Added a 7 wood a few months back and have 9 wood on order. 14 handicap longest iron in a 5 but probably gonna ditch it play 7 wood 9 wood 27 degree hybrid. So much easier hitting those clubs
I got a 7 wood a few months back and I love it for long par 4s and getting out of trouble. I wasn’t necessarily bad w a 4 iron but any sort of mishit and it’s going the same distance as my 5 iron. 7 wood is a lot more forgiving and easier to hit out of many lies. Plus the loft gives you so much confidence looking at it
I have had a 7 wood for years. Current is a PXG that I custom ordered with a driver shaft. It is a freaking weapon. I bet I hit it a dozen times a round.
Trottie - I have been a 4-wood + 7-wood player for several years, and I had been playing a 16.5* 4-wood (often turned down to 15.75*), plus a 21* 7-wood (usually set to 20* loft) along with a 4-hybrid. Recently, I started playing just a 5-wood plus a stronger 4-hybrid (21* loft, plus 1/2” in length😊). However, I missed my 7-wood and it went back in my bag before I traveled to Scotland for some links golf in late May and early June this year. I know that on the tight fescue fairways and windy conditions of the links courses the idea is to keep the ball low. For doing that, I had a 19* driving/utility iron; however, that 7-wood came in very handy on long par 3s (can you say hole #16 at Carnoustie and the 238-yard par 3 15th hole at North Berwick?). I also used my 7-wood out of some relatively shallow fairway bunkers, particularly at The Old Course. I don’t think that the 7-wood is coming out of my bag any time soon. Even though I have cracked the carbon crown on the club and done a couple of epoxy repairs to it, it’s still in my bag, and I have a couple of backup 7-woods that I have been experimenting with so I will have a replacement when my 7 or 8 year old current 7-wood finally gives up the ghost!
I game a stealth 2 9 wood, it’s my favourite club in my bag. It lands soft, I play it out of any lie and even bunkers. Even if you screw up and hit it thin there’s so much loft it still gets elevated
2 months ago after buying a Cobra F9 5 Wood something clicked with that club, a bought a Cobra F9 7 wood mint, never been hit for £130 ………. Wow that club changed my game, off the tee fairway finder 230-235 +, fade & draw shots no problem. Off the deck 220-225+. Downwind, send it high watch it fly controlled flight. Trottie you are right, a unique club for all types of shots can’t rate it highly enough ……..high , medium or low handicapper !
I hit two of my best 7 wood shots last weekend one out of fairway bunker over a huge tree and on the green from like 240. And another one from 265 down wind. I just launched it 120ft and hit to 13ft missed the eagle. LoL. My 7 wood I put a 5wood shaft on it. Love it 😊
I've had my 7w for a year now and dropped the 4 iron from my bag as I find the 7w easier to hit. It's got to be one of my favorite clubs to hit, if I go wide off the tee and end up on the other fairway this club normally has the high to get over the trees but also the distance
Got a Stealth 2 7 wood built up and used it for the first time this past week. Had some time so I wouldn’t be hitting into groups ahead and played two balls with my approach shots. Had two awesome shots and two shots that weren’t awesome (but fell in acceptable range). Could be a real game changer. Liked the feel and may use a long iron as a punch out club or wind cheating situational club.
I’m not playing at present, but I always had a calaway 7 wood that my dad gave me, It was my most comfortable club to hit , I could change the pitch, club up club down , play back in stance and hit low too , unexplainable apart from “confidence “ go to club, no right or wrong for us amateurs
I’ve had the Qi10 9 wood for months now and love it! It’s my get out of jail free card. Any lie, any surface, it’s going 200-220 a mile in the air and landing soft.
I hit my long irons decently. I have been a hybrid fan for a while...they're just easier to hit than an iron. I threw a 7W and a 9W into the bag and OMG...they go farther and land softer. Great second shot clubs into a green.
I got a AI Smoke triple diamond 7W and a Qi 10 tour 5W. The Qi has a deeper face allowing me to have more shaft lean giving a really nice penetrating flight. I can hit it like an iron. It’s my 3W replacement off the tee. The 7W is my weapon of choice to attack par 5s in 2 or the occasional long par 3. I hit it between 220 and 230. AI smoke has a shallower face and it just launches the ball 120 in the air for me. I’ve had more Eagle chances this season than the past 2 combined and it’s all thanks to my 7W.
Hit the Qi10 max 7 wood today, I’m sold. Your info on shafts is very interesting. It’s the only reason why I haven’t bought it yet. All the stock shaft options are not for me
I loved my 7 wood, but got fitted out of it for the Qi10 max 5 wood (19°)to get a better gapping between my 3 wood and 4i. Loving my 5 wood but missing the 7 wood
Trottie, it's like you're making videos based on my TaylorMade order history! I just bought a QI10 Tour 5 wood on Friday. (I called customer service about getting the QI10 tour 6 wood that was available over the summer, but I was told they're not available anymore?) I bought it to replace my 2i as we're getting into the dog days of summer and I've found my 2i just runs out a little too much for me on the firm fairways we're getting now and doesn't stop quite as well as I'd like. I'm hoping the 5 wood gives me a little bit more predictable distance off the tee, and more soft landings on greens!
I used to be a 2 iron player as drivers are not my kinda club. Struggled for years off the tee woth long irons and hybrids. Even a miss hit with a 7 wood is good its revolutionised my game and im steep. Next thing i need is mini driver
I have the new TM mini driver. I’ve taken the driver out. I hit every fairway. With driver I might hit it 20 mtrs further but I tend to slice or duff driver 1 to 2 times a round. I’m a 9 handicap player
Awesome vid and timely. I'm totally stuck with a hole in my gapping. 4 iron ripped is out near 200 m and 3 wood ripped at 240. I I'd rather back off the 4 to 190 and need a filler. I had the 3 wood shafted to be lower flight so it was kind of a mini drive before that was a thing so into wind or a baked course it was a runner. I was thinking of what to gap the 210-220m ish shot with. was contemplating 2 iron, but it's weird that mentally I feel I need to lean into irons but swing more freely with a wood as there is "more" club. Weird, but the golfing brain is weird. I'm thinking now driver for long and high, 3 wood low runner then back in an intermediate flight 7 wood to fill to the 4 iron that is slightly low as well. Thanks a bunch, I hadn't thought 7 wood as never had experience on it but this makes sense to me. I'll check it out with my 4 and 3 wood at the shop next visit to see where it sits. BTW hybrids just make me nauseous for some reason. Brain says NO! It's all options as you say. I also see the 7 wood as a cheeky bump and run option around the fringe if the wedges are on probation......again.
My 3 wood flies like this. I think I need a lower spin one or a stiffer ls shaft or both never seen spin or launch or height on a monitor but just looking at it on a range and hearing the spin on it. I just have never been fit since I don't have the funds.
I have a strange 7wood build in my bag and I love it. Ping g425 7wood with a 4 hybrid length and stiff low spin shaft. It’s my 235-240 club I use for finding tight fairways or attacking big par 5s. Top of my golf bag is wack. 5 iron is my last iron then it goes 7 wood, 2 iron, 2 wood, driver. 😂😂
Love my 7W! 4i is 225, 7W is 240, 3WHL is 260. Perfect fit in my bag. Off the tee, I can get about 255. I’m pretty shallow and this has taken my pull away off the box vs 4i.
I have 3w and 7w in my bag with same shafts and the difference in the clubs is night and day. I can't hit the 3w at all, topping and slicing it all the time but the 7w is a straight-ish bullet with high trajectory all the time consistently. It also fitts into my capping really well. 4i goes 195~ meters and 7w is around 210 to 220 meters whilst the 3 wood with good strike can go 240 or more but overall gives worse results. Highly recommend everyone trying a 7 wood! I am 1hcp 25year old. Looking for recommendations to fill the gap between 7 wood and driver 👀
The 7 is my next buy but i went to order it and it said we couldnt customize it snd it was all left hadned! Wonder who long it will be before they release the new stuff?

I can’t be the only one watching him repeatedly step up to & then step off the ball to keep talking, to be sitting here saying, DUDE HIT THE BALL. I recently traded in my 3W for a 5W. I tested the 7W too & was def tempted. I went w/the 5W for distance & flight control bc the 7W went so so high. But it was also incredibly consistent. So I get it.
@trottiegolf In the video, you mention very specific specs on setting up the 7 Wood for success. If one of us would get fit for a 7 wood, should we bring up some of the specs you talked about?
I can hit my 4 and 5 iron but I don't have the clubhead speed to get the ball high enough in the air for the ball to stop on the green, I use the 7 wood in place of my 4 iron and a 9 wood in place of my 5 iron. Both have the desired ball flight I need for them to hit softly on the green and stick. I'm a 7hc player and even though my bag looks funny carrying so many woods. D, 3, 5, 7 and 9, i don't really care because my scores have improved and really, that's all that matters.
instagram.com/p/DAq9xCCvDQA/ Not sure if this link will work but I saved this the other day from the Champions Tour account. The coolest cat there is Freddy Couples hitting his whole set. Look at the set make up and look at the rescue clubs. Tempo doesn't change. TOTAL FOCUS ON WHAT HE NEEDS AND GETTING THE JOB DONE
I can't get the link to work but I saw it. If I remember correctly, he carries from a 7 iron through his wedges and a ton of hybrids. I tried hybrids, I don't like the look of them behind the ball, I don't have the confidence that I can hit them well, now I can crush my fairway woods, I love the look of them behind the ball and I have extreme confidence that I can and will strike it well. By the way, I'm a TaylorMade guy! Stealth driver, sim 2 3, 5, 7 and 9 and p790 irons through the A wedge. I'm a Cleveland wedge guy though, RTX 6 in 54 and 58. I love my 790's, I can hit them long for a 52yo average golfer, id like to try the 770's, they are a little smaller and I like the more forgiving and rocket face of the 790's! Rock on with the videos, i watch every one of them and learn a lot!
i’m suppose to be having a qi10 7w coming my way from carlsbad as it’s replacing one of my clubs through warranty. but it’s been a couple of weeks now and hasn’t shipped. 😢
I have a question to ask. I currently have a 7W, but it is an old ADAMS club. I forgot I had purchased it several years ago and recently discovered it and started playing it again this year. It has no tech, adjustability, etc. like the TM or PING models. Should I consider upgrading to a more modern model. I use a 3H on windy and cold days & the 7W when the weather is great, please advise, TY
7 Woods need to feel good in the hand & be short in the shaft so you can get on top of the club IMO. If you're able to launch it in your window, apex it where you want it and hit your yardage then why change? I think a more recent model might be more forgiving but test what you have thoroughly before running out and making the purchase. Qi10 SO GOOD THOUGH. I am loving mine.
I was actively looking for a 7 wood online. Can't find any that come with an X stiff shaft. I'm ok with long irons but not comfortable and was looking for a replacement. I got a 5 wood but found on the t shots I planned to use it on the 5 wood was going too far and getting me in trouble. My course is a links course with bushes both sides on the holes I use that club on so the 7 wood would be the better option but can't find any that has the x stiff shaft. (Driving swing speed is 121mph)
I’ve got one of these and a 3 hybrid with loft sleeve turned up all the way that I’m trying to decide which one is more beneficial because they both go roughly the same distance. How much of a gap do you want between your longest iron and your next wood/hybrid?
@@trottiegolf that’s fair, appreciate your time to respond. Might have to go back to 3w, 7w, 4i and take the hybrid out. 7 wood just lands so soft it’s hard to compete with
I have a ping g410 hybrid and I can hit it ok. However I am seriously considering replacing my 4 hybrid with a 7 wood. Any thoughts and FYI I am a high handicapper if that matters any
Would a 7 wood clash too much with a 5 wood and 4 hybrid set up? Currently carry 13 clubs and have my 3 wood and 7 wood on the bench as my 5 wood and 4 hybrid are set. On track man gapping wise 7 wood splits the difference but functionality on the course I feel 3 wood serves a better purpose for actual real life golf (tee shots less than driver) but gapping wise 5 wood is identical. I should add my 5 wood is a low spin 5 wood so it automatically goes 20 years further than my old ping 5 wood.
Lol, I saw a video the other day of Freddy Couples playing Pebble Beach. He said: I am not as strong as I used to be sooo.....he has like 6 different woods in his bag and he said his longest iron is a 7 iron! Say it ain't so Freddy! Lol...
Tipped 2" If you've watched the channel for a while I'm very cautious throwing around the term "standard length" This one is: 41.50" End of Grip (EOG) , D3 swing weight, Tip 2" 57* lie New Proto part 80G X flex KBS 20* loft actual
hey trottie say someone needs stronger lofted irons, and the longest one is either the same or even stronger than the typical 18° 5W how do you go about this? is this fine or should they also go stronger lofted woods?
I replaced the 3-5 wood with a 7 a couple years ago. Id say for ammeters it's a smart move. The risk of topping and thinning 3 and 5 woods just isn't worth it.

I have Qi10 8.5 degree burner at 13.5 degree Qi10 5 wood 19 degree 9 wood at 24 degree then 5 iron at 23.5 degree, I find my gapping pretty good for all that being so wacky
Playing a Callaway UW 21* and absolutely love it.
Love mine too!
I have an older 7 wood which I can hit between 150 and 160meters.
I get out of bad lies with it easily.
Best club in my bag
I'm so glad I found your channel, I always get to see you in the Taylormade vids with Pros and Grant but I had always wanted to hear you talk about things more in depth. Clearly from those vids you know so much about the nitty gritty and wished I could see more YOU time in videos. SUBSCRIBED! Also super cool you're in Carlsbad, wished I played more courses in North County when I lived down there.
WELCOME TO THE CHANNEL!
Plus the loft gives you so much confidence looking at it
i love my 7W i am a 1 handed player and i struggle with some clubs and my 7w is my go to wood over a 3 or a 5
I'm an above knee amputee n have issues with the lower lofted clubs. Switched to a 4 wood & a 7 wood changed my game.
@@411adaptivegolf same here!!!
I have had a 7 wood for years. Current is a PXG that I custom ordered with a driver shaft. It is a freaking weapon. I bet I hit it a dozen times a round.
Trottie - I have been a 4-wood + 7-wood player for several years, and I had been playing a 16.5* 4-wood (often turned down to 15.75*), plus a 21* 7-wood (usually set to 20* loft) along with
a 4-hybrid.
Any player who is on back ups knows the club.
Great examples of where to use the 7 wood and love your understanding of adding in the rescue.
I game a stealth 2 9 wood, it’s my favourite club in my bag. It lands soft, I play it out of any lie and even bunkers. Even if you screw up and hit it thin there’s so much loft it still gets elevated
I have a 7 and a 5 wood and love them. Ping G430’s tho mainly for the adjustability
I love my 7W. Gaps nicely just above my 5 iron. I also use it out of fairway bunkers if I have a good lie.
Shorter and heavier - UK 7 wood set up. I run with D,3w,7w,5h,,5i etc. good gapping and versatile.
Love it 😊
Love my qi10 7w
Just bought a Wilson dynapowr 7 wood. It’s amazing, and cheaper than their counterparts
Me too!
Got 3,5,7 at a goodwill for $7 ea. Love them....when I hit them pure. Need to practice more with them.
Put one in bag 2 years ago. Favorite club in bag. Took 4 iron out of the bag.
I just put together a Rogue ST Max 7w & Mitsubishi tensei AV Blue 60g Stiff. It's 39.5". I used it for the 2nd shot on a par 5. So far, so good 👍
I’m not playing at present, but I always had a calaway 7 wood that my dad gave me, It was my most comfortable club to hit , I could change the pitch, club up club down , play back in stance and hit low too , unexplainable apart from “confidence “ go to club, no right or wrong for us amateurs
Love my QI10 7 wood!
I see you comment a lot. Thx for the input and engagement 👍
Games are changing and Trottie giving you options.

Love this❤❤❤❤
I’ve had the Qi10 9 wood for months now and love it!
I love my Titleist TSR2 7.
5 Hybrid serves this role for me, nice and high trajectory for soft landing and hold around the 175 to 200 yards.
My Taylormade R7 7 wood is absolutely the best club in my bag. I hit it long and straight almost every time.
One of my favorite clubs as a junior was a 7 wood, I'd hit that think from anywhere
I rock a qi10 7 wood. Considering upgrading to a velocore version of the shaft to match my driver. It’s such a weapon.
I'm a recent convert, 3w, 7w, 5i (17 index) 👍
Never mind the 7wood. That shirt is dope, Where’d you it Trottie?
Malbon Adidas collab
TSR2 7 wood with a tour AD HD, love it
I may have to buy a 7 wood , i really like my 5 wood and probably the best club i hit with
I'm really liking mine. Still testing but very good out of all lies. Obviously a lot is dependent on the golf course
Hit the Qi10 max 7 wood today, I’m sold. Your info on shafts is very interesting. It’s the only reason why I haven’t bought it yet. All the stock shaft options are not for me
@@robertstewart5235 I gotta be honest I wasn’t sure about it at first, but it’s turning into my favorite club
I loved my 7 wood, but got fitted out of it for the Qi10 max 5 wood (19°)to get a better gapping between my 3 wood and 4i. Loving my 5 wood but missing the 7 wood
I'm gaming a Titleist TSi 1 7w, with a 5w shaft, such a versatile club
Trottie, it's like you're making videos based on my TaylorMade order history! I just bought a QI10 Tour 5 wood on Friday. (I called customer service about getting the QI10 tour 6 wood that was available over the summer, but I was told they're not available anymore?)
I bought it to replace my 2i as we're getting into the dog days of summer and I've found my 2i just runs out a little too much for me on the firm fairways we're getting now and doesn't stop quite as well as I'd like. I'm hoping the 5 wood gives me a little bit more predictable distance off the tee, and more soft landings on greens!
🤣
7 wood for life 🔥🔥🔥
Best club in the bag ..ranging from 180 to 220 depending on how hard I hit it in all sorts of situations.
I have my hole in one with my seven wood!!
Love my 7w
Got my 7-wood today! Hope I can get 135-150 yards carry out of it.
😂😂😂 Whatever works!
How far do the 2 iron and 2 wood go?
2 iron is 250ish depending on dry fairways and 2 wood is 270ish. On arccos my average driver distance is 295yards. This is off the Tee distances.
Love my 7W! 4i is 225, 7W is 240, 3WHL is 260. Perfect fit in my bag. Off the tee, I can get about 255. I’m pretty shallow and this has taken my pull away off the box vs 4i.
What 3 you playing? My 7wood is g425max and love. Looking to replace my 3wood next
@@Lil-monkeyo 3W in 16 degree Qi10 max. Guess it’s not technically HL, but preferred the larger sole for fairway shots into long par 5s or dog legs.
Someone who doesn’t let their ego get in the way of their game, great club.
Great video, the only problem is there's not a lot of facilities out there that can bend bonded hosels flat for the average golfer....
My 5 hybrid also does all this but shorter shaft and more like an iron swing
I went to 7w and never looked back. So much use compared to a 3 iron. Always struggled with a rescue as there so upright
Rod Pampling uses one.
I want to try one currently using a 4 hybrid and it works pretty well but would love to see the difference
The 7 is my next buy but i went to order it and it said we couldnt customize it snd it was all left hadned! Wonder who long it will be before they release the new stuff?
I want to get fitted for a 7 wood!
7W is the original hybrid. Especially back when club heads were smaller. The Callaway Big Bertha 7 Heavenwood proves that
Yea I tend to agree but with 5 woods getting stronger the 7W has been born again
@trottiegolf very true! Cool to get a reply from you!!

What's going on with the new clobber Trottie? Feeling it! Also, 7 wood. just easier to hit isn't it!
it's this button down number I have in the cupboard and I was just mentally there the day I filmed this.

I enjoy a button down to golf in and I really enjoy a cardigan - Just an old skool feel and about as close I will ever get to Hogan type vibes......albeit he wouldn't have worn that shirt 🤣
How are you liking the QI35 driver?
I play a 7 wood fits nicely between my 5 wood and my 5 iron. Never liked the hybred
"You get it" - that's all I needed to hear 🤣
@trottiegolf In the video, you mention very specific specs on setting up the 7 Wood for success. If one of us would get fit for a 7 wood, should we bring up some of the specs you talked about?
Yes
How long till we can custom build a 7 wood on the site? I went to buy one and cant customize it like i need to
Hi Trottie, what's the setup you have on this 7wood?
Trying to figure out the length & lie angle and see how to configure mine.
Thanks!
All mentioned in the vid somewhere and maybe in the comments already. Something like this:
41.50" EOG
2" Tip
Proto 80G X Flex KBS
D3.5
57*
20*
@@trottiegolf thanks for replying and the great content!
Wish you would mention loft degrees
around 20* on mine
I can hit my 4 and 5 iron but I don't have the clubhead speed to get the ball high enough in the air for the ball to stop on the green, I use the 7 wood in place of my 4 iron and a 9 wood in place of my 5 iron. Both have the desired ball flight I need for them to hit softly on the green and stick. I'm a 7hc player and even though my bag looks funny carrying so many woods. D, 3, 5, 7 and 9, i don't really care because my scores have improved and really, that's all that matters.

Not sure if this link will work but I saved this the other day from the Champions Tour account.
I’m so glad I can shoot in the mid 70’s without being a slave to the numbers, which takes all the fun out of golf. Great video as always.
i’m suppose to be having a qi10 7w coming my way from carlsbad as it’s replacing one of my clubs through warranty. but it’s been a couple of weeks now and hasn’t shipped. 😢
I just bought this 2 weeks ago
Versatilty is exactly why i carry this club snd have for a long time. It's everything a rescue club claims to be
7 wood is the God club. Absolute cheat code
I have a question to ask. I currently have a 7W, but it is an old ADAMS club. I forgot I had purchased it several years ago and recently discovered it and started playing it again this year. It has no tech, adjustability, etc. like the TM or PING models. Should I consider upgrading to a more modern model. I use a 3H on windy and cold days & the 7W when the weather is great,
please advise, TY
Retro build at kbsgolfx.com/
Get a heavy X though cause 121 is FAST
I’ve got one of these and a 3 hybrid with loft sleeve turned up all the way that I’m trying to decide which one is more beneficial because they both go roughly the same distance. How much of a gap do you want between your longest iron and your next wood/hybrid?
All course dependent. Chances are both of these clubs are options for you so you need to base it on what the course demands on any given day.
@@trottiegolf that’s fair, appreciate your time to respond. Might have to go back to 3w, 7w, 4i and take the hybrid out. 7 wood just lands so soft it’s hard to compete with
Isn't this the same idea as the old perfect club? Wood with loft and iron length shaft?
How do you order it like this? Can you tip it from TM?
I believe you can specify tipping requirements
What is the shaft length you have in this 7 wood?
I have a ping g410 hybrid and I can hit it ok. However I am seriously considering replacing my 4 hybrid with a 7 wood. Any thoughts and FYI I am a high handicapper if that matters any
More spin. I think they're more forgiving and for me personally, less left bias
@ thanks for the advice
Golf courses now are having more frequent approach or par 3 holes that require a 230 yard shot into the green. 7 wood helps me make that shot
Got to look at the dispersion of the driver V the 3 wood first and then that'll help you with the set make up choices as it could change everything
Lol, I saw a video the other day of Freddy Couples playing Pebble Beach. He said: I am not as strong as I used to be sooo.....he has like 6 different woods in his bag and he said his longest iron is a 7 iron! Say it ain't so Freddy! Lol...

Trotty did you say you have this 2 inch shorter than standard for 7 wood ? (Or it's standard length but ripped 2 inch)
Tipped 2"
If you've watched the channel for a while I'm very cautious throwing around the term "standard length"
This one is:
41.50" End of Grip (EOG) ,
D3 swing weight,
Tip 2"
57* lie
New Proto part 80G X flex KBS
20* loft actual
hey trottie say someone needs stronger lofted irons, and the longest one is either the same or even stronger than the typical 18° 5W
how do you go about this? is this fine or should they also go stronger lofted woods?
I wouldn't strengthen the woods because the faces will be quicker.
You only strengthen them if you have too much spin
I replaced the 3-5 wood with a 7 a couple years ago. Id say for ammeters it's a smart move. The risk of topping and thinning 3 and 5 woods just isn't worth it.
