I could see caribou evolution going in either of two ways; becoming quieter and more solitary to reduce noise like most life on Kaishel, or possibly becoming _more_ noisy to be more intimidating to the predator's sensitive hearing.

Although, I do have to wonder what would happen if a breeding population of them got into the Known World? Can’t imagine it’d end well for anyone.
This was awesome! They are so unique yet plausible creatures. I do think it would be cool if there was an animal that used the Silent Ones' sensitive hearing against them by becoming louder to disorient them or damage their hearing when pursued. Maybe that could be the direction the Caribou take
Maybe so, but if that sound is only damaging at short ranges, what's stopping more Silent Ones from awakening and waiting on the periphery of the sonic barrier, potentially surrounding the loud beast in question before they have to stop for a breather and then swarming it under??
@@ericward8459they could alternate the frequencies they make thus fooling the ecolocation. By switching from a sonic blast to selective sound nullification they could render themselves invisible to those that arrive who will find their stunned relatives of whom they will consume.
@@andresmarrero8666 That's not a bad idea, but how effective would that be in practice, do you think? Like, I assume the modulating sound would be made while creature in question is fleeing the Silent Ones. How long could they keep that up before one of the pursuers pinpoints their prey?
@@ericward8459 probably for quite a while given antler design and lung capacity and aided by the fact they live in herds. So presumably after creating the sonic blast they will start walking away with the young and tired individuals in the middle so that they can catch their breath while still contributing due to their antlers. Given that the silent ones are usually starving after waking from stasis they are unlikely to do a second sweep and would just consume their stunned kin. This naturally won't always work and a second sonic blast would be emitted which will likely lead to the loss of a few members on the perimeter of the herd. From the perspective of the silent ones these trickster caribou are teleporting around, not always being where they should.
My good sir… the design, the behavior, the ear flaps covering the face BRINGING ME NIGHTMARES, the drawings themselves, this is my favorite of your creatures!! Holy Jesus, worth every second of waiting, and that masterpiece intro. I felt shivers going down my spine when that last one roars even despite the fact that I was expecting it. But maybe I should wait with watching it until nigth to feel it even better.
Without a doubt this has been one of the episodes that I most expected to see. Amazing job Keenan! I have to ask, who would win a 1v1 confrontation between a Silent One and an Arctobufo?
Thank you! Easy Arctobufo win as long as it can catch the Moørkutlot. Powerful crushing bite would make short work of the click frog, and being a heterotherm, they could be quite still and wait for the silent one to come in range
What a fantastic episode! The Moøkutlot are so well developed. I enjoy their whole concept, evolutionary history, anatomical and physiological features, behavior, ecological role, the sounds they make, etc. The non-newtonian slime and venom is such an interesting and clever detail and probably my favourites thing about them aside from their physical appearance. I also like the fact that at the same time this video is an overview of the heterotherms in general. Instantly a fan of the Arctobufo. I don't know how you manage to make a hulking apex predator simultaneously be one if the cutest animals, but it is essentially a polar bear frog with the color-changing abilities of a cuttlefish.
Hey, why did you make a creature with the most conceptually terrifying venom anyone has ever made while making their only weakness being that salt makes their skin itchy.
The most terrifying predators in all of Kaimere no doubt! I don’t think anyone would want to encounter them. Also any encounter with them would be like a horror movie with the prey having to sneak away slowly and quietly with the fear that the smallest sound could be your doom!
0:00 to 1:01 very creepy intro it both gave me goosebumps a tingle in my spine the shivers absolute fear good for you keenan Taylor you just gave us one of the most SCARIEST!!!!!!!!!!! creatures in Kaimere
Thanks,I love them already. Can't wait to knlw their role in the third novel.I like that they're not just a bat or something like that but a unique order and also that they seemed like a prefect predator and can stand anything in their way.I also like that their also don't have eyes because well it's a unique design choice.
Ever since you mentioned heterotherms in your Pterosaur videos, I got really curious. Now that we've introduced the Silent Ones and the others in their clade, it's very scary to see how they've evolved. I even like the movement chart. They are pretty scary, I must say! It must give any Kaimeran nightmare fuel. I'm glad you liked Primeval, as I did too when I watched it. I must say it's very inspiring for my own speculative work. Once again, well done, Keenan!
The most coherent, scientifically plausible and realistic version of this archetypal silencer killer! Intriguing predatory alien quite iconic for his lack of eyes complemented by his multiple jaws and sharp sensory flexibility! Bloody Brutal!! Also wacky, crooked and awesome speculative backstory origin!!
The non-Newtonian slime doesn't sound entirely realistic to me... but that doesn't mean its impossible. I like that these lifeforms have adaptations we don't see on Earth. Definitely makes them feel more compelling, and I really like the angle of them being life native to Kaimere(or at least more native than the other animals). Great episode!
Just because something doesn't seem that has arisen now on this epoch doesn't mean it's impossible or unrealistic to appear, take for example bombardier beetles adaptation if they had gone extinct before us and none had gone fossilised you'll likely argue the same that it would be unrealistic for a beetle to develop such adaptations Besides I'm quite certain that many unique and exotic adaptations like this could have arisen once or a few times on different clades but simply disappeared by natural causes and never fossilised such things
@@Alien_Evolution more like many humans tend to assume in absolutes leaving little to no room in ambiguity and speculation We realistically don't know nor probably know as far as of now all the biological adaptations and behaviours that went extinct with many clades and we have no idea even existed

This episode is a MASTERPICE in all the possible aspects !
Man... this episode is pure gold! The whole family of beasts you've created will be a fun challenge once I get the current set of beasts done. For the Moorkutlot, I plan on making two separate heads, one showing off its incredible sensory display. On a different note, congratulations for being one of the only people who's created a creature that genuinely scares me! And on another different note, the snow king is a magnificent beast that I'll have the honor of making into a figurine eventually.
As for a base, I could use some lean ungulate for the Moorkutlot. If memory serves, I have a headless big horn sheep body I could use for a base to put the caulk on. As for the Arctobufo Rex... I believe I don't have any model that fits near its description, so I shall make a base out of chop sticks and expanding foam. I should be able to caulk it over and do my sculpting and details.
Anything silent forest related is exactly what I need on the loudest night of the year. Many thanks, Keenan! And holy crabs, heterotherms are SPOOKY. I love them!
I’d rather be torn apart by chimpanzees than encounter just one of these things. Also, I didn’t know that they were inspired by the Future Predators from Primeval. I loved that show! A few questions: 1. Aside from salt and their slime having a limit to what it can withstand, are there any other weaknesses of the Silent Ones? 2. Despite being the apex predators of Kaishel, do Moørkutlot sometimes fall prey to other large predators like the Snow King and the Ketlrek? 3. Are there rumors that some Moørkutlot escaped the First Children and are running loose outside of Kaishel? If not, do any of the peoples of the Know World have stories about them? 4. How are those who managed to successfully kill a Silent One viewed by the Tlaton?
Mr Taylor you sir are a master of suspense. Your choice of music and how you slowly build to the reveal of this group throughout the episode are masterful. I particularly love the addition of non nutonian fluids employed as both armor and weapon. Another monster these rind me of are the Trimors 2 Shrikers in how the hunting cries act to summon others to a kill. Truly an excellent episode you had chills running up and down my back the entire time
Sweet Raptor Jesus that intro with headphones …. Also if I’m being honest I think I just learned about the only animal in all of Kaimere that genuinely instills the essence of fear into me.
Honestly, congrats to the Heterotherms. They belong to one of the earliest dynasties in Kaimere, were kin to one of the original rulers of the planet, their dynasty got knocked down for a bit, and now are so dominant that the entire ecology of their home revolves around them once more, no matter what waves of life come. Even the First Children didn’t want to mess with them too much. That is an absolute flex.
Assembly Agent:Why is everything so quiet? Tlaton singing: Shh don't talk so loud. Assembly Agent: What are you talking about? Tlaton: Oh god it's here. Silent one: Who woke me up from my slumber? Agent and Tlaton; AHH!
This is such an awesome video, very cool and I am glad I am not the only one who enjoyed Primeval. In my Spec Evo project of Aotearoa I created a group of flightless bat similar to the Future Predator and the Night Stalker with them being among the dominate predators of the continent. Though not completely blind they were able to take up various niches from being large primate like fruitivores and tiger and dhole like predators and even a few that are sangivores in the dense forests of Aotearoa. Keep up the great work Keenan.
This was such a cool episode! I love all the cool abilities you gave the heterotherms, from their echolocation to their non-Newtonian slime and venom. Far more creative than any of the other silent hunters I've seen in fiction! The other members of the clade like arctobufo and the sloth frog were also quite fascinating to learn about! Truly cool frogs!
I absolutely LOVE the idea of an entire clade of animals that have absolutely no relation to any animal in the fossil record of earth, diverging very early in their history. Very speculative!
I can only imagine an outsider traveler to the region, barely escaping with their life, warning others "Don't. Make. A. Sound. The Frogs... have ears" "Pfft, really mate? Frogs? What're they gonna do, ribbit at you?" "No... they click." "They... click?"
Whoa 😳. I knew the introduction to the heterotherms would be cool but you blew this one out of the park! Some thing that I’ve noticed in working on my own speculative evolution project Is that a prompt can be very restraining. These limitations can provide fun challenges, but there’s only so much you can do within the realm of feasibility. Your prompt allows you to be so creative! It’s incredible! Truly unique and fascinating take on the “future predator” trope!
I absolutely adore this video, it might be my favorite kaimere video, the moorkutlot is one of my favorite animals on the planet, up there with the sauropods, bokodu and uktan. It is one of the most unique animals I’ve ever seen and the things you can imagine and draw are insane. You did a wonderful job! Also it’s worth noting that kaishal and the moorkutlot remind me of the deep dark of Minecraft, with the warden being a giant blind creature that uses sound and smell and the whole gimmick about the biome is that you must be silent to survive
So I FINALLY got a chance to watch this recently and this might be the best episode so far, and that's a high hurdle to clear. I was in the 'they be aliens' camp but this explanation is extremely satisfying and creative. And while the Moortukot are amazing my favorite critter of the episode might actually be the Arctobufo, love the description.
That would be fun! They would make a pretty boring protagonist species (metabolism means they are extremely efficient so mostly spend their days sleeping) but they would certainly make for an interesting setting for something else in their environment! There are highly intelligent species of pterosaur in the forests and likely would make good PoV candidates!
@TalesofKaimere True, the sleeping/torpor could make things boring, but could also make for a neat episodic structure taking places over a hundred years or so. Then again, non-newtonian venom is a lot more effective as a story element from the perspective of the victim
These things remind me of a cross between not only the Future Predators from Primeval, but also Gamma Hunters from Resident Evil 3 (Not the remake). Quite disturbing monsters.
I am not surprised so many Kaimerans think them to be demons! but you have made their evolution and biology entirely plausible. you even gave them a reasonably plausible way to resist (low-caliber) bullets! very impressed! Take salt water spray wherever you go! make sure one's clothes are nice and salty!
I've been really looking forward to this one. Could never weap my head around how they managed to keep sauropods quiet. Wonder how they would do on the mainland.
@@rylanbrewer3320I think that most of the predators we currently known to be in the Highland are the main ones to be present in it. I would be all over an open world survival game set on Kaimere. Everything about this universe is absolutely fascinating and more than a little terrifying XD
Something I can't help but ponder; the video mentions that the ability of some gunfire is reduced in ability due to the non-newtonian secretions of their hides, but given the generally enforced nature of near-silence that has happened due to the explosive success of the Moørktulot, shouldn't gunfire be almost painfully debilitating to these animals? Their only interaction with the World is through echolocation, and human noise pollution, let alone things like gunfire, are generally of a sufficient level of decibels to fare them off. Even if a small caliber pistol might not be sufficient in killing a Silent One right off the bat, would it a decent method at scaring them off due to just unprecedentedly loud noises, or would this just cascade into "and then more Moørktulot run over to investigate and snack on something" Also, related question - at the opposite end of the noise spectrum, but would sauropod infrasound communication be seen on Kaishel? I know that it was stated that their venom is sufficient to kill a sauropod (if pumped in ridiculous doses), but find it hard to believe that animals that big and numerous would be WHOLLY silent and not communicate in the subtler vibrational frequencies, even with these conditions at hand.
Video that should be for Halloween but is right now. We not only got more informations about Silent Ones but also about its relatives. Moørkutlot has amazing design (especially its are very cool looking) and is quite balanced (more dangerous than future predator but way less absurd than death angels). Also this video has probably the best intro so far on the channel.
Now THAT is an intro. I was hoping for a section on how they interact with the largest animals and other apexes like Ketrlek but what we got is just as interesting from another direction. 1. What is the best natural or man-made armament to use against a Silent One? 2. Do humans have any interaction with Arctobufo? 3. Do Silent Ones eat on other xenosimia?
Yeah I had a segment on that but was running way over budget as it was. 1. High caliber rifle if you can get one past the portal guards 2. Yes. Tlaton are occasionally prey. 3. Rarely. For the most part other species are either faster on the ground or more nimble in the trees, but they will kill and eat them if they can.
The Trope in which the Silent Ones fitt, along the Death Angel and the Vesp, the famous "Blind scary monster-like predator that hunt with sound" was effectively created by Dougal Dixon in his book "After Man" (1981). With the famous Night Stalker, one of the main most famous and iconic creature from this book. More generally, this creature have created a more specific and precise trope which have seemingly a bigger influence and distribution than the other one. The one of the "Terrestrial Predatory Bat" ! This trope, which turn around the speculative path that a bat species can evolved to become flightless and completely terrestrial, was used and did way more numerous time that the other trope (the latter more used in monsters-productions, so less regulary since spec-evo isn't the main goal in them). This idea of a flightless terrestrial and predatory efficient bat have also become a highly popular trope since several decades, among the Speculative Evolution entousiasts people. A LOT of specualtive evolution projects have made their own take on the trope, with often great results and originalities. The Future Predator is the most well-known legacy of the trope that the Night Stalker created, wince it was confirmed officially that one of the developpers behind Primeval actually have a copy of "After Man" from Dougal Dixon. Making it the successor of the Nigh Staker both symbolically and directly !

@@andresmarrero8666
That's not a bad idea, but how effective would that be in practice, do you think?

Now THIS is the discourse I love to find in the Internet!
My good sir… the design, the behavior, the ear flaps covering the face BRINGING ME NIGHTMARES, the drawings themselves, this is my favorite of your creatures!! These are so cool, so in depth, so fun, I don’t believe anyone’s taken this approach to a spec evo early lizard echolocation monster, seriously so cool, you are underrated ✨
Thank you so much!!
Holy Jesus, worth every second of waiting, and that masterpiece intro. I felt shivers going down my spine when that last one roars even despite the fact that I was expecting it. But maybe I should wait with watching it until nigth to feel it even better.
This is easily the most terrifying video you've ever made. That roar is spine chilling.
Thank you!!
Probably my favorite species in all of kaimere. So cool and quite unique
Finally something that can kill thoses freaks
Salt was mostly a nod to a lot of old school fairies either needing to count or being averted to salt
@TalesofKaimere It also makes alot of sense considering most slime covered beasts have some sort of problem with salt.
I love how detailed all your creature descriptions are! The silent ones definately became my favorite
9:23 "Keenan said its our turn to be apex predators"
By far one of the best creatures to come out of kaimere. Keep up the good work!
Thank you!!
Thank you! Was fun to give the concept my own spin
@@TalesofKaimere Groovy 😎👍🤩❣️
You know, I'm starting to think the First Children aren't good guys...
Nah, but in all seriousness, another great video, these things are horrifying.
Been waiting on this since i watched the episode on Kaishel. Thanks!
Heck yeah! Was elated when I got the sponsorship
Wish I could like this a million times!!!
Probably one of your best episodes, also definitely one of the most fascinating creatures you designed!
Thanks so much! Was very fun to make up a whole new clade
Thank you! Yeah it’s a very novel feature, but so are many traits in modern tetrapods
Just because something doesn't seem that has arisen now on this epoch doesn't mean it's impossible or unrealistic to appear, take for example bombardier beetles adaptation if they had gone extinct before us and none had gone fossilised you'll likely argue the same that it would be unrealistic for a beetle to develop such adaptations
Besides I'm quite certain that many unique and exotic adaptations like this could have arisen once or a few times on different clades but simply disappeared by natural causes and never fossilised such things
@@a.r.h9919 I agree entirely. Earth life has probably not explored everything life is capable of
@@Alien_Evolution more like many humans tend to assume in absolutes leaving little to no room in ambiguity and speculation
We realistically don't know nor probably know as far as of now all the biological adaptations and behaviours that went extinct with many clades and we have no idea even existed
This episode is definitely... Something else! It's just terrifying, and blood chilling! I was dreading it, but now? Now I wanna watch it Many times over tbh!
But my biggest question is.... Since they have other cousins... Wait, the Heterothermes are also on Kairul And on Arvel and Pakardia? You gotta be kidding me!
Anyways, flying Heterothermes were my most inexpected but welcome addition...
The First and Permian dynasties are definitely my most anticipated, what an amazingly wonderful welcome surprise!
P.S. Sorry for this barrage but... Tbh? I'm now Utterly dragged into Kaimere's lore tbh! Especially it's Zoology and Paleoanthology! I... I have nothing to say but....
THIS IS THE VERY BEST EPISODE SO FAR!
Thank you so much!! I’m super proud of this one and elated people are loving it so far!
@@TalesofKaimere You are ALWAYS welcome, glad that you're proud, and most of all? We would definitely Love it with passion... This is one of the most amazing creatures I ever laid eyes and ears upon, and the entire revelation how bit that clade is... Well...
Happy Independance day btw! Sorry if my brain was shut for a while...
See you soon, and to learn more about the amazing prehistory? I have no idea how to describe that feeling. It made my day despite everything. Thank you a lot...
One final Question, how much salt would deter these terrifying animals?
These eldritch beasts are every echolocation monster knitted and moulded into a scientifically plausible creature!
24:59 that sentence gave me goosebumps
When I was told that a thing not understood and unseen (a silhouette) was more terrifying than knowing a thing and seeing the monster, my monster loving mind hated the idea. I understand it more now. An ancient horror of the distant eons praying on the creatures of the present.
Yeti frogs were awesome to!:)
The night feeder lives in the deepest darkness forest
One of, see THE !, best episode of Tales of Kaimere made so far since a long time ! SEE since the start of the channel itself !
The opening intro, which give entirely by itself alone all the overall ambiance/theme of the video
The music just PERFECT !
The huge number of contents and pictures, whatever from you or the fanarts as additionnal illustration (J_Stoky, SkullBottleArt and Daniel Baldwin especially) on each creatures giving us a lot of precise explanations aboutt hem, their origins, behaviros and ecology.
This episode is a MASTERPICE in all the possible aspects !
22:43
great... just what we need... a polar bear frog.
EDIT: make that chameleon polar bear frogs
Man... this episode is pure gold!
A few questions:
Thank you for breaking my childhood of primeval back
You bet!
This is one of the most creative spec evo creatures I’ve ever seen
Dude the clicking and crackling is horrifying lol this is awesome. This video along with having already read the story only makes it so much better
Heck yeah!! Man it was so much fun to put together
the idea of blind top predator is cool!
amezing video!
For sure! They're an extremely successful clade with a long and proud natural history in Kaimere
Love the sounds on the Silent Ones
This is such an awesome video, very cool and I am glad I am not the only one who enjoyed Primeval. In my Spec Evo project of Aotearoa I created a group of flightless bat similar to the Future Predator and the Night Stalker with them being among the dominate predators of the continent. Though not completely blind they were able to take up various niches from being large primate like fruitivores and tiger and dhole like predators and even a few that are sangivores in the dense forests of Aotearoa. Keep up the great work Keenan.
If you go to 7 minutes and 20 seconds, you can also see a very strange creature. Could it be a prehistoric ancestor to the Moorkutlot?
Yes, it is !
Excellent episode👌. The silent ones have always inteigued me and this episode gave us a thorough knowledge on them
Awesome! So glad this is finally out, I've been excited for it since I saw the kai'shel video.
I absolutely LOVE the idea of an entire clade of animals that have absolutely no relation to any animal in the fossil record of earth, diverging very early in their history. Very speculative!
Thank you!
Ok! One of the best videos by far!
Yet Another Fantastic Video!
Easily be -one of the best episodes ❤
Long awaited and finally here!
I can only imagine an outsider traveler to the region, barely escaping with their life, warning others "Don't. Make. A. Sound. The Frogs... have ears"
"Pfft, really mate? Frogs? What're they gonna do, ribbit at you?"
"No... they click."
"They... click?"
Holy Cheetos, that opening was FIRE!
Thanks!! Was so fun to put together
another day another banger from keenan
So I FINALLY got a chance to watch this recently and this might be the best episode so far, and that's a high hurdle to clear. I was in the 'they be aliens' camp but this explanation is extremely satisfying and creative. And while the Moortukot are amazing my favorite critter of the episode might actually be the Arctobufo, love the description.
Thanks so much glad you enjoyed!!
Now I wanna see those birds that communicate with bioluminescence
The introduction has such an amazing quality
Thank you!
Dude these are the coolest things I've ever seen, I NEED a documentary on them like how you recently did with the Uktan
Wonder how they would do on the mainland.
oh my goodness! the Moorkutlot are finally revealed! oh my goodness!
It's like A Quiet Place, but the wildlife is fully adapted to it.
For the ones who want to know, the music we heard during this episode is called "You're Not Hiding Very Well".
Nice choice btw !
Which antelope do you think would likely do well in the arvelith highland steppes the chiru Mongolian gazelle mongolian antelope or saiga
@@rylanbrewer3320 Both of them. Equally.
@@dudotolivier6363 there main predators on the steppes
@@rylanbrewer3320I think that most of the predators we currently known to be in the Highland are the main ones to be present in it.
That include, whatever their rank, the Common Cockatrice, Ice Age Leopard subspecies, the Cave Hyena, the local Jackal/Wolf species, the Kaimeran fox, the Cave Lion, the Cave Bear, the Highland homotherium, the local species of Bobcat, several species of marsupial cats, several owls and birds of preys species, the several Bathawk pterosaurs tapejarid and the Titan Crow.

Man, this was one of my most anticipated episodes and it exceeded every expectation! You're really killing it lately, Keenan!
Though it makes me wonder, if the Silent Ones video came out now, then what horrors await us for the Halloween episode? 😰
maybe a sound that causes the silent ones to run in the other direction
Starting the video off with only the WORST sounds. I can absolutely see why these things are terrifying
WOW Is an amazing creature and at the same time terrefied, i loved, good job mate.

Such a cool organism, I love this kind of speculative biology. Now I want a movie on your books!
Thank you!! That would be very exciting!
POV your trying to get a mind night snack without waking everyone up
I would be all over an open world survival game set on Kaimere.
Even if a small caliber pistol might not be sufficient in killing a Silent One right off the bat, would it a decent method at scaring them off due to just unprecedentedly loud noises, or would this just cascade into "and then more Moørktulot run over to investigate and snack on something"
Also, related question - at the opposite end of the noise spectrum, but would sauropod infrasound communication be seen on Kaishel?
Alright. Someone please call Rooster Teeth's offices for a Moørkutlot vs. Future Predator Death Battle.
Man these sound so horrifying! I love em!
1. High caliber rifle if you can get one past the portal guards
2. Yes. Tlaton are occasionally prey.
3. Rarely. For the most part other species are either faster on the ground or more nimble in the trees, but they will kill and eat them if they can.
@@TalesofKaimerethen how do they intearct with ketrelk and koordu and the dromeosuars

I hope u talk about arctobufo more because I find them really cool
I love heterotherms so much more after this video, especially the snow king
