    Awesome, love these SDK help videos. Much appreciated.

    The difference between a PAPI2 and an APAPI is probably indiscernible in the sim. The "A" stands for Abbreviated. Both are PAPIs that use two physical light housings. From what I can tell, PAPI2 uses 200 watt lamps while the APAPI uses 100 watt lamps. I suspect that the APAPI would be used only at small fields. The TVASI is a three bar VASI. The reason it exists is most likely because of the high cockpit position of 747 and the Concorde. Most aircraft use the lower two bars but the upper two bars can be used by thee other aircraft due to there higher than normal cockpit position on approach and landing. In other words, the pilot is riding above the normal visual glidepath. If they followed the same visual path as the other aircraft their plane would be dangling dangerously low below them. I'm not sure of what airports actually have them though I'm guessing the old Concorde routes. Thanks for these videos! They are of great help. (EDIT: I'm realizing the "TVASI" you showed appears different than the one I was talking about.)

    Fantastic video tutorial(s), you present in a way that's easy to grasp and understand showing everything visually, thank you so much for creating them. :) I got so sick of waiting for OrbX and/or Asobo to create the proper 13 degree MALSF offset lighting path for PAJN (Juneau Airport, Alaska) that I've decided to try it myself, cheers!

      Hey, hoping you see this! I found this video while searching for a way to do the same thing... I'm interested not only in the correctly offset MALSF, but also the sets of 5 sequenced flashers on Battleship island, in the Cut, and in the flats between the Cut and the approach lights for 08. Have you made any progress on this / anything I can do to help? Would sure like to see this fixed!

      @@ajcrowley7170 Hey bud, yeah I really got into trying to do something in terms of the approach and what you're describing but it's way beyond my knowledge base and the time I have. Is there anyone you know in the community who could pull this off? At this point I'd be willing to pay to have a proper approach into Juneau...

      @@JockoFlocko yeah I'm going to dig into this when I have some time. It may be a month+ as I'm just starting a busy training cycle at work, but I'll give it a shot when I can. I have some experience with scenery design in MSFS but it's all bush scenery; I don't know what can and cannot be done with lights. If I make anything happen, it'll show up on the .to.

    thanks for this. About to modify a airport and make alot of people happy.. Why nobody has done it yet i have no idea. Got to be the quickest mod to do for a major used airport,

      You're welcome! That's pretty much why I started getting interested in the SDK, my local airport had the taxiway names all wrong so it meant ATC's instructions didn't match the real charts.

    one of the useful tutorials keep it up, I have a question about how to add ILS to the airport and runway

    • @Benney
      @Benney  3 роки тому

      Glad it helped! I've not tried ILS yet, but I think it's something to do with the radio configs file (for the ILS frequencies at least). There is information about it in the SDK Documentation.

    How do you manage to have your threshold lights outside the runway? When I activate edge lights it simply puts them right in the way.

    Great content! I’ve been editing tbpb for a week now while following your tutorial. Is there a way to change the taxiway edge lights from those massive blue lights?

    • @Benney
      @Benney  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks! Glad I could help.
      As far as I know they are the only lights we can add at the moment through the properties of the taxiway. You can also play around with LightRows to place down lights separate from the taxiways. I haven't had much luck with either of these, they always seem to bug out for me.

    Great tutorial. Is there any way to lower the approach lights. My lights at 0 degrees and are way too high on tall yellow poles.

    Why do the runway edge lights disappear when you are on downwind? They should be visable at all angles.

    • @thedrewh10
      @thedrewh10 2 роки тому

      Runway lights are directional so that they appear brighter when landing than from the side. In real life they are much dimmer from the side.

    When I apply for runway edge lights, there are some autogenerated in the middle of the rapid exit taxiways...
    Is there a way to modify this? I tried with exclusion rectangle but they are still there :(

    • @Benney
      @Benney  3 роки тому

      I've not had any issues with that before, are you sure there is a taxiway path there that is connected up to the runway's taxiway path, etc.?

      I have an opposite problem, some the runway edge lights, notably the red and green end ones tend to change to the flat, embedded version even though they are on grass. I looks very bad.

    I am still having a problem getting vasi to work right at an airport i am working on, it may be a elevation or slope issue, the light settings for the airport are 3.75 at one end and 4.0 at the other, not sure what the problem is, it may be a feet/metric issue, can you explain pattern altitude? is this the airfield elevation?

    • @Benney
      @Benney  3 роки тому

      Few things to check: did you move them from the middle of the runway, did you set the glide slope right, are they rotated the correct way, do you see the models?

    Hey great video! Do you know if its possible to edit faulty things on current microsoft flight simulator airports?
    For instance, LEPA has all taxiways lines and markings wrong. Could I just edit it and post it somewhere?

    • @Benney
      @Benney  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks! It should be, because most airports on the planet are part of MSFS already, most custom airports have to overwrite parts of the base airport.
      To overwrite things you just create a new airport and choose which bits to get rid of in the To Delete section. I show how to do this in episode 2: ua-cam.com/video/xWxJW6cHPpc/v-deo.html. You can then make your changes to just those parts of the airport object.

    How do you get your runway to have different textures on the displace threshold, when I try changing the material for it nothing happens.

    • @Benney
      @Benney  3 роки тому

      I'm using aprons with the 'draw above runways' checkbox ticked to apply patches of texture over the runway. The materials section in the runway properties is mostly used to change the tiled texture and tyre marks of the runway, I don't think it can do more specific things like I needed here.
