This was the second game I played on the day our family got a c64 for Christmas. It was on a TPUG game compilation. As an aside, I read a write-up about the game, I think in TPUG magazine that said the author wrote most of it on paper while on an assignment in Antartica.
I preferred the other Star Trek game, which had a nicer graphics display, however I do like that this one keeps the game window on the screen all the time. The one thing that always bugged me about the other version was the way it would just print stuff to the screen, causing the game window to scroll off the top of the screen. It would be redrawn and didn't affect anything, but it always looked messy.
I learned to "cheat" on this game when I played it as a kid. Hit the Run/Stop key, clear the screen and start changing variables: e = current energy, e0 = max recharged energy at starbase. Then type "cont" and hit the number 2 to redraw the screen.
Instead of Quadrant it should have been Sector, the game was fun in its limited capacity. No Romulans, no away teams, just ships and attacks. You also had to realize what KBS meant in the map/LRS
@@Underdrummer the trick is to run to a star base, recharge then go in with phases at 3000. Then run back to SB to recharge. Use the Long range sensors, the left degit is Klingon ships, the middle is SB, and the right is stars.

Loved this game. Classic.
Didn’t know what “Corbimite” was when I first played this - found out real quick. 💥😂
Whatever you do, do not select the Corbomite command ... not unless you absolutely have to!
Excellent sounds!
i loved this game!

Played this endlessly on the c64 as a kid. Even used to throw myself across the living room when my ship was hit.
I was an 'interesting' child...

I used to play this one. Good game
I knew how to move the ship and fire torpedos. Don't recall ever using the shields or visiting starbases... NO wonder I never lasted long :(
good stuff great fun!
nice memories
OMG... i never been able to play this for more than few minutes...
My favorite thing was to purposely crash going into the star base!
Was it just me or was your first round of phaser fire always unable to penetrate their shields no matter how much energy you put in???

What does KBS mean?
Klingons/Bases/Stars
Great attempt - I've never beat this. You?
I'm pretty sure I have, at some point. If not on the emulator, then on an actual Commodore 64.
I am trying to beat this right now. So difficult! I am using this game for one of my Checking Out episodes.
What a deceptively fun strategy game!

Maldus Alver, thanks for the tips. Main problem is I keep running out of time!
EGA Trek is more better :D
