GAME CHANGER IS RIGHT. AMAZING! I've been trying to find a simple way to create a screen print for a mortgage broker customer of mine who uses the same design for each client. So much quicker! The reduced prep, clean up, touch up.... The list goes on! THANK YOU!
I’ve been screenprinting here and there for a couple years. If I can give you a tip, cut the stencil in reverse, and then your screen will lay flat and you do not need that box under it.
This is an awesome tutorial & such a game changer for you! You do make everything look so easy! I have to remind myself that you are very talented & experienced & that it may take me awhile to get the same results! Thanks so much for the video!
I’ve done screen printing on shirts before but not on my wood signs. Thanks for the idea ❤️ I also bought my screen and didn’t think about making my own 😂 where you had the lines in your ink when you squeeged is where I learned I had issues when doing shirts like this. The lines in the ink carried into my design.
Great video, never would have thought to do this. Just got a cricut about a month ago and it’s quickly becoming the best money maker of any tool in my woodshop! Your videos have been wicked helpful.
Awesome Sallie!!! Love it when you bring these ideas to us after doing a good research. Your videos are simple and you explain so well! I am willing to try it because I have so much confidence in you. Thank you!! Definitely want to try this one!!🤗🤗
I am new to your channel and also new to the world of Cricut. I am beyond excited to start crafting and experimenting... I sat up last night and watched a countless # of your videos!! Thank you for sharing things so willingly and helping us all out!! I have quite a way to go before I begin to tap into the world of my own business, but with your tutorials, and my time, patience and practice, I will get there!!
This worked really well! I’ve also seen many screen printers mirror their images and apply them on the back of the screen (same side you did) and then spread the ink on the inside, with the vinyl on the outside.
Oh my! My husband so tried to get me into this a year ago.. We were @ Hobby Lobby and he was literally ready to but the supplies .. I was like nope .. looks too messy.. and we've actually been watching vids over the past couple weeks .. again I was like nope.. We watched one today and I was like yep worth a try lol.. Thanks for sharing.. I'll be checking into it now lol
So glad i just found your channel as ive just started crafting! Cricut Vinyl is soo expensive here in Australia and this will save soo much money being able to reuse signs... thankyou for showing this technique🙂
I used to work in a screen printing shop, using Plastisol ink. I printed a logo onto plywood for corn hole boards. It took 4 trips through the dryer to cure the ink.
Nice video, quick question. Can you apply the ink on the left and smooth right? I'm just wondering if it would be less waste of the ink. I've never done one, but I think I've talked my hubby into getting some wood tools. I've showed him all of your projects involving wood. Great job and thank you for the tutorial.
If you flip your screen over this will help control your ink and keeping it in the frame. Also try 1/8" - 1/4" off contact of the screen to the substrate.
Sallie, you are such an inspiration. I enjoy watching what you create. Your videos are detailed and provide all the necessary resources for your viewers to be successful. I am going to try this method for sure. I just have one question for you, is there a certain size you use for the screen print mesh? For example 180M/72T
You want to use permanent vinyl because it's more likely to stick to the screen. Other types of vinyl that don't have a strong adhesive may lift around the design causing the ink to leak and ruin your project. In fact having it actually stick to your screen can be difficult because it's so porous, that's why it's best to use a permanent vinyl. Once you're done with your design, the permanent vinyl removes cleanly and easily from the screen material.
Could you do a video showing the entire process of making screen prints for shirts? If not, I totally understand! I just love watching you because you are so extremely helpful!
I absolutely love these. Just made my list of supplies to order. Great idea again Sallie, thank you! Also, did you apply any type of finishing coat after fully drying or did you leave them as they were???
This is so awesome! How long does the ink take to dry? Also when you are doing multiples and place the screen onto the next sign, does any ink from the previous sign transfer to the new sign when you’re lining it up? I would love to try this on my porch learners it would be a big stencil but it would save me so much vinyl! It really didn’t look like you had any bleeds even!
Mine were fully dry after a couple hours when I checked! Nope no bleeding at all or transferring! The only issue I had was spots where ink was too light so I had to touch up. This was due to not enough pressure I think.
@@SimplySallie try doing a flood coat first so scrape the ink down before you place the screen on your wood sign then do another scrape usually that helps with shirts and paper prints and missing spots
Hi Sallie, this is awesome!!! Thanks for sharing 🥰 Just wondering with the red signs, did you paint these red yourself first and then screen print the words?
Great Video😊 I know it's been a year since you made this & I tried looking up the 2 designs on font bundles but I couldn't find any... did you happen to make these because I would love to have those to make some signs for Christmas?
Superb videos! I just happened upon you so am really excited! Can you tell me what fonts you used for these signs? Also, I noticed you did not mirror your image (I think...lol). I see others mirror unless I am confused. Thanks for what you do! I hope to make the process look seamless like you do!:)
That worked so well. Love it. Each time I’ve tried screen printing on towels, they haven’t turned out. I wasted so many towels so now I’m scared to try it on my signs. 😟
Hi Sallie - I’m having trouble with bleeding. Seems like the paint is getting under the screen when it shouldn’t. I know traditional screen printing is “off contact” but am I right thinking you just go directly into the wood? Any other tips to avoid blur/bleeding?
I’d have thought that by scraping the squeegee across the vinyl it would make the vinyl curl or lift ? Have you had any problems like that ? I’ve seen vinyl cut in reverse and stuck on the frame and then using the inside of the frame to ink and squeegee which presses the vinyl onto the medium preventing lifting. Your thoughts ? 👍
That’s how I learned screen printing. Not with vinyl, we either hand cut stencils or used a photo-mechanical process. The stencil was mirrored and placed on the outside of the screen. Ink was squeegeed over the mesh on the inside of the frame.
Hello Sally, thanks for the video! I have a question. Why some people say to mirror your image? I don't think you did it and i was curious about it. Thanks
There is a lady on youtube pigskins and pigtails who does it and shows videos i have watched in the past. But i bought some color books she sells that shows you how to mix certain colors to get a different color.
I have been wanting to try this! Do you have to heat press to make it permanent, or is that just the fabric ink? And have you ever tried it with two colors?
So from what I've researched, since this is the acrylic ink it does not need to be heat set. My plan is to allow to cure and then apply polycrylic. I will update on that! Nope I have not tried more than one color per sign yet!
Hello, I bought everything you suggested and made my screens. When I printed them some of the ink looked like there were bubbles in my ink on my wood. Prior to screen printing I sanded all the wood with fine grade sandpaper and painted with white paint and sanded again lightly. I made sur I removed all the dust from the wood before printing. I don't understand why there are bubbles. I tried a smaller mesh the second time but the same results. I'm so frustrated and disappointed. HELP!
informative video but I am not clear on how you make your transfer for the screen, can you tell us more about that? You transfer the design to the screen but how did you get the design on to the transfer vinyl? and how did you get the design cut out?
Hi Sallie, I screen print shirts all the time for fun and I have to ‘set’ the paint with heat so it doesn’t wash out. Is there anything you have to do after applying to wood to set it? I M worried if I try and seal it, it would just be a mess, so thinking set it first then seal, but don’t know how that works or if that’s even a thing!?
So this is formulated as acrylic, so no need for heat set! My plan is to let it cure for a couple days and then seal with polycrylic! I'll update on that.

I scrape the unused ink that's still on the screen with a knife and add it back into the ink jar so I don't waste it! Then rinse it off...

Just wondering why you did not use Oramask 813 vinyl??
You want to use permanent vinyl because it's more likely to stick to the screen. If you screen print onto wood drink coasters how do you seal them??
Hi Sallie I have an question. Why don’t use the paint do you used for your regular work wood
You have to use a special screen print ink for the screens since it has the better consistency for it!

I am not sure about that. I am pretty sure screen printing ink is the one you'd need since it's the right consistency for the mesh.
Where did u get the stand for the screen print
Where do you get the vinyl stencils and how do you make your own?
