Since luffy’s fruit was the one the five elders were talking about, it’s possible that Luffy is not actually a rubber man, since the fruit was renamed. What I’m trying to say is, what if luffy’s body has the properties of both rubber and gum?

Yeah I saw a similar theory which said that Luffy's awakening might be like rubber (eraser) to erase things. Things like people or even history itself.

It's not a gag, we don't know much yet, he got super hurt previously, but he took a super drug that healed him to 100% but had some *unknown side effects* , he proceeded to win a hard fight, and then the big skully (not Brook) appeared right in front of him, people think it's because he is really really close to dying due to the side effects or that it is the visage of Enma the new sword he got, named after the Hell King of the Underworld. Anyway, he was free falling because the tower was going down but Franky saved him this chapter. His destiny is very much unknown as of now.

I don't think it's as important as other information revealed or hinted at in this chapter, but I find it interesting that Big Mum asked if it was Kaido's first time teaming up with Rocks, kind of implying that teaming up is something Rocks did often or at least multiple times

This chapter was a banger. Crazy how far Luffy has come that the Gorosei put out a hit on him. Also bold of them to order some CP0 fodder to take him out

I think it's more that he'll be worn out from fighting Kaido. Whether Luffy wins or loses, ain't no way Luffy walking out of that fight ok, so CP0 can take that chacne to kill him
@soled25 Izo is an (ex) Whitebeard commander though, which is nothing to laugh at. The fact that Izo only took down one of the CP0 members says to me that they're pretty damn strong.

I think gear 4 bounce man has stronger attacks and gear 4 snake man has faster attacks. Thats how I like to think.
Kaido was confused with how he was being hit from different directions. This gives me so much hope
Bounce man does alot more damage but is slower, meanwhile snakeman is faster but weaker.
@@fishmelon7049 Snakeman also has insane damage capabilities, but it's just more precise and quick while Bounceman's attacks are more devastating/destructive over a larger range. Snakeman definitely shines when Luffy is the underdog of the fight, which is why I consider it his ideal form
Snake man with coq is definitely hitting harder than anything we've seen so far too, maybe a coq king kong gun would be harder than hydra, but these hits are devastating
The thing I'm unclear on is what made the Gorosei mention awakening? Did they really just find out what fruit Luffy ate and/or are speculating this fight could cause him to awaken it(like the bit about it being dangerous bc it's a world-class battle)? Or did they just stumble across something in the archives or what? Did Luffy do something that made them think he had awakened his ability or

I think of how he keeps saying, 'When you're ready.. it's almost time, Luffy,' and stuff like that.. So I wonder if maybe Shanks wants the conflict with the World Govt. but only when the time is right. If the Evil Shanks theory ends up being true it would break my head canon 😅😂 Also I think of how Luffy said he wants to beat all of the Emperors, but he didn't want to beat Shanks first, or something like that.. I personally find interesting the line of kaido saing: "where did that come from" because it makes me think its not a line about how the snakeman works but rather a line that reflects that luffy is starting to awaken its devil fruit, witch goes in line with the orders of CP 0
I love how CP0 was like what the fuck do you expect me to do against Luffy and Kaido.
The cp0 may be strong, as strong as Sanji or Zorro on there own. But not "Emperor" strong, as a duo maybe. If both would be on the roof it would be different

I can‘t be the only one thinking, that the five minutes have long passed and that the only reason Onigashima is not above the flower capital is Momonosuke, but I didn‘t see a single comment mentioning it so far... Otherwise Momo would have been utterly useless in several chapters.

I wish we saw some more Denjiro, he had such a cool design about him after the 20 years. Plus he honestly seemed way stronger then the other scabbards and we didn’t really see any show of his power after him cutting that ship in half. Sad 🥲
The 5 minutes was before Momo was pulling back Onigashima. So depending how successful Momo has been, he may have slowed, stalled or even pulled the island further away. Whatever the case, doubt its been 5 in world minutes.

It's hard to say if Shanks will be some kind of villain, but I'm becoming more convinced that he's tied to the ending in a more intricate way than Luffy simply giving the hat back. The Gorosei giving a kill order not long after their meeting with him is more than enough of a red flag.

I think Bob Lucci will attempt to interfere in the fight just like what happened with Oden. Kaido will remember how he didn't defeat Oden honorably and wouldn't want it to happen again. So he will stop Bob Lucci to save Luffy and have an honorable battle

wouldn't it be funny if the CP0 guy comes onto the roof, Luffy's future sight kicks in, Kaido notices, and the two just put aside their fight for a second to punch the agent off the roof for trying to stop their fight, Luffy doing it cause he needs to end it all fast, and Kaido because he doesn't want anyone spoiling his fun in this fight.

What you said really makes me think, Momonosuke really went through a lot, and he also carries a huge burden (not just Onigashima). He's expected to become Shogun, knows he's very important and can't die, I honestly don't blame him for faltering and having doubts. He's come a long way and he's actually really impressive all things considered. He's still 8 mentally.

Well, it can be a interesting way of others knowing about the story without reaching laugh tale. It would be sort of underwhelming if there is a fight in laugh tale as suddenly impossible island to reach is easily accessible as well as we have waited a long time for it to be chaotic or a joke (Oda could make it work but still). There is still the fact that Luffy being pirate king is less important than freeing the slaves.
Whoo, Woopslap portrait in the background! I think we should keep that up all of the time. Hiyori's betrayal of Orochi was inevitable, and it seemed natural she would want to hide her rage behind a mask when playing a specific song for him. Oh, pay off is glorious when it finally happens.
I think Denjiro’s been doing the same thing he’s done for almost 20 years; protecting Hiyori. I think he’s standing outside the room she and Orochi are in. It would certainly be fitting for Orochi to be brought down by the two of them. As much as everyone in Wano has reason to hate Orochi, they were forced to suffer him for years. Other than maybe Fukurokuju, there was no one Orochi kept closer to himself than Kyoshiro and Komurasaki.

The One Piece is Oda sitting at a desk in the middle of an island and everybody laughed when they saw him because he told him he was the one dictating their life stories and they realized they never had any real freedom at all as pirates.

I like how you can tell Pudding's punch is meant to be comedic because her fist is all rounded and cartoony-looking.
I have to say, it's awfully convenient that the one big detail that wasn't in Oden's journal happens to be what he and Roger found on Laugh Tale... Convenient in a good way, I'm saying, it helps keep the mystery and also prevents Momonosuke and Yamato from telling the Straw Hat Pirates (and by proxy the audience) what it is (as well as presumably the true history of the world and what One Piece is). I do love how Twitter lit up about this detail, and how this increases Yamato's chances of joining the crew, as well as bring up that one chapter with Toki apparently ripping up something Oden gave her, which some fans are speculating is the pages that were in Oden's journal. All intriguing stuff!
I still find it endlessly amusing how the last battle to get resolved before the final Luffy vs. Kaido showdown is freaking Raizo vs. Fukurokuju. Also love that Jimbei showed up to the scene... I love Jimbei. :)
That one CP0 guy said "MAHA" as one of his guys fell to Izo... Is the guy that just fell named "Maha"? Well, they seem to be down for the count either way. I also love how the white-mask guy is all exasperated that the Five Elders just ordered him to "eliminate Straw Hat Luffy immediately", like he's all "Seriously?! You think I can do that right now at this moment?!" Also, Drake seems to be okay, but what will he do now?

I also like that, despite being disowned by Big Mom, Zeus still feels a little sad for her defeat. It makes sense, seeing as she created him.
I hope that brief flashback from Kaido, showing how he first met Big Mom, isn't all we're getting in terms of his backstory this arc, Kaido is still sorely needed of a proper backstory. That being said, I love how Twitter also had a field day with this flashback, not just with how younger Big Mom looks, but also how the close-up of her eyes made people IMMEDIATELY think of Yamato... Which I won't weigh in on. Instead I'll say I think the world at large (and even the fandom to some degree) underestimated just how close Kaido and Big Mom were, despite feuding with each other as Pirate Emperors.
Is Luffy really only going to use Gear 4 for the rest of the fight? I kind of appreciated how he didn't immediately use Gear 4, since it uses a lot of Haki, and how he tried fighting Kaido with Gear 2 and Gear 3. This feels like a desperation move, it makes me wonder what will happen if it won't be enough to finally take Kaido down... I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Ngl I'm a lot more excited for Luffy's awakening than gear 5, and I feel like the awakening is going to come first. It would be cool if gear 5 revolved around the awakened devil fruit.
Gear 5 is probably Luffy's awakening. The Gorosei mentioning Luffy's DF being uniquely different and fearing it's awakening probably means that we will find out what Luffy's DF is WHEN it awakens, and I suspect that to be Gear 5th

No, I think this will happen. We will see gear 5th, kiado will awaken and beat luffy on gear 5th. Then we'll see his awakening. And gear 5th will be elivated because of his awakening

I would love if luffy’s devil fruit awakening is the ability to erase things. Rubber is most well known to erase things, and what if the reason why the name of the fruit has been forgotten about or hidden from knowledge bc maybe the Gomu Gomu no mi’s awakening causes the erasing of… something… concepts? Memories? Ideas? Objects? People? Something? Who knows! But imagine if that is what the awakening of the Gomu Gomu no mi (which yes would break the trend that awakening paramecias allows the user to turn the environment into their fruit, but still imagine if paramecias can also have different types of awakenings since they are such a diverse type of fruit)
They already can do things that dont just turn the environment as seen in kid and laws awakening

As i was reading, i had to keep checking to make sure that it was in fact 18 page, cause it felt like so much more than that. Praise be to Oda for being able to fit that much content into only 18 pages.
Hiyori getting to have her “BENJAMIN BARKER!!!!” moment and Orochi’s poopy-pants reaction was the highlight for the chapter for me
If Luffy's Devil Fruit really *did* have it's name changed to hide what it was, what sort of fruit could it be? It doesn't seem like it's a Logia or Zoan, so it's got to still be Paramecia (which doesn't really narrow it down) and still give his body the properties of rubber. Maybe it's somehow related to his ability to create fire (Red Hawk) and lightning (Thor Elephant Gun) when he shouldn't be able to?
Doesn't the targeting of Luffy by the 5 elders mean that Imu has chosen to extinguish luffy's light? It feels like this is the meaning behind the targeting since Oda likes dropping things that seems like normal but the meaning behind it is massive. What do you think?
Ok im gonna be the one to ask, can we get some sort of collection for all the "cardboard" figures you use to show characters? The Luffy one (where he's sitting down) looks so derpy yet so cool and so cute yet so serious, kinda like he's pondering about which type of meat he's going to eat next, I'd love to have a list of all of them just to look through them. We (at least I) really underestimated Izo. He has a 510 million bounty which was a higher bounty than Luffy got for beating Doflamingo.

To be honest, I am SURPRISED that Liam didn't cover a topic from this chapter. I had actual CHILLS when the elders gave a direct order to Bob Lucci to eliminate Luffy. Not because of 'oh no Luffy is a target' but more so 'This masked man is ACTUALLY CAPABLE of interfering with a battle among 2 "emperors??!??"' This sure made me think of how strong Bob Lucci really is if the elders themselves think that he is strong enough to not just interfere with this great battle but also ELIMINATE one of the world government's BIGGEST threats (if not the biggest) while in the presence of Kaido.... idk if that was just me :)

Just gonna say, even though it was the most unimportant part of the chapter, the cover image of pudding punching Sanji's brothers was a liiiiittle satisfying.

For those of you who keep saying “Gear Fifth” need to stop we are not getting gear fifth this arc because it makes no sense. Luffy gear are transformations he creates not unlocks. If gear fifth were an option he would have used it already.

@@sharkkick2894 "Gear Fifth" could have something to do with awakening? You're making the assumption that Luffy couldn't unlock a power and refer to it as another gear for no reason at all. Even if the particular power isn't another gear, he can integrate it into one. I'm not the biggest fan of that progression but it's entirely possible.

My theory is that luffys fruit isnt just the power of rubber, but the power of pliability or adaptability. Meaning that he can always find some way to adapt to a crisis. Which is a weird power until you consider Darwin from the X men who had the mutation of adapting his body to any stressor inevitably making him unkillable in the comics. Of course that has little crossover, but just a way to explain Luffy's plot armor and how he gets saiyan-like boosts of power during and after every fight.
Think about all of Luffy's transformations and power ups. Everytime he encounters an enemy, he loses but comes back stronger by adapting their techniques. After meeting giants on Little Garden and fighting cp9, luffy imagined a way to create gear 2 and 3. While observing Katakuri he learned how to level up his obs haki to fortune telling status in mere minutes. He is always aware of the boss he needs to fight as soon as he enters a battle. He even defies death from the most horrendous of conditions by sheer will power when it just shouldnt be possible.
Now if that power was something the government thought was long gone - basically the power to change fate itself - then it would be pretty concerning when they realized the power still existed...and was making its way down the new world towards laugh tale. A place that is hiding something that Roger was too early for - because he didnt have the power to adapt to the knowledge or entity or dirty pics he discovered there.
I think you got something mixed up here, Luffy's not above accepting help during the course of his adventure and he even says as much to both Arlong and Lucci. He just does'nt want a free handout that's all, whatever information he get's he wants it to be earned through his crew's hard work. So if say Robin discovered the journal he'd have no issue about it because it would be one of his crew that found it.
There's this line in a panel when Luffy says "this is my last gear attack" so I don't think Luffy is gonna do gear 5 anymore. I place my bet on Luffy's DF awakening before the fight with Kaido ends or maybe against the WG

Actually (in the VIz translation at least), he says that "this is my *final Gear Four* ," which could imply that he may have a higher form available. That said, I'm not to bent on him having another gear, either.

The translation I read was "I'm gonna give gear 4 one last try"

I have big respect for Drake's determination. After getting his cover blown, he's gotten smacked around quite badly. He is completely on his own in this battle, being solo from his affiliation. Therefore, he has no natural loyalties from others to rely on and all his motivation has to come form himself only.
And yet, being beaten half-dead, he finds determination within himself to not only survive or support, but to want to achieve something. I find that admirable, and my liking for Drake has definitely increased after this chapter.
Big Mom's smile in the flashback was very Luffy-esque.
The biggest question this chapter provides is who Oden shared the Journel information with. Toki was always believed to have knowledge on what the missing pages told, but now we have evidence to believe that the Scabbards have this knowledge thanks to what Riazo said

Loved this chapter. I specifically liked how the one panel towards the end of Kaido's inner monologue of big moms past where Luffy is charging to punch him. He almost looked like a different form.
Momotaro legend fullfilled, we saw the pheasant(Marco), the monkey(hikimaru), the dog(Komachiyo), and the kibi dango master(tama the vile)all in one panel. These five shall save the one piece world
10:19 i said something similar with that image in the op discord. he really do be lookin like a demon. almost feels like we’re watching him test ideas for a new gear or start to awaken in some way. considering how we can barely see luffy at all during the hydra attack, that may be on purpose to hide his appearance until we see him again.

It makes me think more of a guardian deity, rather than Sun Wukong, just like Hyogoro said before. I definitely don't expect snakeman to be enough, so something is eventually bound to happen 🤔

honestly, I can see Kaido not being defeated, but actually defending Luffy from CP0. I feel like Kaido is close to see how special Luffy really is and won't let them get to him when he unevitabely passes out after Gear 4 runs out (unless we will get to see some Gear 5 action? )

My opinion on Izo wasn't low before this chapter, but it definitely skyrocketted after it. The two CP-0 members seemed nigh-on unbeatable during the raid, carrying an air of danger around them different from the Flying Six and All-Stars, but seeing Izo square up against both at the same time and taking one down with him really made it clear why he's on the same ballpark as Marco and Ace.
Which would obviously mean a weakned Apoo and X drake are weaker that Marco. Which does make sense

I think something that wasn't mentioned in this review is the flashback that Kaido has where Linlin picks him up when Kaido first joins Rocks and takes him under her wing, declaring her intent to be Pirate king. In addition, Kaido stating that he should've found one piece with Big Mom.
Any thoughts?
I love this little flashback because it reiterates what Big Mom said about her seeing Kaido as a little brother. Shows us how strong Kaido was even at 15. Gives us slightly more info on Rocks. Gives us an idea of just how terrifying the Rocks crew is.

I loved the line that Luffy says about Kaido making the people of Wano starve because at the end of the day that's what Luffy is fighting for
Now that we are leaning towards the legendary devil fruit the old geezers reference being the gomu gomu no mi, I have a new theory for Luffy's awakening. The awakened gomu gomu allows the user to change what size they are (like ant man in avengers). He can stretch on command to any size he wants. To hide the fact that this is essentially a "giant-giant fruit" or "grow-grow fruit", they renamed it to be based on rubber so that it isn't as obvious that you can become a giant if you eat that fruit. We know the world government is obsessed with giants. Perhaps in the past they have tried to get someone to use this ability, but no-one who has eaten it affiliated with the world government has been able to awaken the giant transformation. Perhaps after giving up, they then tried to find other ways to create giants (looking at you CC!)
why was he immune to enel's lightning?
@@LCPFrederick this is with out a doubt the largest hurdle to get over for the legendary fruit to be the gomu gomu no mi. Like what different fruit power would also grant Luffy immunity to lightning? No easy way to explain for sure.
Also have to point out, momo was accredited with bringing about the dawn of the new world, perhaps we got it wrong, perhaps Luffy is not joy boy, perhaps it is momo? I mean, that would be a fantastic twist, but I'm not sure I'd be super happy with it if that happened..
