2024 Suzuki GSX8R - First Ride Review (ROAD + TRACK)

  • Hey Everyone!
In this video, I share my experience of riding the new 2024 Suzuki GSX-8R, a middleweight sport bike with a nicely powered parallel twin engine.
I travelled to Seville, Spain, for the global launch of this bike and got to test it on the road and on the track.
Watch me as I explore the features, performance, and versatility of the GSX-8R, and find out why I think it’s a great option for riders who want a sporty, comfortable, and affordable machine.
The GSX-8R is based on the naked GSX-8S, but with a full fairing and a more aggressive look. It has a 776cc engine that produces 82 hp and 58 lb-ft of torque, and comes with a quick shifter, auto blipper, and traction control as standard. It also has a new suspension setup with Showa SFF-BP forks and a preload-adjustable Showa shock. The riding position is sporty but not too extreme, and the bike handles well in different conditions.
If you enjoyed this video, please give it a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel for more motorcycle reviews, tips, and adventures. Also, let me know in the comments what you think of the GSX-8R and if you would consider buying one.
Thanks for watching and see you in the next video!

Firstly, so I am not being a Negative Nancy, it looks like Suzuki have engineered a great parallel twin! I really do think that is objectively the best engine type for the street. However, can we all collectively agree that it's bogus for all the top manufacturers not to include electronic cruise control on all new motorcycles? Please? They're all ride-by-wire now, and it's only a bit of hardware and some lines of code in the ECU. Not all of us live where every road is like Laguna Seca. Some of us have to ride a lot of boring flat highway miles to get to the real twisties. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

I was just thinking about this. Totally agree. Especially on a somewhat of a sport touring bike too.

I wondered the same but Its on purpose so you have to buy their flagship models, Honda has acknowledged it on some interviews where they said that they want their customers to have a clear upgrade path.

Rode the 8S last year and thought it was fantastic. This bike will do to the industry what the SV650 did years ago. Both street riders and club racers will have a blast!

Would you say its too much for an inexperienced rider? I love the design and sitting on it felt great but it has a lot more HP than bikes ive ridden in the past.

    • @MalShakur
      @MalShakur 2 місяці тому

Yes. I believe it would make a better second bike after you've gained experience on a less powerful bike that doesn't have so much torque. If you insist on buying one, there are power modes to help tone down the throttle response. By no means would I consider it a beginner bike. @@ArtisDeadx

I've heard a lot of good things about this bike (powerful, good brakes, good suspension).
And despite its a newer bike it doesn't have excessive features, is realistically priced and everything is possible from short tours to the racetrack. This video from Spain has also confirmed that it is perfect in many ways!

This bike just SINGS! I love how torquey it is, and that blue is stunning. As a street focused rider looking to get their first middle-weight bike, but that doesn’t want a super aggressive riding position (or 120hp), the GSX-8R has jumped to the top of my list. 🤩
P.S. You were killing it out there and I felt elated just watching the ride on both the street & the track. 💜

Great review Kate, thanks. Gee the track looked like fun! I have an 8S and love the smooth torque and early upshifts with the quicker shifter. I like the look of the 8R and prefer the format. Definitely talking to my dealer about a test ride and a trade.
Also love the dash but keep mine on black all the time. Looks classy.
One criticism. Suzuki could have charged a wee bit more and matched the R7 with adjustable suspension for road and track.

Well as a rider of an inline twin already this seems like a great fun track bike, but Suzuki you should know better to have higher pegs and also a real concern having moulded handle bars rather then clip ons is going to be a big “No” for a track bike as will make a minor off a major expense to fix. Fantastic review Kate really enjoyed the video and glad that you got to have some great fun in the sun 🤘🫶🏻

German guy just chopped the rear down on a Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello, fitted Agostini big bore headers etc...wow, does that thing now look good? All it takes, when a bike has it's 'compliant' bits removed, to be a stunner!

So, lets Talk about Torque... and just say "Suzuki", all clear, do I need to say more?
The smooth transition of the Suzi power from the motor through the whole Rev and Gear range, onto the back wheel, is something that other brands don't do as well as Suzuki can, and if coupled with the Suzi Quick-Shift... wow, "heaven just became a place on earth!
So, having boldly said all that, I suppose I must go find a test ride on one of these beauties ASAP, despite me always tending to agree with what Kate has to report about any Suzuki, or even Triumph, that she kindly parks her butt on for our entertainment, and of course, much more important, to educate and inform all those, she selfishly left back in cold and wet England, or as in my case, in snowed up Switzerland.
Thank you UNK, we are eternally gratefull for you having to put up with all that hot Spanish sun for us, thus saveing ourselves some stress and bright red faces.

I had the chance to ride the 8s last year during a Suzuki demo event and it was a blast to ride. I currently ride a 2013 Ninja 650 that I purchased new but at a certain rpm the handlebar is extremely buzzy and after a long ride the seat isn't the best either. I also attended a Kawasaki event but didn't get the chance to ride the new Ninja 650 but did get to try the z650rs but it has the same old vibes that my old one has and not in a good way. With the Suzuki I really didn't get to try out the different riding modes but the quick shifter worked very well with both upshifting and downshifting. I don't know if it's the Dunlop tires with mine but it's not very flickable and seems to take a lot of effort for it to lean over, it came with Roadsmart 2 but I've replaced them with Roadsmart 4, I may end up choosing Michelin's next time.

Nice review. I like this bike a lot, although it's not a track bike in standard trim so not sure why Suzuki decided to partially launch it at one. However, I guess it shows it's got some good sporting potential. New bars, rear sets & some sticky tires & it'd be a whole different proposition. Although personally I wouldn't be buying this if I wanted to regularly be doing track days.

    • @gk73man51

The bars are the worst bit, and for a track bike a ten year old 600 would still be far superior in terms of power and suspension.

@@gk73man51 Agreed. If I was going to buy a track bike, it wouldn't be this. I'd get a GSXR750. However, the reason I like this is I'm considering a somewhat sporty road orientated all round middleweight. Also looking at the Daytona 660 but would ideally like the XSR900 GP, but budget is a factor.

Only saw it just now but those pegs purposely have scratch-a-scratch extenders! Guess how that problem can be cured. I however suspect also setting them back a little more would indeed be the best solution.

Great test. I have heard several reviewers state the handlebars are clip on style? Those aren't clip on style bars.

    • @UsernameKate
      @UsernameKate  3 місяці тому +1

Clip on style, like faux clip ons. Not actual, true clip ons, but also not a flat bar.

Fantastic looking bike. I'm moving to Houston in a couple of months and will need to buy a bike for daily commuting. I have already broken my brain choosing between VSTROM 800re and GSX-8R. On VSTROM's side is practicality. But 8R is so sexy. I am 6 feet tall. Can't decide. )

I have a feeling the new Daytona is going to be better at a similar price point. We'll know more when reviewers can actually ride it though.

  • @richardwarsinske7064

I agree with Kate that considering the more sport touring nature of the 8R the lower peg height makes sense for comfort and if your a track rat adjustable peg height plates are already available for not a lot of cost (TST Industries).

The bars are the killer. There is a lot of re engineering involved in putting proper clip ons on one of these.
