I don't understand how a straight talker can be deemed unusual. The man said what he said. He was just hypnotic and intelligent... he was an original and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that!
Unusual doesn't have to mean bad. Larry was just using that as a way to see how Prince viewed himself and see if there was anything more to discuss about that
He was the most beautiful man in the world!! Played 27 instruments. Played ALL the instruments and all vocals on his first 3 albums. He could do it all. GOAT
I don’t doubt it but truly that sounds impossible. You mean literally EVERY instrument? I mean records and record labels lie, but it does seem feasible
A brilliant, groundbreaking, free thinking, spiritually searching, individual artist, one of a kind. Humble, witty, genuinely down to earth and naturally charming. For the record...he also had a beautiful speaking voice. Goodnight sweet prince.
+Anthony Monaghan also a VERY BEAUTIFUL face. Look at him. Just stunning and yes, he had a beautiful speaking as well as singing voice. He was one of a kind of a higher degree.
@Darrin Robinson I found it very hard to keep a straight face and not laugh at the audacity you seem to have.🤦🏻♀️ You claim most people ignorant and uneducated all while YOU spew a huge load of undeserved, self-righteous, misspelled, incoherent, and incomplete ideas hid in a mess ignorant word vomit.🤔 I believe you are attempting to say that most people are ignorant and unthinking sheep, and instead you prove yourself to be exact those things. Your thoughts are unfinished and prove that you have not come to these conclusions or had ideas on your own. I don't believe you to have the education, reasoning, deductive skills, nor the common sense to come up with most of what you said by your own volition. You give out the impression of a person that has heard these ideas from someone much more educated than yourself. Now you are attempting (quite poorly if I may add) to recite dated and uninteresting rhetoric that I'm sure you have heard or had taught to you your whole life.😒 The "Love Symbol o(-+>" is not a symbol of any "deity"!😄 It is an image that was invisioned by, designed by, and created by none other than Prince Rogers Nelson himself . The symbol is meant to be a physical representation of his marriage to Mayte, their life together, the growth of their love, and him choosing to leave his past behind a become a new (and perhaps better) man. It is based in the combination of the symbols for male and female to show he and Mayte are now joined together, as one, in marriage. The cross line is used to represent how their love grew from something small and that it will continue to grow. Because Prince created the symbol, he is the only person that has the right to give it a name, pronunciation, meaning, or (thanks to it being copyrighted) a purpose and use. Please, in the future you should take the time to educate yourself, or know what you're talking about, before you make a public comment that does nothing but put your ignorance on display. Unless you enjoy being laughed at and embarrassed, I suggest you take time to proof read what you write before you post. Be sure to check for incomplete sentences, unfinished ideas, improper grammar, spelling errors, and ESPECIALLY unprovoked hate speech.
@Darrin Robinson you have talked in many circles, contradicted yourself multiple times, rambled on without making a coherent statement, presumed to know things that you are obviously clueless about, lashed out at me with ignorance and hate because I apparently offended you, and somehow managed confused me so much that I feel dizzy! I cant even piece together enough to deem a comprehensive reply. I value my time, effort, and sanity more than it will take for me re-read your comments, try to decipher whatever point you are really trying to make, or attempt to put them into cohesive thoughts. I mean, you have shockingly stated twice that you dont believe in ANYTHING. That is such an abstract thought that I cant even grasp the concept of it. I've never met a person who doesn't believe that anything. That must mean nothing has ever existed in time or space except you. Like, do you live so far out in deep space that there is nothing except you, alone and floating around as the only thing that exists or has ever existed? If that's the case, then perhaps you can take some solace in the knowledge that I'm nothing more than your imagination. By using your "no belief" logic, none of these comments are even real and are nothing more than a delusion you are experiencing. All of this, everything ever created or imagined, including the delusion of a planet, and the concept of life, humans, emotions, language, and every thought, sound, or image you have ever experienced are not real. They cant possibly exist because YOU dont believe in "anything". I however believe that I exist and I know that im am not floating in a void of nothingness. I wish you clarity of mind, that you discover something to "believe in", and that another being comes into your existence by somehow finding it way to you. What a lonely life you must have to live. 🙁🤷🏻♀️
He had one quality so unpopular today - humility. It seems to me he doesn't see a point in talking much about himself, he is interested in art, he liked his work, quality.
I get what you mean. I don't think it's about humility as much as it's about being private. Today celebrities - for a plethora of reasons but mainly, I guess, because they lack real talent or creativity to talk about something else - overshare their personal life and people or fans are way more obsessed about it (g.e: social media hysteria)
@Kiersten J He was confident in his art, and proud of it, yes. But he was not into ego tripping, posting his face everywhere etc. He wanted people to talk about his music, not about him personally. That's what I consider humble. Plus, he worked hard, very hard on his music.
Agreed. Beautiful voice. Beautiful soul. Clearly was murdered killed, not a doubt in my mind. ( and he knew it was coming .... ) Damned music industry. If you're talented and they get you to sign a contract you are shaking hands with the devil. Prince Roger Nelson, I really underestimated you in life. I higher you were corny in the 80's ... But I was very wrong to judge you based upon my own failings.
@Frost your comments are repetitive, no need to restate "your opinion" to everyone. He was a sexy , handsome man. Men have even stated "even if you're a guy, don't look into his eyes, he could make the most manly man want him." 💜
@Frost No nerve hit, just trying to help. Every comment I've read, you've inserted the same reply. It has to be embarrassing your vocabulary is limited to those 2 words, and you're clearly desperate for attention. I'll leave you to being a LOSER rather than wasting anymore time on you. ;oD
@@joyceboyd1838 Come on, now. A Man would do just about Anything to “tag” a woman.🤦🏾♀️ If it wasn’t Fame, it would have been Something Else. You know I’m right. I think it’s in their DNA.😂
I grew up listening to Metal and Grunge but Prince was a Guitar God in any genre of music. I like that he's soft spoken, articulate, funny and considerate in his interviews. R.I.P to Prince and Larry.
What strikes me in this interview is how smart Prince was. He's in no hurry, you see him actually stop and think about what he's going to say. He knew how to avoid putting his foot in his mouth so to speak. I wish more artist had this quality. That they still had class.
My mother met him in 79 when she was pregnant with me thru my uncle who was his road manager from 79- 87. She said he was very sweet and somewhat shy and smelled beautiful and his hair smelled of roses and was very soft and bouncy.
It’s crazy this only has 5.7 million views. One of the most hidden gems of our lifetime. It should be a prerequisite for everyone to watch this inspirational video
@@christianrose5116 EXACTLY. He's the most critically acclaimed, yet underrated artist I've ever seen so far in my life. The man could sing his ass off, play many instruments, write his own lyrics, AND his music was incredibly DIVERSE. Yet, alot of ppl only know him from Purple Rain. criminally underrated
@@anti4330 the guy has so much underrated music especially in the 90s and 2000s. Prince wrote everything and helped people become stars. He's still not recognized for it.
@Annette - Was thinking the same thing. Never watched any of his interviews but this was very enlightening. Sorta regret not having liked him a lil more when he was still here. Wasn’t expecting him to have such humility, introspection and hold such deep moral and religious principles based off his Concert performances and risky metro Sex dress attire. But he is a Gemini ♊️ So I’m guessing there’s another suppressed personality in there somewhere The Prince in this interview, would NEVER defile his TEMPLE by using or needing Drugs. He’s lucid.... centered... zero signs of being nervous or shy. Excellent communicator, good listener, caring and I also heard he was Vegan. He held a high regard for himself, his Temple and should have lived until a minimum of 150 yrs. Otherwise, I just can’t by into the overdose at his own 🤚🏼HANDS🤚🏼
He's definitely not only an incredible artist, but extremely intelligent and people underestimated him just because he wasn't in need of a lot of attention and recognition. RIP to them both. Great interview
@@girl123boy456 you should watch some other interviews, too. All show somewhat different parts of his character. Also, I'm sure you probably know by now since your post was months ago, but most of us are fairly certain he only died bc he took what we now call counterfeit drugs. Pain medication that has been created to look identical to the drug you intend to take, but one that has been made by murderers mixing fentanyl with the wanted drug and "pressing" it into a mold that looks like the real pills. If you aren't used to high levels of opioids, taking fentanyl can kill you. No proof of that, of course, but in my opinion, his death was some degree of homicide.
I've watched this interview several times and never get tired of listening to Prince's sweet voice!! I love when he smiles and says "Is that a word, Larry?" LOL.....God, I miss him So much!! He seemed so "together" and "focused"; then something went terribly, terribly wrong in the last years of his life. He left us too soon; such a great loss. I will always cherish not only his music, but all that he did for people and the world. He was a kind man & had a beautiful heart. Rest in peace in God's eternal love for evermore. xoxo

I'm in my early 40's and I'm from the Midwest. I know several people who have met him. Not a bad word about him. I have yet to hear a negative story about him. I constantly hear of his humility and generosity. The love poured out to him is from a life well lived. Love, intelligence, hard work, spirituality, creative, talented, integrity, humble. When you have a beautiful spirit it shows on the outside. He was truly one of God's chosen few. Thank you for the lifetime of music and lyrics with content and meaning. May you fly with the angels.
Caramel Diva he was sweet kid, fame made him a bit of an jerk at first, yet it was hard to handle, he had to focus, then as he got older he came back into his humble, kind self, I find this to be more honest, in real life with Prince..... love him, a musical genius and an Artist that cant be denied
Basically he was fighting against the powers that control the music industry. Entertainment is much dirtier than people understand.. actually if someone explained it to you, you probably wouldn’t believe it lol
This was one of the best interviews. Showing Prince as a well read intelligent person. A calm deep thinker, its a shame how people allowed the negative press on him
I'd be honored if some Prince fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal UA-cam performances of PURPLE RAIN and DIAMONDS & PEARLS in tribute to the greatest songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist of all time. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Peace and RESPECT to the genius of Prince.
Prince è andato contro il sistema , per questo lo hanno denigrato … in realtà era una persona davvero intelligente , aveva capito un sacco di cose molto prima di tanti altri , Prince era davvero un grande ❤🌹
+Justin Mccluskey I haven't stopped feeling the gut punch of all of this yet. It's like surreal. I know I didn't 'know' him, but his music weaved a fabric into my life that intersected in everything that I loved about him and his music. That music got to the soul of me. I love this interview because it truly personifies everything I thought of, felt, and believed him to be. :'(
Such a soft spoken gentleman. Down to earth, sincere. I will never forget his incredible riff during George Harrison’s Rock n Roll Hall of Fame ceremony. Pure talent. Such a loss.
The ultimate master Of his own craft. I love Prince when he first came out with his music. I love him after he passed away. His music will endure many, many, many, many generations. His talent was a gift to us to be able to see someone as brightest as a star could be. Rest in peace prince
It was the style at the time. Rick James used a lot of glitter too. Style wise that time period had a lot of bold trends like huge shoulder pads. Huge hair lots of make up. It was pure fun.
Only Prince. He was a sexual being as we all are, and his music and spirituality always touch on the male and female sexuality that God gifted all of us. I love and miss him so much.
Alma Montoya ...you’re being a little hard, aren’t you. Even his girlfriends, wife and close friends would say that he was beautiful and handsome to him when he was alive. It was part of who Prince was. No harm.
The most complete artist that music has ever seen so far and a truly excellent guitar player. His solo on Purple Rain is truly memorable. Thanks Prince.
Kurt Cobain, john lennon, Jeff, Brandon lee, River Phoenix, Michael Jackson, Chester Bennington, Jonathan brandis, and prince all had the best voice in my opinion 😊
Yeah huh?! I have Always Said..... Prince Rogers Nelson and Jim Parsons should do Children's Books on Tape.... For kids aged 1 to 5 years old..... This Interview and the Cartoon Movie, "Home"........ Just the Best and the Cutest Ever..... EVER, In The History of Ever.
Jackson was a fantastic singer and dancer. Prince was a musical genius. Writer/composer/producer/arranger, singer, drummer, bassist, keyboardist, and an incredible guitarist.
@@NoLefTurnUnStoned. Don’t forget writer (for MJ) too. His solo compositions are some of his most celebrated songs: Billie Jean, Beat It, Don’t Stop ‘til You Get Enough, Bad, Smooth Criminal, The Way You Make Me Feel, Wanna Be Startin’ Something. The list of the classic songs written without Co-writers is endless. Completely agree with you about Princes’s exceptional multi instrumentalism though. He was incredible in that respect. I think Prince’s quality control could be a bit questionable though. He released A LOT of stuff, much of it not that great (especially after Diamonds & Pearls) whereas Mike’s quality control was far tighter. Just my opinion of course ☺️
Prince's off-stage persona here is soft- spoken, humble, & quietly confident. I admired his ability on so many musical instruments. It's unfortunate that he chose to market his music via going the route of hyper-sexual stage antics as his image, & in his music videos. (Maybe advised by the record label, or his management, although he did say he does what HE wants to do, so...). He said his spiritual well-being was important to him, that he wanted to be dependant on God, & that his work was inspired by God. It's sad that he didn't succeed in finding peace, & was a drug addict. He died in an elevator in his home in MN, in April 2016, 2 months before his 58th birthday, of an overdose of Vicodin (oxycontin) mixed w/black market Fentanyl, an opioid 30 times stronger than heroin. In his last public photo, he looked tiny, gaunt, balding, nearly unrecognizable. A couple of days before he died, an assistant picked up 2 separate prescriptions of Vicodin for him at a pharmacy, twice on the same day. The day he died, police found bottles of narcotics scattered all over his house, including in a huge makeup drawer, with black hair dye, wads of vash, & a ziplock bag labeled "opium". He had lived in the home all his adult life, which was decorated w/his musical achievements, yet lacking personal touches, such as photos of family & friends. Prince was married to dancer Mayte Garcia, 1996--1999. She said they met when she was 16, he adopted her when she was 17, & he 32, almost twice her age; then he put her on birth control a week before they had sex. They married 5 yrs later. She became pregnant the same year w/ their son, Amiir ('Prince', in Arabic), who was diagnosed w/ Pfeiffer's Syndrome type 2, at birth, & died a few days later. The genetic mutation causes deformities of the skull, face, hands, & feet. She became pregnant again, but miscarried another son, 'Boy Gregory'. In her memoir, she said Prince then "humiliated her, banished her, & expected her to disappear." She now lives in Las Vegas, & was diagnosed w/M.S., but manages it w/ medication. She has an adopted daughter. Prince met Manuela Testolini when she was 24, & he 43. They married in 2001, but she filed for divorce 5 yrs later. Prince was Raised 7th Day Adventist. His bass player, Larry Graham, of Sly & The Family Stone, moved next door to him in Minneapolis, & for 2 yrs, persuaded Prince to convert to Jehovah's Witness (2001). Graham is also the uncle of rapper, Drake.
@@suraya1224 yeah i don't believe hype or gossip, big pharma killed a lot of fine people artists, musicians and others, on one hand they try and gaslight and subdue those they hurt...then they call them addicts, its frustrating when at everypoint a human tries to strive for something noble and creative they get put down as being different and gaslit into big pharmas arms. The truth about those practices the suffering it causes, all legal , the way doctors iin US acts does not help the people, it causes more suffering, suppresses, flattens, destroys the body...so many fine black artists killed by doctors
He wasn't a drug addict and he was vegan. Drugs were never his thing. He despised drugs and there were no drugs on his tours or rehearsals. Unfortunately and ironically drugs took him out, led by his hip pain. So sad.
He said “well mannered and sober” about Marilyn Manson, you clearly haven’t seen his interviews and are one of those soccer moms who thinks he worships Satan. Grow up lady.
Ronnie Mead Only this interview is a treat for the ears and brain when MJ interviews are creepy, embarrassing and not sincere (I still love him though).
I like the way Prince gives Larry respect as an elder. He says, "yes sir". He's polite. That's a big deal with stars... so many of them act like spoiled little brats, and they treat everybody like crap.
Love this interview. The opinion of others of me IS NOT my issue. Love Prince's comments regarding his privacy and his craft. Love to hear about his journey with stepping inwardly to be his highest essence of spirit! Thank you!
I hate when people would call him "not normal". He was so normal it was ridiculous. He was a damn boss as an artist. We all know why he changed his name, to divorce his record company and put out his music without being tied to them. He found a loophole, that was brilliant, abnormal people don't think of that. RIP Prince Rogers Nelson
Compared to other guests, Larry is being incredibly thoughtful and respectful here. It's adorable. He seems a bit star struck, and that's impressive from a guy who interrupts the President.
Prince for president lol.... I have never seen any interview where someone was trying to ramp him up. I am sure Larry already knew if you go down that road it will create a bad environment and worse a bad interview....
It's hard to believe but Larry actually was a tad shy at times. He was a dear friend of mine for may years and I've seen him a bit tongue-tied, shy and even at a loss for words a few times and found that to be rather endearing. One of his super powers was how he read his guests very well and it's evident that he knew Prince was not a fan of interviews, yet did a great job to make him feel comfortable and at ease.
Such a shame it took the death of Prince for me to finally watch this great interview - what a delightful gentleman he was, wise and enchanting, reflective and dignified. I enjoyed very much hearing his voice and saddened it will no long be heard. A man very aware of his Creator - inspiring stuff
He was so beautiful & a gentle soul who died too young, amazing lyricist & musician too. Like Freddie Mercury, he was one of the beautiful people who you couldn’t imagine living to be old & they were both taken way too soon. I hope they rest in peace, both of them.
How could anyone NOT like this interview?! Humility, sincerety grace and refinement mixed with spunk, sass, humor and honesty. He's truly possesses the balance between Yin and Yang.
Ugh, still hard to believe he’s gone! Seems like he was a really sweet guy and his music and dancing are beyond magical! We will never forget him, no matter what he chose to be known as.
It’s Dec 31, 2022 and I am still learning new things about this amazing artist. Loved him back in the 80’s when my mom took me and my sis to the Purple Rain concert on DEC 3, 1984 at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto. Still listen to him everyday and love It. A LOT LESS cool, for sure.
@Darrin Robinson why do you believe it would be pronounced that way?
Now you are attempting (quite poorly if I may add) to recite dated and uninteresting rhetoric that I'm sure you have heard or had taught to you your whole life.😒
The "Love Symbol o(-+>" is not a symbol of any "deity"!😄 It is an image that was invisioned by, designed by, and created by none other than Prince Rogers Nelson himself .
That’s the first time I see someone say that Prince is humble lmao. He was a lot of things but certainly not humble!
@Kiersten J He was confident in his art, and proud of it, yes. But he was not into ego tripping, posting his face everywhere etc. He wanted people to talk about his music, not about him personally. That's what I consider humble.

This is such a great interview. He was very soft spoken, but razor sharp. A smart and talented man that made many great songs.
She became pregnant the same year w/ their son, Amiir
('Prince', in Arabic), who was diagnosed w/ Pfeiffer's Syndrome type 2, at birth, & died a few days later.

Prince is an enigma that we can never replace or fully understand...EVER.
Jla
How could anyone NOT like this interview?! Humility, sincerety grace and refinement mixed with spunk, sass, humor and honesty. He's truly possesses the balance between Yin and Yang.
The name (Prince) didn't "get" him famous; his talent did.
Yes, I agree.
But his talent Came From Below
I was surprised to find out that PRINCE is his real name...
Let’s also acknowledge Larry King did a great job handling Prince in a dignified way.
Let's Not 🎨
I don't like the word handling mixed with artist... kinda could trigger things.

It seems impossible that this was 20 yrs ago. He was such a beautiful soul, happy to have shared the same space in time with him.
He has a sparkle in his eyes, it's true of good souls and several creative geniuses. Prince seems to be in a good zone here.
That's what women said about Ted Bundy too
Ugh, still hard to believe he’s gone! Seems like he was a really sweet guy and his music and dancing are beyond magical! We will never forget him, no matter what he chose to be known as.
He changed his name due a legal thing with WB label
He's with us in his music and his music will never die! God bless 🙏
Sad he is no longer with us .
Greatest pure musician of all time. 💜 🎸
It must be a beautiful memory to share with your parent.
@@AamuAuroramy mom loves prince and i swear I slept on him and now he's just something i look at not like a myth but a literal musical legend creator of magic crazy shit but prince just feels like it
He chose spiritual well being over fame: what a loss for us ALL. Not many utter the word God but he did and with gusto too. RIP brother.
He was so famous, everybody was informed of His change of name, so he chose nothing away, really?
It wasn't a loss but a GAIN! - He was then free from Warner Bros. to release as much music as he could pump out - and he did. If you missed out on buying it all, then THAT was your loss...
@@jondunmore4268 happy new year nay sayer
Are you fucking kidding?? He literally died of a drug overdose!! You People crack me up worshiping someone you literally don’t know.
@@markmiller489 so quick to judge. Thinking about what he did during is time here is worthy of admiration, period. The fact that he died of an overdose is irrelevant.
omg he kept calling Larry 'Sir"...i mean can u get any more adorable then that!! I ASK YOU!
Prince is truly missed. Seemed like such a kind, generous, down to earth person. ❤
❤
Larry King was star struck. Prince had a easy open air about himself. He pulled you in with eyes voice gesture. Made you want to remain in his sphere. He was truly special.
I regret never seeing him live
Me too.
I was lucky in that a friend had an extra ticket for his final tour, the Piano & Microphone shows. I wasn't really wanting my first time seeing him to be without a band but my friend convinced me to go. It was incredible, of course. Just a short time later, he was gone. Thankful to have witnessed him.
I saw him live twice
I saw him live and he was absolutely amazing!!! Greatest birthday present ever!!! Miss this guy...
Was thinking this Friday
I never listened to an interview with Prince up until now. I'll call him *Prince calmness* . R.I.P.
What a presence! Exudes kindness and modesty. One of a kind and there will never be one like him. RIP Prince❤❤❤
One of the greatest electric guitarists of all time. God he could shred. I remember the day he passed and everyone I knew was mourning him. I love when the whole town of Minneapolis was colored purple during the Super Bowl halftime tribute to Prince. Awesome. Game. Blouses.
😢❤
You rite Matthew, I always knew Prince could shred, understand, I hold a shredder to a higher caliber, SRV, dimebag.
He doesn't shred, Gary Moore shreds, Prince just has perfect technique and melodic genius
Also a Phenomenal bass player. A true virtuoso and multi instrumentalist. Probably the greatest Pop musician of all time along with Paul Mccartney.
Prince had more talent in his little finger, than most musicians have in their entire body.
RIP To two legends. Hopefully Larry will be conducting an interview with Prince somewhere in the afterlife.
My thoughts EXACTLY
What afterlife???
Is everyone a legend I hate that word
I hate all celebrities except for prince and Michael Jackson
But stop saying legends
They are not some type of gods
Can you please ask him to turn up prince mic. next time 👨💻

Heaven or hell, read the scriptures before you are caught off guard in your sins. Christ for gives only if you ask him to.
Soft spoken , gentleman of a guy. relaxed and focused.. im lost with words... just cant explane it... greatly admired and missed by so many
Great interview and Prince is so respectful. Missed.
His passing was a terrible tragic loss. He’s one of the most brilliant artists of our time. I love watching these videos and hearing him speak.
Prince was a good-looking dude. Very Angelic.
Gay
@@theoldmanriverwalk9472 How is it gay? Prince is beautiful like a woman.
I’m gay, and I’m attracted to men that look like men- huge 250lbs+ men. Straight dudes, if they are going to point out looks on a man, it’s probably more likely to be on a “beautiful” male for their feminine attributes.
So I’d say it’s probably just you and me here who are gay.
And he also handles that racist remarks coming from Larry King like a real businessman. I guess when you get use to public abuse & jealousy it just rolls down your sleeves.
@UC7G-232rsD_x48WWFbyIuWw u a pussy if u scared to call someone good looking
@@theoldmanriverwalk9472 you never complimented another dude before? Did you grow up sheltered from people or something?
His voice is so mesmerizing...soothing. Such an intelligent, mystical personna. So humble, yet honest. Beyond a class act. So ahead of our time. Listening to him feels not only like we are hearing the words of a musical genius, but also a beautiful guru with a pure heart and soul.
I just discovered this interview and I am blown away
