@@TrackpadProductions Oh not ironic at all, he was *ahead* of his time in saying this, especially looking at the comeback celluloid has been having and how lazy many digital filmmakers have become!
It's crazy how all the directors are looking for vulnerability in Quentin. But he won't give it to them! LOL He expresses no doubt, or admits to any errors after he picked up the camera. They are looking for imperfections to try to relate to him and he's giving them nothing. I don't know if it's because he thinks they'll turn on him, use it against him. Or if he really feels that way. But they're all admitting vulnerability, which every human has, and he's not. And now, they're even more intimidated by him. lol he does NOTHING to ease that tension. He's a beast
Brent Sellow Ang Lee and Tom Hooper (especially Ang) are so much more talented in creating a films then Quentin.......and for the people who do not agree with this statement then I can only assume you think a " camp" movie is what makes the world go round which is so very far away from the truth.
patr70 Ang is very talented, I agree. I like Quentin's work. Even though he borrows heavily from Sergio Leone and others. The audience decides who is great by opening their wallets, his talent has been decided. It's indisputable. Other directors idolize him as well. It's apples and oranges.

Ang Lee: The guy who let his academy award winning vfx team go bankrupt and close their company without so much as a thank you, or even mention at all during his academy speech. Class act..
it's so funny seeing this comment, because a Director is hired to direct a movie, not be the business executives behind keeping a company alive. Plus, the blame should go to the film studio that constantly underpays these vfx team...
Tarantino : "dealing with the cameraman, actors, to me that is easy, the hard part is creating story and characters from scratch and writing the screenplay... oops, I'd better not say that among directors... um... temper tantrum..."
Tarantino's approach to screenwriting is the exact opposite of what I read in Blake Snyder's Save the Cat. Snyder - and many other gurus - says that a script is just a blueprint and that treating a script like literature is pretentious. Tarantino refutes that theory and I appreciate that.
This round table has such talented directors present....lot of comments about QT being pretentious and not being humble....honestly I’d rather someone who’s 100% real, comfortable in his own skin rather than many of these other guys who are being stiff and calculated/fake. People who are talented are often crazy and full of ego and that’s the trade off....it’s a generalization and stereotype like you can’t be good looking and smart. The thing is all of these guys have had films that failed critically and commercially QT says he’s only directing 10 but he has 10 already there’s only 1 I didn’t like which is Death Proof. His reason though for only having 10 films is actually interesting because he says when he was growing up he’d see a film of someone’s and then refer to there IMDB to see there body of work but was then left unsatisfied because there body of work was disappointing and he wants 10, 20 50 years from now when a kid sees one of his films they can refer to his body of work and be pleasantly satisfied by all the work done in his career and the choices he made....whereas every director has disappointing films where you say really he made that what was he thinking? Affleck is a very talented director as Gone Baby Gone is one of my all time favorite films....I think as an actor he’s limited he’s not god awful but he’s not Leo or Denzel caliber which is fine he shines in directing and I look forward to seeing what else he makes....This interviewer needs to get hit by a bus or just stop talking and let them rif
Right on point!! You can totally see how for the next twenty minutes he tried in all the ways to throw in little jokes and make fun of Quentin... but QT kept just talking like there's just a background air conditioner sound.
8:15 for anybody curious, the movie he's talking about is Hulk. Mychael Danna was fired and replaced with Danny Elfman. And when he says that recently they had become friends again and worked together, he secretly meant it was that very year for Life of Pi which was the first time they reunited. And Mychael Danna won an Oscar so it turned out ok.
David O and Ben can't handle the passion and purity of Tarantino's film nerdiness. For him it's not about being cool or pretentious (though Quentin can be both). It's about loving movies, not soundbites or sounding smart.

About once a year I come back to watch this particular directors Roundtable because within the first 7 Minutes Ben Affleck makes a statement then agrees with what Tarantino says then was what David o'russell says and if you notice that's basically all he does this entire interview it's almost as if he has to agree with other directors because he feels inferior about not being in his mind at least a real director which is weird
Uh I don't think it's that deep dude, you forget Ben is primarily an actor and at this point in his career he was only on his third film so he's probably just chilling in actor mode in this conversation
