I came to say the same thing. I’m surprised they didn’t notice. Must not like playing as Evie. Which is wild cause Evie is the best. Jacob’s great too though.
There's no excuse for developers taking out modes and locking you into PS5 Pro only modes that look obviously worse, no matter the resource constraint, and they should be called out for this harder.
The PS Portal did have an issue with a specific kind of micro-stutter, where it would stutter constantly for a few seconds, then stop, then start again, etc. due to a mismatch between refresh rates of screen and stream (I think). That has been fixed. There is still the occasional streaming stutter, but that specific micro-stutter issue is eliminated, fortunately! Much smoother now.
I can second this. As someone who is very sensitive to frame pacing/judder/micro stutters, this does fix that issue. I do still get small drops and blips periodically, but I played a ton of FF7 Rebirth on it this past weekend and had a blast. On to Persona 5 Strikers next!
Would be interesting to see the difference between PSSR and the new Guerilla Games upscaler which they are using in Horizon Forbidden West for PS5 Pro.
Syndicate was completely broken on PS5 in back compat. Shadows were flickering intensely and bleeding into indoor areas. I’ve waited for this fix for years!
They fix the 59,84hz stutter problem on the Portal while streaming from Ps5, thats clear. Bevor Update 4.0 you got noticeble stutter every 10 seconds for about 5 seconds. This is fixed and work now like every third party Remote play app.
You got to remember with UE5 is that the newer features for Nanite as said 46:42 came later, 5.5 has support for Nanite skeletal meshes now but they can't just convert everything to Nanite, there are certain issues that need to be resolved. I converted my Metahuman to Nanite skeletal mesh and it crashes, also some meshes don't look right so it could include more bugs. Nanite foliage is fantastic though, no pop in at all but with Nanite you still have to be carful of overdraw which brings the performance down of Nanite meshes when you layer too many.
WTF Oliver is on here hoping for from software to go exclusive to Sony? Your fanboy is showing! Sony buying From Soft will not fix the frame time issues because both OG Demon souls and Bloodborne have frame pacing issues! Sony doesn't care about their releases with From software and that is obvious. Jason Schrier has stated that even if Sony can afford to buy their parent company that the games will remain 3rd party!
You can target a render resolution of 1440p, but if you connect the console to a 2160p display, some upscaling is going to have to occur unless you're okay with the 1440p image surrounded by a black border.
@@parsashirali8957even if that's the case right now, be on the lookout for an update patch for silent hill 2, where clearly the Pro will be the better version, just like every other game that's properly optimized.
Sony acquiring FromSoft's parent company is nothing but bad news. We already know that future FromSoft games wouldn't come to Xbox at all (if acquired by Sony) and they may not even hit PC Day One (given FF7Rebirth, Stellar Blade, FF16, Rise of the Ronin etc).
@ I’m just saying that they’re making Sony’s interest public which is a final bid, either way they’re getting sold to another big company and most likely Japanese, with those conditions I would always prefer a company that’s very invested and serious about the video game industry, aside from Nintendo, I think the current Sony (that’s now more open to multi-platform releases) is likely the best option.
Actually, it isn't and devs are using old versions of PSSR according to an anonymous PlayStation employee. I'm surprised only Daniel has covered that info.
1 month after FSR first launched, we could have said "FSR has only been out for one month. It will be fine." We would have been wrong, FSR still sucks and is still the worst upscaling option. There's absolutely no reason to conclude that PISSER will be fine just because it's one month old.
Having delayed FROM games on PC would be a step back. Oli doesn't seem to realize that most of From games are multiplatform on Day 1 already. And PC is a very popular platform for their games, too.
For real. Historically speaking, Fromsoft games have released on current gen consoles at 30 fps. It would be really really unfortunate, if more of their work was, like Bloodborne, trapped at 30 fps indefinitely.
What is up with Silent Hill 2!? That was the game I was most looking forward to playing on the pro and all it did was discourage me from continuing it. Just hoping for a patch It doesn't even feel like any of the patches they released were actually a pro patch and instead It was just listed that way Performance didn't really seem all that much better, not some special pro high frame rate mode. And the graphics were broken on both modes. Insane
Same here, I've literally waited for my PS5 Pro to finish Silent Hill 2, Alan Wake 2 DLCs and Wukong with better performance, but right now they're all a mess
The PS Portal stutter is definitely vastly improved. It may still have some occasional issues, but it's so much better than it was just a month ago. Easiest to see is to compare a 2D side scroller that runs at 60fps. On the Portal before this patch, it was awful. Now its almost perfect. I just played Streets of Rage 4 on the Portal and it was better than playing on the PS5 on my TV because the performance was basically perfect, the input lag wasn't noticable to me, and the 1080p screen made the game look incredible. The remote play apps vary by device and it seems it was a refresh rate mismatch, where Remote Play runs at 59.94hz but the Portal screen refreshes at 60fps. That caused constant stutter, especially noticable to me in 60fps games, and especially sideways scrolling. Some Remote Play devices handle this refresh rate better than others, based on whether the screen can match the Remote Play refresh rate. There's quite a good thread on the PS Portal Reddit with a lot of data and testing of the original problem. I'm actually curious what Sony fixed. Did they change the refresh rate on PS Portal or was it a change to Remote Play.
Feel it's a wee bit disingenuous to dismiss the concerns of fans of Fromsoft's games who'd rather not have access to future titles locked to PSN - which may not even be available in their country - or an expensive console they have no other need for because "it'd probably mean better fps"
Expensive console :D You can find Playstation digital version for around 300 dollar. On the other hand with 300 dollar PC, you can open 10 tabs in chrome.
People tend to only respond to things that directly affect them. That being said, I think PC enthusiasts steering the conversation to a hypothetical future where you have to login to PSN on PC, might get access after console and perhaps lose access to From Software titles in specific regions while completely ignoring Xbox users (as well as a potential Switch 2) is really quite telling. It shows me that it's all about me me me me and little to do with the people that will be most affected by an acquisition: the workers at the studio. If you're a fan of From Software games (or Spike Chunsoft/Acquire which just get completely ignored and disregarded in these hardcore spaces even though they make games that plenty of people love) you should be more worried about Miyazaki and other people in leadership positions at From Software leaving because of this acquisition than timed exclusivity. Seriously, these games don't happen without all these people busting their butts making them. Acquisitions suck for workers, suck for consumers and haven't really been great for many companies in the gaming space. They reduce the amount of options workers have by funneling the bigger IPs in a select few companies. This is bad for us, when there are only a few big companies controlling a large part of the revenue of an industry, they can dictate things in such a way that there are few other options. Also yes, PlayStation is being dumb about the PSN login and region nonsense on PC, no disagreement there, I just don't think it's really the main thing to worry about here.
PSSR **should not** be comparable to FSR2, specially when you're comparing to a console with less GPU power. It makes the entire point of the Pro console redundant.
Another Stalker 2 issue that's very prominent (and already acknowledged by the devs) is the broken controller support. There is 0 deadzone on the analog sticks meaning the character becomes extremely hard to control and feels like he's gliding across ice. Now on the PC version you could argue a lot of players are on K&M but that certainly doesn't apply to the vast majority of Xbox gamers. I actually had to stop playing because the floaty feel of the game actually induced motion sickness for me. A simple dead zone slider in the menu would have solved the issue.
So, interesting as it has been for a non PS5 owner, perhaps we can dial back the 'pro' coverage a bit and get back to normal as it just seems to be another slightly flawed upscaling solution that is waiting for a bit of work...
I'm very disappointed with decisions made in game patches for PS5 Pro. If dev teams are not able to make their games good looking with PSSR, why they not stick to TSR or FSR 3.1
I knew there would be teething issues with a 1.0 upscaler but some of this stuff is unacceptable. Shoddy patches being rushed out with seemingly no QA, and that look worse than the base version is absolutely wild. This should never happen, despite knowing enhancement quality can vary wildly (we saw this on the PS4 Pro as well with suspect patches). This is further exacerbated by the removal of the old base modes. Meaning you are stuck with these if you own a Pro. And the implications mentioned here that we’ll all be stuck with these and essentially get downgrades if we move to PS6 for such high level titles is going to be a nightmare. This is part of the problem with a console specific upscaler to begin with even just with the iterative improvements and versions that will come down the line. On PC we don’t have to use the upscaler. But when it’s baked into the game without any way for the user to update this stuff it presents a whole bucket of issues moving forward for any game getting a Pro version coming up for the rest of the generation. Not just these couple problem ones and even just the ones that look good now but would look better with newer versions of PSSR (unless every developer updates all of their games with the latest version we’ have games stuck with earlier iterations of PSSR with no recourse even as hardware improves in later generations. Or what happens if PSSR is later abandoned and a better solution made available by some other means. We really do need to get to a point where console players have similar robust option sets and control over game settings as PC does. Which would resolve a lot of these potential issues. Also, Sony is selling this thing at premium pricing. They are not innocent here as well. I’m sure in part they wanted this thing out there to get some kinks out instead of launching it alongside a new console gen out the gate. But this is the console space, and players are not really signing up to be beta testers. If they can’t get meaningful gains here out the gate, across the board, they shouldn’t have focused on the upscaler as their primary feature (especially when other upscale methods are similar or even superior) until it was fully fleshed out. And they shouldn’t have sold this at premium pricing. No one expects to buy a Pro level refresh console, at that price to boot, to get marginal or even subpar image quality and performance changes. I think the average player won’t notice and do think it’s the Pro it just must be better. Despite being an enthusiast level console, there will be a lot of players who are somewhat tech illiterate that just don’t have an eye for this stuff either. Also, the coloring or contrast on the Pro is much more vibrant than the base PS5, which could seem washed out or flat at times (especially when comparing to Series X for example). A big one where this was noticable was Hogwarts Legacy. In my opinion the color and contrast on the Pro out of the box is superior, and it makes a lot of images pop. Even if they have no other changes present. That’s more of an aside than anything and just something I noticed. Personally I’m very into the tech side of gaming and play on all platforms, including PC. I don’t mind being an early adopter (I had the Steam Deck day one as well) and the games that do see gains are great on the Pro. And I still have my base PS5 for any hiccups that may occur. Teething issues with a 1.0 upscaler were expected, and it’s only a handful of games, but the issues are piling up (as well as implications for the state of these games going into the PS6 and for upcoming games) that this is a rough launch overall. Sony really needs to get this sorted out sooner than later or this will end up a red ring of death style momentum killer that will follow this machine for the rest of the generation. Either way, it has been truly fascinating to watch unfold. Being in forums though I have to say, most people really don’t notice unless they’ve watched tech videos like this. Sometimes, as they say, ignorance truly is bliss.
Gran Turismo has been the most disappointing for me, especially since I had to download the insanely large file all over again just to test the pro update, and yeah idk, the crew motor fest looks wayyy better even
@@LegacyRap7777it looks way cleaner as it's doing nothing fancy, I think it looks fantastic but compared to what GT7 is pushing out at 60fps it's a big difference
Wow those trails on the leaves are still VERY distracting. PC version at least I was able to fix that by editing the config file. Sadly 1.6 doesn't fix traversal stutter on any version so they may never fix it. 1.6 for PC did fix dualsense functionality and the one bug I was seing which was mannequin's getting stuck and T-posing after death so outside of the very distracting traversal stutter PC is mostly feature complete with editing the config and of course a few mods but that's down to personal taste.
A good Pro enhancement patch is an opportunity for renewed interest and enthusiasm that can lead to extra sales, and a great reputation in general can carry long term sales even for gamers who might not have a Pro. It just speaks to technical competence and delivering the goods. Especially for games that are still trying to gain ground on their lifetime sales goals, or which were mired in technical issues early on. Redemption pays off. Developers should slow their roll, take it serious, and take some notes from FF7 Rebirth, Stellar Blade, Capcom, Sony first party etc. And if your existing rendering tech doesn't play nice with a "set it and forget it" approach, either work on that tech or go for a more straight forward enhancement. And if you can't do something good with either approach, don't do it at all... 'cause just trying to capitalize on the "Enhanced" label for a few extra sales and only tarnishing your rep in the process is counter productive.
I wish more reviewers (as in literally any of them) would bring up how broken the AI seems to be in Stalker 2. They seem wholly incapable of flanking or taking cover in any meaningful way (unlike the original 3 games), to the point where simply standing inside a building and firing out will see most of the human AI running in circles, standing in the open, or somehow losing track of where the character is. The first 3 games had some actually clever AI, whereas this one feels like glorified COD AI. All of that is also overlooking the fact that A-Life 2 is either bugged, or outright not in the game. I get that performance is bad, but even if it's improved, the core game is just mind-numbingly easy because of these problems.
Are you guys not talking about MSFS 2024? Haven't seen any coverage about it, not even any discussion points in these weekly podcasts. It had a disastrous launch, arguably worse than stalker, but is the tech underneath is something to be explored?
MSFS2024 launch is a mess! Far worst than Stalker 2 from what I'm hearing. Most PC gamers are talking about it more than the console version topics. I too thought DF was gonna cover it but I think they're gonna wait for patches. Not to mention, the game launch undetected by most outlets
Unreal Engine 5 is awful in pretty much every game. It's absolutely ridiculous nearly every developer is moving to it. The Red Engine that Cyberpunk uses in it's latest iteration is superior to every EU5 title, it runs well and looks great on a variety of hardware. UE5 can look great but always has traversal stutter and frame rate issues. I've a 4090 and it makes no difference. UE4 was bad as it was, Hogwarts is basically unplayable on my pc and it was one of the last uses of the engine.
Yeah, 4 years after one of the worst launches in history (worse than any UE5 game ever btw) Cyberscam looks acceptable... why do CDPR fans try to rewrite history that hard? CDPR is also moving away from their own engine to UE5. For good reasons, their next game wont release as bad as Cyberscam
@@ThomasVvV people have short term memory. they only think of now and not the past. The horrible launch IS the reason why cdpr is moving away from redengine to ue5. RedEngine was making it take way too difficult and long to make cyberpunk thus the buggy and broken launch.
i have a 14900k/4090 and ive never had an issue with any UE5 game. they've all worked perfectly. also, cyberpunk is pretty stable now, but it took years to get there. the devs are switching engines because of the issues they had with the red engine.
@@aquaneon8012 "CD Projekt Red's Art Director, Jakub Knapik, noted that thanks to Epic's collaboration with many other studios there are already many desirable features in Unreal Engine 5. As such, CDPR will benefit from the ideas of other Unreal users." RED engine at its current state has given rise to the most stable running AAA open world game available at the moment. Don't believe me? Watch DF's video's on CDPR's engine switch. Why would the irrelevant past state of a currently perfectly stable engine affect their decision making?
I don't know about others but this Stalker 2 coverage gave me the impression the game has been fixed with the day 1 patch. It is not fixed. Not at all. It's still totally broken and full of bugs as many steam reviews also suggest. And there is no A LIFE system too which is the smart AI Alex referred to. I understand the struggle the devs had and that Alex is a big Stalker fan but let's be real.
Honestly, I'm starting to think people should sue Sony. The whole "you don't need to choose performance or quality in games anymore, we're gonna match both", talk was complete BS, even though most of us knew that, it was pretty much false advertisement
It's true in the majority of games now though. You get the original "quality" mode at 60fps. If it's annoying people that there's still a 30fps mode then that's just weird. Why not give the option for higher fidelity graphics 🤔
the ignoranc in these comment section is amazing also the lack of knowledge by DF members on how dev works and business works Rich says the correct answer and Oliver just spits out trash right afterwards. There is no way its finacially viable to fully QA games that have already launched using PSSR. I didnt see this hate with DLSS and PSSR is literally brand new. ITs called AI learning for a reason it gets better over time as the model improves.
Ollie saying that Sony buying From Software means they may do Day 1 PC releases is one of the wildest things I've ever heard on this channel. Surely that would make it almost certain NOT to happen as long as Sony continues to be obsessed to be the only platform obsessing over hardware sales.
they released concord and helldivers 2 day one on pc, didnt they release until dawn remake on pc day and date too?, When they bought bungie did destiny become exclusive?
you think xbox who own, candy crush, minecraft, cod, doom, fallout, quake, guitar hero, tony hawks, crash, spyro, outer worlds, gears, SOT, grounded, with indiana jones comin day and date give a DAMN about a single player game such as elden ring? you think this lil 4 billion aquisiton thats not even a quarter of a quarter of what activision cost is worrying xbox fans playin cod on gamepass? u crazy 😂
@ think about the future though, everything Microsoft buys ends up worthless because they can’t make their own games they just buy popular ones but that won’t last forever eventually people want new games and Microsoft don’t know how to make any good ones
The opinions expressed regarding Sony’s intended acquisition of Kadokawa were a bit odd to me. Kadokawa is a massive media conglomerate who has subsidiaries in many different industries (anime, film, manga, book publication, gaming, etc.), I mean Kadokawa even owns Famitsu. They also own some pretty significant game development studios outside of just From Software like Acquire (Octopath Traveler, Mario & Luigi: Brothership, etc.) and Spike Chunsoft (Danganronpa, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Shiren the Wanderer, etc.) all of whom work with publishers that offer games on many different platforms outside of Sony’s. Kadokawa was pretty good at allowing their subsidiaries to work with outside companies to achieve their goals, which in end benefits the consumer. Sony’s ever-expanding grip on the anime and manga industries also raises concern. To add to it, Sony is not as receptive to offering their products on their competitor’s platform and not to mention Sony’s recent PC policies when it comes to requiring PSN accounts (that are limited to specific regions) that would lock out a lot of PC gamers from even being able to purchase their games, if Sony is successful, many people from specific regions of the world who have played and loved games from Kadokawa’s subsidiaries (From, Spike, etc.) would not have access to those companies’ future releases on PC. So overall, I think that if the acquisition were to go through, it would be a negative for many industries and I don’t think that From’s games maybe having better framerates on one platform would be better for many consumers who would no longer even have access to purchase their games (and many other products).
I think it's worth developers putting in a lot more time for PSSR enhanced modes. One thing we do know is PSSR is here to stay, moving forward to the PS6. PSSR 2 (and other upscaling tech) will be fundamental to gaming - it already is, but it will become more important.
Wait, did Oliver really spend all that time talking about how it'd be a GOOD thing if Sony bought From Soft, all because it might help the frame rates of their games?! That's it? And you guys are acting like only Xbox might lose games. You do realize most Sony games come to PC much later after release, right? And games like Demon Souls & Bloodborne NEVER have? Crazy to see how dismissive yall are because you think only Xbox would lose out.
Microsoft has proven time and time again that they fail at checking on the companies they own for quality assurance. Not that I’d want Fromsoft to be owned by Sony but it is a good point…
@HeyKyle But MS doesn't own From Soft, so I'm not sure what you're getting at. I'm a PC-only guy, and I don't want future From Soft games to have 1 to 3 year delays getting to PC, or have Sony have them develop sequels to Bloodborne & Demon Souls just to keep them PS exclusive. And even though Nintendo is rarely discussed in the equation, Switch 2 is coming next year. Sony making From Soft games PS exclusive affects more Xbox, Nintendo & PC.
One of the reasons Syndicate in particular would have had a patch is because the PS4 version on PS5 had performance issues, and fairly major ones when the PS5 came out so might be why. The rest will probably come in some kind of Assassins Creed bumper pack or something 😄
I can't help but notice that every game that PSSR has a bad or worse image is on titles that were already dependent on image upscalers. Where as every title that didn't have issues and were highlighted did not use upscalers, which may likely be why PSSR operated so well, because the base image was already good.
Re4 remake looked bad on the base and now it looks fantastic with pssr, same with the crew and afew other titles that either used checkerboard rendering or FSR2
I'm very disappointed with the GT7 pro patch. The game looks horrible in motion with PSSR, everything shimmers like a disco ball. Thankfully you can turn off PSSR but wasn't that one of the main selling point of this over priced POS?
Hey Alex, Stalker 2 was developed and published by GSC Gameworld. Also GSC Gameworld has stated they had to heavily modify UE5 on the memory management side which may hinder them from updating UE5 engine versions.
Stalker 2's biggest issues are the broken scripted "A-life" enemy spawning, and the terrible controller support with no deadzone options. The fact that neither of these gigantic problems will be addressed with the incoming patch this week is extremely concerning for the future of the game. "We are aware of these issues and working on fixes" is not good enough when you already launched the game at full price to your customers. I am sick and tired of the video game industry somehow continuously getting away with this disgusting practice of selling broken / unfinished products.
Not sure if you checked but AC Syndicate has big performance issues on the Pro if the PS4 upscaler is turned on. Switch it off for AC Syndicate and it's smooth sailing. PS Syndicate is my favourite AC after Odyssey so was very happy they gave this free update.
Syndicate was one of the few major PS4 games that didn't work properly on PS5 at launch. I assume this framerate update came out of the work they did to get it running properly.
I was hoping to hear John or Oliver discuss the new lightning modes for the GTA Trilogy. Perhaps we can get a standalone video soon that covers the changes in detail?
The fact boost mode has better performance than PS5 Pro versions, puts to rest the misconception that higher powered consoles will always result in better performance. It is never garanteed. Developers will always want to shift graphics to a higher level and so performance may suffer.

This is bad for us, when there are only a few big companies controlling a large part of the revenue of an industry, they can dictate things in such a way that there are few other options. The problem isn't related simply to Sony or Microsoft, the problem is larger. It's how our system is setup globally. We need better worker protections, and we need to have our global regulatory leadership push back on these acquisitions. Instead what I see is people choosing sides based on some preference for PC, Microsoft or Sony's efforts in the gaming space. This is completely myopic. You can see this with the PC folks that had no issue with Zenimax being bought because they weren't affected. You can see it with the folks who shrugged when Insomniac was bought because they loved their PS4 games. I could go on. I dunno, I guess I wish people just had principles and didn't vary them based on the whims of some shareholders or whether they might have a minor inconvenience. That really shouldn't be the takeaway here.
Geez, nearly 2 and a half hours?! I watched the first hundred+ episodes in full, but these eps keep getting longer and longer. All the little clips from the podcast has made me less interested in either. The worst part of all of this, is I find myself less interested in watching the other DF vids where you still do great work, and at a depth and quality level that puts you guys in a place where anyone would want to watch your podcast
So the 16.7 tflop ps5 pro gpu people are calling that a minimal or "slight" upgrade. But the consensus among "experts" was the 12 tflop on the series x was ALOT faster than the 10 on the base ps5. The reality is when games look this good hardware upgrades are going to yield diminishing returns. Image quality can only scale so high right now. Even my pc with a 4070s running games at higher settings or res it's not that big a difference. Personally I got the pro because I have hundreds on Playstation games and I want to have the best experience with them. Many unpatched ps5 games have unlocked framerate modes that'll at least use some extra grunt. Armored core runs great in quality mode now. Dragons dogma is actually smooth to play. I've been impressed with everything except wukong now has a ghosting issue with performance mode on pro not sure what's going on there. Without a magnifying glass alan wake looks and plays great for my eyes. To me sony has a good issue that being most games run and look so great already even the spec bump most people aren't immediately noticing difference which says alot about how great the base ps5 already is, the pro is just for some of those demanding games or if u want a little more on the ones already in good shape. It's easy to forget the ps4 pro gave better image quality but almost all the big games were stuck at 30 fps so we saw hardly any performance bumps, which the ps5 pro offers on many games already. And to those crying about the disk drive, if they included it and the budget took away from the internal upgrades is that really better? The internals can never be upgraded, the disk drive can be added and id call it a slight inconvenience all things considered, especially when looking at what xbox just got with a digital series x that can never have a drive added or a 2 tb console for 600 and zero upgrades, it has the disk drive tho which is seemingly the most important thing for some!
@@killermoon635 as mantioned the older UE5 has issues with most upscalers 🤷 blame epic but tbh it's been updated heavily since (it's on version 5.3 now SH2 uses 5.1)
@@froggydarren FYI, the latest version of UE is 5.5, released on November 12, 2024. So, games on 5.0 or 5.1 are using a significantly outdated version.
Consoles should offer a menu where you can adjust settings like on pc but to a certain degree. Set the upper end of settings to that which have been chosen by the devs, but give players the ability to drop settings in order to improve the framerate. This setting should be hidden away like avatars unobtanium mode so only a small percentage of users tinker with it.
Unfortunately, John Carmack "type" of developers era is gone. I think, the adoption of UE engine, by most developers, is sign of that! Today, is a mix of greed and incompetence, in my view.
What a horrific take by Oliver on the potential FromSoft acquisition. To reduce the whole issue down to "not really a problem, might get some better performing games" is beyond ridiculous and narrow-sighted. Fromsoft has put out the single best catalog of games by a single developer in the past 10 years. Their games are incredible, and revolutionary experiences that transcend any silly frame rate or stutter complaints Oliver seems to be focusing on. Sony taking ownership of them puts all of that in jeopardy and puts them at high risk of becoming another corporatized, sanitized AAA developer, which would mean the key figures at the studio leaving, and gaming losing one of its last true bastions of pure video games. Not to mentions the major concerns about exclusivity, staggered releases to PC, and PSN account requirements to play on Steam. I rarely see this type of shallow thinking from DF.
It just seems devs threw out the Pro updates as fast as they could to meet the "PS5 enhanced" label requirements, even if that came with mixed results at best. I'm just hoping that they'll take their time and improve the results, following the very good examples of Stellar Blade or TLOU.

Thank you, for me it was useless before the update because of the constant stuttering, yet many people saying all was perfect
I can second this. As someone who is very sensitive to frame pacing/judder/micro stutters, this does fix that issue. I do still get small drops and blips periodically, but I played a ton of FF7 Rebirth on it this past weekend and had a blast. On to Persona 5 Strikers next!

Syndicate was completely broken on PS5 in back compat. Shadows were flickering intensely and bleeding into indoor areas. I’ve waited for this fix for years!
Well you obviously missed it because Syndicate was patched for PS5 years ago and ran The same as X Box and now obviously runs better.

All of my $700+ upgrades are $700+ downgrades!
Why can’t we just build games around targeting a native resolution at least around 1440p on console hardware?
You can target a render resolution of 1440p, but if you connect the console to a 2160p display, some upscaling is going to have to occur unless you're okay with the 1440p image surrounded by a black border.
Yeah, I know. I’m saying upscaling from 1440p is a good start to eventually getting back to native 4K.
The good news is PS5 customer will probably have a decent out-of-the-box experience with Stalker 2 after months of updates

We would have been wrong, FSR still sucks and is still the worst upscaling option.

Are you kidding? exclusivity and heavy censorship will be a win-win for everybody!!!

Watching these videos is making me aware of how noisy your camera shots are as well
Another Stalker 2 issue that's very prominent (and already acknowledged by the devs) is the broken controller support.

In Gran Turismo, when pssr is enabled, you can no longer see rain in the cockpit view. PSSR looks very bad in Gran Turismo.
Gran Turismo has been the most disappointing for me, especially since I had to download the insanely large file all over again just to test the pro update, and yeah idk, the crew motor fest looks wayyy better even

AC syndicate did not work well on the PS5 through back compat. It had a bad flicker glitch that made it unplayable.

And I can’t help but notice you talking rubbish. I’ve a pro and lg cx oled tv the games look better bar some examples of lazy devs like blooper team.
@@pinny_wiz8090 blooper team isn't lazy, they hamstrung with lagacy UE5.1 issues 🤷 on newer builds the issue wouldn't be so much a issue
@@froggydarrenyes unreal engine is bad just look at FF7 rebirth and Jedi the engine is terrible for console games
I'm very disappointed with the GT7 pro patch. The game looks horrible in motion with PSSR, everything shimmers like a disco ball. Thankfully you can turn off PSSR but wasn't that one of the main selling point of this over priced POS?
Yep pssr off is the way to go. Unfortunately
Absolutely right - silent hill 2 should get a better update and a fixed 60 frame for the pro.
Sony buying From Software could mean PC releases being staggered 😔
Hey Alex, Stalker 2 was developed and published by GSC Gameworld. Also GSC Gameworld has stated they had to heavily modify UE5 on the memory management side which may hinder them from updating UE5 engine versions.
15:55 maybe people play and enjoy games instead of nitpicking, zooming and looking at one pixel for 50 mins
Are you gonna be covering Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024?
4:01 Serious image corruption with PSSR there. The sword and shield on the PS5 has been upscaled to a hammer...!
No mention of the MSFS 2024 launch trainwreck? Seems like the biggest story this week.
They are being nice to Microsoft cause Xbox fans are very sensitive people
Syndicate was one of the few major PS4 games that didn't work properly on PS5 at launch. I assume this framerate update came out of the work they did to get it running properly.
I was hoping to hear John or Oliver discuss the new lightning modes for the GTA Trilogy. Perhaps we can get a standalone video soon that covers the changes in detail?
super bad takes from oliver on exclusivity
Ummm no? He made excellent points
Cry harder Xbox is dying and nobody wants it now let it die and move on.
The fact boost mode has better performance than PS5 Pro versions, puts to rest the misconception that higher powered consoles will always result in better performance. It is never garanteed. Developers will always want to shift graphics to a higher level and so performance may suffer.
The biggest issues is unreal engine it’s for lazy devs it’s terrible preformance and all games look same.
Guys when will you be talking about the GT7 pro patch ?
Copied from another thread: If you're a fan of From Software games (or Spike Chunsoft/Acquire which just get completely ignored and disregarded in these hardcore spaces even though they make games that plenty of people love) you should be more worried about Miyazaki and other people in leadership positions at From Software leaving because of this acquisition than timed exclusivity.
I on the other hand want a 5 hour podcast.
I listen to this at work. I’m not staring at this like a movie with undivided attention
So Silent Hill 2 (with latest patch) looks better on Performance mode than Quality mode in PS5 pro because it uses TSR instead of PSSR. Lol
It's crazy now how buying a game day one is the worst idea, guess I'm going to wait more on Silent Hill 2...
How anyone could boot up SH2 on PS5 Pro and think that it's looking better than it did before is startling.
2:17:10 The Deck is a Steam Machine. You can't change my mind.
SH2 running on and older SDK seems to be a reoccurring theme.
Unfortunately, John Carmack "type" of developers era is gone. I think, the adoption of UE engine, by most developers, is sign of that! Today, is a mix of greed and incompetence, in my view.
Move over PC-chumps, make room for the “works fine on my PS5 pro” crowd.
