I am 96 and when I was young our shortcake biscuits were always opened and slathered with soft butter before adding berries fist and then whipped cream. Give it a try.
None of your recipes, John, have failed to turn out scrumptious, but Lachlan most definitely convinced me this one is a must for tonight’s dessert. Hubby and daughter brought in a giant bowl of strawberries from the backyard…our first BIG harvest this season. Wish me luck!
Amazing! Much love from Pakistan! Edit: I made this delicious recipe, It was an absolutely amazing and creamy, keep up the good work! Your son is also really handsome!
I made this as my final project for home economics class in high school. It was beautiful, but I used table spoons instead of teaspoons for the salt so it tasted awful. I would love to revisit this using your recipe
Your recipes have never steered me wrong! Always delicious and easy to follow. Love your tutorials, they are always perfect and love all the helpful tips and tricks along the way!
I made this strawberry shortcake and it’s so good! It’s my favorite dessert of all time now! It tastes so refreshing with the strawberries so perfect for the summer season.
For the best shortcake, the most of the berries should be macerated with tons of sugar to bring out their juices. The juices absorb into the biscuits and it is sooo good. Save a few sliced berries for garnish but mash up the rest with sugar and let them sit for a few hours.
Coming from Minnesota we are MONTHS away from a truly decent strawberry shortcake…but I have 100% saved this for that time! Love it. I watch every video of yours with my son and daughter. We all want to be “baker guys” as they refer to you lol!!
Thank you all for the help. I tend to waste buttermilk when I buy it only for baking, but I always keep milk in my fridge. It's lactose free milk, though, and 2% 🤔
@@thedreamer215 That's why I stopped buying buttermilk. I'd use a cup and the rest would go bad. I'm not sure if the vinegar technique will work in your situation, but give it a try. If the milk curdles a few minutes after adding the vinegar, it's probably a go!
but, he said they mean the same thing... now I'm wondering if the reason why it's so obvious to me that they're not the same thing, is cause english is my second language...
Thank you for the recipe 🥰. I'm very excited to attempt to make my mom another strawberry shortcake for her birthday/mother's day. I definitely feel more confident trying this recipe than i did when i first baked her a cake like 10 or so years ago. One thing i have definitely learned for sure, though, is assemble the strawberry shortcake at her house when its time to be served. Last time i assembled everything at my apartment and then traveled over an hour to get to my mom's place 🙈😅. It was melted and messy by the time i arrived. These look delicious, so I'm really looking forward to trying this recipe 😍.
I was in my early twenties when I tried the first time, and my mom was sweet. Even though the cake was a mess, she appreciated the gesture, and she said she actually enjoyed the type of cake. Some places give you strawberry shortcake with a regular cake base or spongecake base, and my mom prefers the biscuit base. I agree with her and prefer the biscuit base as well. When I worked at Cracker Barrel, that's how we served our strawberry shortcakes. Any cake is good for me, though. I just appreciate all of the sweets 😋
YAY!! Thank you, I love biscuit strawberry shortcake. I made some one time. I didn't know it was whipped cream as filling so I used cream cheese, it still tastes delicious.😋🥰💗💗💗
Mannn I made these for my family for Father’s Day. It was killer!! Literally!! After a filling dinner I gave my whole family food coma 😂 But it was most enjoyable. Very successful desert, Thank You 🙏
Your son is getting so tall! You and Brian must be proud of your twins! And I'm off to try this recipe, as I have a ton of strawberries thank you!🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓🍓
Cannot wait to try! Looks much better than my traditional Betty Crocker recipe. Buttermilk, egg and sugar on top are going to take it over the top! As a seasoned cook, I still appreciate your explanations of why you do things a certain way. You are very fun to watch and I could just eat your son up! What a cutie!
I jus wanted to say Thank you for your recipes , I genuinely love seeing that notification pop up with new recipes from you! It’s so relaxing and fun to watch! A close loved one of mine passed away recently, and one of our favourite things was to sit on the couch together and watch ur videos and plan future recipes! I even bought one of ur books to read with her! Sadly we never had the time to do one of the recipes of the book together , but I still plan on making stuff from ur book! Thankyou very much for ur content to have those memories^^
Can you use a cheese grater on the butter to break it up into little pieces, vs cutting it into cubes with a knife and further breaking it down smaller by hand? 🙂
Love every video can’t stop watching you lol 😅I am getting ready to make these myself I just don’t know the temperature for the oven and bake for how long??
This looks so good I've tried a few of your recipes and they are all so good could you maybe try making salted caramel brownies one day my sister keeps asking me to make some 😓
I'd like any more info you could give about forming these in advance, freezing, and then baking. *Should they go straight from the freezer bag to the oven or should they rest a little before baking? *Apparently you don't adjust the cooking temp. Is 2-3 minutes more for time about right? *Is there any chance this will affect the baking powder & baking soda? Thanks.
Hi John could you please show us how to make the Japanese Whip Topping Strawberry Cake that cost a fortune at the bakery. Thank you in advance for all of your tutorials 💖 I made your Creme, Brulee, and that turned out delicious!

Also grating cold butter with a cheese grater works amazing
You place your desserts so perfectly so! Beautiful dessert! I can’t wait to try this mouth watering recipe.
I made this strawberry shortcake and it’s so good! It’s my favorite dessert of all time now! It tastes so refreshing with the strawberries so perfect for the summer season.
Lachlan is such a gem, and I love how you always elevate your cooking by maintaining wit, kindness, friendliness, and all around skilL!
I add a touch of orange juice and vanilla and its so amazing.
In this type of application, I grate my fresh out of the freezer butter using a box grater that’s also been in the freezer for a few hours.
This is similar to a scone but without the raisins or sultanas, this is a staple for an English afternoon tea! Love your recipes
Gonna make these in the AM. Your son has grown up so much. So sweet. My son loves cooking as well. He is 8.
I had to go back and compare this recipe to your two other shortcake videos. This looks to be the best of the 3.
This is such a pretty version. And I love all of your educational information -- love it!
I’ve made a Japanese strawberry shortcake. It was delicious.
Omg. These turned out so good and delish! My family loved them. Thank you for always making it so easy!

Great timing on the video! The strawberry farmers just started showing up at the local farmers market here. I know what I'll be making this weekend! 🍓
What an adorable son you have, and the strawberry shortcake looked good too!!
Now I want strawberry shortcake. ❤️
right?!
🍽🍰🍓
These biscuits are the best; thank you for all your tips! We served the strawberry shortcake to our guests this weekend and they raved about them.
Coming from Minnesota we are MONTHS away from a truly decent strawberry shortcake…but I have 100% saved this for that time! Love it. I watch every video of yours with my son and daughter. We all want to be “baker guys” as they refer to you lol!!

I am on my own weight loss journey, but I do love baking ideas ❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉
He's so well spoken and bigger than the last time we saw him!
I added a little bit of lemon zest to my less than perfect strawberries when I tried this, and it was fantastic!!! I'll be doing this from now on!
What a fresh, simple dessert ! Thank you for this. I will make this with my sad strawberries 😂
Came out perfect. Thanks for the recipe! Always on point
I love strawberry shortcake. Yours is so inviting, yum.
Thank you!
I don't buy buttermilk anymore, I make it myself: measure out regular milk and add a splash of vinegar to it. After it curdles, you've got buttermilk.
Or a little bit lemon juice….
My Mom always did that for waffles.
Why thank you

My first thought was 'quickly' and 'briefly' meant the same thing, too! But then I realized they don't and you were right all along. 🤣❤
but, he said they mean the same thing... now I'm wondering if the reason why it's so obvious to me that they're not the same thing, is cause english is my second language...
I see one as speed and the other as duration 😊

Will definitely try this recipe. Your a great dad John 👍
As someone with arthritis, I have found using a metal bench scraper to cut cold butter works a bit easier for my hands.
Thank you for the tip, I will give that a try myself!
Wow this is beautiful and delicious, I wish I can have a taste of it now ,thanks
Hi John, wow, they look incredible……Lachlan is growing fast! xx❤xx

In future i want to try and make all preppy kitchen recipes. My favorite home chef❤
Quickly means fast and briefly means for a short amount of time. You were correct.
I made these today and they were DELICIOUS! 🍓 Thank you 😊
I love everything you make. Cute son!
Love it, so yummy. Lachlan is cute.
Hey John! Can you do vanilla cookies next please? Or blueberry cupcakes?❤
Mannn I made these for my family for Father’s Day. It was killer!! Literally!! After a filling dinner I gave my whole family food coma 😂 But it was most enjoyable. Very successful desert, Thank You 🙏

That looks SO good!
Looks so yummy 😋
You are so adorable to watch. Thanks for the good videos.
Tolles Rezept 🎉
We also use double cream yogurt instead of the buttermilk. Gives a slightly tart taste 👌
Please make a recipe on chocolate chip muffins. Love your videos John!
Would you happen to know if I need to make any adjustments for higher elevation? These look amazing and I'd love to try them out 😊
Can you use a cheese grater on the butter to break it up into little pieces, vs cutting it into cubes with a knife and further breaking it down smaller by hand? 🙂

I love using the food processor. Would grated butter affect the fluffiness? Or is your method required for rhe texture.
Блин, мужик, классные рецепты, мне нравится твоя подача
Wonderful recipe! And Lacklan is getting so big!!!!
It's Finn Ashowan from The House Witch!
