Wilson Triad Golf Ball Review | 2024

- Опубліковано 6 сер 2024
- It has been almost two years since I reviewed the Wilson Triad. I didn't have very much luck the first time around. However, I love that all of you provided such wonderful feedback, even if it was disagreeing with me. You all have asked for a re-test. So here we are, was I wrong about the Wilson Triad?

I found this ball putts extremely well. Very consistent
Consistency is key my friend. 😃
Wow! What timing. I found two Triads today. Had no idea about the ball. I did the thumbnail test it felt like I could spin it very well so I took it to the pitching green along with my pro v1. I could not believe how much better it stopped than the pro v. I’m going to play by myself Wednesday morning and I’ll play two balls: the triad and the pro v.
Hey that's awesome! When you complete that testing please let me know what your findings were. 😃
I am curious about your findings as well
I played 9 holes and played 2 ball … Pro V1 and the triad. I have a slow swing speed of about 90 - 92 MPH but I carry a 7 handicap. I’m handy with fairway woods and a solid wedge game. I rarely miss a fairway. I’ve played Titleist since 1975. I was impressed with all facets of the Triad. Distance was as good or better than the Pro V. The most significant difference for me was that approach shots from 150 to 170 stopped quicker with the Triad. For example, I had several 150 Yd approach shots I carried each about 150 but the Pro V released about 6 ft more than the Triad. The Triad, for me, had a “harder” feel. I’m going to continue that try it some more.

Man, thank you!! I am heading back home after 2 months and will be golfing day 1, 2, and 3 with the Triad. Crazy how the Triad can stop as well or better with an aproach shot than the pro v1. Best to ya,I will let you know my experience too
Very timely review!
I tried the Triad v Vice Pro and i have to agree that you are 100% correct in your findings on the Triad.
Long off the tee, shorter off the irons. Excellent putting ball.
Vice Pro went like a rocker but short game spin was a little disappointing with too much roll out.
Testing the Callaway Chrome Soft next in very windy conditions. In fact, a par 3 yesterday at 172, i punched a driver to pin high! Crazy!! Oregon coast conditions.
Great review!
Thank you very much for taking the time to watch and share your feedback. I appreciate it so much 😃
Low single digit handicap here, I use the Triad ball and love it. General rule to go by: If you can't hit close to 120 mph ball speed with your 7 iron on a consistent basis (or 120+ if you use stronger lofted irons), then you should not be going near any ball that is 80+ compression rating. With my 31 degree lofted 7 iron my poor strikes on the Triad are still 118-120 ball speed, for context.
I've never heard that particular reference before, but I definitely agree with it. I seem to have much better luck and results with golf balls under the 80 compression Mark and as you can see my average is around 113 miles an hour.
I'm a 5 and a former +3.
$12 a dozen on Rock Bottom Golf and one of the best balls you can play.
The Spalding SD Tour 3 piece Urethane TPU cover ball.
People playing big name balls are suckers.
Just curious, not criticizing. Why is the LPGA chocked full of the Pro V1x and 90+ compression balls then?
At least you Triad-it again 😂
I bought a dozen as my buddy got a Wilson discount and I was still meh. It did seem when I hit it flush it was a champ, but an off hit I could tell I was losing distance at an unexpected amount. And now your video confirmed it.
PS - I liked the screenshots from your session. Provided great context between the differing shots.
LOL I appreciate the pun.
Thank you very much for that. I was testing them out to see how they ended up looking and I think it ends up having a little extra detail to the video.
Good one
Wilson markets this ball to the golfer in the low 80's wanting to get into the 70's. They say the perimeter weight helps with a straighter flight. I'm a 8 hcp with a 95 driver speed. I am the target player for this ball and I think it really delivers. I can attest this is a very straight ball and that is a big reason why it is one of my top three balls. I saw a study run by another testing company that did robot testing on many balls and this ball was number 1 in tight dispersion. A few other things I have notices about this ball is I don't get a lot of height with my shots as some other balls. This is defiantly my go to ball in windy conditions. It must be that parameter weighting, but this is my favorite ball to put with, it roles so consistently. My only complaint is I had a ball in my last dozen where the paint started to peal after a few rounds. As far as forgiveness, I really haven't noticed any issues with irons especially 40 years with a 7 iron. But I will pay mor attention going forward.
Thank you very much for taking the time to provide this feedback. Lots of good stuff in here for sure!
Also, I completely agree. Wilson did mention that on the website when I was doing research. It's pretty cool the technology that goes into it as well as the accuracy and dispersion. Two underrated factors that a lot of people don't think about
@@GolfBallAddict Interesting that you pointed out that quality testing showed zero defects in the balls circumference. This will also lead to straighter shots and longer distance. Wilson built this ball for Accuracy and keeping the ball in the fairway to cut back on penalty strokes. That's how you go from 81 to 78.
I completely agree with you review.
For my short game practice I exclusively uses the Triad. It has an amazing feeling but also enough unforgiveness and feedback to be a perfect training aid.
I tried it on the course a few rounds and found it too unforgiving for my skill level. Too many mishits.
So for me it's the perfect practise ball...
Awesome take. I am honestly thinking about just putting with it. It has such a great roll
I use this ball too, it was very good! Thanks Nick
Appreciate you as always sir 😃
Bought a couple dozen of the Wilson Zip based on your videos. Looking forward to trying them on the course later this week.
I'm glad they're still available for sale. I was getting kind of nervous but I'm glad people can still pick them up.
Please let me know how you like them for sure any feedback is appreciated
New to the channel and am enjoying the content.
Thank you very much. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment for the algorithm. It really helps the channel out a lot 😃
Awsome Ball ,Shot Even Par 71 ,Bombed it and really enjoyed it. Was great around the Greens ,only problem is scuffs to Easily.
I'm surprised to hear that, the ball for me was a 10 out of 10 durability and it was one of the best I've tested in a long time. Over 80 shots with it and I can't even find a speckle. Looks brand spanking new.
I will keep that in mind though, maybe I'll do some additional testing
@@GolfBallAddict My Vokey wedges tear em up ,old Ball Player .Spin them an lot
GREAT review as always!! I actually had bought a dozen of these blindly. As you know I am an 85 MPH swinger. After a few holes I gave them away. Too firm for me with driver, but especially with irons as I tend to toe and felt awful.
I agree completely, there was a couple Miss hits I had that really stung the hands good
@@GolfBallAddict still looking forward to your Chrome Soft review! I saw one but I believe that was the old ball not 2024.
Played some holes with this ball over the weekend. That part about flying straight is true. By far the straightest ball I have ever hit. I will keep some in the bag for par 3's. Not a fan off the tee as I lose too much. Mishits are about a club or 2 short. Everything else, it's straight. I need to check out wilson staff tour x (I like a firmer ball) or wilson tour and pray it's close to straight as tge triad.
Great video. So the 10-13 handicap, 90-95mph driver swing speed would you still , currently, go for the Vice pro balls?
Thanks very much for the information.
Thank you very much. I appreciate it!
To answer your question, I still recommend those vice golf balls for that range. If you like a firmer feel the pro should be fine but honestly the air right now is doing wonders for me
I like this ball. Used to play Titleists back in the day (when I was 16) because like everyone I bought into the ProV1 hype. Revisiting the game years later with some new clubs, a lot more muscle and a more curious approach my fitter recommended me trying this (23 years old now).
I am a fan of nuking it and I must admit these feel great coming off the clubface, good compression, feel lovely off of wedges and putters....and cheaper than a ProV model! I do not complain about this ball at all and, to be fair, I don't think someone that's high single hcp would notice much of a difference between this and a ProV model
Thank you so much for sharing your feedback.
This backs up my findings. If you are swinging fast enough to Nuke it, that I think the golf ball is going to react and perform pretty well.
@@GolfBallAddict I agree with your findings! The ball chooses the wizard, so to speak. Of course it's why it is good to have different types of balls on the market to choose from :)
Loe your vids. LOVE the hat even more!
Thank you very much. Go cards
Thanks Nick, for the excellent retest. I had very similar results with the higher compression and lack of forgiveness. I enjoyed the ball for chipping and putting but lost strokes on my other clubs.
Curious, if you were playing a tournament and the goal was to get the lowest score possible, which ball would you play at your current skill level?
Definitely a two-piece. I've played my best rounds with the Snell get sum. Speed soft ink is also a great contender right now for me too.
If the course I'm playing at has smaller greens, but bigger fairways, I might use a wright and ditson or a vice ProAir.
The main reason is the forgiveness. If I'm playing in a tournament my goal is fairway than middle of green and hopefully run into some birdies. I'm just not good enough yet to consistently attack flags. I'll end up in the sand or on this hits I don't want to be pitching into the green for shot three
@@GolfBallAddict that’s an interesting, and wise approach, in my opinion. My only hangup with 2 piece balls is their stopping power on the greens. I prefer something with a urathene cover so the rollout is reduced from approach or chip shots. I’ve just found the 2-piece doesn’t grab enough. But it all comes down to confidence in the ball you’re playing, doesn’t. Personally, I score best with the Vice Pro Air.
@@GolfBallAddict if price was no concern, would you go with a Callaway Chrome Soft or still play the 2-piece?
i found one in the woods, used it,,, bought a dozen. absolute rockets off club.
Nice. 👍😃
I was late coming to this ball. Came across some written reviews and thought why not. Bought a box, played a round and then went looking for some video reviews to gauge the reaction compared to what i was feeling. For me the ball feels soft off the face of short irons, it spins well ... Maybe not the highest spin but it feels very good. Off the longer clubs it doesn't feel too soft and does fly well. Not the longest but above average and certainly competitive. Given the price point, I picked up a dozen in the UK for £29.99 at my local driving range. At that price point is fabulous value and the cover holds up much better than more premium balls.
I think that's a good assessment. I imagine you probably swing just a little bit faster than I do based on how you felt the golf ball. But everything else is spot on with what I had.
What’s the best urethane ball you have tested for average players? I’m playing the TM tour response regularly. Good distance need more spin though. I did play the TM ink for 6 holes yesterday 7/8/24. I like it!
Q star tour, vice pro line, Chrome soft, legato, wright and ditson, sugar, snell. Honestly there have been a ton of winners. I might need to do a video on it
@@GolfBallAddict Thank you!
8 handicap i play only triad and staff model. 100% agree with assessment that you lose A LOT of distance on mishits with irons. Not too bad with driver, but the 4 iron gets punished bigtime. Still love these balls, though i will mention that the wedges really do eat through the cover. Balls are good for 1 round and maybe a practice round after that.
Good to know. Honestly most golf balls get decently punished on a four iron already. I can't imagine with a ball like the triad
This and the Wilson Zip I play both just love Wilson golfing balls
Me too. I also have another Wilson review coming out in a day or so
The Triad replaced the old Wilson Duo Professional. I played the Pro but haven't liked the Triad too well. I have a 101 driver swing speed. I have been playing the Duo Soft 2.5's this year. My handicap is a 9. Which ball would you recommend? If you haven't noticed, I like the Wilson's but I'm curious what your recommendation would be..... Nice video by the way.
Honestly I'm a big fan of the Wilson staff model. Lets you stay in the Wilson family. If that's a little too expensive,
I've tested a bunch of really good golf balls this year including the new vice line and Snell line. Both are awesome for the money
Thanks for all the info. Do you have a list/video of the most forgiving golf balls?
Not yet. For now I would stick to the top 20 out of my top 100 list. There are a few golf balls that I talk about how great the forgiveness is.
Off the top of my head I know that the vice air from this year did really well. I also know the Wilson zip is kind of the standard because it's the best I've tested for forgiveness
Thanks 👍
I tried this ball last year when My Golf Spy said they were a great ball. I wanted so badly for this to be my go to ball, since I’m big into DTC balls and I could pick these up at DSG, but hated them. They felt like a rock, lost a lot of distance especially when I didn’t hit it on the screws. Not going down this rabbit hole again, marked them off my list.
That seems to be my finding as well. I wish they would keep the technology but soften the golf ball up a little bit. Maybe into the mid-70s for compression and it will do a lot better for average swingers
4 hours ago? SWEEEEEET!!
New stuff all the time 😃💯💯🥳
You're breaking my heart man! I love how this golf ball feels in plays. It's my current gamer. That said, my home course is a tight one and I have struggled with out of bounds shots since I returned to the game a year and a half ago. Before finding this channel, I had not considered forgiveness in golf balls. What would you recommend a 13 handicap with a 105 driver and 90 mph iron swing. A ball that is really forgiving but also will stick greens?
Just from what I have tested recently, here are some favorites.
Legato 3085
Wright and ditson
Snell 4.0
Vice pro Plus. 2024 model
Maxfli x
Mizuno tour x
I know that's a lot of answers but any of those would give you the same amount of spin and distance but also not sacrifice forgiveness
@@GolfBallAddict awesome! Thanks for taking the time to respond. I'll check some of these out
@GolfBallAddict
That maxfli x huh?? Good to know
At 85 compression, the obvious comparison here is the Pro V1. I find the Triad to be slightly less spin and a slightly lower ball flight.
I will, however say that the Maxfli Tour CG is on sale for $105 for 4 dozen. In my opinion, if you’re an 85 compression player, Maxfli is the better value and better ball.
I forgot to mention it in the video but I completely agree about the low ball flight. When I was doing the 50 yard pitch, I could not believe how low the ball was coming off the club. Took everything just to get it a little in the air
@@GolfBallAddict I normally pitch 50 yards with my 54 degree wedge. Low isn’t necessarily bad, if the ball has enough spin to stop and without over-rotating on the driver. The ball reminds me of a Pro V1 in firmness, but with flight characteristics similar to the AVX.
Mr. Shorthitter was talking up the Triad several months ago, now you. Think I'll have to give it a go.
If you do, please let me know your thoughts. 😃
What are you using as your baseline numbers for ball speed, launch angle, distance and carry?
It's an average taken from all other golf balls that have been reviewed on the same circumstance. We've tested over 120 at this point. So it's just the average of every single golf ball.
@@GolfBallAddict Thank you. Get channel
Whats with the barbwire fence? Are you in a work-release program?? Jk...good review. I may try the Triad after this review.
Lol. Actually the truth of the matter, believe it or not, is that the previous owner had a pigeon coup in that fenced in area. For some weird reason, pigeon racing is really popular in my area. He would spend thousands of dollars on pigeons, so the barbed wires were to prevent people from stealing them.
Can't make that stuff up lol
Would you say a higher swing speed would get more forgiveness on mishits?
Yes. Obviously the higher the better, but 110 mph for a good efficiency
@@GolfBallAddictthanks for the reply love your videos!!
You should try the Wilson Elite Fifty golf ball. A really good ball at a good price.
I tested the old version and didn't have much luck, but there is a new updated version and I want to try it
Would you do the Wilson zip on the new monitor
Absolutely
Triad vs. Zip? I know they're for different player groups. Wanting to see sims and diffs.
Two totally different balls on opposite sides of the spectrum.
The Wilson zip is an extremely soft, springy golf ball that rockets off the club. Distance increases with every club. And what I love the most is that it's the most forgiving golf ball I've tested so far. Prices around a dollar a golf ball
Triad is for advanced players who are extremely skilled iron strikers. Not very much forgiveness and a firmer feel. Unless you are a low single digit handicap or better I would use the zip
Interesting. Im a pretty decent striker (5 handicap) but making secind guess trying these out for sure...
I'm loving putting with them.
I purchased a dozen because of the balancing claim. No big deal there. Otherwise, I agree that you need to swing it faster than I do (98-100mph driver) to fully max it out and also to not suffer from misses.
100%. I've had a few people comment on this review and be really upset simply because I said the golf ball was unforgiving. Here's the reality though, it is
I play Bridgestone tour b xs balls .. picked up a sleeve to try from the pro shop .. played them along side of my ball for 4 holes … that was all .. I lost all 3. Was even par with my balls .. idk but I don’t hit them well at all 😂
Also the Bridgestone balls are 39.99 a dozen at Walmart
I think as long as you can absolutely pure your irons they work just fine. But man was I losing confidence when I was mis hitting them.
I did the online ping golfball fitting. This ball was recommended. I played with them for about a month then stopped. The balls just fell out of the wait. I feel vindicated after watching this.
Still waiting for the RZN review!
The rzns are coming very soon. I had actually tried to review them with my old launch monitor, however it wouldn't pick them up. The new one does though 😃
The Triad was pretty low on your top 100 list. Where do you think it would fall now after reviewing it again?
That's a really good question. I don't think I could give it an exact spot, but I definitely would say it's in the top 40 with a chance to be in the top 30. Until I always crunch the numbers though I never know.
I can definitely tell you it'll be higher on the list this time though
I took a sleeve out for twilight and played 2 balls. Triad.. and a vice pro soft. I was unimpressed with the triad. Wilson’s tour ball is great but the triad for $40 isnt the best option at that price.
Fair enough. Appreciate you taking the time to watch and share your experience😃
triad is fine, but the staff model is better.
I love the staff model 😃🥳
Why are the 9 iron results so different to the 7 iron? Seems like evidence against the points you are making later on about forgiveness
Not if all the nine iron strikes are good. I left all 15 shots that were made with the nine iron opposed to I had to delete four or five from the seven iron.
It's not very often I have a perfect run, but it is decently common with the nine iron. However if there are no Miss hits to gauge then I can't really touch on the forgiveness.
Your channel reminds me of a channel called Golf Noob. Yiu should check him out
That's awesome. I'll have to check him out
The Wilson Staff is a much better ball for us slower swingers.
Eh 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Well it's interesting you say that, the Wilson staff model is a four piece and I seem to recall liking the feel a lot better. It probably needs a retesting as well
Interesting results but that price point is steep
35 bucks? That price is really good even by direct to consumer standards. There aren't too many 3 piece urethane in that price range.
Still though. Appreciate you watching and sharing your thoughts. 😃😁
considering how many times you've putted on that surface they were shit putts!🤣
I absolutely can't stand that hole. That putt is the stuff of nightmares. If you leave it too up top it doesn't break at all, and once you hit the breaking point you have to hit the ball hard enough to just rock the back of the cup. It's impossible to let it trickle in.
LOL honestly I need to reroll that thing
@@GolfBallAddict 🤣 Yeah a nice big join in it too!!...Good videos though!
Not made for us average golfers. Obviously Wilson make very good golf balls, they also make some really bad golf balls. This is made for the above average player.
And I am completely okay with it. Wilson makes a lot of great golf balls for both the average golfer as well
It’s a mid spin ball.
👍
This can’t be serious…you lost 10mph on ballspeed and you call that a decent strike. 😂
It is serious. The ball is punishing on Miss hits. I've tested over 130 at this point and I always test forgiveness. You are free to believe what you want.
God bless
