Having done all that work, if it makes you feel any better my 19 year old Discovery 3 also takes a little longer cranking over before it fires for the first time each morning (even during the summer). I just put it down to the fact that she is an old lady now and needs a bit longer to wake up each morning. However, once she is awake, she still goes like a rocket! Like the both of you Christian and Vera, I couldn’t live without my D3. You have not wasted your or any body else’s time with this exercise. You have probably saved all of us a huge amount of time in us now not trying to do the same process. Thank you!

Hi Guys, there is no doubt in my mind that you are a great team and make really good videos, but this one starring Vera is one of the BEST. Pull up a chair Christian and have a glass of beer !!
If it would be only about avoiding buying cheap that would be easy. But today you frequently buy expensive parts from well known brands which are still bad or even does not fit. Really annoying...🤬
What a joy to see Vera doing your job she seems as though she has been doing it for years. A great video guy and how easy you make these repairs look and Christian you need to let Vera do some more repairs love watching her work you are a good teacher ❤
Another excellent Sunday viewing, Christian you are a great teacher and so patience 😂 If you write the book id probably buy it even though I dont have a wife, still my Disco 1 is older than yours and i still watch your videos😂

Another Sunday morning instalment of fun and games with Christian and Vera! Hopefully the wrist injury will be fully resolved very soon, or Christian is going to have to adopt Vera’s ‘Oh my God’, phrase 🤣
Most importantly, you two have extended the original pump's life indefinitely as it should be running cooler from a.) not working as hard and b.) the more consistent flow rate of cooling fuel.
Christian needs to be closley monitored with that inspection camera. 😮 reminds me of a kidney stone procedure I had a few years ago. Hope his injury heals well. Love your content and energy guys.
Christian I think this vid shows who the real automotive engineer is; well done Vera. As you might expect in the UK we make a noise irrespective of the day. Mow our lawns at night and so on. Great episode thanks.
Good morning from Birmingham, uk. What miracle doi need to perform to get one of your stickers. Love the chemistry between you both and the knowledge you share with people is priceless. I'm currently the owner of a D3 and a freelander 2. The Freelander 2 i have owned for 6 years and apart from regular things like tyres and servicing which i do myself, i have only spent £450 on repairs which is a new propshaft which i am fitting today when i finish my coffee. Would be nice to get your opinion on these cars. Keep up the good work. " See you next week "
I had this issue on my series 2. It was a very slight air leak before the fuel pump that allowed the fuel to return to the lowest point of the line. New line and connectors fixed the problem. I hope your wrist recovers quickly and well done to Vera for stepping in
I have my LR Times fix. The world is bearable for one more week 😜. Vera, Christian, thank you. You guys never fail to put a smile on my face. I even learn a thing a two!
A great video, as always, you two are a high light of Sunday. To replace the fuel pump on a D2, you have to remove the carpet from the rear cargo area, to remove the carpet, you have to remove the side trim panels. Or pull the carpet out of the way. You can but the whole pump for a lot of dollars, or just replace the actual pump part for a lot less. Sadly Lemforder front anti way bar links are not available here.
That’s what I call teamwork well done you two I won’t be changing my 300 tdi defender any time soon modern cars far too complicated thank you for great video as usual
It feels good to look at your Discovery`s diesel tank filler neck pipe covered with nitrile glove and cable tie. Very simple and very efficient way to cover it from dirt. We have a Ford made TDCI diesel and it always starts at fourth compression stroke. If it doesn`t, something is wrong. Once low quality brown o-rings had leaked air in from high pressure pump and it caused bad starting.
Your passion, and dedication to LR, is remarkable. That fuel pump has same design philosophy of my 2005 td5 Defender. I changed it with a chinese replica because it was much cheaper, and at the time I lacked funds. The Chinese replica is noisy whining away continuosly. It still works after 5 years. I would love to hear your opinion on the newer plug in hybrids on the market like the discovery, range, and defender. Thanks!
One great thing about having your wife work with you: when you have a bad day she is not oblivious as to why you are stunned and defeated at the end of the day. This man is wise to share his trials and tribulations with his wife. She may even go the through the exact same feelings he does, but at the end of the day she has actually helped him.
Great job Vera! And Christian always has some great one-liners! When you find the book about "How to get more from your wife Day, AND night", please send us the link hahah
Hi vera and christian.the only way to go is to service original parts.most replacement parts are rubbish.once again vera to the rescue(over seen by christian) you go girl😂😊😊
That injury sucks and worse your not even pushing yourself when it happened, wonder if your wrist joint is OEM or aftermarket ;) Great job Vera stepping up (literally) and getting the job done!
Given you like Australian anecdotes, I had a rodent chew through the top of my fuel tank where the pump is, causing a pretty large fuel leak, when on a trip to Cape York. Land Rover Cairns plastic welded the hole and I was back on the road 12 hours later!
Excellent content again thank you,,some years ago i had a l r discovery,a 2002 and i was told to never use heater plugs,i never used them.even in winter it started straight away.
If an in-tank fuel pump has to be a complicated mess then Land Rover will find a way to implement it. I recently changed the in-tank fuel pump in my wife's Polo GTI - took less than an hour at my very slow pace. Lift rear seat squab, remove large rubber sealing piece, unplug one electrical connector and two one finger fuel lines. Unscrew large outer "nut", lift out the pump assembly. Re-seat rubber sealing ring, drop in new pump, screw large outer nut, plug in 2 fuel lines and one electrical connector. Refit large rubber seal, replace rear seat squab. German design vs English design :)

Great video as usual. I'd recommend using fuel stabilisers every time you fill up. I've been using them for 10 years and I don't get any horrible gunk building up in the fuel system. The injectors stay cleaner also.
AAAHH, Now we know who is the real Queen, Well done Vera! Thanks to both off you for the entertainment, it is always a happy sunday with your videos!! (if Vera get tired off Kristian, let me know???)😀
If the fuel flow is the same I don't understand how cleaning the pre filter has helped? I would have thought the 2 primary causes would have been leak back pipes or an injector/fuel rail not holding overnight? Great video as usual though👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇬🇧
Another awesome video, thank you guys. I'm about to do this very thing on my wife's Disco 3 (so I was taking notes in order to stay off the couch 😂). Ours has 350,000km, so I am thinking the pump is probably getting a bit worn (ours not only has the slow-to-start problem, it also throws codes and limps if you hold your foot flat to the floor for too long). I'm told(?!) the OEM pump insert in the white housing is a Magneti Marelli part, number MAM00041, so I am going to try replacing just that part, while keeping the rest of it original. Mainly because I've also come to the same conclusion about the complete after market pump assemblies that you did, and the OEM ones are too far out of our budget. Unfortunately , this is one job that I can not afford to do properly, so I am willing to perhaps have to do it twice (or thrice!)... Keep up the awesome work, cheers!
