Looks amazing to me. For the nth time, no actual Switch owner cares about the comparison to other systems. Only how it compares to other Switch games.

@@SwitchUpYt You're a multiplatform owner. I think you know very well what I mean. No hate towards you or the channel. This isn't something I'm noticing all the time but the emphasis on it, from a consumer looking for information standpoint, makes this review kinda pointless. It doesn't tell me what I'm looking for and compels me to just watch footage instead. I understand some will still look for this kind of content, next to the trolls and haters searching for Twitter ammunition... It's just that as a single system owner, like most console gamers are, this is pointlessly negative and not informative to me. Just sharing my opinion.
Such a racer at 30 FPS is really disappointing. As comparison: The racer Fast RMX was one of the first games for Switch, and it has fluid 60 FPS and even better graphics than this game (but FAST RMX developer use their own engine).
Hell yes. Still play the ocasional Fast RMX lap to this day. More of these types of games are always welcome on my Switch.

Though I remember having no issue going from Mario Kart 8 to Crash Team Racing (which is 30).

Hi! Just a small clarification here - 4:30 - Season Pass is just pre-ordering next two DLCs with discount which are not yet done and out.
Hope that clears up some doubts.
This would really benefit from an option to tone down or remove most of the post-processing effects.. Developers should learn that less is often more on the Switch screen and that visibility really should be paramount.
FAST RMX is still the No.1 Switch future racer for me, probably always since it's nearly perfect 😇

And then there is "FAST RMX" one of the first games for Switch but with insane graphics and fluid 60 FPS framerates. But the developers of Fast RMX, Shin'en Multimedia, are known for their professionalism and they use their own optimized engine, not Unreal 4.

This is a great review. I found it VERY competent. So much so I felt the need to use block capital's. Unbiased, straight to all the points that required addressing. Basically everything I wanted to know or needed to hear before I forked out 27 quid on the Switch version. I don't own any other consoles other than my Nintendo Switch & I know that sacrifices need to be made to accommodate the hardware. What I'm trying to say is that you didn't "fanboy out" with your review. Which is often the problem I have with certain reviewers. Good work fella.

Fast RMX is still king when it comes to high quality arcade style hypersonic racing on Switch. Thanks for the Redout II performance review though. :)

That season pass is for upcoming dlc. It's not cut content. The in game seasonal mode is still unknown as nothing has been revealed about it yet.
The discord is active with devs and community managers taking in players feedback and bug reports.
Well that’s nice to know. I mean the season pass DOES instantly unlock a few things though…right? That’s my understanding of it. Obviously, it gives futures things as well but it literally does add some stuff they’ve cut to use for it. Mark

When I see how "bulky" those cars are in curves it reminds me a lot of Fast Racing Neo - that was also my biggest problem with that game when I played it. I hoped for a kind of F-Zero, but wasn't really satisfied. I guess this would be the same with this game here. I really hope that someday a new F-Zero will come, in my opinion still the best futuristic racer
I agree. The cars are just way too big. You may as well be playing Thumper, or some other old rail racer where you pick left, right, or center.
The fun of F-Zero was having all that space around the track to zoom around and try to weave in and out of 30 opponents, wind up lateral momentum to smack 'em off the track, and make your racing lines however you needed based on your specific car's abilities.
With this game, the vehicles are so darn bulky that it feels like tracing a picture instead of drawing one. Like playing air hockey on a table a foot wide. It may be flashy to look at, but compared to the proven potential of F-Zero, it's bland and boring to play.
Sorry but whoever is playing this game is really bad, the ships all handle differently but each of them feel great once you learn how to control them. You should only very rarely be hitting any of the walls once you learn to play
Guys, if you pick "Cebra Genetics" as your main in Fast RMX, you'll get the real F-Zero experience. One more thing: Choose the farthest camera perspective. It, alone, will do away with that pesky bulkiness! No wonder 'Cebra' is the first option on the Car Select screen. And no wonder Cebra looks exactly like Dr Stewart's Golden Fox. Try this, and you won't regret.
@@hashbrown5879 I still feel like the tracks are way too narrow. Choking portions of the track is fun for momentary challenges in F-Zero, but the whole experience is brought down when the entire course forbids wild lateral movement. Friggin Mario Kart 8 is a better F-Zero game than Fast and Redout in this and many other regards.
Thank you for replying! I can tell "Mario Kart 8" is up there with the racing Greats, particularly at 200cc. The game becomes as crazy as stuff of F-Zero WHILE at 200cc. As far as Fast RMX is concerned, the real Blue Falcon in the game is Kamagori, NOT Fulcon Capital. And, the only other two F-Zero-like vehicles in RMX are Spaarc Unlimited, which is tiny & insanely fast, and Rochdale Trust. These two, combined, are the "Samurai Goroh" experience. All said and done, Cebra is still the go-to vehilcle to beat any race, any championship, in any mode, or any difficulty. Cebra is as super-reliable as that. And, just for the sake of emphasis: Fast RMX needs to be play with the farthest camera.
Big fan of wipeout and I sunk hours into it as a kid. Having it in handheld would be unbelievable for me and this almost cuts it. Hope there will be sale so I’d feel less bad getting the pass along with it. Got a massive backlog so this can wait
I grew up playing F-Zero and love the tight controls. Could never enjoy the more floaty, slidey racers.

Instant buy for me. Loved the first one. Sure, every other version is propably better and you might go blind if you play it for too long on switch cause it's such a blurry mess, but it was still a great game. It's fast, fluid and the soundtrack and general artistic direction is just amazing.
I know I may be alone with this, but the first Redout is at the top of my list of futuristic racers on Switch, just behind F-Zero X. Sure, Fast RMX is technically better in almost every aspect but it kinda lacks "character" (not saying Fast is a bad game, it's amazing!).
I would have loved if the developers had put some more love into their game and fix some of the performance issues of the first one, but they never seemed interested in that.

Saw this game listed on the eshop this morning and was sorely tempted to hit the purchase button. Decided to wait for your review after remembering how muddy the first game looked on Switch. This one looks to perform a bit better, but I must admit I'm still on the fence. Might grab it, but might also wait for a sale. Decisions, decisions... Regardless, thanks for the review. It really helps when making decisions like this.

@@repeekyraidcero Live A Live looks okay to me, and Two Point Campus will probably devour ~100 hrs of my life, but I'm mostly waiting for the NMS port in October. Loved that game on PS4, loved it in VR, and will play the heck out of it on Switch (assuming the port is halfway decent). October can't come soon enough.

I really wish Nintendo could stop being intentionally behind on hardware specs. If you own a switch and either ps5 or xbx, idk why you’d pick switch for a multiplatform release like this. Portability isn’t worth the dip in visuals AND performance.

Hi and thanks for the review! I'm curious how performance holds up in the later part of the game if anyone can share their experience. I see the switch version has been keeping up with the patches and I've read some users experiencing performance issues before - game becoming unplayable due to framerate drops on longer races. If anyone knows if this game remains playable and doesn't drop frames, or stutters too often I'd appreciate a reply. I have finished the first Redout with all DLC on PC, and I'm halfway through Redout 2, and they're just some of my favorite games ever and I'm trying to decide if I should get it on switch as well. Thanks!
Love these! Just as an fyi, for whatever reason, your end card screen seems to go REALLY slow. Like choppy framerates and the suggested videos take a while to pop up. Something to look at!

WipEout was one of my favorite PS game ever. It was simple, exhilarating, and customisable soundtrack. I spent hundreds of hours combining XL, 3, and Fury.
Wipeout also ran at 1080p/60 on the bloody PS3 while looking 10 times better than this thing.
Honestly wipeout on the vita still feels really smooth

Is there/will there be a full review? Because there is enough in this video to give it a score surely? Don't think there is a need for a separate performance review video section as performance should always be covered in a standard review as it affects gameplay and graphics. If I had to guess a score from this I'd say 70% plus?

Got the first game on PS4. Never fully got comfortable with the handling but it was alright. But this version here makes Fast Racing seem even more impressive for a Switch game honestly. That looks stunning and runs at 60.
Don't really think 30fps cuts it for a game like this. Any racing game really but especially futuristic racers like this..
Patch 1.0.7 dropped recently and the game is now highly playable just like RO1.

1:56 Handheld performing better is usually due to less rendering work.
TV Renders everything bigger (720p), handheld gets away with less => better performance usually.

Seeing games like this just makes me pine for a new F-Zero or at the very least an HD remaster of GX. One of the handful of "leakers" on Twitter recently said something F-Zero is coming, but added a comment to "manage expectations." Whether that precludes a remaster of GX, who knows. I mean it is a decades old game (from the GameCube), so maybe it's a reasonable ask? Hopefully we'll find out soon.
They’ve been saying that for years about F-Zero and a couple more games. The leakers tend to actually be rumour circulators with not much to say.

What!? The Switch plays on the TV? Seriously, my dock is still in the bubble wrap in the box, both on my original and OLED. I bought the switch just for the portability since I have from 6-24 hours of down time at work. Perfect for in home health care.
I'm the EXACT opposite. I almost NEVER remove the Switch from it's dock. I play almost exclusively on the TV!

I play it on Ps5 in 4K 60fps 😇 with HDR.
Beautiful game and runs great, but do you ever get to race with other vehicles? Seems a little lonely out there, like the rally game of Wipeouts
He was playing in arcade mode which is basically just a time trial. This is the only way to play all of the tracks without unlocking them through the campaign. In regular race events, there are other vehicles on the track.

When it comes to silly racing, I always look at Asphalt 9 on Switch. Sure, it's classic F2P with eshop etc., always online, but it provides 60FPS and really crisp looking graphics. And ofc, silly gameplay with boosters, nitro, jumps and takedowns.

As far as anti-grav racing goes, it's hard to beat Wipeout Omega Collection.
Wipeout 2048 is just brilliant. I just wish it had more tracks.
And if you've got PSVR, that takes things to a whole new level!
I really hated Wipeout Omega Collection and i'm a huge fan of anti-grav racers. It's fun how you find it nearly perfect while i regretted buying it. It was really one of the badest racing games, i've played in my whole life.

How does it stack up next to Fast RMX? Gameplay wise that was the fastest racing game I've ever played. Or should I say the fastest game I've ever "seen" because I haven't got a cat in hell's chance of ever unlocking the hardest & fastest modes. Beginner/Novice was utterly insane & already the fastest game I've ever experienced. To the point where I think the fastest class looks like it would be dam near unplayable. Is this more in the same vein?
This fast and 30fps isn’t ideal
I played it for couple of days and it is addicting but for some reasons my switch completly fails on one and only for Story needed race in the beginning first 2 rounds everything fine 3/4 my switch always says f*ck it and lags not just a little the hole race and try to fly through corners with not even 10 fps while driving 900+ kph. I bought it (again) on my ps4 so i can beat everything else this game can offer
Let's face it guys. By this time in the Switch life cycle it's a primarily portable console rather than hybrid. Alot of the game really suffer from image quality when connected via the dock. I really wish there was a Switch OLED lite
The normal version of Switch and the OLED version both sell much, much more than the lite. That probably means people use it docked and undocked. Anyway Fast RMX was a launch game on Switch and it has 60FPS and better graphics than Redout2. It is just that some developer not want to (or are not experienced enough to) optimize a for the Switch version (as long as some people buy unoptimized games like this). Despite the fact that the Switch ports often sell more than other versions.
30fps is a big oof for racing games. Especially considering Sony had Wipeout running at 1080p60 on the PS3. Switch should be able to do it. But that's what poor engine level optimizations gets you. Would rather drop some of the eye candy to get there. Now on PC, this is what those 144hz+ monitors are made for.
Fast RMX is 60 FPS and 1080p on the Switch because they have a custom engine not crappy Unreal Engine 4

It looks like a beautiful game, but the movement of the vehicles seems really swimmy and a little clunky. F-Zero was tight and precise. Nintendo still did it best, and they need to make a new F-Zero to show how it's done!
I totally understand not making a new F-Zero game.... I don't understand not bringing F-Zero GX to Switch. That game would hold up brilliantly with not much work and I know so many fans would love to be able to play it again.
Look at FAST RMX, much better game than this and technically and graphically lightyears ahead.

While it runs smoother than the first game, it still couldn't touch Fast RMX when it comes to control, performance, and graphical fidelity. The control here are still slippery for my liking and the graphics are sometimes too high of contrast or too low in details. This is something both Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Fast RMX doesn't produced when both are play on Switch whether dock or in handheld mode.

Wipeout is the opposite of that which this is more like. Narrow tracks with aggressive opponents and blister speeds
This works great on Steam deck. I can't imagine playing this on my Switch.

Just buy FAST RMX. I believe it's still the only Switch game that does 4 player split-screen 60 fps.
