet still underrated.

I was about to say the same thing. He's incredibly likable.
What I love about Ryan Gosling is that he looks nonchalant enough that it seems like he doesn't take himself too seriously, yet he also has the utmost respect for his craft, the latest example being Ken. He could have so easily tanked the role and not taken it so seriously, yet he was brilliant at 'being absurd'.

Drive, BR 2049, First Man (which they didn’t even talk about but is great), and La La Land are my favorites, although my favorite performance of his is probably The Nice Guys which is also a great movie.

Ryan is one of those rare ones like George Clooney in that he's as effortlessly charming in interviews as he is in his movies.

It’s funny you mention that because I was an extra in the movie they filmed together (directed by George Clooney). Clooney spent so much time just entertaining the extras between takes. It was great!
And Gosling wished me happy birthday on a different day (in passing). He wasn’t in the scenes that were being filmed while I was there, which was kinda disappointing at the time, but I was SO glad to have had a chance encounter.
I don’t really have anything else to add.. I was just looking for an excuse to retell that story. 😆

La La Land is peak cinema. Also, what he said - THAT! That's what the film is all about. It's an ode to art itself woven through the love story of two young individuals supporting each other pursuing their "foolish" dreams. Not just another romantic film with a sad ending...
It’s my favourite movie ever. Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling the best duo, and story about Mia and Sebastian - my roman empire. It’s real. And picture, music (jazz my love), action, it’s so good work, i’ll never stop loving this film.

One of my alltime favorite movies. People debate the ending but that last sequence and look... it just says everything. I was disappointed at Ryan's lack of a win, especially because he did multiple iconic roles in those short years before his break.
"I'm just Ken" , he was the best character of movie for me and also the best song , his reaction would be amazing 😂

Lars and the Real Girl….should not be over looked. I’ve actually watched it a few times. He is so wonderful! The part where he is lying In the tree house singing…L is for the way you look at me!. Love it! The other is when he gives the teddy bear cpr..scenes so understated yet wonderfully done❤️
A lot of them weren't in this. "Remember the Titans", "The Believer", "Murder by Numbers", "The Slaughter Rule", "United States of Leland", "Stay", "Fracture", "All Good Things", "The Ides of March", and "First Man"
He's been in so many good movies, it's insane
One of his film that shouldn’t be overlooked is “Fractured” with Anthony Hopkins. A clever murder mystery.
Fracture*, also I wouldn't call it a mystery film since we know who is the murderer since the very beginning. It's more of a thriller/drama

watched barbie for the first time this weekend and i’ve been watching ryan gosling movies all week. have a massive crush on this man
Barbie was the first Gosling movie I had scene, now I have seen all of them, except ca couple I can't make myself watch, 'Bladerunner" isn't my kind of movie, but my husband likes it and "Only God Forgives". I don't like "All Good Things", but I have watched it. The interviews are the best.

The Notebook came out 20 year's ago and Ryan looks the exactly the same.
I feel like Half Nelson and Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond the Pines have a special place in his heart, as they should. He’s done some wackier movies recently, but he made his name doing those more down to earth dramas about ordinary people. Lars and the Real Girl is awesome too, and really unique.
You can definitely tell the movies Gosling deeply cares about and the ones he doesn’t necessarily remember.

His personality has a lot to do with it. It puzzled me that the director in "The Notebook" did think he was attractive. Of his movies before that one, "The Believer" is the only one where he isn't at all attractive. "United States of Leland" he just looks so different. He is really cute in "Remember the Titans", the part in the locker room where he is singing "ain't no mountain high enough". Dude's done a lot of great films and is a much better actor than he gets credit for, but the one he did that made me a fan of his for life is Drive, ironically the one where he probably does the least amount of acting. What often makes the best actors is also knowing when to dial it down, that movie's all about atmosphere so I love how he says about Refn realising that that was the movie, them just driving in LA listening to music. He didn't need to add much, he did exactly as much or as little as he should've, and now it's a stonecold classic and I still get chills down my spine when I see scenes from it, even having already seen it 10 times.
I liked Drive, but I could do with less of the blood all over the place or stomping a guys head that many times. The acting is in his face, which is what he is best at.
@@actualkarenokboomer3158 Refn has short but strongly hyperviolent moments in basically all his films, you know what you're getting into at this point 🤷I actually think there's more morality to doing it that way than more gratuitious styles like Tarantino's which makes it seem kinda fun, you feel much less inclined to be involved in anything like that after watching the sorts of scenes you describe.
It's the opposite. He did extra amount of acting in Drive because because he had so few lines.
Drive was also my fav of his and became a fan of ryan gosling. Wasn't a fan of god forgive though. Was abit weird

I was thinking that but the most obvious one would be “one small step …” which is technically just a famous line in general and not really his. Still its probably one of the best biopics out there

This grown man has retained so much of his boyish charm. Some are crushed by the world, some mask themselves with arrogance or brashness… I wonder how he’s kept his head so seemingly straight while maintaining that youthful spark.
I have to think he comes from a really good family. He was on Colbert a bit back and showed a note from his mom to "bee good on the show 🐝" seems very wholesome
It's good that he talked about Sam Shepard, another handsome actor 💛, who was perfect as his dad. James Garner and James Marsden also said they thought it was just a little tv type movie when they filmed it. And here we are, one of the most famous romantic films ever 💛
It really shows that they're playing a character. A totally different person. So they forget because now they are them. That's at least what I think.

Him not necessarily remembering all the lines to the movie he spoke them from becomes banal with all the great little stories and anecdotes and insights of those movies he shares. He’s really a gem of an actor and seemingly a good chill full of personality and humorous person overall. I like that ❤

He’s proven to be a shockwave in the film industry including myself compared to how I started seeing him in the beginning. He wasn’t the first choice for many projects and his talent still shines through and now he’s in some of my favorite films and he’s still getting better and better 👏🏻

I don't know what it says about me that I got more of these correct than him. Dude doesn't miss, He's genuinely the most versatile young male actor working today. I've seen this a lot with actors but the ones that are effortlessly funny can pull off drama a lot better than the other way around.
