  • (3 May 2016) PRINCE'S FORMER BASSIST SAYS HE SAW NO SIGNS OF TROUBLE BEFORE SINGER'S DEATH
Music megastar Prince was a man known for all-night bashes and jam-filled parties that stretched into the wee hours, but his faith and the Bible could also keep him gabbing until sunrise, according to his longtime friend and "spiritual brother" bassist Larry Graham.
In the days following Prince's death last month, many have talked about his musical prowess and his cultural impact, but he was also a devout man of God. Prince became a Jehovah's Witness later in life and that in turn helped to shape his music as well as his life, according to the famous bassist who knew Prince for about the last 20 years of his life.
He would door-knock, talk with visitors at Paisley Park and even share his faith with small groups after a show, said Graham, the 69-year-old bassist best known for playing in the funk band Sly and the Family Stone and with his own group Graham Central Station.
Graham said Prince was a very private person, in particular when it came to his health. He couldn't to say much about the speculation over his death an interview with The Associated Press on Monday (2 MAY 2016), but did talk extensively about his late friend's devotion to his faith and his keen interest in the Bible. He said he saw Prince three days before he was found dead at Paisley Park and that, besides recovering from a cold, he seemed "pretty normal."
The two met while both playing separate shows in Nashville, Tennessee, in the mid-1990s when Prince asked Graham to come on tour with him. He said Prince then was already deeply interested in the Bible and they would talk for hours.
"He asked me questions every day, every week _ sometimes we would bring up the sun talking about the Bible," he said.
Later, Prince, who kept his studio compound Paisley Park in suburban Minneapolis, asked Graham if he would move to Minnesota to continue teaching him about God and his faith. He accepted, and Graham and his family moved from Jamaica, where they had been teaching Bible school, to chilly Minnesota.
In Minnesota, Graham said Prince's interest in the Bible grew and eventually, he came to the conclusion that he, too, wanted to become one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He began worshipping at a Kingdom Hall just outside Minneapolis and was not afraid to share his faith with anyone who would listen.
While he said that it was important to Prince, like many artists, to give his fans joy with his music, Graham said the most important thing to the star was being able to share scripture with people from the Bible "that could help them to gain everlasting life, not just a temporary feeling" from a record or album.
"Because he realized like me, my music can make you happy, too, but it's a temporary happiness," he said. "His joy _ his biggest joy _ was sharing the hope of everlasting life."

Nobody really knows what went on in Prince's heart and mind except what he chose to reveal in his music or in his own words. I can only judge based on his actions. As for this gentleman Graham, as soon as he said "erase", my blood ran cold and I hope he will NEVER be allowed any where near Prince's Vault!

Brother Larry Graham what an excellent funk and R&B singer and musician.
Larry Graham was lead singer and musician of his funk group Graham Central Station.
Graham Central Station had hits such as Feel the Need in Me, Your Love and I can’t stand the Rain.
Larry Graham was a gifted bass musician along with the late Bernard Edwards of Chic and George Benson.
I wish you well Brother Larry.

There are artists from that era who knew how to stay humble, kept things out of the limelight, knew how to communicate without exposing things that would most likely make headlines. Larry was one of the few. Smokey as well. They could be disturbed with particular questions but responded with class. I'm still learning how to do that myself.

@@marshall9485 Yes, You are right. I am not part of Jehovah witnesses but i have a friend who is. I think she was baptized 2 years ago? I forgot actually. But she said that she’s trying her best, her and her family to live a life following the bible’s principle. She said that she’s really happy meeting Jehovah witnesses because because of them, she met Jehovah. She also told me thay she would like me to be a Jehovah Witnesses someday but that decision is up to me if i ever want to learn Bible 😅
Tbh, her meeting JW really changed her. I am not kidding. When she’s still in a stage of bible study, and after her baptism. She really really changed. She got good advices from bible that helped even me And she became more understanding and mature, like everything had changed into good! Now our relationship is really really growing because of her changed actions. JW really affected her whole personality, but into good this time!

And if one acknowledges there was a problem.....the next question is why didn't you help?. 'The Jam' is still one of the best funk songs ever made.

He was alone, looked up to you Larry as an artist. Hoped for real friendship from you and therefore became Jehovah. As a result, he was unable to undergo (further) surgery on his (second) hip. Because of the pain he could no longer perform normally and he toured behind his piano. Everything to give to his fans. And you discussed his tour with him? Why did he mainly only sit behind the piano during this performance? Was it really necessary to withhold hip surgery from him as Jehovah?
Didn't know anything? Didn’t notice anything?
He collapsed two weeks before his death and had to cancel a concert. Had to make a stopover for hospitalization on the emergency flight home. Brought back to life with an injection of Narcan against an overdose of painkillers. And finally died alone in his Paisley Park studios just two weeks later.
