So the PS5 Pro is running less powerful than a mid grade 4 1/2 year old PC card. I'll stick with my base model PS5 and 3080 TI PC. Just my graphics card has 16 gigs of ram. That's 2 gigs less than the entire PS5 pro.
Exactly…consoles are like toy computers. They are designed to do only a specific task but they are still computers too. If you just want to play games…get yourself a PlayStation. If it’s programming, graphic design, photography, gaming with mods etc…then you need the real thing, a PC. Just enjoy your PlayStation…it’s really good as long as you just want to play games.
@@那人冷靜一點 No, better to fair. Consoles have a good purpose and they have filled it well up until about 2020 when the current gen was released. PS5 Pro is def making gaming taking a step back, esp w/ lack of disc drive. Say NO to all-digital!
Most PC gamers aren't using 4090's... You don't need anything that crazy to get better performance than a PS5 Pro. But if you want to spend $700+ on a GPU, you could get a 7900 XTX & absolutely destroy any console's performance. I'm just using a 4070 Super though, so that's good enough for me.
Here are the problems with the PS5 Pro: (1) PSSR is too young at this time to compete with FSR and not even close to DLSS. This is why it has a hard time with all PS4/PS5 video games. (2) Developers have not been given enough time to update their games to properly function on the PS5 Pro so this is why we are seeing more failures than success, and some developers completely dropping PSSR with their updates. (3) The PS5 Pro has no new IPs to showcase its true power because it's not ready. (4)The PS5 Pro honestly can barely compete with an entry level PC with an i5 14th gen and a 4060 simply because a PC draws more power enabling it to be more powerful with a dedicated CPU and GPU. And lastly, (5) Sony lied to their loyal fan base and pressured them to buy the PS5 Pro when it had nothing to offer - no disc, no stand, no new IPs, and no reverse combability to at least the PS3, and especially at a ridiculous price of $699 base. If I was a loyal fan, I would be pissed and issuing a refund. The PS5 Pro was not made for high end users as high end users even console gamers would rather get a midtier/high end PC instead and perhaps never go back to consoles. It was marketed with false hopes. Sony made 2 major mistakes within the last couple of years: (1) They invested into horrible gaming development companies that made them lose half a billion dollars, and (2) they rushed the PS5 Pro as a prototype but sold it as the next generation of console that was not ready and because of that it performed poorly. Now, no matter what we say however, Sony will still meet its end of year quota because the PS5 Pro did sell but not even close to sold out but I am sure they'll put a dent into their half a billion dollar loss. I haven't owned a console since the PS2 which is the true GOAT of the playstation because I entered the PC world. I knew eventually Sony would release their major titles to the PC world just like Microsoft to make more money so that is why I never looked back on Consoles. But, at last, I was interested in the PS5 Pro because of its PC architecture in a console that Sony knew that now the Playstation must be a PC to survive and in my eyes it was going to be powerful and affordable, and yep, I must have one. But, the launch of the PS5 Pro was a disappointment to me and instead I decided to buy the latest PS5 Slim Digital on sale at $299 with an extra off coupon which is still a great console to own. I will not be buying the PS5 Pro but will wait in 3 years when the PS6/PS6 Pro comes out and hope that Sony does the job right this time. All in all, I just feel bad for the loyal Sony Console fans as they got played and I just hope they returned the PS5 Pro to let Sony know that they own Sony and never the other way around. My simple advice to all: Never be a fan boy/girl of any companies. Instead, shop smart and always make sure you get the best bang for your buck.

You are not matching the resolution. Upscalling to 4K has impact on fps.... 4K DLSS ultra performance mode for example is more taxing on GPU than 1080p Quality mode even though both upscales from 720p
ultra performance is the least taxing on gpu as it renders at a much lower base resolution to improve framerate. it may have a slight load on cpu because at lower resolution cpu comes in to play thats why when you do cpu benchmark you do it at1080p or lower because there less load on gpu. damn you fan boys.
In real life the 4060 pre-builds are very close. They're typically on sale at Best Buy for under $800. Doing a comparison with one of those could be interesting since you can just buy one off the shelf.
Everybody seems to forget that the compare a APU with an discrete GPU - the first one overheats way faster - so the APU has to thermo throttle ...a discret GPU can run way faster . My old i5 6600k/GTX 1070 can run Destiny 2 PVE in 120 frames medium/high settings in 1440P - PS5 Version of Destiny 2 can only 60 - big lols
What is the point of these videos? No one buys a console and cares about what pc is the equivalent. We switch the damn thing on and start gaming 30 second later.
And while I don't agree with these comparison videos because they encourage the purchases of substandard parts for 2024, going into 2025 (in terms of hardware longevity). I do believe that PS5 Pro's value is currently poor. The console isn't subsidized when it really should be - they should have never raised the price of the base PS5, and the PS5 Pro should be the base PS5's launch price. And as PSSR is the main selling point of the console, there shouldn't be a single patch passing certification where PSSR ruins the image quality.
Great video! I love these kinds of analysis. You have earned a sub. I have a PS5 Pro as well as a gaming PC and laptop. I enjoy them all for different reasons. One thing I really love about PC gaming is that it is both backwards compatible and most games scale to newer hardware. Unfortunately, consoles have not figured out the scaling piece. For example, Batman Arkham Knight on PS5 Pro is stuck on PS4 settings. Conversely, my gaming PC/laptop will run it maxed out at 120 fps. It’s something I hope Sony/Microsoft can figure out by next-gen without relying on FPS boosts or post processing filters.
If you were using a 5800x3d or higher you would probably add another 20 to 40% on those frame rates, but I commend you for using a similar cpu to what’s in the PS5. They’re all great choices IMO, whether you want a PC to have the ability to do multiple tasks or a console to just game on your TV, there’s no wrong choice.
Why are so many of these sites trying so hard to downplay play the Pro? Obviously they feel threatened!!! Me and five of my PS5 Pro owning friends are having a great time with it!!!

Hi, I'm a first-time visitor to your channel. This was a fantastic showcase, and I hope to see more from you in the future. Thanks for putting this together! I always suspected the RX 6800 was roughly equivalent to the PS5 Pro, and you've confirmed that.
That console ain't even near that Rx 6800 or 3070, console doesn't even run the same setting as dedicated desktop 2: your running on very good CPU Your getting far better performance Ps5 pro CPU is literally a decade old CPU, it's like i7 4790k performance Pro is like running at very low setting
and here I'm still rocking a 3+ years old rtx 3080. TBH given the price tag, I would expect the ps5 pro to at least match or slightly exceed a 4070/3080 class gpu
Taken on face value, the 4070 and 3080 eat up most of the price budget of the PS5 Pro. That is just the GPU. You need the rest of the PC to go with that. But at the same time, we are used to console's being cheaper, and it is pretty clear with PS5 Pro, with no competition in the console space, no Xbox Series XL, Sony has chosen to not subsidize the console at all. The expectation for most, is not that the base PS5 console would be increased in price, and that the PS5 Pro would be the launch price of the PS5. Just like with PS4 Pro and PS4. Unfortunately, we have all been shafted this time.
Progression isn't coming as fast as it used to. After 50 years Moore's law has slowed and is only going to slowdown more as they are now creating transistors less than a hundred atoms wide. Its getting wildly more difficult and expensive to shrink them further. All kinds of breakthroughs in science need to be made for each shrink. As such the innovations and advancements (outside of AI) won't be coming as quickly as they used to. We used to get 8x-16x more ram each generation up until PS4/XB1. Then PS5/XSX brought only 2x ram increase. We used to get 10x leap (and in the 90s way more) in transistors in our cpu/gpu each generation ( PS1 2 million, 54 miillion for PS2, ~550million for PS3 (250 for CELL CPU, 300 for GPU), ~5.7B PS4).... then then PS5 10.6B (Roughly only a 2x increase in transistorcount).

For the prices a new 3080 is going for these days it's far more logical to just buy a 40 series gpu at that point. The 5600x is proven to be a faster cpu than what is in the consoles as well as the 3080. So that is $100 more than a PS5 Pro for objectively better performance and all of the benefits that come with a PC over a console. and with just the purchase of a disc drive for the Pro, you are within striking distance of the price of this PC which objectively performs better than the console.
@@richardfranklin6003 thing is, a pc player already have a PC. a 700-800 upgrade for a GPU is miles ahead better than a 700-800 upgrade to a newer console. upgradability is always a perk of a PC. so with this ratio, when a Pro version comes out with 700-800 cost - then upgrade your GPU with the same price range. if there's a new console non pro -upgrade your CPU. so if ps6 comes out at 350 -go upgrade CPU since the upgrade today of 700-800 is already that powerful (7900xt or 4070 Ti Super). upgrading to a good cpu during ps6 will remove the bottleneck. then when ps6 pro comes out - basically upgrade your GPU again at the same price - this way you always have a better machine with same cost than a console.
Great video! But let me defend digital foundry a little bit here. Alex did comparison in alan wake 2 and 4070 was above 40% faster there. Even 3070 was slightly faster. He used nvidia inspector to change dlss resolution scale to match the same input resolution as ps5 pro in performance mode. But there's one guy who lies and overstate ps5 pro. Of course i mean nxgamer. In Alan Wake 2, he compared rx 6800 with ps5 pro in the forest with rt. Of course rx 6800 was slower there, but he didnt mention that pc lowest rt still looks better and affects gi and shadows as well, not only reflections as ps5 pro. Thanks for this video! Subscribed and liked!
Yep, I love DF's content and rely on them quite a bit. No shade is thrown at them, just pushing their analysis to the next level so hopefully they improve in the future. LOL - don't get me started on NXGamer
nxgamer's analysis tends to be all over the place. On a select few titles, he did the PC comparisons justice, but more often than not, he has a tendency to overstate the console's settings (i.e., if a title was running on a mix of high/medium/ultra on the console, he would say something like the console seems to be running at PC's ultra or close to ultra, so I would use ultra on PC for the comparison LOL)
your claims is full of delusioned. upscaled is not native. its a fake resolution. even if its upscaled, none of the FPS shown in ps5 pro is better than a PC. 4k upscaled on ps5 pro isnt 4k xD thats how upscalers work. its similar to FSR and DLSS. and this is not counting FG since FG is turned off on 4070. if it does it will leap ahead of ps5 pro by miles in actual resolution and FPS.
So how much would it cost to make a pc capable of playing ps5 pro equivalent quality software with a official dual sense controller since we would need one of these to get the haptic feedback from official sony games like miles morales and sackboys big adventure? So a tower with cpu, ram, rtx graphics card with equivalent vram and a controller. We will just use the tv we already have as a screen lets assume it has vrr and is 4k 120hz.

Also keep in mind the power budget is way lower on the PS5. The RTX 4070 probably on its own exceeds the total system watts from the PS5 pro by 1/3. Ya will need to lower the PL of the GPU to be equal to the PS5 Pro to get Apples to Apples comparison for FPS
Great job with the comparisons and analysis. I only have one thing to point out, that isn't a fault of your own. Some of the PS5 Pro comparisons were using a 60 fps cap compared to unlocked PC frame rates. There might not be unlocked modes or footage available for the PS5 Pro, but it doesn't show when the Pro could render above 60 fps. Also, did you mention what CPU you were using for the PC comparisons? Can't wait for next week's video.
@@TheTerk Just select on the PC 4K DLss quality or performance on the game just how a ps5 pro runs quality and performance 4k pssr on the console :). Its all about how great DLss and Pssr upscales with clarity and performance to 4k :).
In most games, the PS5Pro is clearly slower than the RTX4070, but in Callisto protocol not even the RTX4070 can match the PS5Pro. I saw the RTX4070 gameplay in callisto protocol, and the game diped below 60fps even at 1440p + FSR quality (that's 1706x960 internal resolution) with ray tracing. The PS5Pro version run at dynamic resolution (between 1296p and 1440p according to digital foundry). On my PC (7800X3D, RTX4080S) the game is playable even at native 4K with RT (63fps average in built in benchmark) but framerate can dip to around 42-50fps in the most demanding locations. That's still perfectly playable on VRR monitor, but in order to run this game with locked 60fps with RT (like the PS5Pro) I need to set 4K FSRQuality (1440p internally) and at this point the PS5Pro version look just marginaly worse (1296p-1440p). I wonder if the PS5Pro has traversal stutters, if not the PS5Pro version migh even offer a better experience. I paid $2500 for my PC, you could buy 3x PS5Pro for that but I cant say the game look 3x times better on my PC.

Im not sure if the frame time cost of Using pssr is taken into account here. From my understanding these incurs a performance cost on the ps5 pro, but effective purposes this is a great starting point. Thanks for the video
Maybe Jan 2025 during CES. AMD might tease the Radeon 8000 series which is supposed to have RDNA4 features which what the PS5 Pro is using. Then we might have something to actually compare to the Console.
It's clear PSSR needs more time to improve but I find it infuriating that Sony has somewhat mislead the public as far as the marketing for the Pro's extra performance , raytracing and overall image quality improvements compared to the actual real world tested performance and visuals of the Pro . I mean 500 extra from the base console in my country barely gets you an increase of 20 fps in most titles and with worse visual quality in most games except for maybe FF Rebirth and Grand Tourismo. This is simply not good enough for such a huge price increase over the base PS5 given the way this console was marketed.
They should have never allowed PSSR to work on older SDKs if it wasn't going to be the latest build. As it seems that not only do the more recent versions of PSSR have some issues, the older versions are pretty much unusable. Also developers need to better weigh up their choices, as Fortnite has just proven, the returns of just increasing the rendering resolution and turning on Hardware Lumen were greater in this scenario, with this art style, than using PSSR. If this older SDK issue cannot be resolved, perhaps many other developers should follow suit for their PS5 Pro patches.
No they didn't really they said the GPU is sixty seven percent larger and the ram was in the twenty percentages somewhere and they gave an average between the two upgrade for like forty someodd percent uplift overall. There are a few games that provide an uplift that make sense with the specs, the games that don't run well are shoddily optimized. They said quality like image quality at performance frame rate and the console delivers on that.
Prices should go down eventually as Pro stock rises with time. I have faith in PSSR. AMD themselves havent gotten this good with FSR's upscaling after many years. On first iteration, it's made a massive boost in frames for well implented games. If I were AMD though, Id partner with Sony to find out why they did so well on their first take using PSSR. PSSR rivals Nvidia on their first take using AMD hardware.
PS5 Pro is a custom AMD GPU because in Linux video PS5 Pro outdoing RTX 7800 in a $700 plus build. Plus Developers are using PS5 Pro PSSR upscaling from the PS5 base settings. They not using the PS5 Pro extra GPU and CPU. ua-cam.com/video/T4xAQGwpO10/v-deo.htmlsi…
your statement shows that you do not know how upscalers work. its just explained the actual resolution gained. though its outputing 4k, that is not 4k native. but an upscaled from a specific resolution. it works similar to how it is being showed here. the resolution of 1080 or 1440 being upscaled to 4k due to FSR and DLSS. but even though its out is 4k, it doesn't mean either that its running 4k natively. -thats just how upscalers work. PSSR, FSR and DLSS works all the same dude
U are restricted to max 120fps on consoles, and even that feels more input delayed than on pc with 120fps. That is with mouse and keyboard in fps/esport titles. When I bought an ps5 for gt7 I downloaded warzone for ps5 and I could not play it at all, because it felt so delayed with mouse/keyboard. I am too slow and old to use a controller in fps :P my daily driver ie the pc for all my daily tasks is an 12700k(tuned without e cores and ram at 7600mt/s) with 6900xt(I had 6950xt, 7900xtx, 4090,12900k, 5800x3d/ 2x 13900kf, 7600, 2x 7800x3d) but for warzone with an amd gpu intel and the tuned 12700k is more than enough. as every cpu is bottlenecking the 4090 and the fps is about the same with all these cpus when tuned(takes days to do) I prefer high fps/refresh gaming than high fidelity/high res gaming.

that AI upscaling is missing is not "a deal breaker for you", its a deal breaker for comparison. Ai upscaling is one of the 3 things the PRO brings to the table. but other then that, those compensations are not scientific and can not be done so. why? shared memory: cpu and gpu both can work with the same ram on a way PCs cant. direct access of gpu to the ssd: this exist on pcie 4.0 on pc as well, but here developers can rely on it. if we dont know what the game does on each machine, we dont even know what we are measuring here. still interesting watch! dont get me wrong. but take it all with a can of salt. what also could be noted here: the ps5 pro does it all with 40-50 watts. so even the exact gpu equivalent is not... equal... you cant not buy a 20 watt 3070 or something and expect it to run full speed

PS5 Pro will anyways lag behind because it needs to rely in FSR2 or PSSR. PSSR is known to eat 2-3 TFLOPS of GPU performance, it is only competing with DLSS in very specific scenarios and resolutions and anyways DLSS is performance cost zero. Any comparison with RTX 4XXX makes no sense since its Frame Generation will blow PS5 Pro out of the water. PS5 Pro as is is not worth the price tag considering how relatively small the GPU upgrade is. But it is mindblowing that NPUs are available to the public, AMD already has NPU accelerated CPUs, even Microsoft is running AI scaling tech on ARM architecture with the Snapdragon Elite X, and after all of that PlayStation released hardware in late 2024 that doesn't feature anything remotely similar. If rumours of Xbox releasing a new gen in 2026, it's gonna get ugly for PlayStation. Yes, I know, PS5 is selling more than twice. If you have a 1080p panel around the house, activating Nvidia DLDSR will give you a downsampled 2880x1620p resolution (DLDSR effect also has a small 1-2fps hit on top of the 1620p rendering requirements)
@TheTerk itll work for any game, I was halfway thru the video and saw very little 1620p but saw you did use it later on in another game, but I made my comment by then.. was just more of an FYI tweak thats possible to attain 1620p resolution as you said it can be hard to get non standard resolutions usable.
Also to note... The DLDSR filtering.. 33% default is oversharpened, using 50-55% has more natural results. 0% sharpest, 100% smoothest, middle ground 50-55% optimal setting.
No, you won't, because the panel itself cannot output the extra resolution....It might "look" better, but you are NOT seeing anything beyond 1080p. That is the limit of the actual screen.
@@jonathanwessner3456 it doesn't really matter. It's sort of like super sampling at that point. To me, the GPU is pushing more pixels, so it'll match results better
As someone of at least average intelligence and a basic knowledge of PC gaming, I was able to understand what Digital Foundry was implying. They were trying to be polite about people recommending shitty builds online and it backfired horribly. Their target audience is either console gamers or people making the jump from console to PC. That audience expects longevity of their hardware, minimal messing around with tweaks and settings. That audience is going to dial in Alex's optimized settings and call it a day. A 4070 or ideally 4070Ti, backed by a decent CPU is going to get that job done with room to spare. There is no question that a 4070 can match and exceed all of the feature set of a PS5 Pro. You feed that audience a 3070 8GB GPU, they are rapidly going to run into games where they don't have enough VRAM, and you have the same problem with a 4060. Nvidia is going to drop them hard 30 series soon as well when the 50 series comes out. It is just a bad fucking idea. Especially when a 4070 doesn't cost that much more. That's great that you've singled out games that offer higher frames but more and more Unreal 5 games (Calisto Protocol is Unreal 4) are coming out, and you don't want to feed those low VRAM. It's just too great a risk. I think it is very irresponsible and thoughtless to recommend someone lower than a 4070 for their first gaming PC build, honestly I was going to say maybe a 3090 which is my build, but with the price differentials the way they are, I'd probably go for a 4080 Super if I was buying now, because the 4090 is a little out of my price range, and at least you have Nvidia's frame gen to help you out, and improved RT handling.
Except they did Not recommend someone go w/ a 3070 for their first PC. And it also depends on the type of games the buyer wants. If its a kid who wants to play retro games via emulation or e-sport titles, they would actually be fine w a GTX 1070. Don't know where u got the recommendation thing from. In the end they said the 3070 matches PS5 Pro performance better than the AMD card and the 4070 basically kicks its a ss.
I'm glad this video exists, cause now we can point to it whenever a console fanboy brings up the PS5 Pro = RTX 4070 talking point. I don't understand the people that were dead set on this narrative. We know the specs of the PS5 Pro APU, and Sony outright told us the expected performance gain (UP TO 45% over base PS5). That alone should have put the PS5 Pro = 4070 narrative to bed immediately. The 4070 is ON AVERAGE 60-70% above the RX 6700, which is a broadly-equivalent GPU to the base PS5. I'm just surprised Rich from DF made that comparison in the first place. Even if he was just trying to make a feature parity comparison, he should have known that people would take what he said the wrong way.
Here is the problem though with the last part about Rich making the comparison to the 4070. The comparison was only in raytracing and that was due to the AI upscaling. As far as actual performance he said it was about an RX 6800, maybe a 6800xt which put it on par with the Series X. This is the part that everyone skipped or ignored and just ran with “its equivalent to a 4070” I’m going to assume that since he said it outright he saw no reason to clarify what he said but since people generally don’t listen, this is what we get
@SupaSnupak00pa The Series X is nowhere near a 6800, let alone a 6800XT, and the PS5 Pro isn't remotely close to the 4070 in ray tracing either. It was just a bad comparison.
@@FSAPOJake whether the series x actually is or isn’t near a 6800 or a 6800xt or if the Raytracing of the pro is actually anywhere near the 4070 isn’t anything that I’m putting forth. What I’m saying is that’s what Rich said. In full context to the whole digital foundry breakdown of the ps5 pro these are all things that he said. If he was right or wrong about the whole thing the very least anyone can do is actually quote the man for what he actually said instead of people purposely leaving out important details and having other people just run with it. Because then we get issues like this where you are taking the same misinformation to prove that he is wrong when technically you are wrong about what he was wrong about…if that makes sense. This is kinda like the whole Neil Degrasse Tyson thing where he was on jury duty and said he couldn’t convict because the only evidence available was an eye witness testimony. And the judge then asked the other jurors if they needed more than one eye witness before they could convict. He never said he needed more than one other witness in order to convict. He said eye witness testimony in general is flawed. The amount of eye witnesses wasn’t the issue. And the judge proved it because he was an eye witness to what Neil said and still got it wrong in less than 20 seconds. With that being said, if Rich is wrong and we are going to call him out, then we at least have to be right about what he was wrong about.
He talked about equivalent in RT performance. Not raster. And this video does bad job showcasing equivalent settings and resolution and settinvs on pc because the dude that made the video doesnt even know how to set custom resolution a d doesnt know how to compare visual settings. All he does is guess.

@@jonathanwessner3456 You did not watch the whole video did you? Those points were cover throughout the video and the fact that a 8GB GPU like the 3070 its putting the PS5 Pro available VRAM of 16GB to its GPU it's quite shameful.

For some reason, im having a bunch of Playstation players tell me the Pro is faster than a 4090. People who understand compute will understand that even the PS6 will not surpass the 4090 unless the raster compute goes up by exactly 10x and 30x if you include raytracing and AI accelerator cores. Im thinking the earlist console to compete will be a PS6 Pro
At the rate Sony is milking PS players, the PS6 won't even pass the 3090 my friend! Will prob match a 3080 and Sony will lol all the way to the bank 🤑🤑
TT ...when are you PC fanboys going to give it a rest. You are making it your life's ambition to trash the PS5 Pro as if it scares the living daylights out of you. It's just a game console for the enthusiast that delivers performance similar to a high end PC. That's all. Give it up with the GPU charts and website comparisons. A computer system is more than just the GPU. Clever architecture enables the hardware to punch above its weight without requiring the brute force of a high end PC GPU. Console gamers want better quality than a mid range gaming PC and they won't spend $2000 for a high end PC. $700 is a nice price point to achieve that goal. High end PC graphics cards run really hot, require multiple fans and use a lot of electricity. PS5 Pro runs cool, very quiet, low electricity costs and a smaller elegant footprint compared to a huge PC casing with flashing LED's. A console and a PC are two very different beasts offering a totally different gaming experience. Console gamers relax on a couch viewing a huge TV from a distance, while PC gamers sit at a hunch over a desk glaring into a monitor at close range. People prefer one or the other. I've done both and prefer console. Stop trying to convert console gamers into PC gamers. We are fine thanks. Coming up from PS4 Pro, I'm enjoying all my favourite games in higher quality with better performance on the PS5 Pro. That's job done. Well worth the money. I have all my games installed digitally on a 4TB SSD. Everything is instantly accessible without problem solving driver issues, tweaking settings for each game or upgrading the GPU every time a dev brute forces a game due to lazy optimisation. The games you choose to compare are the lazy brute force games that run crap on PS5 Pro due to zero optimisation. Of course a high end PC GPU can brute force the performance with those games. The dev relies on you footing the bill to cover their lack optimisation.
Very well done video I kept telling the PlayStation fanboys that the Pro is not on the level of a 4070. Now does that mean I think the Pro is completely terrible no it is a decently powerful console but that Zen 2 CPU will hold it back in many games I'm betting GTA 6 will be limited to 30 FPS for that reason.
@@TerryMartinART just from those numbers PC is clearly better performance wise, my work life involves a lot of time behind a computer screen at a desk, kicking back and booting up my Pro while on my couch or racing rig is particularly enjoyable, most games I play on it are 4k 120 FPS, I think a lot of this depends on the consumer or mabe I’m just getting old😂
Bet your 4060 Ti doesn't drop your resolution down significantly to keep FPS up tho. Thats the big diff. Most consoles gamers don't even notice those rez drops bc they're sitting on a couch or bed.
@ yep, it doesn’t. I’m having a better experience than PS5 pro actually. On top of that there’s DLSS frame generation who makes things even more smooth with a high refresh rate screen.
pathetic comparisons, just wait a couple of months for rdna 4 and pc will crush ps5. Just because sony got their hands on new tech early it doesn't make it worth it
i find it amazing that PC gamers will always choose the slowest card to make their pc seem better even when it clearly runs slower in FPS. if i had a mate who said they wanted a 1440p gaming card id sell them the AMD 6800xt or Nvidia 4060. if i had mate who wanted 4k gaming id sell them the AMD 7800xt or a Nvidia 4070. Listen its very easy to tell what GPU is in the Ps5 pro. it says 4k like 60fps with RT on so just by goin with those specs we know. Grand turismo 7 runs 8k 60fps upscaled on Ps5 Pro. No 1440p card can do this aka the AMD 6800xt or Nvidia 4060. i appreciate the comparison but i do believe you must run in 4k with Dlss on rather than focusing on 1440p as thats how a playstation pssr upscaler works and focus more on RT games as its easy to run games high FPS on slower cards if the game doesn't have RT. Many videos out there showing Spiderman 1 remastered on a pc run 60fps 4K Dlss 3.1 RT on on a Nvidia 4070 which is exactly how the Ps5 pro runs it so yea my conclusion is still its a AMD 7800xt or Nvidia 4070 and damn well priced for that performance.
awful video, you keep using games that we now are not optimized, wheres insomniac, lords of fallen, jedi survivor, cod etc? All this video missed was dd2 but even that struggles on mid tier gpus lol
Never seen before pc gamers being so hysterically worries about a console , that start making tones of videos about it 😂. That never happened before . Most videos of course are fake . The base ps5 outperforming the rtx 4060 in many games , like Hi fi rush , Callisto protocol too btw , god of war , ratchet and clank , last of us remake etc . The ps5 pro will eat these overpriced cards for lunch . You are full of shit .
Exclusive console games give you the full pwerfomance picture of a console not 3rd party games, because 3rd party are made to run on every machine which means they arent using the full console hardware/ api fully or properly, if you compare all playstation exclusives youll see they out perform a similar spec pc gpu, for instanc in most 3rd party titles the og ps5 is similar to a 2070 super but in exclusives its on par with a 2080 - 2080ti so for ps5 pro like for like comparisons on ps exclusives itll be on par with a 4070, try testing ratchet/ last of us/ spider man 2 even in certain scenarios the ps5 will push ahead.
I’m confused. A 4070 is a 4070 independent of which game is running on it. So if PlayStation games are running “better” wouldn’t that be comparable to Fortnite running better because the Engine devs are better versed with their engine? Does it mean the hardware somehow “grows “ more or less powerful?
@@VGFightSchool yes depending on the games tested, console games perform better on exclusives especially playstation games because they use a different api and architecture to pc, 3rd party games arent usually made to fully use playstation api and hardware properly a good example of this is all ps5 exclusives load in a second and some have virtually no load times while on 3rd party games they load slow meaning they arent using the streaming architecture properly,
@@machinefannatic99 But PlayStation uses it on their own PC versions too. There the entire PS5 library is about to be on PC within the next month or so. Its no longer exclusively locked to the consoles anymore. So does it mean if a PlayStation game is performing better on PS than say my 4080 then the hardware is on par with the 4080? It would mean that the PS devs need to learn more about best utilizing the hardware.
@@VGFightSchool all ps exclusives perform better on playstation compared to equivalent pc spec, 3rd party games perform worse because they arent made to fully utilize ps architecture, because they arent designed to. it takes more time to port from ps to pc than the other way around for that reason.

If it’s programming, graphic design, photography, gaming with mods etc…then you need the real thing, a PC. Just enjoy your PlayStation…it’s really good as long as you just want to play games.
Yup, consoles are for little kids who only play games and have zero knowledge about pc or tech in general 😂

4K DLSS ultra performance mode for example is more taxing on GPU than 1080p Quality mode even though both upscales from 720p
thats not true. you know nothing about pc gaming
ultra performance is the least taxing on gpu as it renders at a much lower base resolution to improve framerate. it may have a slight load on cpu because at lower resolution cpu comes in to play thats why when you do cpu benchmark you do it at1080p or lower because there less load on gpu. damn you fan boys.

No PC will always be better. You can even get better performance out of it and you can fix bad HDR

That console ain't even near that Rx 6800 or 3070, console doesn't even run the same setting as dedicated desktop

Your getting far better performance
Ps5 pro CPU is literally a decade old CPU, it's like i7 4790k performance
Pro is like running at very low setting
and here I'm still rocking a 3+ years old rtx 3080.

Before ppl start yelling about "used gpu", It just makes sense to buy a gpu as old as the 3080 on the used market instead of an absurdly marked up price due to low stock for a card no longer in production.

Of course rx 6800 was slower there, but he didnt mention that pc lowest rt still looks better and affects gi and shadows as well, not only reflections as ps5 pro. Thanks for this video! Yep, I love DF's content and rely on them quite a bit. No shade is thrown at them, just pushing their analysis to the next level so hopefully they improve in the future.
LOL - don't get me started on NXGamer
That's why It is still 6800xt performance level
nxgamer's analysis tends to be all over the place.
Haven't heard of NX dude but thanks for weeding out the fan boys. Fan boys on any side aren't good for consumers. They always sugar coat everything!

yup doesn't even understand upscaling overhead
your claims is full of delusioned. upscaled is not native. its a fake resolution. even if its upscaled, none of the FPS shown in ps5 pro is better than a PC.

Maybe Jan 2025 during CES. AMD might tease the Radeon 8000 series which is supposed to have RDNA4 features which what the PS5 Pro is using. Then we might have something to actually compare to the Console.
Wrong. The real comparison isn't even out yet.
9:05 to 9:58 = not actual ~60fps
10:10 to 12:27 = actual ~60fps
It's clear PSSR needs more time to improve but I find it infuriating that Sony has somewhat mislead the public as far as the marketing for the Pro's extra performance , raytracing and overall image quality improvements compared to the actual real world tested performance and visuals of the Pro . I mean 500 extra from the base console in my country barely gets you an increase of 20 fps in most titles and with worse visual quality in most games except for maybe FF Rebirth and Grand Tourismo. This is simply not good enough for such a huge price increase over the base PS5 given the way this console was marketed.
Yes 👍 100%
They should have never allowed PSSR to work on older SDKs if it wasn't going to be the latest build. As it seems that not only do the more recent versions of PSSR have some issues, the older versions are pretty much unusable. Also developers need to better weigh up their choices, as Fortnite has just proven, the returns of just increasing the rendering resolution and turning on Hardware Lumen were greater in this scenario, with this art style, than using PSSR. If this older SDK issue cannot be resolved, perhaps many other developers should follow suit for their PS5 Pro patches.
Sony does that with every console. I mean they put 8k 120 on the PS5 box. 😂
But Digital Foundry's method of pixel counting is more accurate.
manual counts are less reliable, not as many samples. this tool gets 60 pixel counts PER SECOND

The thing is the pro is up scaling and outputting 4k not 1440 or 1080
All results shown are upscaled to 4k through DLSS/FSR.
your statement shows that you do not know how upscalers work. its just explained the actual resolution gained. though its outputing 4k, that is not 4k native. but an upscaled from a specific resolution. it works similar to how it is being showed here. the resolution of 1080 or 1440 being upscaled to 4k due to FSR and DLSS. but even though its out is 4k, it doesn't mean either that its running 4k natively. -thats just how upscalers work. PSSR, FSR and DLSS works all the same dude
U are restricted to max 120fps on consoles, and even that feels more input delayed than on pc with 120fps. That is with mouse and keyboard in fps/esport titles. Ai upscaling is one of the 3 things the PRO brings to the table.

shared memory: cpu and gpu both can work with the same ram on a way PCs cant.
direct access of gpu to the ssd: this exist on pcie 4.0 on pc as well, but here developers can rely on it.

I did that in another video. the 4060Ti is slightly slower than the 6800. Regardless, PS5 is RDNA2*, so any Nvidia comparison is dumb.
Did you conclude that its equivalent to a 3070? I could not tell and I watched your whole video.
bascially the equivalent is around 6800xt and 3070. because AMD is not that good on RT, so if RT is concerned , then 3070. but with no RT, then 6800xt. its nowhere near 4070. in this video, FG isn't even turned on which will blow a ps5 pro out of the water.

But this very same day it's already possible for Microsoft to release a system with an NPU running AutoSR and automatically splatter PS5 Pro.

@TheTerk normally you are getting more hicups with a slower cpu in the same scenario
If you have a 1080p panel around the house, activating Nvidia DLDSR will give you a downsampled 2880x1620p resolution (DLDSR effect also has a small 1-2fps hit on top of the 1620p rendering requirements)

This is the part that everyone skipped or ignored and just ran with “its equivalent to a 4070”
I’m going to assume that since he said it outright he saw no reason to clarify what he said but since people generally don’t listen, this is what we get
@SupaSnupak00pa The Series X is nowhere near a 6800, let alone a 6800XT, and the PS5 Pro isn't remotely close to the 4070 in ray tracing either.

All he does is guess.
windows gamer at heart lol ok microsoft nividia shill
Great vid!I learned a lot ✊🏾
Glad you enjoyed!
Where these gpus testing in a playstation or in a totally different computer, can u put to
A pc game into playstation or vice versa this video does not take into count. They are the same game, but they're coded different its like using a different driver for a graphics card it could be better it could be not, or it's like playing ur steam deck some games work better on steam os and some better on windows so stop making disingenuous videos just to make yourself look like ur RIGHT
All that matters is the end result aka real world performance tests😂stop twisting basic logic and common sense
@@那人冷靜一點 for a Japanese person ur real dumb AKA DUNCE
Don’t care pc is above and beyond. Plus games is only 20% of what I do on it. What can you do on a console ? Watch UA-cam ?
then why comment... why even go to this video....
Wow, you can do stuff on a PC. Cool story man. Go cry somewhere else now.
Love the attention to detail and you hit all the points anyone could argue. Remarkable work.
Did he? 🤣🤣🤣
@jonathanwessner3456 The information is there. People can chose to listen to it or ignore it. Which will you do ?
@@D71Gaming So, the total system memory for both the cpu and gpu was 18?
@@jonathanwessner3456 You did not watch the whole video did you? Those points were cover throughout the video and the fact that a 8GB GPU like the 3070 its putting the PS5 Pro available VRAM of 16GB to its GPU it's quite shameful.
@@D71Gaming Except it doesn't have 16 gb of vram available. It has whatever the PS5 doesn't use as system memory available. PS5 pro system is NOT running on 2gb of ram. Does that mean his PC had only 10gb of ram in it? I doubt it, and, yes, system ram being the same, or similar, IS important. The GPU does not do all the work in a game
😂😂😂 yea I believe them so much
Not even PS fanboys say the PS5 Pro competes with a 4090. You don't have to make shit up to make a point.
The dev relies on you footing the bill to cover their lack optimisation.
great video man
Very well done video I kept telling the PlayStation fanboys that the Pro is not on the level of a 4070. Now does that mean I think the Pro is completely terrible no it is a decently powerful console but that Zen 2 CPU will hold it back in many games I'm betting GTA 6 will be limited to 30 FPS for that reason.
We don’t care, Gran Tourismo fans especially
It is around 16 terraflops. Think a 4070 is 30ish, 4080 50, and 4090 around 90. I would say a 4060 or less.
@@TerryMartinART just from those numbers PC is clearly better performance wise, my work life involves a lot of time behind a computer screen at a desk, kicking back and booting up my Pro while on my couch or racing rig is particularly enjoyable, most games I play on it are 4k 120 FPS, I think a lot of this depends on the consumer or mabe I’m just getting old😂
The fact the ps5 competes and is right there with both cards says a lot
ahhh you're still coping. you absolute W******
I always thought PRO is equivalent to... rtx 4060...
You should get me some of whatever you are inhaling.
Sony and their fan boys would love for u to believe that 👍
@@lifetree3823Bro probably thinks a 4060 is faster in RT than a 7900 XTX also
You know PSSSR has a 2 ms cost to it? That’s significant which you don’t have taken into account. Like what the hell dude?
Hold on given pssr is even worse than image quality than the base..is ai upscaling a factor? I dont think it is.
You cant compare it to a nvidia card.
I like to give alternatives - so either card will satisfy either opinion
Amazing video that will make sony fanboys angry :D
😂🎉🎉
To be honest, I’m getting a pretty similar or even better experience with my 4060ti 16gb than on PS5 pro 😅
Do some of the Sony produced stuff, Ratchet and Clank, HFW GOWR
On 6000 series adrenaline software gpu auto overclock can remove stutter from games like alan wake 2 and black myth wukong
Blame Richard from Digital Foundry...what a horrible take.
pathetic comparisons, just wait a couple of months for rdna 4 and pc will crush ps5. Just because sony got their hands on new tech early it doesn't make it worth it
Oh man your video is so good and analytic 👍 better than digital foundry and ltt
i find it amazing that PC gamers will always choose the slowest card to make their pc seem better even when it clearly runs slower in FPS.
if i had a mate who said they wanted a 1440p gaming card id sell them the AMD 6800xt or Nvidia 4060. if i had mate who wanted 4k gaming id sell them the AMD 7800xt or a Nvidia 4070.
Very good video. Subscribed. 😌👍
awful video, you keep using games that we now are not optimized, wheres insomniac, lords of fallen, jedi survivor, cod etc? All this video missed was dd2 but even that struggles on mid tier gpus lol
Watch my other videos. Same results.

You are full of shit .
cry harder homie, the testing is valid. You are just butthurt.
I did in other videos. I don't have the by-frame data like I showed today. Both of these GPUs are spot on
@@VGFightSchool yes depending on the games tested, console games perform better on exclusives especially playstation games because they use a different api and architecture to pc, 3rd party games arent usually made to fully use playstation api and hardware properly a good example of this is all ps5 exclusives load in a second and some have virtually no load times while on 3rd party games they load slow meaning they arent using the streaming architecture properly,
@@machinefannatic99 But PlayStation uses it on their own PC versions too.
@@VGFightSchool all ps exclusives perform better on playstation compared to equivalent pc spec, 3rd party games perform worse because they arent made to fully utilize ps architecture, because they arent designed to. it takes more time to port from ps to pc than the other way around for that reason.
not even close. DF confirmed the performance is the same as an rtx 3006ti. I have a Ps5 pro and a rx 7700xt pc with ryzen r 5800x3d. my PC has way better performance then the PS5 pro in 4k
Sony is kicking ass to all platforms 😂
