EDIT: As stated in the intro, Portable Ops and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance have questionable canonicty to the Metal Gear Saga. When asked in an interview in 2014, Kojima's quote on the matter was: "In terms of the overall storyline, it's part of the saga but in terms of the small details, it's a little, it would appear to be a little off from the main story." By this, it seems Kojima considers the games he produced but didn't write/design in their own category, but he has never outright said they aren't canon. This is why I state to take them with a grain of salt in the intro. My including them in the main saga portion of the video is not me making any kind of claim to their canonicty, and you can continue believing whatever you want. With that out of the way, what would you like to see me cover next?
God I love how Ocelot is literally just that one guy who says / does some dumb shit then pretends like it was all intentional. Absolute agent of chaos that I love
He's the best character, because of his flaws he is so human you can't not relate to his kooky emotional ways. He is just like his mother lol truly, and that's great for the story. Snake is like his mentor and father figure - there is rivalry but respect as well. Snake refuses to kill Adamski because he is saving the world for the younger generation - that's him! And Ocelot knows he is learning from the very best and seems just grateful to be in the thick of it. I would have loved to have seen, as Kojima's final PS game... *Adamski : From 1955-1965* a sort of matching timeline of what Adamski is up to during the rest of the MGS canon. An adventure combat game, where sneaking is minimal and most of the time is cool gunfights.
Ocelot is like Majima, they have the hots for the player character, and just do whatever hoping to get a reaction, the main difference being Ocelot doesn't hide in a giant paper-mache traffic cone.

It’s so awesome that you covered the entire timeline. I grew up playing Metal Gear game (even the original Metal Gear and PSP games), but never got the opportunity to play MGS4 since it was a PS3 exclusive. It looks like a true masterpiece with amazing callbacks to its predecessors and it wraps up the Solid saga perfectly. Thanks for making a coherent synopsis of the entire timeline.
I recently got into the Metal Gear series as a friend gifted me MGS5 for Christmas for PC. I only played MGS1 for a few hours, got up to africa in MGS5 before stopping, and only completed MGR. Playing through 5, I'm loving the series. Listening to this video at work to keep the night shift entertaining. Thank you so much for helping me understand the chronology of this insane story
Dude, I love how MGSV literally left me with a phantom pain. I still play it just to “remember.” Sincerely, Long-time metal gear fan holding out for additional titles.
My husband loves these games. He's finally talked me into watching him play/watch videos to understand the story and holy moly this is a lot! Thanks for making this video it's helping me understand all the little things I've missed because there is just too much in this series!
Mad respect for including Portable Ops and Rising in the canon entries. Many people dismiss those as being canon just because Kojima couldn't slap their name on them everywhere despite them being canon.
Only some of them like Snake's Revenge and Survive are truly not canon (or alternate continuity?) Well, at least we got some backstory about Roy Campbell before Shadow Moses Incident.
I choose to believe that Port Ops isn't canon because in that game Big Boss is just given the idea of a metal gear and outer heaven AND the resources to fund and employ it from Jean. He's also told his future by the little girl psychic and her alternate self. It takes away a lot of Big Boss' autonomy in the universe because all the stuff we thought he built up himself was just GIVEN to him by the lamest boss in the series. It almost felt fanfiction levels. "My oc villain Jean had the first REAL Metal Gear and was a SUPER DUPER psychic. He also inspired Big Boss to make Outer Heaven! AND my other super Psychic Ursula and whatever her sister's name tell him about Solid and Liquid Snake!" And as a cherry on top, they took Frank Jeager's backstory and made to where he was ALWAYS a ninja instead of being made one by Para-Medic Dr. Clark. Apparently that was all Jean too. Just gave him everything and the kitchen sink.
@@xacmashe3852 Metal Gear Solid 4, Peace Walker, and even Metal Gear Solid 5 in one of Ocelot's tapes both referenced Portable Ops in their own ways contradicting your claim
Wow, 6 hours of my favourite games series chronological story explanation/retrospective. Thank you so much for this, I am definitely going to enjoy every second of this.
Never played a single metal gear game, and it's a pleasure to watch the entire video, which has thought me the narrative of the entire franchise (makes me more curious in playing one title). Thank you so much for the hard work and commitment.
This was absolutely amazing. I never would of known that metal gear survive actually had a competent story. Also, Jesus Christ this is one complicated timeline.
Thanks! Excellent work. I hope the work you put into this, help to make this video reach 1 million + views. It's certainly deserving of such a milestone.
Dude whilst I absolute love this and am watching all of it again; I don't think you will get to a million likes as it's so long - barely anybody has the time or commitment for all that. However, if you were to cut it into a series, and release one every wed and sat at 7pm = say an eight part series, 25 mins per ep .... then I think each separate video would _very quickly and easily_ get a million plus *each* . Just cater to the mass market a bit more and you're looking at a real winner. First you should probably get a sponsor arranged and maybe even related MGS merch. But yeah this amount of work on the mastercopy (this video) can be churned into a bunch of new content that drives your popularity as well as brings new people and cash back to you. I mean for the amount of time you must have spent - it's actually sat there ready to go lol you could definitely afford to spend more time and money strategising this as you could even enrich your brand with the widened appeal. This amount of work coupled with passion and talent, man you can do anything. God bless, and best of luck! _edit_ I wanted to put this with the donation but it was too long! I would love to see more stuff like this, Kojima games and beyond. I watch a lot of stuff from a tiny pool, but they're all paid :) It's totally worth it to see more great content like this. Really, it's fantastic work. You should be damn proud.
Words cannot express the level of respect and total admiration I have for this all encompassing Metal Gear project. You’ve done us fans, who will (like me, I’m sure) just about pledge allegiance to all things Metal Gear, more than justice. Thank you over and again. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kojima himself would be impressed with this work.

If I had to come up with a reason I’d say it maybe has something to do with the End’s reduced heart rate but the way the parasites work was most definitely retconned because Hideo wanted to sexualize Quiet.
@@darndavid7569 If you listen to the cassette tapes by Code Talker, he explains how the SKULLs Unit and Parasite abilities work and they're basically the same as Quiet's. So considering the SKULLs don't fight in bikinis then you'd be right in saying Kojima just wanted to sexualise Quiet
Maybe 11 years passed. The logo in the back changed to “outer heaven” but that could’ve been symbolic. He literally punches a hole into oblivion and walks off so it’s hard to know what’s real and what’s just a narrative construct
Love the effort you guyz put into these videos ❤️❤️❤️...been watching almost all of your releases to games that I couldn't have time to play and have enjoyed it (recaps, timelines, & story summaries)...keep up the good work 👍
I really like to believe that little fan made comic " Last Day in Outer Heaven " is also canon. It gives a nice closing to both Venom Snake and Quiet's stories, as well as setting up the events of Metal Gear 2.
I have to say as a loyal mgs fan. I have seen videos placed together before. I periodically love refreshing this story line for myself and this was by far the best video that I have seen put together yet. Great job.
I really only played 2, 3, and 4 of the series, and I knew I was missing a lot but never felt the desire to play the others to see what I had missed. This video is just what I needed to help understand the story as a whole but see the things I missed in the games that I did play. Now I need to watch this video again to understand the stuff I missed on the first watch.
As someone who never played or seen any of the series, this was a really good summary, well done :) I never knew the Murasama was a reference to these games, cool.
Thank you for the video, I watched all six hours of it across a few days. This saga is close to my heart, and I appreciate your hard work in creating this masterpiece.
I watched the whole video even though I played all the main series multiple times. It always surprises me how many details I have never noticed or seen before appear in videos like this. Great job 👌

Metal Gear Solid 3 had some of my favorite game bosses ever. But the ability to kill the end early on while he's being rolled away in his wheelchair, or by just advancing the clock on the ps2 so he dies of old age in the battle is one of the greatest parts of this game!
Thanks a ton for uploading this brother! It's damn awesome that the narration is in the chronological order :'D Btw, I can recall during the hospital scene, 1:39:58 'Quiet' reported to HQ about Venom Snake being only "a patient" who witnessed the killings but not as the "big boss". Did she knew that the real big boss was beside the medic? Could someone clarify that? Thanks in advance 😄

Thanks for making a coherent synopsis of the entire timeline.
If you have the money ebay is a good place to get a ps3 and the game I just ordered mgs4 for $10 and free shipping
I still play it just to “remember.”
Sincerely, Long-time metal gear fan holding out for additional titles.
Finally after 20 years of playing MGS I understand something
My husband loves these games. He's finally talked me into watching him play/watch videos to understand the story and holy moly this is a lot! Thanks for making this video it's helping me understand all the little things I've missed because there is just too much in this series!
Youre a real one
Mad respect for including Portable Ops and Rising in the canon entries. Many people dismiss those as being canon just because Kojima couldn't slap their name on them everywhere despite them being canon.
Only some of them like Snake's Revenge and Survive are truly not canon (or alternate continuity?)
Well, at least we got some backstory about Roy Campbell before Shadow Moses Incident.
@bfk23 Yeah, who knows what happens next to Raiden... If only they made another game about him, but... Yeah.
AND my other super Psychic Ursula and whatever her sister's name tell him about Solid and Liquid Snake!"
And as a cherry on top, they took Frank Jeager's backstory and made to where he was ALWAYS a ninja instead of being made one by Para-Medic Dr.
Do they though? Got any specific citations cause I’m not sure that’s true.
Wow, 6 hours of my favourite games series chronological story explanation/retrospective. Thank you so much for this, I am definitely going to enjoy every second of this.
Six hours?! You're pretty good
*finger guns*
In all serious, that was a hell of a work you did. Good job
@Game Trade Gregg ❤️❤️
Never played a single metal gear game, and it's a pleasure to watch the entire video, which has thought me the narrative of the entire franchise (makes me more curious in playing one title). Thank you so much for the hard work and commitment.
You should try metal gear rising its not as stealthy and isn't all that difficult
This series was a huge part of my childhood. Its awesome to have alllll the deep lore in one video thank you❤
This was absolutely amazing. I never would of known that metal gear survive actually had a competent story. Also, Jesus Christ this is one complicated timeline.
Thanks! Excellent work. I hope the work you put into this, help to make this video reach 1 million + views. It's certainly deserving of such a milestone.
Thank you so much that means a lot!
_edit_
I wanted to put this with the donation but it was too long! I would love to see more stuff like this, Kojima games and beyond. I watch a lot of stuff from a tiny pool, but they're all paid :) It's totally worth it to see more great content like this. Really, it's fantastic work. You should be damn proud.
this deserves so much more views, so does your channel as a whole. a six hour breakdown thats real dedication right there.
And just like that. I asked myself "i wonder if anyone did an exhaustively long in depth chronological explanation of the MG/MGS series?" And here I am, arriving at this masterpiece. Well its noon on a Sunday, and i think I know what I'm gonna do.
As always, stunning work. Thank you for tackling such a convoluted series in an easy to follow method. Keep up all the awesome work!
At first I thought this video was just a livestream when I saw how long it is. But man, you really covered all the lore and actually made a 6 hours long video full of MGS story, I love you
This deserves a lot more recognition. Huge kudos for the amount of the work this must have took. Happy holidays!
HOLY MOLY, I NEVER REALLY UNDERSTOOD THE COMPLEXITY OF MGS. I am thankful to you kind sirs for bringing such a detailed and comprehensive masterpiece.
A masterpiece and a joy for the true OG metal gear nerds. Thanks so much guys!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Man what an intense story and timeline. One of my favorite series since Metal Gear Solid for the PS.
I give this video a S rank! Epic, something for everyone who loves the MG world, as well as those who got lost in how convoluted the story is given the games timeline is spread far and wide. Well done SG, well done! 👍
I’m a huge fan and still learned all the stuff about Ames behind the scenes. This was worth every second
This has to be the greatest video I've watched in a very long time. As you said at the end, Metal Gear ran deep in my heart, and frankly it was a key part of my childhood. Getting to watch the story together this way, priceless.
This is just incredible work. I'm a huge MGS fan, and I've always needed something like this since I wasn't able to play all of its videogames. It also helped me understand A LOT of concepts I didn't fully understand.
Again, this is amazing work.
Congrats!
I surprised that you didn’t lose your sanity while making this video, but either way, this video rocks, keep up the good work
I agree! This one would have been a doozy to create in general!
Probably just some interesting dreams and possibly waking nightmares of shit monsters
I'm a HUGE mgs fan, it's been my favorite media since the pizza hut demo on psx In 1998. I pride myself on being very knowledgeable on it and I'm still learning details I was hazy on! Great video!
Pizza hut demo?!?!?!
They were THREEEEEE piZZA HUUTTTT, DeMO DIISSSSSCCS
1:06:43 "Searching the trucks, Snake finds... a strange man named Mr. Kojima"
"What took you so long Snake?"
I watched this as a non metal gear fan lol and I don't have any idea about this metal gear but im 2 hours in and I enjoy it, hopefully to finish this without skipping
I never thought that spending 6 hours watching this would be a waste. The level of detail you showed in this video is incredible
Have loved this series since i 1st played MGS2. Didn't realise it was 35 years old though! Remember spending hours playing MGS2, 3 and 4. Thank you so much for this SG!
P.s. I hope this isn't a bad thing but your retrospectives are so soothing and relaxing to watch I use them to help me fall asleep. Is that weird? I really do love these videos I promise!
it's hard for people to find videos soothing enough that they could sleep to them, i suppose you just found yours
I honestly never expected this pleasant surprise.
You truly are a dedicated man and I applaud your dedication to not only this video, but your channel as well. Keep up this amazing content.
This 6 hour video Suggestive Gaming kicked ass, hope you all are having a great winter. Absolutely satisfactory Boss, great job!
🙂
That moment of placing the PSX while saying "Snake was able to outsmart the man" was hilarious.
I wasn’t aware of how long the video was until I clicked it… I’ve chosen my fate for the next 6 hours.
Man the End must have had a crazy efficient head if Quiet has to walk around half naked for the photosynthesis to work
She doesn't have to. You can shoot her.
He *is* bald
@@ryanspencer9602 yea but its still less skin
If I had to come up with a reason I’d say it maybe has something to do with the End’s reduced heart rate but the way the parasites work was most definitely retconned because Hideo wanted to sexualize Quiet.
@@darndavid7569 If you listen to the cassette tapes by Code Talker, he explains how the SKULLs Unit and Parasite abilities work and they're basically the same as Quiet's. So considering the SKULLs don't fight in bikinis then you'd be right in saying Kojima just wanted to sexualise Quiet
2:13:31 when Vic Boss flipped the tape over to ‘Operation Intrude’ note that 11 years have passed
Great job.
6 hours? Welp, there goes my afternoon
As someone who never played or seen any of the series, this was a really good summary, well done :)
I never knew the Murasama was a reference to these games, cool.
Great job 👌
I never sat threw something that has been close to home and a classic game I loved to play and watch my brothers play . This was Awesome to watch and it gave me a better understanding of the MGS series 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Holy crap, six whole hours! I've been waiting for this video for a very long time, glad to see it's finally finished. Excellent job!
As many times that I have replayed mgs 1-5, as many times as I've watched video essays and read articles on the series, I'm still learning new tidbits. And that's amazing. Thanks for the great video, well job sir 👍👍👍
Metal Gear Solid 3 had some of my favorite game bosses ever.
But the ability to kill the end early on while he's being rolled away in his wheelchair, or by just advancing the clock on the ps2 so he dies of old age in the battle is one of the greatest parts of this game!
I never realized that the colonel that looks like Raiden is literally named "Ivan Raidonovich" I've always wondered why they look so similar 😭
Thank you guys so much for working on this. The world needed this.
Thanks a ton for uploading this brother! It's damn awesome that the narration is in the chronological order :'D
Btw, I can recall during the hospital scene, 1:39:58 'Quiet' reported to HQ about Venom Snake being only "a patient" who witnessed the killings but not as the "big boss". Did she knew that the real big boss was beside the medic? Could someone clarify that? Thanks in advance 😄
This is top tier and you should be so proud of it! I remember starting this game series with MGS 2 as a 12-year old and having a deep love for it, even though I didnt really know what was going on story wise. Now its been 20 years and Ive played through most of the series and watching this timeline was a joyful trip through memory lane. Thank you for your hard work ❤
This is like the most special gift a metal gear fan could've given to other Metal Gear fans, just amazing, you really did your studying and connections here, you're pretty good!

@@jackiechan5815 fucking incredible
Yes finally now I can understand the story of metal gear solid thank you 😊
Me : Trying to study for my exams tomorrow
Also Me : Passionately watches a 6 Hour video on Metal Gear Solid Timeline
The end of MSG4, from the suicide scene onward has always made me cry
FINALLY FOUND A MGS RECAP VIDEO THAT ACKNOWLEDGES PORTABLE OPS AND RISING 🔥🔥🔥
As a country where we're basically left out of everything and barely even a dot on the world map...I was so astounded that Kojima decided to place Motherbase in Seychelles waters, our waters ..even added a small backstory as to why..made a series that was already dear to me even more close to my heart.
Just want to tell you that I really appreciate the time and the effort you put in this video man, thank you! Hands down MGS is one of the greatest game series ever and definitely one of the most complex yet amazing storylines I’ve ever seen in my entire life of gaming. Much respect to you and I’ll definitely sub
Been waiting for this since it was announced! Also 6 hrs? Amazing work
"Kept ya waiting huh?"
Thank you I can't wait to make my friends watch this in one sitting.
Didn't realize this was 6 hours long. Was listening while doing chores, responding out loud to some of the wtf moments, laying down for bed and realized I still had 2 more hours to go
This is unreal. Incredible work. Thank you for making this.
Not sure where to start, but you just made my day, well at least 6 hours. You’re with no doubt the biggest MGS fan I’ve ever seen.
Never seen such commitment, effort and so on.
I don’t even know how to puts this in words.
All the best buddy. And you’re my MGS Guru.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!😅
“Snake finds where the trucks were taken. Searching the trucks Snake finds a strange man named Mr. Kojima” This part had me laughing pretty hard and caught me off guard 😂😂😂 1:06:40
Not at all an easy task organising such a complex story in such an easy to follow way, thank you!
This is someone that actually deserves donations. This is what UA-cam is made for. Awesome job brother nobody has ever done it like this. Bravo 👏
