So throwing vertical works better with a 2 hander because you throw straight because your arms are not pulling to the left or right. one handed should start from a horizontal position and throw over the shoulder so hand, elbow then shoulder.
Someone else commented that the vertical throw worked better because the axe wedges itself between the fibers of wood. That might be true, but I believe a far bigger effect is that of gravity. With the vertical throw, the spinning of the axe is in direct alignment with gravitational force, as opposed to that of the 45-degree throw, where it only gets about half the effect. It also may have something to do with it being easier to put power into an overhead throw than the sort of sidearm toss.
From my experience with axe throwing I think they got it right on the money with the direction of the fibers. When I use a thinner axe it doesn’t like to go into the wood unless it’s up and down. If you use a round of wood though like at a lot of axe throwing places you can stick it at any angle because you’re going top down.
I nearly lost it when he did the game loading screen for the scene change between talking about the long throw distance and the field for the test itself. Brilliant. As for not making the long throw further in the game, it's possible they thought it was already at superhuman distance. Hopefully the broken to doesn't cost too much lol.
YOU BEAT UP THAT butternut SQUASH.... Which is still 100% a FALL/AUTUMN ICON. Comin' in here with your pumpkin nonsense. They all GOURDS, they all fruit.
Would love to hear you and Shad discuss the value of different axe shapes and stuff. You do so much with swords and others, but I feel axes get shafted. Like, is the bearded axe best? Why or why not? That handle looked boss because of the curve in it. How does that affect handling or shock absorption? So much I want to know.
I loved seeing you having so much with this one! I've curious with how much your proficiency with other weapons helped you with the handling of a brand new one to you.
The way you're going with these weapons youre gonna end up in the next soul calibur. You're just straight up good at this Ty, you can make 'em and wield 'em.
Thank you tyranth, for giving the Kratos axe manipulations a fair chance, if I may add I have created a small scale replica of Kratos's leviathan axe from God of war, and from that scale replica throwing I have done, the curves of the handle seem to aid with the throwing, so I think that if you were make a prop with an exact replica handle, you might be surprised by it's performance, seriously if possible do consider it
Nailed the distance! 85%of Ax throwing is being at the correct distance vs the rotation of the Ax. Usually at 3meters it should do 1 full rotation. Also the type of Ax head it was, "bites" into the target better when the top quater hits first. Looks like why a few of your throws ricochet. The blade landed flat so couldnt bite. Great video! And for second time throwing you did an amazing job. Oh pro tip for double hand throws should cup hands together instead of separate. Less chance of a finger lingering or one hand opening sooner.
When you threw in the Kratos 2-handed style the axe rotated in 2 axes. That usually prevented the axe from sticking in the tree because the sideways torque twisted the blade out from the impact. For your other throws the axe almost always only rotated in 1 axis.
Axe throwing is actually really easy and doesn't really require training. I don't know about Australia but in the US there are places you can go to throw axes just for fun and for the most part it only takes 1 or 2 throws to get the hang of it and not even that a lot of the time. First time I went axe throwing I hit the target every time. It's really not hard
The problem is it needs to be heavier to sink into the wood when you throw it, but the weight will make it harder to get distance. If you hit the tree with the axe more standing up the rotation will also cause it to drop out, it needs to hit with the handle providing push not at a straight up and down position. Nice looking axe btw.
Wild guess here, but possibly the game devs based his throw distance on some real-world observations or even testing. He is considerably taller than you are, but your axe is pretty much in scale to you compared to his axe to him. Hence your throw distance, ignoring him being a deity and all, should be roughly proportional, and it is. Breaking the blade tip is not surprising at all. It looks like a relatively thin-bladed fighting axe, and axe-throwing competitors use typical thicker-bladed chopping axes that are a lot harder to break. I’ll bet a cookie that the blade is through-hardened too, making it brittle. I’m glad that the video was fun to make because it sure was fun to watch!
It is very instinctual as long as the axe is balanced like an axe should be, unlike knife throwing where they are "balanced" as opposed to being asymmetrically weighted. With an axe you can let the axe do most of the work, just kinda toss it with what you think is enough power and it will stick 9/10 times even if you have never thrown one before. Throwing knives? Yeah, no as has been demonstrated on this and Shad's channel they take far more skill/finesse, there are techniques you need to use to get them to stick. TL;DR: There is a reason axes are strength weapons in many RPG systems, you really can just use strength to make them work for you. Technique helps but is not required.
@@ShiningDarknes Ehh.. if you want good accuracy with them like you are doing darts, their is a techinque you should practice and if you want to stick with a semi dull axe. The sharper the axe the easier to stick but you rely your axe being super sharp all the time.
Most are targets are from end of a log. Easier to stick in. (Grew up in the woods many years ago and competed in logging festivals in the seventies) have a great day
loved the kanabo! hope you do a 2.0. drill holes, use bolts and nuts to mount them, and grind the ends to points or blades. you know you want to have a proper indestructible one!
Axe throwing is a blast. A friend and I and our spouses went to an axe-throwing....studio? You walk in, rent a lane and an axe, they'll show you some techniques (yep, there is a technique for throwing), and then you drink and throw axes. Good times. Tyranth makes it look easy...perhaps from years of handling weapons and throwing them. I think that axe's shape may help, too...?
I love that I saw Shad in my feed with the spike-bat I knew was going to be on his channel shortly.... and a video of Tyranth right below it... using Shads axe. I watched this one first just to confirm it was Shads. Amusing coincidence for youtube putting both videos next to each other. =P
It’s grain of the wood problem with the two handed throws. That hardwood would make it really tough to stick one sideways. If you had cork or bails of hay you’d stick with those throws. Your rotations at different ranges were smack on! 👏😲
Hey tyranth, been watching every video u have put out and am loving the content (especially the scoring system idea). Thanks for the amazing content, this channel and shadiversity both brighten my day every time I see a new video come out 😀
Just found this channel and I must say I'm impressed. Ngl I'd love to see how you would manage some weapons from Demon Slayer if you haven't already. Gyomei Himejima's weapon, Obanai Iguro's weapon, Mitsuri Kanroji's weapon, Tengen Uzui's cleavers, Gyutaro's weapons, Shinobu's weapon, etc.
Hey totally enjoyed your video wanted to let you know I used work at Epicenter (family fun place in Cali) where you can throw axes & knifes indoors and what I've noticed is when you keep hitting the same spot the wood gets chipped up it's actually harder for the ax to land in that spot so chances are if you keep hitting the same spot repeatedly it doesn't matter how you throw the ax it simply won't stick when the wood gets incredibly chipped up perhaps the same thing happened to your tree I don't know but I did notice you started to throw further away it landed higher from The Sweet spot you were hitting. Yes the overhand throw is much better technique and how far you are definitely helped but what I was thrown with small hand axes would have loved to throw the kratos axe lol.
I have done axe throwing once before, and I am amazed that you can sink the blade of that thing so effectively. It took me a minute and I still haven’t got it

I think Kratos can throw the axe and embed it in someone's skull at 20 to 40 kf ( Kratos feet) and that is where is divine strength helps. Saying this it would be so fun to see you throw the axe at these distances into a target.

“This ax is sick”
Well, that ax WAS sick until it lost a chunk of its blade.
Will be interesting a comparision with other tomahawks in the net market...precission, penetration, longest distance throw, etc..
Any plans to make a patreon? I know UA-cam takes a bigger cut then patreon
"I like the axe."
"I too like the axe."
an axe a day keeps the invaders away
You read that in Kratos' voice. I'm sure.
Hide your water bottles and pool noodles, Tyranth dropped a new Screen Tested vid!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Do energy drinks count?
If you didn't have a 'hit the camera' shot, it wouldn't be Screen Tested! 🤣🤣
A time honored Tradition at this point... haha

Makes you wonder though against a human target if a horizonal through would be better to get through ribs.
Since you break the tip of your axe Tyranth, you now have to make an new and more accurate Leviathan axe, for your next video.
I really want to see Shad's reaction when you return the axe.

I think the best part is that Tyanth is just sending it, meanwhile Kratos is just lightly tossing it like a skipping a stone
Look at that, Tyranth can throw with the power of a greek god!
You just know shad is gonna have a field day with this
Ok, that was pretty cool man. :D Well done.
Notice that the axe rotates faster when you throw it sideways. It flies in a more satisfying, snappier way.
Honestly amazed how well that works.

Pine spruce or cedars are awesome target woods though cedars splits if not wrap with something

Awsome video. Can you put a link on where to get the axe you used?
Genuine question: why do you hold the axe closer to the head when you are cutting things?
It makes it more nimble/wieldable. Lower on the handle makes for more power, higher up gives you more control. Hope that helps!
@@danieledwards2149 thank you!
Will you be doing the spear from gow ragnarok?
I think the only reasonable conclusion is the Tyranth is basically Kratos.
After I do the spear I have to at least be a consideration right haha
He is nothing like Kratos, Tyranth has far better hair!
You must test out the Draupnir Spear next to complete the Norse GoW Saga of weaponry.
goota love the huge difference he talks about and review weapons compared to shad XD
Stick with a sharp end is good!

I hope one day the game God of War (2018) comes to the XBOX. Because it's not big of stretch since it's now on PC.
That one was on target but not enough power. All bark no bite.
You did the axe, you did the blades, now do the best weapon that is the spear
well when you think about it
throwing a object comes down to how much force you can apply to it
as an example to the strenght of kratos (or any fictional character)
first throw a wooden stick as refference
then a twig logically you'd imagin that you'd throw the twig further than the stick since it is lighter
however that isn't the case the twig will fly segnifficantly shorter
the weight of an object and densety play a huge roll in it
and also the zero to apex point of contact
now i just quickly come up with this comparing it with my life expiriences
i do believe there should be some nerd who actually made the correct calqulations and equasions
on why this phenomenon happens in physics
Hereeeee for the AXES
the top of the axe blade is the horn and the bottom is the beard

Since you've done god of war weapons and Zeus' lightning bolt, how about Poseidon's trident?
Wow, who would have thought a weapon designed for throwing would be effective at being thrown?
I’ve thrown over and underhanded. Never side arm though.
Love the shear excitement when it went in first time on the sidewards throw.
Man, this is a NICE AXE! 😎👍
I think you should have given it the T.I.T.S. It would be nice to have some real world weapons as comparison. And its not like they could have not messed the Kratos axe up by being extra fancy.
