hello sir, I could need some help to upgrade the looking of my car and also a tune. My cars' a 2019 Hondy Civic 1.5L Vtec Automatic. Thanks for helping me :)
Thanks for using my car as the thumbnail!!! Lol Side note as for the 10th gen Si, it’s good for what it is. A solid daily, good mpg, looks good and fun with some mods.
Switch to the highest octane you can purchase, these cars are prone to LSPI, and the weak head bolts will cause head gasket issues. Also using a quality name brand synthetic oil and changing it regularly helps. Turbo engines should have 5,000 mile OCI's, a lot of the 1.5t engines with head gasket issues did extended oil changes, typically the engines are full of varnish. Depleted oil additives, + fuel dilution, + low octane fuel = blown gaskets at ~70-90k miles.
Not an SI or type R guy, got a Sport Touring I’ve been building but it’s nice to see our platform be showcased. The 1st 10th gen I saw I didn’t have my license or a car but I made it my goal to own one. On my 2nd one and by FAR my favorite car I’ve ever had is this one
I was looking into buying just the sport edition. Was considering the touring and I’d like to see what some more experienced people would have to say about potentially modding it and if it’s a decent base car to mod
I got one of those 2018 HFP Si and the one thing I don't like about these cars are the really wide wheel arches so if you lower it the tires look awkward and extra small
Thank you for the shout out and clip appreciate it ! Great video and yes love my 10th gen Type R FK8 with passion MHI stage 2 turbo build is almost ready to commence. Thank you to everyone who has supported this project so far. Much love and blessings to you all. 🙏🙏
Bro did all these things on my Civic Si, wheels and suspension first, then intake, intercooler, exhaust with a stage 1 tune. Loved the car as it was, then added body parts and a duckbill. One more thing I recommend for any tuned 1.5l is upgraded head studs and head gasket before 100k. Mines in the shop right now for that reason. Depending on how you drive obviously. Or just be ready as you said when reliability tanks. May happen sooner than you hope.
I’d say it applies to 11th gens as well. Most important mods are intercooler, clutch, and an ARP head stud kit. Seems the 11th gens can net a couple more hp than 10th gens (Si models) mod for mod, due to whatever updates, the twin scroll, along with the nice addition of rev-match. Do your head studs & clutch, you’re golden for FBO. I’m FBO and W1 turbo, clutch didn’t slip until I got on flex fuel (E35). Intercooler & Downpipe are your best friends for efficiency & power. Stock turbo on 93 will get you into the 280-295hp range, ~310 on flex fuel. Upgraded turbo will throw you into low 290-305hp range on 93 and around 320hp+ on e-blend
Picked up my Fc1 Si a couple weeks ago. Love the thing to death. An absolute please to drive. Very glad you dropped this video Alex. Looking forward to the future of martini works!!
I looked all over for my si. Was gonna get the coupe then i remembered im 40 so i got the sedan instead. A trip to Cincinnati and i was the owner of a brand new black on black si.About a week in...got a k tuner and the stage 1 plus tsp tune plus prl cold air intake 70k miles in stock clutch started to slip now i have the rv6 retrofit type r clutch. I get compliments on my car and i try to keep it nice
wtf why am I hearing LinusTechTips enthusiasticly talk to me about cars dude are you and linus brothers?! haha jokes aside great video! nice edits, great info
Let me sum it up from personal experience Ktuner with TSP tune first mod Cobra CAI second mod PRL intercooler third you can do intake tubes also at this point. Lower springs or coilovers Done
We’ll at least ur car didn’t get ran off the highway by a 18 wheeler and got left behind(hit and run) (it was a stick car) and it completely broke everything 🤣🥲😭 i haven’t even been motivated to work think ima just start looting atp
I highly recommend getting a post face lift civic if going with a si as the transmission feels much better then the slow gearbox inside the pre face lifts
got a honda civic with subs 2016 lx but its so slow you think a tune would be worth it and a cold air intake? i got a modified aftermarket exhaust currently
Naw naw naw bruh this car doesnt need any intake mods. The stock intake is incredible, as is the stock turbo. What this car wants is fuel. And then you gotta dial in the fwd with motor mounts. The stock wheels are hella heavy. The coupe is definitely the way to go. The tune is the key tho fr.
I Would Also Recommend People Pick Up a Snow Kit (Methanol Injection) to Keep the Intake Temps Down on These. I’ve Noticed From Builders on UA-cam That These Often Aren’t Tuned Right and Are Not Built Right Either. A Snow Kit Will Keep This Reliable, Even With Bolt Ons!
In my younger days I was heavy on the mods..now that I'm an old man just some dark tints, aftermarket headlights with led bulbs and I'm good..I would admit I do like to see a Honda civic with mods tho esp the 10 gen
ive had an intercooler, exhaust, intake, and a tune for awhile but i have been scared to install my downpipe because im scared of breaking the turbo bolts.
If you're modifying it, it's hard to claim that it'll still last 200k miles lol. Head bolts need to be replaced with a tune so you don't blow your motor with coolant, E85 mods will destroy the light oil in the car with water, and the clutch definitely won't last even with bolt-ons and a straight tune so that needs to be upgraded. And after all those mods and spirited driving, hard to say you'll still get good mpg.
Besides the e85, the car can def last 200k miles. I’m @ 90k with bolt ons + tune and have had no problem, while getting 39.8 mpg throughout its lifespan. I baby the car @ all times besides canyons and straightaways. All depends on the driver
Even if you replace the bolts with studs you'll still have issues. The correct fix is to drill and tap the holes for the head bolts, install helicoils and use thicker head bolts. M8 bolts just don't have the tensile strength. Even the old K series engines used M12 bolts. The stock K series bolts were good for up to ~600hp, these M8 bolts are barely adequate for stock power levels. Helicoils, if installed properly will be even stronger than the original threads, because the inserts are steel, and the OG threads are aluminum.
@@rolandotillit2867 LSPI only occurs when you’re lugging the engine? For example giving 13 psi throttle in 6th gear at like 30 mph. I’ve never heard of this just occurring from normal driving
@@ShahHasArrived It happens whenever the engine is at full load at low RPM, the issue is, when you're in 6th at low rpm, the engine is going to stay in that range for much longer than it would in a lower gear. In 1st or 2nd you're going to sweep through the RPM rather quickly so the engine doesn't stay in the danger zone for long. In 6th you could be in danger zone for several seconds at a time. The more time you spend in the danger zone, the more danger is going to happen.
I have a 10th gen civic si....I know how slow the car is, can't justify sinking 10k on it and barely break 400hp. Not to mention it tanks reliability. Think I'll save the money for something faster, maybe a few years old porsche once the civic is paid off.
I feel ya. A 2004 60k 911 is selling for 25k near me… the same price as my 2019 civic. Definitely not putting 10k into it. Tune, cooling. Maybe springs. 2k?
Ofc, focus on what you want the car to do and then start with tint, lower it, some wheels, intake, stage 1 tune and you’ll already see a huge difference and you can keep going from there. It doesn’t have to be crazy fast but it’ll feel alot better
And what about giving a tune on the og comp? fe to 225-230 hp on the si? is it safe ? I am planning to add a short ram and the end muffler change for one to give it a better flow and sound. I want My car to last long like the 8th gen :)
Hello. I own a 10th gen civic sport sedan ('19) with 6 speed manual transmission. Been wanting to make some mods but don't know where to start.
