  • Here I drop the fuel tank on my #landrover Land Rover Discovery 3 (LR3) and extract the pump module so I can replace the low pressure fuel pump, this was done to mitigate a low power mode that was causing issues. I went to the forums to find info on diagnosing the fuel pump pressure issue.
This is a hard and messy job, in my weaker condition, due to being on dialysis, it was probably harder. However taking things slowly and carefully meant that in the end I got the job done.
Apologies, this one was filmed before I learned to use a tripod properly and check where my lens was pointing on some of the detail shots. Also to remember to actually film some of the process. Overall I think there's some useful info here, so I decided to edit and upload.

That was helpful, thanks... I'm facing the same job and not entirely looking forward to it! Do you have a part number for the fuel pump, or was it just a parts store item? Cheers, Steve

I got the pump on eBay and decided to go for a branded item. I ended up purchasing a Magneti Marelli one. It was pretty much identical to the one I removed. Also, I could reuse the Land Rover filter, which seemed higher quality than the replacement.
It is still running a year later, plus after bleeding the fuel system, the car started the first time.
      I hope this helps.

@@alexgreentransplantmechanic That is awesome, thanks Alex... the link you sent doesn't ship to New Zealand... but I'm tracking down a few leads now I have the pump part number to go on. Much appreciated. I may do a video on mine when I get it - I'll have to see, I'm going to be a little time-pressured on this one as I've got a trip coming up and need it fixed before I go (assuming I can get one delivered in time). Thanks again :) Steve

Thank you for the video. What is the rated pump pressure of the old and the new pump installed?

A good pump should give a reading of around 7psi (0.5 Bar) depending on the condition of the fuel filter and ambient temperature, so a low pressure could also be caused by a blocked or old fuel filter.
Also check the fuse and relay.
The old pump I replaced was giving under 3psi on idle and dropping to 1.5psi when revving the engine.
Always read the diagnostic codes to rule out the high pressure fuel pump as well, the reason I changed the low pressure fuel pump was to cure a persistent issue with the vehicle going into low power mode.

@@alexgreentransplantmechanic thank you for the response. I am asking for the pressure indicated on the pump markings.

There were no markings on the pump to indicate the pressure. According to the manufacturer the replacement pump has the following specifications:
      Flow rate
      100 l/h
      Input Voltage
      12 V
      Operating Pressure
      3 bar
