I have so many orders right now and was beyond overwhelmed...started looking into screen printing and came across this video...in the process of trying this...I’ll come back for an update!!!
Thanks a ton for this video. I just went through the whole process and did my first ever print, and I'm super happy with it. Everything you said was explained really well and was hella easy to follow, thank you!
Fantastic tutorial! Have been heatpressing htv onto my shirts for the past year so will definitely be experimenting with this technique. Thanks so much!
If you are using water base ink.you can add a bit of water every 2 or 3 shirts with your method to the ink container just a sprinkle (and use the spoon to mixed well)then keep applying it to the screen.that way keeps your ink from drying and you'll noticed every time the refreshed ink with the water will clear the ink left over in your screen as well! Also you can let the print dried on the sun before iron it.for a better outcome!
I have watched a few different videos on how to do screen printing with a vinyl design so I can wrap my head around the whole process before I even begin sand your video was the most informative ! Thank you for taking the time to do this!
So glad you show from the beginning to the end how to set up layout and placement of design to make these screen print multiple shirts. You are the Best! Thank you 10/2022
Great video, thank you. Screen printing is by far the best feeling product, but I think its only really suited to runs of 10 or more to justify the setup time. HTV is actually pretty good for smaller designs or ones with more "whitespace" - its the large, flat designs that feel the worst.
I agree completely!! I talk about this in my HTV vs screen printing tutorial too. I completely agree with the larger designs as well. I don’t mind HTV but I don’t love the feeling of a giant cut of HTV on my shirt.
This was very useful! Thank you for making these. For the line that was on the shirt, I see in comments you blotted with water and soap. I've tried this and cant get the mistakes to come up. Could you maybe do a video on this? Would be helpful to see your technique.
I'm getting ready to screen print a ton of boxes. For my needs that line would be totally unacceptable. That is why I watch these videos. When I see 1 mistake, I see replication numerous times.
This is the video i needed!! No one explained the whole process like you did, i was so confused about the cricut process and screen printing afterwords. Thank you so much!! Gonna get started soon 😌😌
Hey great video! I did photo emulsion screen printing for awhile...took days to complete a project and super expensive. Finally took the plunge and got a Cricut and could not be happier! Thanks for the info!
Hi Alex, thank you so much, I use vinyl and sublimation normally and never tried my screen printing materials. I love the circle tip and application, this will help with placing any transfer. I obsess over centering and look forward to using this technique to center my shirts.
i know im late but thank you so much i was watching videos where they was turning off lights and spraying the screen and placing some chemical on it before they even got started oh and when i woke up 30 minutes later they still havent got to the ink im serious. So when i ran across your tutorial i was very pleased thank you thank you for straight to the point video..Have a Happy New Year!
This is water based ink, so it's different from plastisol ink, which is what sounds like you were using before. I'm so glad you like this process better! Happy new year to you as well!
How did you get the one spot off without it ruining the other part of your shirt? Also, where did you get your transfer tape? Thanks for the helpful video!!
Hello. Nice job explaining it all. To help with not leaving a line from too much paint in the design can u squeegee from side to side as well; especially if the design is the same size or smaller than the squeegee. Thank you.
Very good!!! Thank you! Your making a booboo here and there helps us! And your calmness also helps us! I just cannot tell you how thrilled I am to be a member of the 651VINYL community! My BFF HTV'er is waiting for her HTV that I ordered for her to try! SHe already loves her pin pen that I gave her! Okay then, take care. Very best to all! Big hugs and love. Blessings and Re JOuir -Darlene
I am so excited that you joined the family! The little boo boo is easy to fix ☺️ as soon as you see a mistake, you can wash the area with soap and water and a washcloth to remove it. It’s happened to me before and it comes out no problem! You just don’t want to let it dry.
TY so much for your very informative videos. I'm taking my business to the next step because your video's were so easy to understand. I'm starting small with this and hopefully it will grow. Thanks again. :)
Hi, would love to try this out. Some questions: 1. When your heat pressing the shirts, do you cover the shirt with like parchment paper before putting the heat press on the shirt? 2. What are the care instructions for a screen printed shirt? How long do they last?
You don't need to cover with parchment paper to press if the ink is dry. There aren't any specific care instructions that I'm aware of. The ink does better if you hang them to dry, but it's not required.
It’s water based ink you’re supposed to flood the screen after you print on the shirt and then you can print a ton for shirt and your screen won’t get clogged
Wow thank you this is extremely helpful! I have an order of 12 shirts of the same design (2 color design) so I am hoping to try screen printing for the first time. If I make a screen of the 1st color, can I reuse it 12 times right in a row? Then clean it off, load the 2nd color screen and do the same? Your videos are great- thanks!
I’m so glad it was helpful! In theory, yes, you could do 12. Since it’s your first try, you may find that the ink starts to dry up a little bit before you can finish it. You may want to have a spray bottle with water handy to lightly spritz the screen in case it feels like it’s getting dry. But otherwise yes, the process you described is correct! Just let the first layer dry a bit before doing any more.
i use a circle with cross hairs. Thats what we used to print carpet. 1 in each corner, so I use 2 in opposite corners. great idea using just 651 perm vynil. the stencil vinyl is expensive
I’m really excited to give this a try!! Do you put anything in between the two layers of the shirt? Do I need to worry about the ink bleeding to the other side? Thanks so much! Love watching your videos!
Love your videos, they are super helpful and easy to follow! Can you advise if you can keep the screen set up with the vinyl for future use ( rather than take the vinyl off after screening & then re-cutting new vinyl). Thanks!
You could use htv on the screen to make it more permanent and be able to keep the design on after washing it? If so, have you tried it? How would you heat press on the screen?
This tutorial was wonderful! I wanted to ask what is the best way to let shirts dry? Do you have to keep them down on a flat surface or can you pick them up and hang them on a clothes line or something of the sort? Thank you for sharing your knowledge and making this new adventure a little less scary :)
Love this tutorial! I have a question - let's say you didn't work quick enough but still need to utilize the same vinyl stencil- do I just Wash it with the vinyl on and begin again?
I like this because sometimes with the htv on soft cotton makes the shirt look weird. Where do I get the screen box and can I buy the paint at Walmart?
You can get everything on Amazon! I'm not sure if Walmart sells screen printing products or not. You can find everything I use in my Amazon store! www.amazon.com/shop/diyalex
how did you wash the line off- ur video didn't show. I really enjoy ur videos. I am SO NEW to this Cricut world. Do you have any of these with multiple paint colors? Can you tag me in one, please?
Welcome! I used soap and water on a wash cloth to remove the line. Here is my tutorial on using multiple colors: ua-cam.com/video/VwhgZgk-Ovc/v-deo.html&lc=UgzWRsLjG_gi4gDbXkF4AaABAg
Water based ink dries really fast, so many sure you store it in an airtight jar that it comes in, and make sure you remove the vinyl and wash the screen off when you're done printing with each project.
You're welcome! I'm not aware of a material type that doesn't work with screen printing ink! I stick to cotton, polyester, and cotton/poly blends because that's what I'm used to wearing but I'm sure it works outside of those materials!
Are you using permanent or removable vinyl here? Is there a way to keep a stencil to use again on a later day or do you just have to cut the design again in new vinyl? Same for after you find your screen clogged (after using it for several shirts)--do you have to recut or can you wash the screen off without ruining the stencil? Thanks so much!
I'm using permanent, but removable would work too. No, using the stencil again would allow the ink to dry on the screen and potentially clog the pores on your screen. It's easier to just wash your screen, re-cut, and reapply when you need it. You can make a permanent stencil using HTV, but I don't think that's usually necessary.
Great video. Quick question. Will the ink bleed through the shirt & do you need to put something inside the shirt to stop the ink coming through? Thanks.
@DIY Alex Hi love the video, so i noticed the line that the screen left behind and you said you would just wash that part off, how were you able to wash it without ruining the rest of the shirt? Thanks a bunch.
Do you need to place anything such as butcher paper or cardboard in your shirt before you put the ink on? Thank you so much for your videos. Very helpful to me.
Great video!! Because each shirt size usually has a different size logo do you have to make a new one for each different size of shirt?? Or if it’s a large and XL is it close enough that you just use the same one?
Thank you Alex, great video! I'm about to screen print 15 shirts, and I was looking for advice on letting them dry. Do I keep them laid down flat on a table, or can I hang them?
Is there a trick to preparing your screen prior to adding the vinyl and ink. I use Speedball ink as well and wanted to make a couple of shirts. They were both ready and I had a helper so I feel like I was pretty quick. The ink seemed to dry in the mesh and the second transfer was not to good. Any advice would be appreciated.
Awesome video! One question, if you have a design on both sides do you print and heat the first side then print the other side and heat set or is it possible to heat set one side with press and tshirt form inside then set the opposite side?
Hi! When doing multiple, as the screen starts to clog....i assume you need to remove the vinyl and clean the screen. Recut a new stencil? Or do you reuse your original vinyl stencil that you previously removed? TIA! 😊 These screen print tutorials are amazing and a real game changer for me. 👏🏻
I'm so glad you're enjoying them Kristina! Yes, when you clean the screen off you'll want to recut a new stencil and reapply it to the screen because you'll likely lose small pieces of your design while cleaning it. You can also spritz the screen with water periodically to help it from drying out so fast.
Question? How did you go about cleaning up that oopsy line ?? Can you make a video on the cleaning up that line and while we are on the cleaning up question what’s the best way to clean everything else up ? Please and thank you 😊
Hey there! So I’ve tried a few times and each time my first one comes out great but with the subsequent the lines are no longer crisp and I lose some of small pieces of vinyl in the letters. Any tips?
Are you applying the vinyl to the back of the screen? Usually that prevents a lot of the pieces from moving. Also make sure you’re using the same amount of pressure from screen to screen. That will help!
I have so many orders right now and was beyond overwhelmed...started looking into screen printing and came across this video...in the process of trying this...I’ll come back for an update!!!
Yes please do! I'd love to know how it's going for you!

Wow this video has really helped me thank you. I love that you said be generous with the paint bc you can put it back
You're welcome! Yes that's the wonderful thing about screen printing!
You are GENIUS!!! The tshirt trick with the transfer tape was awesome!! Great video, beautiful shirts, and easy to follow. Thank you so much!!! 🥰
Aw thank you! I have had lots of practice and sticking transfer tape to the shirt is the thing I've found that works best. :)
Hello. I just found you and I’m glad I did. I was wondering how you removed the extra line that was an error on the shirt
I used a wash cloth with dish soap and water.
The dot is an excellent idea. Thanks!
You're welcome!
How did you get the one spot off without it ruining the other part of your shirt? Also, where did you get your transfer tape? Thanks for the helpful video!!
I used a wet wash cloth with soap, but I worked on it right away! I didn’t allow the ink to dry.
did you by any chance do a video on how to remove the lines or excess ink? I love your tutorials!
I recorded one recently and I will post it soon! I t used a wash cloth with soap and water and wiped the ink off before it was dry. Thank you!

I don’t have issues so I don’t put anything inside the shirt.
This was so informative Alex, thank you! Do you mid sharing how you washed off the ink line smudge?
I just used a wash cloth with soap and water while the ink was still wet. I blotted it like it was a regular stain on the shirt and it came right up!
@@DIYAlex wow okay. Thank you Alex!
Iv been watching so many videos and this one was the most knowledgeable. Thanks.how do u wash off the extra paint?( the line) thank
I’m so glad! I just washed it off with a wash cloth and soapy water before the ink dried.
How did you get rid of the stray line? Great video!
Just soap and water on a wash cloth immediately after it happened while the ink was still wet! ☺️
Hi very nice video. Quick question. What if you had to do another coat like when doing white ink on dark shirts? TIA
You would need to lay down registration marks to do a second coat
@@DIYAlex Thanks. I’ll give a try. Truly appreciate it.
This is the best video on this topic, thank you for your time!
Aw thank you! You're welcome!
Jennifer maker has a ready made blank stencil template with the dot. All you have to do is add your design then slice it out
I’m really excited to give this a try!! Do you put anything in between the two layers of the shirt? Do I need to worry about the ink bleeding to the other side? Thanks so much! Love watching your videos!
I don’t put anything there but you can put parchment paper there if you want,
This video has helped me out so much! I do have a question, if I do a print roughly 10 inches, how many shirts can I get out of one container of ink?
It depends on your design and the size of the jar of ink. But it's a lot! It goes far.
Love your videos, they are super helpful and easy to follow! Can you advise if you can keep the screen set up with the vinyl for future use ( rather than take the vinyl off after screening & then re-cutting new vinyl). Thanks!
You will need to apply heat transfer vinyl to be able to keep the vinyl on the screen after washing it.
How do you put htv on the screen? And if you have multiple shirts to do, is htv better?
So can you use a circut easy press with screen printing I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews on this topic!
You sure can! Just set it to 320 degrees for 40 seconds and that will do it.
You can also use the blue tape instead of buying dots
You can, but the dots help you line it up exactly. If you use an unmeasured piece of tape it won’t help get your placement very exact.
You could use htv on the screen to make it more permanent and be able to keep the design on after washing it?
If so, have you tried it? How would you heat press on the screen?
I have heard you can do that but I haven’t tried it myself!
This tutorial was wonderful! I wanted to ask what is the best way to let shirts dry? Do you have to keep them down on a flat surface or can you pick them up and hang them on a clothes line or something of the sort? Thank you for sharing your knowledge and making this new adventure a little less scary :)
I don’t know about leaving it to dry but i have heard her using a heat gun to speed up the drying process.
Yes, you can hang them on a hanger. But Precious is correct, I also use a heat gun to help speed up the process too!
I tried your recommendation and it works well. It's just my ink that keeps clogging and drying so quick I can only do about 6
You'll get faster as you practice! :)
Love this tutorial! I have a question - let's say you didn't work quick enough but still need to utilize the same vinyl stencil- do I just
Wash it with the vinyl on and begin again?
You could, or spritz the ink with water.
Tfs. Shirts are very nice
Thank you! I love how they turned out!
Hey Alex! Thank you for this very informative video- quick question, what’s the alternative if we don’t have a heat press? Can I use a normal iron?
Yes! Just make sure the areas of the design get consistent heat for about 30 seconds

You did an awesome job! Did you just wipe the excess paint off? How did you clean the pain off of the shirt. Thanks so much for your video!
You're welcome! Yes, while the ink is still wet I use a washcloth and soap and water to get the ink out before it dries.
super helpful, thank you!
big help!! thank you !!
Can you use a hair dryer to help it dry if you can’t let it sit overnight?
You can try a hair dryer, but I think a heat gun would be more effective. I got my heat gun from Harbor Freight for $15 and it's super handy to have.
Awesome video again. How do you store the ink? It seems to be getting thick when I used it the second time, maybe a couple days later.
\
Water based ink dries really fast, so many sure you store it in an airtight jar that it comes in, and make sure you remove the vinyl and wash the screen off when you're done printing with each project.
Thank you for sharing!! Does it matter what fabric type you use? Ex. Cotton only, poly blend etc?
You're welcome! I'm not aware of a material type that doesn't work with screen printing ink! I stick to cotton, polyester, and cotton/poly blends because that's what I'm used to wearing but I'm sure it works outside of those materials!
Love your channel you’ve helped so much!!
I'm so glad! I'm so glad you're here! ❤
Can you iron instead of heat press?
Yes you sure can! Just use what you have ☺️
Great video. Quick question. Will the ink bleed through the shirt & do you need to put something inside the shirt to stop the ink coming through? Thanks.
I have never had an issue, but you can put parchment paper between the layers of the shirt if you want to.
Thank you so much Alex. This was an AWESOME video!

Do you have a link to the heat press you're using in this video?
Yep! Here it is www.651vinyl.com/starcraft-heat-press-15x15-clam-shell-mint.html
Hi, sorry if you answered this already but do you put anything between the shirt?
I personally don't, but lots of folks use parchment paper in the shirt if you're concerned about bleeding.
DIY Alex okay thank you I am new at this and just wanted to make sure
Hi Alex ! Do you prep your screen in any way ? What are the items you need to start screen printing
You can find the basics about screen printing here: ua-cam.com/video/Mrv7PU1lU04/v-deo.html
Hi Alex, Where do you buy your Blank T Shirts from??
jiffyshirts.com! By far my favorite!
Hi, starting to get into this. Question: could you, in theory, use a clear stencil so that way you’re not wasting vinyl?
No, you have to use a screen in order for it to be screen printing. Stenciling on a shirt isn't the same, but it works if you prefer that.
Would you use the same size for different size shirts? For example a Small and a Large shirt?
I do for the most part. 10 inches usually works for me for adult S- XL. After that I start making it larger. ☺️
What size should your design be if your using a 10x14 screen? Would you use 10x14 screen for sm-xl?
I need to do a order for multiple shirts, how do you do the drying process? Can I hang them up or will that make the ink run?
Yes, if your ink isn’t too thick you can hang it up while drying!
Amazing video! What kind of heat press do you have?

@@DIYAlex Thank you!

You’re welcome! ☺️
Great video!! Because each shirt size usually has a different size logo do you have to make a new one for each different size of shirt?? Or if it’s a large and XL is it close enough that you just use the same one?
I don't resize my logos dramatically if the sizing is close. I would keep it simple so you don't have to make a ton of screens :).
Another question. Do u know why it matters on the size screen to use? Smaller holed or larger holed screen.
All I have ever used is the 110 monofilament screen so I am honestly not sure!
Thank you Alex, great video! I'm about to screen print 15 shirts, and I was looking for advice on letting them dry. Do I keep them laid down flat on a table, or can I hang them?
It doesn't matter. Whatever is most convenient for you!
Hi! Great video. You didn’t talk about putting anything inside the shirt so the ink doesn’t bleed through to the back - do you use anything?
Thank you! I don’t use anything because I’ve never found it necessary, but parchment paper is great as a barrier if you’re concerned about it. ☺️
Perfect. wonderful video. Thank you!
You’re welcome! 😃
You can keep a spray bottle handy with just water in it to help the ink stay wet. It’s water-based so it’s fine to use a little bit of water on it!
Awesome video! One question, if you have a design on both sides do you print and heat the first side then print the other side and heat set or is it possible to heat set one side with press and tshirt form inside then set the opposite side?
Heat set both sides.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. 🥰 Did you place the vinyl shiny side down like normal or up?
You’re welcome! With vinyl you always put it on the mat pretty side up.
Wow this was amazing!! Thank you for an awesome video.
You're welcome! :)
Thanks so much!
Question? How did you go about cleaning up that oopsy line ?? Can you make a video on the cleaning up that line and while we are on the cleaning up question what’s the best way to clean everything else up ? Please and thank you 😊
I used a wash cloth, soap, and water. I will try to video it the next time it happens!
Can you do this video but multicolor screen print
Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/JJN5hoWwyWE/v-deo.html
Do you have a silhouette diy for this?
I don't have a silhouette so I don't have any tutorials for it. Sorry!
