I feel like Ace is more like Raditz. They both ended up a doughnut and died with their brothers holding them.
To be fair, if observation Haki wasnt a thing, Kid might have done some serious damge to Shanks and his crew.
We saw in Shanks' vision of the future that Kids giant railgun thing was going to absolutely wreck the Red Hair pirates.
This caused Shanks to act way more aggressively than he usually does, annihilating Kid and his crew before Kid could complete his weapon.
That isnt something to scoff at, its not as though Shanks saw Kid as some insignificant threat that his crew could handle. Shanks saw Kid as enough of a threat where he felt that he had to personally go out and destroy Kid. If the strongest character in the series feels you are a big enough threat to personally defeat you, that is a huge compliment.
If Luffy lost to Shanks, I doubt anyone would say Luffy was weak or mid. Losing to the best is only something very skilled and talented people can say. The guy who lost to Phelps each year was a phenomenal swimmer, losing to the best in the world doesnt change that.

Exactly, while I'm not sure if shanks is the strongest rn /will be the strongest character by the time of the final arc, since he is definitely like mihawk in that the longer the series goes on the stronger he seems to be. Him and mihawk are clearly two of THE strongest in the series and the fact that Shanks viewed Kidd as a threat that he had to take care of immediately shows just how powerful he is. The future sight speaks for itself
Sometimes the One Piece comunity realy sounds like Kaido, Judge, or Mingo: Strength is everything. It doesn't matter how big your dreams are and how hard you try. If you fail, you are trash. Never giving up in the face of impossible odds is just pathatic.
Kidd sails the grand line, is one of the big players in the new World. He challanges the Emperors costantly, without going back to paradise to search for powers outside of his own. He even won against one in direct combat. At one point his crew was one of the 5 closest to actually finding the One Piece. He adrersses Luffy as an equal. (like Luffy did to Whitebeard)
I mean he is a terrible person and pobebly shares a brain cell with Luffy and Zoro, but he is a great Pirate by One Piece standards.

There was no way he would hand over his ponegliffs and he would never run away from a fight (him fighting kaido alone proves that) so when Shanks uses future sight and sees the destruction Kid makes he has to be serious and go for a killing blow. You know while Kid has many flaws, I think there one aspect that many tend to overlook about him. He is actually a fantastic robotics engineer. No I am serious. Despite his always attack strategy, he is really precise with his magnet powers to a fine degree. To the point that he knows the exact specifications, wiring, and servos that goes into a fully functional machinery. Anyone one magnet powered person could simply bend metal, lift it or throw through magnetic control, but it takes another to individually place pieces of scrap metal together then refine them into prosthetic arms, giant robotic bulls, floating spiked skull mechs, or a freaking wave motion gun that actually works! Again he does all this by instinct alone, and usually on the fly. So while he is a mostly straightforward kind of guy, he does have actual skill. If only he was not so stubborn. Then again if he wasn’t then he would not be Eustass Kid.
There's no question that he maybe the shipwright for his crew.

yeah, Eustass Kid does have a lot of potential as a robotics engineer. His ability to manipulate metal with his magnetic powers is very precise, and he has a good understanding of how machines work. He has also shown that he is able to design and build complex machines, such as the wave motion gun.
If Kid were to focus on his engineering skills instead of fighting, he could be very successful. He could use his powers to help people in a variety of ways, such as building prosthetic limbs or creating new technologies.
However, Kid is a very stubborn and impulsive person, and he is often more interested in fighting than anything else. This is a shame, because he has a lot of potential to do great things.
It is possible that Kid will one day realize that he can use his powers for good instead of evil. If he does, he could make a real difference in the world.
In the meantime, we can still appreciate his engineering skills, even if he uses them for destructive purposes. Kid is a talented engineer, and it is always fascinating to see what he will come up with next.

As I said before somewhere, Eustass Kidd is a main character without the main character plot armor. He is basically Luffy if you take away the protagonist perks. Like,
- Both are idiots who keep challenging those who are CLEARLY stronger than them in both raw power and army size
- Both lost to their targets, several times even
- Both care about their goal first, and crew safety later.
So Eustass Kidd is basically a blunt example of "you are not the chosen one"

@@samotherly "purpose" doens't change that the comparison makes sense. Eren's language is violence, that's the only way he knows how to respond from his childhood up until adulthood. Kidd is the same way. "purpose" is irrelevant, the comparison is that both their language is violence and that remains true. In some cases Eren can choose to run away or take the high ground. Being picked on as a kid? He chooses to FIGHT them, this informs almost every major reaction/action his character takes throughout the story. That's what I believe.
So one thing I would like to hear more of (you mentioned it briefly) is the parallels between 'Kid's Elbaf' and 'Luffy's Sabaody' (and 'Law's Winner Island');
Each captain run into an opponent that they were not ready for and were defeated so decidedly that the narrator steps in, fully breaking the forth wall, to tell us, the reader. that they were defeated.
The only difference between Luffy's defeat, and Kid's ( and Law's) defeat, is that Luffy was defeated a lot earlier in his story, and has had two years to grow from the experience. Kid and Luffy (and Law) have always been reflections of each other in a lot of ways, and I would argue that Kid's (and Law's) defeat were critical steps that they must now experience if they want any chance of reaching the same heights that Luffy has.

Kidd definitely was strong, but like in the end, the only reason why he got defeated instantly afer getting his 3B bounty is his own personality. Which led to Shanks inevitably one shotting his ship and him.

Never understood why people hyped Kid up so much. He never actually accomplished anything aside from becoming a supernova and he mostly accomplished that by killing civilians. I also ind of outgrew the whole "Never give up" trope. Sometimes you need to admit defeat and learn from your mistakes. If Kid does come back, i hope he comes back smarter rather than JUST stronger.

I get it’s a meme at this point but I never understood the genuine hate for kidd. He started out with the highest bounty, has probably the most loyal crew member on par with Zoro (killer might even be more loyal) refused to bitch down to kaido like the two other supernovas did and helped take down a freaking yonko. Literally .000001% of pirates can admit a feat on that level. Even if it was tag teaming with law that’s a crazy feat in its self and cements him in the history books. Shanks also recognized his threat level and used a pirate king attack on him all while after losing his arm. Pretty high praise compared to most new age pirates besides luffy

I agree with you on Luffy's life being shaped for glory and i can mention another important character that people might forgot about his role on helping Luffy and i'm talking here about Jimbei , he was there for him in his weakest moment , he was able to rescue him from being killed by Akainu and he did rescue him from his sadness , i don't know if we can see Luffy became what he is if he didn't have him in those moments.

Okay I like Kidd alot (idk why dont ask) so I feel like i have to defend him.
1. About his "Brutality": In Sabaody we learned he doesnt just go and kill civilians for no reason, he kills the ones who make fun of his dream, I dont know how people take this as just a brutal mindless killler, he's just an agressive Luffy if Shanks didnt teach him the "not all fights are worth fighting"
2. Oda did his Best in Wano and post-Wano to show us that Kidd and Law are THE EXACT SAME LEVEL, but people like clowning on him ( I get it , it's fun), but if you actually believe they're not the same strength you're just objectivley wrong.
3. Yea his Haki seems to be just unconscience, he knows haki exists and he uses it sometimes, but be he never trained it. This might be cope but i think he'll get some training next time we see him, yea he's never gonna be an actual rival or contender for Pirate King, but I dont think he deserves so much hate, the dude got to Wano, fought and took down a Yonko ( half a Yonko?), he deserves some respect I think
4. Most hate i see is about his personality, not gonna defend that, just wanna say that he's insanley similar to Luffy, goes into battles he cant win without learning his lesson, the only difference is he's not the main Character. He didnt have a Shanks, Dragon (in Loguetown), Rayleigh, Kuma to help him get here, Luffy wouldn't have even reached the Grand Line if Dragon didnt help him.

Kid is like rock Lee from Naruto. He is everything the main character claims to be: no incarnation of Jesus (Naruto luffy) worked hard without free powerups, always against the biggest odds and never gives up, his family tree is pretty normal (as far as we know) meaning he not genetically the best to ever exist, he’s nerved on top (very bad at haki like Lee was an nin and gen jutsu) and overall he just some dude who made it really really far for what he had

Naruto didn't claim to be exactly lee. Also kis is veeery different lee. In part because he had a mentor.
When your video came out about the chapter of Kid v Shanks, I stated that Kid's role is that of Vegeta from DBZ. I stand by it. Vegeta's pride clouds his judgement and can only understand things in terms of power and violence. It takes a warrior from the lower class to knock some sense into Vegeta. After his first fight with Goku, vegeta starts to realize that he can't get stronger alone, fighting for someone creates real strength within someone. Kid will probably have these same realizations when we see him again and we will see him again.
The problem is kidd isn't losing to the lower class. Nor does he have vegeta elitism.
I like kid he has a fun power and is basically the vegeta of OP, his recklessness and fearless bravado is enjoyable especially paired with how he uses his fruit
Actually I respect Kidd, he is the only great pirate who isn't a D, who don't have famous ancestor or sensei who taught him to be strong but he manages to become one of the strongest pirate in the current world so he deserves respect

Brown sugar may not be at the dinner table but it can be at the breakfast table if you're eating oatmeal. That's Kid's entire problem, he arrived too late to be part of the feast that is the One Piece final arc.

Not a kid fan but I disagree with most of the video I think kid was more irreplaceable in the fight against big mom than law, I know readers like law more but if you read that fight again ODA was putting kid in the forefront more than law, even law acknowledged this

Sometimes I think that Kid and Ace are similar to each other, Ace had this untapped potential no mentor to refined his techniques no haki, there fighting-style are similar, didn’t have an inherited will, both had a chip on there shoulders, they had the same no-name crew number. And both only became interesting after they were both gone
I think I figured Kidd out. He’s symbolically the novice headstrong kid pirate that had no place “playing pirates.” He’s also the antitheses to Luffy in how he handles conflicts.
"Expectations were never high" is honestly selling short how strong Kidd was in Wano. He was a one-man unit, getting tortured by Basil Hawkins WHILE fighting an Emperor of the sea.
He was a clear underdog and it sucks that Oda is tossing him out now like this. He was my least favorite of the Trio as well, but what's really to be expected when his personality matches the personality of a minor side-villain in an East Blue arc, all bravado and no wisdom versus the main character Luffy and the fan favorite Law? It didn't help that he looked like a clown thanks to his face, which made him look like a Punk versions of Buggy.

He chose to eat the fruit, not knowing it was a DF. He trained for many years on his own to learn how to use it. He gathered his crew through strength of character and by beating their enemies up with his own hands. The Gum Gum fruit doesn't give him strength, it gives him stretch. He earned Reliegh's respect as well as the respect of the others who aided him. They didn't help because he was Luffy, they did it cuz Luffy was 'him' "Ivory tower" a tower he built himself with his own hands.
He literally says beforehand luffy still did work hard for his current power.
Kidd has some of the best lines in the series. Oda wanting to hype Shanks to ridiculous highs is the reason for his downfall. There is no reason not to use that moment to show both characters' abilities.

I remember when the Eleven Supernovas were introduced, and Oda was kind of expecting Eustass Kid to be the most popular one and had him temporarily team up with Luffy to set them up as rivals (and I guess for good measure also have Law there too). It feels like Kid never fully lived up to the potential Oda supposedly saw in him. :(

I didn't even need to click the video before saying to myself 'Ah good, Liam made a video about Kid, That's more attention than Oda's Given him.'
Considering this is One Piece where characters seemingly bit the dust turned out to be okay, Kidd and his crew are rescued from the sea and wrapped up in chains where they're surrounded by Red-Hair Pirates and their friends from Elbaf and subordinate crews partying together.
To be honest, I still like Kid on the same level as I did in Sabaody. Sadly, he got to cocky after defeating Big Mom on top of he tenacity for violence. He needed Law's help, he only just got his awakened powers which weren't fully mastered at the time, and he was facing a emperor on the sea which could lead to him being fell into the sea and drowning. But we will see he again because of his stubborn attitude, and plot armour. He's the same character archatype as Vegeta (DBZ) and Endeavour (MHA). So it's possible that he gets a grand ending to his story. For example, his real life counterpart, Captain William Kidd, was hanged for execution. If he does die, let it him die a legend.
Kid reminds me of someone who never backs down despite the fact that he for all purposes should. Also in regards to his backstory it reminds me a bit of what happened to the Phantom Troupe in Hunter X Hunter just less severe. I think while he is not done in the story overall he may be done in the race to Laughtale.
In Courage the Cowardly Dog, Eustace Bagg's name is a play on "useless bag of shit". Because of that, Eustass Kid has always been synonymous with "useless kid" to me.
I agree with this video almost completely. I do think there’s more to kid even starting that fight with shanks in the first place. Kid’s only interaction with them before lost him an arm and after the events of Wano his judgment got skewed. I completely believe that Kid thought he had no way out and fighting desperately was his only choice.
Also side note: I know people shit on kid for “not knowing shanks would be there” but he saw the ship completely just didn’t know shanks was so fast and could catch him off guard so easily. Seriously I feel that jab is just pointless and kicking a guy while he’s down

Personally, I expected Kid to be English, because of the many references to British punk rock, including one of his crewmates who's name is literally "UK". I seriously never understood people who always hate characters for failing, not doing anything or I don't know how else I would describe e.g. Kid's situation. I love him as a character. Why should I hate him just because he got defeated or whatever? He's there to make the world more immersive and I am here for it. Not everybody needs a purpose or needs to do something crazy. It's more realistic this way. Most of the people in our world also just wake up to go to work for their whole lives and then they pass away, that's life.

I doubt that anyone will read this, but this video just put to words something about OP that I've been saying for so long! This concept of intergenerational relationships is why the OP world feels so "lived in". One of the reasons why Luffy is my favorite protag is the fact that he brings people together to fight for themselves instead of being the "hero" who comes in and fixes everything. As much as I enjoyed the live-action, everyone kept repeating "Luffy is all about dreams." And while that isn't exactly false, Luffy is so much more than bull-headed dream-seeking. Inherited will is such an integral part of the OP storyline and it reflects the fact that the world isn't fair. We all need positive role models, mentors, and forefathers who blazed the trail for us. And we need to know that all of our actions set up our next generation to come. This is when people use nepotism as an argument for why they will always be victims unless they tear down all institutions, because cLeArly it's completely the fault of the system. But what is the other main theme of OP? Found family! Connect yourself with other succesful people, learn from mentors, be teachable! Every culture has its issues, but one thing that Asian cultures have done well is to think generationally. Families often continue living together and support each other in their different roles. Japanese companies have 100 year plans. A sad and moral-less generation is the one that tears down the past. They don't know who they are because they forgot where they came from. Life might not have treated you well, and you might have to be the first one in your entire family line to make something of yourself. But your one decision could be what sets up hundreds of generations to come. Find your "family". Luffy's "dreams" aren't just do whatever you feel like. You need to do the work. He waited for Nami to ask, he made Robin say it herself, he made Momo ask him for help. Every single time, Luffy makes the people he helps do their part to fight to be free and prove that they have the will to stay free. This Is Luffy's greatest ability.

Kid exemplifies each of these traits and could be at least one of them. And I know that it could of beeb imprinted on his left bicep. But he lost it in his first fight with Shanks during the two year time skip. Plus, in Sabaody. Kid always war his coat/cape over his left arm so that the audience couldn't see his bicep. And when he decided to fight Shanks again after the Wano arc. He decided to use his new move Dammed Punk. Which had 'Punk 07' written on the barrel.
• His overall character design and Devil Fruit power could based off the victorian punk events mostly common in the United Kingdom. In fact, is ship is literally named Punk Victoria/Victoria Punk.
• His crewmate and right-hand, Killer, wears a mask similar to the head/helmet of Punk 01: Shaka(Good). Which most fans think his based off the famous french music group Daft Punk.
• During the end credits of the non canon movie, Film: Z. There was an image of Kid as a child with a wrench in one hand, and in the other a self-made toy robot. The image itself is non canon as well. But think about it, this could be the link to Kid being Vegapunk's relative/creation. And it was a hinted way back in 2012/2015. I can't remember when exactly this film hit the cinemas.
• The start of the Egghead Island arc. When Punk 02, Lilith(Evil) was attempting to steal from the Strawhats at sea. She used 8 specific mechanical sea beasts to surround the ship that the head specific treat resembling the Satellites. Including, Stella (Original Dr. Vegapunk). And one of them also had specific trade that look like Kid. It had a red mayne and black horns. Kind of small easter egg there.
• After Trafalgar Law was beaten by Blackbeard. He was in critical condition. Sounds of assume that he's either bing left out of the story for a while, or been killed off. So it would be natural for Kid to replies his role in the story for a while. Plus I assumed that something like this would happen after Wano. Because of the amount of time that Law has had with the Strawhats. Plus, by the end of Dressrosa. We pretty much covered Law's backstory, motivation, and potential. Imagine if we got the same for Kid in the next arc or so after Egghead Island. His popularity will probably rival Law's. So having a connection with a important figure like Vegapunk increases the value of him in the story.

Im actually hoping Kid has an awakening similarly to Barou from Blue Lock, realizing he isnt enough on his own and is better off being the side character to someone else’s story, but then saying fuck that and becoming even more selfish, using others’ strengths to compensate for his weaknesses and enhance his own talents and skills.
I know people hate on Kidd because it's fun, but Luffy was just as useless for most of the series. I actually think Kidd has more willpower than Luffy in some instances.
When luffy "lost" his crew at Sabaody, he cried and was gonna give up until Jinbei talked him out of it. And people can speculate what would have happened if Jinbei wasn't there, but it's a fact that Luffy was down bad and ready to give up.
Kidd was preparing to take on a Yonko without having a possible top 20 strongest character of all time to train him for two years (Luffy had Rayleigh), and when he got betrayed he still said he'd rather die than surrender.
I think people look passed all of the help Luffy has gotten and how many times he's been saved by allies or spared by enemies. Literally the only reason the Strawhats have lasted this long is because Luffy is likeable and has inherited will that makes people want to follow him.
Almost every arc Luffy would've been defeated if the main villain would have tried to kill him outright like Shanks did Kidd and when the villain did try to kill Luffy he just bounced back because of plot.

Kidd’s role was as a foil to Luffy then to get Shanks the info he needed to go after the one piece.
The only thing that bothers me is that people make all this weird moralizing for Shanks. Shanks gave him a unreasonable (to Kidd) ultimatum, defeated him, stole his stuff, then killed him and his men after they surrendered. That is pretty pirate stuff.
Shanks is a pirate, he is a killer and interestingly in One Piece he is a crusher of other people’s dreams. Sure he is affable and pretty patient but he isn’t the amazing cool saint that Luffy thought he was. Shanks has a edge to him, and he is ruthless when pushed. At the end of the day he will take other people’s stuff and kill them which is fine but I just hate how people do mental gymnastics to try and paint him as some white knight when he is completely a pirate.
