- We install Akebono Sport Brakes off a 370Z/ G37 on to Spectre (our 2006 Enthusiast 350Z). We use Z1 Motorsports caliper bracket and brake master cylinder adaptor to achieve a solid brake pedal feel. This upgrade will also work on the Infiniti G35.
The sport brakes for the 370Z and G37 developed by Akebono are a fantastic big brake setup for people on a budget. They are proven to perform well and are very durable. The best part is they are an OEM part to finding parts at your local parts store or dealer is much easier than a typical performance brake application.
This video only shows the installation of the hardware. Bleeding the brakes will be shown in a separate video.
Here is a write up on the install by twin001 on www.my350z.com: my350z.com/forum/brakes-and-s...

Hey man just wanted to say thanks for making this made my install go way easier
So glad the video helped you!
I’m saving this. Doing this soon. Thanks for the video man. 👍🏼
I hope it was detailed enough
I been waiting for this !
Hope it helps you
I skipped the hassle and bought a track model with the brembo from factory! Very cool to see that they provide an aftermarket option for the other models!
The Brembo package is decent
@@AnthonyJ350 I’m a fan! I have the 06 track, I recently did pads and rotors and took the opportunity to do the stainless braided flex line as well. I love the stiffer pedal feeling.
I will also take this opportunity to thank you for the quality and detailed videos about the Z, I used your channel for education and reference while in the market to buy mine. I appreciate your work!
@@matto5547 Thanks so much for sharing that! Nice to know when videos help. Have you seen our video on the Z1 brake booster brace?
You really should upgrade your Brembo’s for the Akebono kit lol
cool and helpful video. Did you use all the same lines?
Yes we used the same aftermarket brake lines we previously put on the vehicle
Did you use the same caliper bolts? I tried to re use my stock one piston bolts for the backs and they didn’t work... by the way great job explaining everything!
Thanks! I used the hardware that came with the used calipers.
Cool video. The only thing I would change are the dust boots on the bleeder value. Looks like they were painted red, my OCD can't stop thinking about it lol.
Ya I will change them. The caliper paint looked better if I just painted them because masking the bleeder was a pain. I figure it's just easier to get new rubber caps lol. Good eye noticing that!
thanks for the video. I just wanted to see how big the akebono calipers are and how they fit onto the rotors. I was looking at the wilwood 6 piston 14 inch brakes and it looks like the rotor surface area is quite small around the outer edge and the hat is quite huge so it seems almost bogus to call it a big brake kit when the caliper Pistons are quite small. so I am going to go with the akebono. instead of the wilwood. although I am getting the lightweight Z1 two-piece rotors.
Thanks for watching.
I hope this will fit on my oem rays! Doing this soon Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching! Let us know how it works out.
You all probably dont give a damn but does anybody know a way to get back into an Instagram account?
I somehow lost my login password. I would appreciate any help you can offer me
@Stefan Davion instablaster ;)
@Huxley Mitchell thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and im trying it out now.
Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Huxley Mitchell it did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my ass !
Ohhhh. Ive been thinking about this kit. Concept Z has them aswell. Was thinking if OEM ones or these. BUt OEM Brembo would look stock. Also time for new wheels lol
As long as concept Z it's a one piece bracket. Depending how you finish the calipers will determine if it looks stock. These are Nissan parts we put on.
LilSaint001100 I really liked the Z1 kit fwiw. With the OEM Rays it has so much of a “fuller” look. Side note that the exact same infiniti branded calipers are - for a reason I cannot explain - are exactly the same but cheaper.
Ok I'm glad I found this video because my mechanic had to eliminate my parking brake on my m37x to make the big brake kit work but I want my Parming brake to work so I need new big rotors with the diameter of my stock rotors?
Ya the drum size seems to vary. What car did your rear rotors come off of?
@@AnthonyJ350 a 2013 G37
I also have vossen’s
19x8.5 in the fronts was wondering what exactly you did to notify the fronts shops aren’t to familiar with the shortening valve stems wanted to know more as I have the same issue with my valve stem hitting the caliper thanks man!
If you watch the end of the video I had flush mount valve stems installed to clear the caliper.s
@@AnthonyJ350 did the same
I installed the Akebono kit on my G35 about a year ago and noticed the brakes are a bit squishy until the pads heat up. To a certain degree I don't mind it, but I'll ask anyway: With the master cylinder adapter install do you find that the feedback is touchy at onset or does it still maintain the factory feel?
With the master cylinder brace the feel is immediately more positive
AnthonyJ350 thanks dude, now to adjust the budget for this month...
@@ScylockeX Make sure the engine is running when you bleed the brakes as well. The pump needs to be active to bleed it properly. That's coming from Nissan.
AnthonyJ350 interesting note. I definitely did not do that but just gravity bled the whole thing in the order my Haynes manual mentioned. If I find it lacking after the brace it may be worth the effort. Thanks for the note and keep it up with the videos; you are very thorough and easy to understand. These types of videos are a boon for those of us who want to do our own work but have an informed guide along the way.
I am looking forward to swap g37 fronts on my i30.
Let us know how it goes
Currently installing Z1 (BBK) on my Infiniti 2015 Q50 w/ Vossen VFS-1 19” wheels. Ran into the same issue with the Front wheels valve stems.
Luckily I watched this video and ordered the Flush Mount Valve Stems. Fingers are crossed that they will clear the front caliber! Will give a status update once complete...
Let us know if this solution works for you!
@@AnthonyJ350 i put the akebono on my g37 and my emergency brake , It got out of adjustment, only then do I need to adjust it, a guy told me that I needed the one that comes with the akebono
Hey man. Do you have OEM part numbers for the rotors and pads. For don’t and rear.
I wanna get a set of Akebonos. But I want to buy aftermarket slotted rotors. So I need to know the OEM sizes for the akebono.
Since there are 3 different brake types for the Infiniti’s there are 3 different rotors. 🙄
Also do you know what rotors you had that were to big for the e brake?
I wanna make sure I stay away from whatever part number that was lol
I would check on Z1 Motorsports.
Where you buy the rear rotors I have the same problem
Local auto parts store in my area, Lordco
I just installed a big brake system on my 370z and my brother was wanting my slotted rotors and base 2 piston calipers to install on his 05 350z. Would he need the front adapters to install the 370z base 2 piston calipers ot would it be a direct bolt on?
I'm assuming you will still need the bracket from Z1 because the mounting position is different on the front of the 370Z vs the 350Z. I haven't tried your particular swap though. If you could comment when you guys have completed the job that would be awesome so I can learn something new.
Thanks for the quick response. I will order the brackets then and will let you know how it turns out. Didn’t see any videos with this setup so was needing some guidance.
Excellent job man! You see these aftermarket akebono refurbished everywhere for short money, they even says akebono on them. They seem to work as good. Are they OEM? If so, why do ppl buy crappy looking used ones for 800, $1000 bucks or more when we can get a raw one at Autozone for less than 100 bucks and paint them ourselves. Powdercoat obviously if you want to pay, but paint looks just as nice. A friend vinyl wrapped it. Never heard of it. Looks awesome but it is peeling a little bit after few months. Supposed to be high temp film. Idk.
I'm not sure about the the refurbished ones. If you know for sure it's the right one for a good price, get them.
Can you include a list or the links of the parts you used from z1 or other websites in the video discription? Thanks, and keep those great vids coming 😎
I'll update the description later with those optional parts
I just updated the description, check it out.
@@AnthonyJ350 You're the best!
Could you do a 60-0 brake test?
really enjoyed watching the video and thanks for making this video
The only problem with that is I wont have data for the stock setup I had.
my350z.com has a great thread that can provide this data. Its a lengthy read but very informative.
jamaicanbullet thanks
Is there a bracket for the rears? Or do the 370z rear calipers bolt right on?
They bolt right on.
@@AnthonyJ350 thanks man, are you running rotors from the 370 all around as well?
@@bean2077 Yes it's all 370Z plus the Z1 bracket for the front
Bro! Where do I buy those rear rotors that are the correct size? I cannot find them anywhere with the smaller inner diameter
bro! I was gonna ask him the same thing lol cant find them anywhere either.
I just went to Lordco and asked them for 370Z Akebono rear discs. Are you having issues like I did with the parking brake?
I got them at Lordco.
@@AnthonyJ350 Turns out their just regular G37 rotors ahah. Yeah the G37 sport rear rotors are the 350mm outer with the 6 and 3/4 inch inner diameter
@@aaronnewman1484 so I have a m37x and having the same issue so what do I need to make my parking brake work again because it wouldn't fit with the rotors I got off a 2013 g37
What’s the name of the front brakes i been looking for those. I have a akebono blue caliber and can’t find the brakes for my 2009 fix 35 but they look just like the ones you showing
You can just paint them ua-cam.com/video/vuAh2sSNSCA/v-deo.html
@@AnthonyJ350 i was saying the the name of the brakes yours look rectangle the ones they keep sending me or curve and don’t fit
@@Jay-vy6kz Oh you meant the brake pads. I just ordered Akebono pads for a 370Z with a sport brake package.
Ok thanks what’s the site you order from
@@Jay-vy6kz I got these from the local auto parts store Lordco.
Anyone know the size of the Alan key?
You're better off buying a set as opposed to just one size.
will my wheels fit 19x9.5 offset 22?
Here's my wheel video with specs ua-cam.com/video/x9XLGAojw6w/v-deo.html
Will this kit work with the 03-05 infiniti fx35?
You'll want to ask Z1 Motorsports
Yes it works just did it today 05 rev up
Would the calipers fit perfectly with the g35 19 rays?
I would go on my350Z.com or G35driver and see if anyone has done that combination. Good chance it will because my Vossens have a ridge that comes in a lot as you see in the video.
@@AnthonyJ350 much appreciated I bought the same adapter kit and steel brake lines as well from Z1
Bought them just now looking forward to the install
oh one more thing: it's a lot easier to assemble the caliper first before installing. thanks again.
Thanks for the feedback
akebono or brembo ??? Which ones better??
I prefer akebono pads in all of our vehicles.
can u use the stock brake lines untill upgrade to SS
If they're in good condition and you can mount them the same way without them stretching. I would just save up a bit more and install them all at the same time.
@@AnthonyJ350 thx u for rapid response. did you have to buy shorter banjo bolts for front akebono calibers
@@freeyourmind8849 No, we upgraded them with the stock 2006 brakes (non-Brembo) and were able to reuse them.
Do you need the Z1 Motorsports Akebono Front Brake Bracket Kit (350Z / G35)for the g37xs 2009?
and today I have tried to install the akebono but on both driver and passenger side, the rotors were basically grinding on the pads? I went to caps to see if I had the wrong rotors but seems like they were the right one. I cant seem to see whats the problem tks in advance.
Were you able to push the pistons all the way into the caliper? The bracket is just for mounting and your G37 should already be correct.
@@AnthonyJ350 Ok I will try it again tomorrow, where did you buy that tool to press the pistons?? I am in ottawa.
I have one of those tools but its for the motorcycle but the one you have fits all the way inside

Never take mechanical advice from anyone that would use a used rotor or condom.
To be fair the rotor had like 18,000km on it and I had them turned.
As soon as I herd Zed instead of Z......dislike 👎🏼 Will never watch this again...good bye.
I don't under why people from the states get upset about that. That's how people in Canada and other parts of the world pronounce it. Zee and Zed are both correct pronunciation.
You're being a little closed minded don't you think?
It's spelled "heard" for listening. "Herd" is when you group animals together i.e. herding sheep.
@p2Feener damn that sucks! That you were the sperm that survived.
