  • My Sega Star Trek arcade game is now working 100%. Finally got the sound board repaired, thanks to Mongo from the KLOV boards. Love this game!

Man, I played this at the local arcade way back in the day. Mr. Spock speaking was the coolest part.

They had this game at the Daytona Mall arcade across from the Daytona Six theaters in 1982. It was a "walk in" type of game where you sat down inside an enclosure on a small bench which made it feel as if you were "flying" the ship. It was decorated on the outside to make it more appealing and also would entice you in with voice over's done by Star Trek cast members saying famous sayings from the T.V. show as you walked by the game or close to the enclosure. It also had exciting sounds!

This, starwars and the standup tron games were the nerd trifecta of the arcades. Games are great now but the arcade experience was a generational treasure.

Gotta love vector graphics games. Definitely a cut above the standard raster scan pixel graphics games. 3-D playing field, rapid firing, bright colors, crisp\clear lines...fricking AWESOME! Thanks for rescuing, restoring, and preserving this classic arcade game and sharing it with us.

This is the ultimate game from the early era: it's the text-based Trek game from the mainframes, Atari Star Raiders, and the crystaline beauty of Tempest all rolled into one.

Man this brings back memories. I've only seen two cabinets of this game back when it was originally released. One was a regular cabinet and the second was the sit down version. Back then I was still gamer in training on my Atari 2600 so I couldn't quite keep up (this being hi tech back then). But wow, glad to see someone still has this in working condition.

I loved the arcade version of this game! This does it justice...the Atari and other versions did not translate well at all.
I played the standing version in the arcade at the old Sunnyvale Town Center mall. Once you grasp the warp capabilities, you can dominate the game.
It also came in a beautiful seated cockpit version similar to the old Star Wars vector graphics game. When I played seated, I didn't fare as well for some reason.
Thanks for posting this! The sounds triggered some serious sense memory in my mind...wonderful!

The home game systems back in the day weren't able to reproduce arcade perfect games. Now that they are (Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox360) it's a shame that NOT all of the quarter munchers we / I played in the arcade have not come home to them. Am I grateful for the few releases that are out? Yes. But I know there could be more...and Star Trek: Strategic Operation Simulations, is one of them.

There ARE people who know how to play this well AND make videos. I learned from them that for the first 10 rounds you should dock at all starbases to build up your shields and photons past the 4 shown on the screen.

This is my 1st choice for a game I'd love to own. I'm heading to FunSpot in NH and they have the sit-down version, so I'll be playing ST:SOS a lot this week!
I've heard the vector monitor is prone to catching fire; owners are encouraged to modify it, to decrease the chances.

    • @BuckieBear
      @BuckieBear 8 років тому

+Mark Daniels I've heard that, too. I understand that a television monitor would work, instead.

Every damn time I go to FunSpot, this game is not in service. I only get to go once a year when I take my family up to Attitash for a week in early July. I'd love to play this again. Haven't played it since I was in high school (when it came out). Would love it if they fixed it (and the Dragon's Lair cabinet, which always has something wrong with it - either the button or a joystick that doesn't register some movements).

I also remember when I first had my parents purchase the classic snowbound/parchment colored"Star Trek" t-shirt that shows the starship enterprise attacking a klingon vessel. It was Stephen Marceron, who may have stepped on the back of my t-shirt: thus leaving a boot print on it. 🖨 👕 😢

I remember playing this in a sit down arcade booth many moons ago! BTW...you did a great jobs on KITT-X. I'm sure it was sad to see him go but you must've gotten an offer that was too good to refuse. Since you're a KR fan...you might want to check out the video on my channel with an "age corrected" version of KITTs voice from the GE locomotive commercial. I got it as close as I could to sounding more like KITT from back in the day.

1980's I played this game on the highest difficulty settings when I worked at Tex Critters Pizza Jamboree. I mastered and became highest scores ever. I am GAC and AAA along with other random initials. Anybody know if possible to get this video game for my computer, any of the modern game stations or the actual console? Even something close to it would be fun to have and play.
