      Spike may have been keep it real about prince "not liking sistas" at that time. but prince was about integration anyway. bringing races together like he did in his band. spike didn't talk much except to mention that, and princes hand in malcom x. Come on spike, don't let you're heart be bitter and feed into this race shit... on the bright side, I'm glad he supported bernie. Lol

      I'm a fan of Prince , I think his deal was with the Devil his early songs clearly State we don't talk about love we speak of blasphemy. He also says I'm your messiah I will die for you, blasphemy is a unforgivable sin and that's how the devil can trick you if you want to get out of that contract that you signed with the devil when you come across him you have to know that Jesus Christ is God that's why as the older and wiser he got he spoke about Jesus Christ and the cross and if you don't know Christ before you die you better cuz it's too late after I don't know if it was too late for Prince but he wanted to make sure his fans new about Jesus Christ and salvation that's a free gift that Jesus died on the cross and rose on the 3rd day showing man who exactly who he said he is the only way to the father is through the son salvation is a free gift did Jesus Christ died for you and for me whether you believe in it or not you are going to hell and there is no coming back confess you are a sinner and ask for forgiveness and truly repent and ask Jesus to come into your heart and to be your lord and savior and then start reading your Bible and tell someone may God bless you all!!

    He was the greatest musician/artist in the world. Tributes to him have come from all genres since he died - hip-hop, punk, heavy metal, jazz, classic rock, pop, theatre, even choirs. He influenced all musicians everywhere in the world. But more importantly for me, on top of all that, HE WAS A GOOD HUMAN BEING.. He should be remembered for that just as much as his music. He was polite, a gentleman, well-spoken, and did many anonymous good deeds for countless people out of love. He proved to the world that being a nice person was "cool". The world is running out of good people and he was a tough one to lose. It's different world since he's been gone. Something is missing....... Do good things.

    He said himself "I am music". It was never about the money. The dead are burying the dead so to speak. He had ultimate control until he was ultimately free. So he wouldn't have been concerned about control when he was physically gone. Back in the beginning of the Love4OneAnother project and the Holy River chatroom online, he would occasionally drop in and talk about priorities with people. He was concerned with people who loved music, not money. Thanks for the generous sharing of thoughts and memories guys.

    As the discussion developed it opened up two deep truths. Carol Thompson really got it. He was very much an artist in the same way as Sun Ra, Prince articulated all archetypes & pushed the message of what love truly is & once you get that, what are you going to do about it. He gave every perspective & everything he delivered was filled with the deepest intent of love. He was also an incredibly humane being & did so much philanthropic work throughout his journey. Prince was deeply witty wise & a vehicle of what love is. " Colonized minds" states his observations. His body of creativity was a lesson in reminding every one to be loving creativity.Thank you Prince, you reached so many, in so many ways. Prince transcends this planet & has now made the transition on his journey home. This earth journey was only a very small aspect of his heartful sense of purpose. Race colour gender age time space & language, are all part of this construct, Prince knew it to be all a mere projection. His message was remember, be love, alone yet never lonely. Thank you all for sharing.

    At around 57:58 the convo about The Eighties and the politics and culture of sex is compelling and needs to be discussed more. We lost whatever we were trying to convey back then and all we have left is the music and fashion and not the substance. Prince was definitely a person of color who reigned in all of those aspects and explored every element of freedom. Great panel!

    I'm a HUGE Prince fan. His death has left a gaping hole in my heart. I remember seeing Prince for the FIRST time in 1980. I was a 17 years old and I watched both American Bandstand and Soul Train almost religiously. There are times in your life when you don't know WHY you remember that few minutes of a single day. I didn't understand fully what I was seeing or hearing but it was something that struck a chord within me. He was so incredibly new and different. When I went off to college in the fall of 1980 in California, college parties were rife with Dirty Mind and it was a time before the age of Herpes and HIV/AIDS- in other words, sex was something we were all doing and Dirty MInd was our soundtrack at every house party. Up all night, dancing to Prince, Rick James, MJ and soooooo many others.

      Well da lily WOman, thinkz Prince wuz just a student. She probably couldn't elevate him 2 sucha lofty position, such azz master, or da teacher.
      I prefer da misogony, n comparison 2 anutha WOman, minimizing Princez mportance & true stature.

    • @MezzoFashionisto
      @MezzoFashionisto 8 років тому +9

      Ron Beck She wasn't saying that he was less than a master, she was saying that by remaining open to learning and observing the other artistry around him, he became even more of a master of his art. Even when you are an absolute master at something, cutting yourself off from attaining more knowledge will only hinder your art, Prince never did that because he was a true musical genius. And "misogynistic wall of noise" is actually a Prince and 3rd Eye Girl lyric, so there's that.

    The "Fans" are requesting that you might let us know what WE can do to support this most painful loss of Prince. We want to take part too. I wish to express my gratitude to all of you taking place in the Prince Reflection (Remembering Prince) in this group bereavement setting!! We are all still in disbelief and deep grief. While most of us never personally met Prince... we are in great despair since his passing. "His passing" ...those words do still stick in my throat and believe they always will. Yes, it kills me too Prince died alone and although had many loved ones... no real family system. So, if it is such sorrow for us...I cannot imagine how it is for all of you who all had the once in a lifetime, wonderful experience of having Prince in your lives.....having known him...loved him...had his love. Know we are thinking of you too in your helplessness and sadness. Know that those of us who loved Prince from "afar" are suffering too. Let's face it... We are all taking this HARD!! We miss our visionary, our genius, perfect musician and performer, our prophet. our miracle, OUR FRIEND!! These groups you are doing are helping us too. Please keep them up!! TYSM!! XO

    I find the ending interesting. At 1:24:20 Spike starts talking about how "if you go back over the music now so much of the lyrics are prophetic"...then mentions Let's Go Crazy and how "when he says you're on your own, if the elevator tries to being you down and he dies alone in the elevator?!?!". Then the other guys add in how Prince said the elevator was the symbol for the devil and how there's so much death in those lyrics, then Spike starts talking about Sometimes It Snows In April and how that song really hit him...then the guy in the middle interrupts to say "actually we gotta wrap, I'm being told it's time to leave the room" (as one of the ladies is attempting to make a comment). Interesting how just when the topic of Prince's mysterious death comes up, it's suddenly time to wrap up the show.

    whats great about Prince was that he inspired me to be a Band leaser although I wasn't qualified, but I was a Band Director..with the littleknowledge I know,it was draped with my Love for music..so when I conjured up the confidence to form my own Band for commercial reasons, was to emulate that ambition and Love for great music..we covered alot of Prince Music and Michael's..only for inspiration to come up with my own sound! So I was a student of his indirectly..and I wanted to even know what inspired him and Michael..because people try to compare them, but there not comparable. Its intrisic for young people who want to do that trade Pop music if you will is to study people who were great. He is one to study, because he also was student of grat music..him and Michael! Rest Well Prince..I will continue to study to get better to honor your name, which is definately a life lived not in vain.

    Prince would not approve everyone on this panel. IJS. LOL Some people have been hailed definitive on artist and not really. Many cliche'd moments nothing in depth here. Spike Lee was the most genuine. True close ones, True family, True fans will continue to mourn beyond the weeks and months of his transformation. Family isn't always the bloodlines but to say he wasn't close to his sister of all the siblings is such a vague statement. One must understand a Gemini, a Genius, a Visionary. To truly exact their purpose they will be alone, they must be alone more than not. What we all should be thankful for as fans and admirers of his work is that at the later part of his life he engaged more which included social media and of all the music, the artistry was NOT for his close ones but for his fans... through his transformation Prince Rogers Nelson remained an enigma, befittingly so. Prince never gave access to his personal life the way many are trying to indulge/reveal. If a friend very sure you KNOW you should not reveal too much. Panel suspect, so however he died, it doesn't matter to fans and while we all tune in to hear some reveals you can tell what feels full of hot air and what is not. Prince would want less reveals many of us
    feel... for it was the music... his Purpose was fulfilled. I loved how Dez interviewed but he would not speak on the last conversation taken place months before Prince transition. Vann Jones said it best if you talk on how you know this and that if Prince was alive you would not be all in that inner circle. Definitely if a fan, fan here since 78 check out PRINCE.ORG one of the best online sources where you can see more in depth and feel more in depth vibes.

    Great panel discussion.... The end though when Toure talk down about how he lived his life... Prince knew exactly what he was doing. Based on the discussion to me but didn't cared about this present world because it's the afterlife that interest Prince more... He said that he does what he do so the faster he can get to his destination... Which is the afterlife... According to his Mel B interview.. He just lived out the end of his days to transition to where he was going.. So therefore he doesn't attached himself to worldly system because at the end of the day he knew that money cannot solve humanity biggest problem... Which he came to realize in his later life. So who ever gets his music 🎶 he will be heard and whoever gets his money he doesn't really care. That is what I understand from Prince through this discussion.

      No. His obvious preference, based on who he married and most of the women he was romantically associated with, was dark-haired, light-skinned women of questionable racial provenance. In watching this forum, it would be astounding for Prince's genius approach to the artistry of making music, musically, and conceptually be studied and taught in a course form in universities....True Musicology! The greatest tribute to the man. I think if it could truly be captured for what it really was, as he did it, THAT is what he would want to share with up and coming musicians and youth who aspired to be musicians. He did that in life, mentoring and collaborating with artists. The fans have the music...but as he studied, he is now among the artists who should be studied....not just adored.

    Wow, I am sitting here thinking about when I first heard" When Doves Cry" and how I would turn the radio from station to station and see how many times a day it was played!!! And listen to the album everyday all day so I could pretend I was singing with him like a video or concert!!! Anytime he dropped an album/cassette when I was a girl, I made it my business to get it!!! The purple album for Purple Rain, the 12 inches of the "B-sides", and anything following that, I have! Magazines with his face on the covers or not, I bought! I just hate that most of all my original stuff got lost thru the years! I replaced most of his music with Cds years later, but I always like to have the originals. I cherish him now by listening to his music daily ,which I have done anyways since I can remember. His influence in my life is vast and great! Listening to his songs has gotten me thru so many sad, depressing and hard times and I'll forever keep his memory alive in my life. I went out and got my first tattoo the day he passed of his symbol so that I can feel him in me always. Thank u Prince Rogers Nelson for your gift and love. God created something very special when He gave u to the World and we all will miss your presence in the flesh, but keep your spirit and dreams alive and well with your music.
