[019] Creating An Airport - Painted Lines and Areas - Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 SDK Tutorials

  • This tutorial covering the basics of how to create a new airport in the game, specifically focusing on Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne Airport in France (ICAO:LFLC).
This airport does not appear in the game even though there is map data for it, probably due to a portion of the airport being pixelated out on Google Maps.
This fifth part of the tutorial covers how to improve the look of the airport using painted lines and painted areas to add additional apron and taxiway markings where required.

MFS2020 is unbelievably creator-friendly. I think we need some more stuff in the North West.

I'm learning a lot from your videos, pls continue with them. I hope one day you will finish teaching us how to create approach and departures procedures.

I see the latest patch that's been released today now has Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne Airport included

These videos are a Godsend! Thank you so much for the clear and concise tutorials. Would you mind making one on how to make custom ground textures via projected mesh? I can make them in Blender just dont know how to import into the sim. Thanks again!

Hi Flying Theston ! I know this airport (LFLC from Clermont-Fd / France). My birthplace. Actually, I m currently working on it, following your great tutorials (very well done for a newbie like me). Have you a completed scenery for the airport and/or the AIA part of the scenery. Thank you.

Nice tutorial. You should go with Projected Mesh. Interesting tool.

Another great tutorial! Thank you! About his tutorial 14, adding a custom aerial imagery, when I activated the simulator and went to PHNL, to my surprise, the runway is whole there, although the lack of texture remains. Who corrected this?

Any idea why the sdk remembers an old model/material. I made a mistake with a material and corrected it but if you save it with the same name it always reverts to the original material that you used.

Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly away
If you can use some exotic booze
There's a bar in far Bombay
Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly away
Come fly with me, let's float down to Peru
    In llama-land there's a one-man band
And he'll toot his flute for you
Come fly with me, let's take off in the blue
Once I get you up there
    Where the air is rarefied
    We'll just glide
    Starry-eyed
Once I get you up there
I'll be holding you so near
    You may hear
    Angels cheer, 'cause we're together
    Weather-wise, it's such a lovely day
Just say the words and we'll beat the birds
    Down to Acapulco Bay
It is perfect for a flying honeymoon, they say
Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly away
Once I get you up there
    Where the air is rarefied
    We'll just glide…

Your hold short for runway 26 is in the wrong place. The ortho clearly shows it much further back on the taxiway.

Any clues on changing painted line colours, ie yellow on white concrete isn't visible. Local airport has white apron with dark lines on it. Can't see any viable choices in available selections.

    • @FlyingTheston
      @FlyingTheston  3 роки тому

You could use an apron with a custom texture applied to it maybe?

@@FlyingTheston Thanks, just discovered the concept of models as 2d projections, old way of doing more complex textures. There's a sample under sdk as projected mesh, I am in the process of testing it out. I think it will do multi materials and complex shapes, as long as they are flat and mapped correctly. Could well be the way, and seems to match some of the fill textures in sdk fills where there are several versions of lines, letters etc on one texture, just cant work out how the current sdk uses them, i suspect it will be something like this mesh projecting method. The sdk documentation/help on this is very unhelpful.

@@FlyingTheston Just an added bit of info you may like to pursue, adding painted lines ''properties" window, has a small ''optional materials" check box. I f you make a new material and save it under 'myMaterials' system, which ever is selected from materials editor is then loaded when the properties checkbox is ticked.
Problem of colour is solved, but mapping is seriously demented.. seems only a few pixels are used, and testing sizes, placements, blend masks does little to rectify mapping. Even changing UV sizes and locations seems to not work as expected, to get i.e. yellow line in middle with black edges, I can only get a blurry sort of bit of one edge.
the painted lines seem to have curve to mesh function behind the scenes, I some got to see the mesh shape when messing with alpha masks, but still no understanding of how to get mapping controls and image size requirements..
