    Fellow defy user here. I started with cherry reds, ended up switching a few weeks ago to kailh speed coopers; imo, after trying mx cherry reds, blues and browns with other keyboards, the kailh speed coopers are my favorites, I might even lube them. Other keyboards feel like crap now, I can still go back to staggered if I need to. The only contender this has right now is the glove80, both have their pros/cons (low profile switches and concavity vs lights and modularity); I'd give the glove 80 a shot if I had money to waste, but I'm really happy with going with the Defy instead of a Moonlander/Ergodox/Kinesis/etc. If anyone wants to go the ergonomic way, it's either between those 2 -they are the S tier of the ergo keyboards. Try adding delete to the thumb cluster, it may take time to re-adapt, but it's worth it.

    Thank you so much for the review!
    For the problem with shortcuts, the way to go is layers, as you mention. For example, a layer where UI, JK and M, are () [] {} is really useful. You just "shift" to that layer temporarily. It's like pressing "shift" or "alt" but configurable 😅

    it kinda looks like the keyboard is giving you the middle finger

      @AivarsMeijers  2 місяці тому

      Oh, it's definitely doing when I'm trying to figure out how to hit shortcuts on it 😅
      Sorts out I don't know them, my fingers know where they were on a regular keyboard.

    I’m using Mistel Barocco for two years and I like it because it’s a split with a traditional layout - I don’t have energy to learn a completely different layout, and I still use other (more normal keyboards) from time to time, so it would mean switching between different layouts.

    • @AivarsMeijers
      @AivarsMeijers  2 місяці тому

      Switching back to the regular keyboard is not hard, but yeah, the new layout took a bit of time to learn.

    very nice video . i wonder if this keyboard will be your mind driver daily or you are going to switch back to normal mechanical keyboards ?

      Shortcuts and some key positions feels tricky for programming. So, I don't know for sure. That's a bit like a love / hate relationship when I'm programming.

    The price of this keyboard is completely out of this world! I had the opportunity to try it out for a short time at my friend's place. He had it for about a month and stopped using it because of the horrible layout. Switching between programmed key layouts is also out. When programming, you need to focus on code and not thinking about on which layout you have some key or shortcut. If you learn to type well on this keyboard and then you're forced to start working in a different environment, you'll have a hard time learning to type again. I will rather use ergonomic mechanical keyboard with clasical layout for half price.

      I see your point and you are not wrong, but part of the users choosing ergonomic keyboards to fix the pain they have typing on regular keyboards.
      Agree about unnecessary complication to access symbols and arrow keys

    Long time sub and keyboard enthusiast; always love seeing you review new keyboards on the channel. Been a developer for nearly 25 years and have tried to switch to splits and ergonomic keyboards too many times to count. In my mid-to-late 40s now, and I’ve kind of given up on ever making the transition.
    If I can give young devs any advice, do whatever you can to prevent pain down the road. It’s a cliche to be young and think “that’ll never happen to me.” It will, and it’s not fun. Since my other hobbies involve playing guitar, gaming, painting, and all the things you do with your hands, it makes life difficult.
    Learn better typing habits now!

    Hi Aivars I have a question for you, I started to earn $20 per month as an indie developer, it's a small step, do you advertise at first for this app to grow that I'm curious about? I don't want to throw the money away because I have a very limited budget, what can you recommend is it to make 1000$ MMR organically (without advertising) to grow the new app?

    • @AivarsMeijers
      @AivarsMeijers  2 місяці тому

      I doubt ads will help a lot, especially if the budget is small.
      I would try content marketing and ASO

      Yeah, that's not handy at all. I'm using them a lot to jump to the end of the work or string, page up, etc. This and shortcuts making me to go back to the regular keyboard.

      😂 your wife is right, you can stick with kettlebel
      Unlikelly I would buy this or any other split keyboards after my expierience with illy 58, but this one feels much better.
      Anyways, writing this on MB keyboard, which still is most used from my keyboards.
