I was genuinely astounded by the level of deception in marketing when investigating filtration claims. Many, even expensive products, have relatively terrible filtration quality, falsely masquerading it as HEPA, when it’s only EPA. Worse, was how some very shady manufacturers would market "99.999%" filtration quality making you think it was better, but avoided telling you the whole truth. Samsung, for example, avoids using the term "HEPA" and deliberately fails to measure relative to HEPA standards, instead surreptitiously referring to 500+nm particles in the small print, which are relatively huge boulders and easy to filter out. Or worse, as in Miele's case, they also claim they're HEPA grade, but don't specify the size range associated with their "99.999%" filtration claim, and instead claim “No liability accepted for the accuracy of the information given”, which is astonishingly akin to saying “here’s a half-truth and thanks for your money, fool”. Anyone who respects behaviour from a company like this should not be respected themselves. Make sure they know this and make sure such companies are not supported until they show contrition for this behaviour and some respect for the customer. Disappointingly, no one notices any of this deception and no one mentions it on popular review channels, which is a failure and disservice from such lousy sources. As they say, if you want something doing right… I encourage people to look out for this kind of deception.
As a Sebo user (not a fan of them too much) I can confirm your correct. Even if their product says HEPA filtration on it, the air that passes through is the smell of everything that’s currently in the bag talk about unsanitary. You can see particles coming from the vent when vacuuming in the sunlight it’s gross.
@U I think you're misled. In the case of vacuum cleaners (distinct from air purifiers), carbon filters can reduce, but don't entirely trap all odours. Odours are best eliminated at their source-namely the smelly dirt in the bin/bag. Which is of course one of the huge problems with bagged cleaners; it's not economical to empty before it's full and utterly stinking to high heaven. The latest Dyson cleaners can be emptied without cost, effort, environmental impact, or mess, in 5 seconds after every use. As such, they can be made to smell much less. Rinsing AND fully drying filters, as well as zorbing the carpet are the best ways to also help reduce odours, as discussed in my videos, e.g., ua-cam.com/video/hsl4tCaL6g8/v-deo.html . @@Hermes_VVVIP Occasionally. Dust can electrostatically stick anywhere. If the floorhead gets grubby, wipe it with a soft, damp cloth. If there is dust in hard to reach places, like the ball joint, use the scratch-free dusting brush discussed at 8:47.

People should be asking the question why don't other people talk about these things. There are only two answers: they either don't know/understand, or do and are deliberately not talking about them. Neither is good. Sources which have been identified as not providing these other things should never be used again. One of the big problems with social media is how polluted with misleading nonsense it is, and how harmful this is to other people.

Great information and video. This would have sold me on the V15 if I didn’t already own one. The green laser is a huge benefit when vacuuming pet hair off hard floors. I was amazed at how at all the hair the laser illuminates that are naked to the eye under normal lighting without the laser. Great video.
The V11 V-Ball on my cleaner head broke off last week😔. I ordered a replacement V15 head and in the meantime wanted to harvest the motor for any jerryrig projects I could make😂. It turns out it is just a direct driven brushless motor with no gearbox of any kind. It’s quite a large outrunner motor which explains the torque it can produce without a gearbox system.
@@beko1987 running 17V to the PCB triggered the fail safe of my power supply without ever running the motor. There is some kind of data transfer or communication that is clearly needed from the vacuum cleaner that goes through the main power. I can’t run power directly to the brushless motor because the speed controller is integrated into the PCB. I would have to find a different speed controller.
I absolutely adore your videos. As such, I find myself stuck between the Roomba J7+ & the Dyson V15. My need for the J7+ is geared toward under bed carpet cleaning. Would the Dyson V15 also allow me to clean under the bed carpet? Do you suppose I could get close to the floor enough using the Dyson to effectively clean under the bed? It's importance to note that I suffer from dust allergies, and it becomes sometimes unbearable. So thorough cleaning is of paramount importance to me. Thanks in advance.
The V15 has very low profile and is very well suited for cleaning under the bed with the main motorised head. There's the low reach adaptor if reaching low is difficult for you, as discussed in this review.
I also have to say that I've chosen the Dyson after seeing a number other brand cordless vacuums at various friends houses in pieces in their garages collecting dust but in the way it was intended.
After initially thinking of spending a maximum of AU$300 for another vacuum cleaner, about two months ago I decided to take the eye watering plunge of spending AU$1500 on the V15 and cordless to boot, direct from Dyson as they had a couple of promotional items to throw in. This only happened after a lot of research and 'hoped' the reviews I read and watched were true to the product. The result after using my V15.....it is the King and Queen of ALL vacuum cleaners, especially cordless ones!! If you can afford it without selling any body parts, go for it. My mini Miele doesn't get used now as the V15 is scarily superior in cleaning plus no expense to replace bags. However, I have to get in touch with Dyson as my only issue is disconnecting the long stick from the barrel. Whether the barrel is full or not, it's very tight and extremely difficult to remove despite pressing down the red release button 😞Great review by the way Vacuum Facts, I don't tire of being reassured I've made the right decision 🙂
The talc is just reproduction of what the machines are like out of the box when factory new, which the engineers decide. There is a dusty lubricant inside to stop it sticking. Their knowledge of the technical details of these machines and design goals far exceeds mine since they're the creators.
The Scratch-free dusting brush is only available as part of the Detail cleaning kit for now in the US. Looks like a much better brush than the ones that come with the vacuums. The US website also shows a Pet grooming kit which looks a lot like the one that was available for the Cinetic models if I remember. I can't afford to upgrade from my V10 so adding the scratch-free brush would be a nice upgrade in cleaning.
I am curious what do you think about the outsized model? because I know you don’t like two batteries on some models which makes sense because you don’t want to deal with the hassle, but do you think in the future they should switch to a bigger battery? or continue 2 smaller batteries, or would solid-state batteries just solve the problem completely? I think with Dyson most people would probably be fine with the model that only comes with one battery, but I can see the need for two in commercial use and in larger homes for people who like to do their cleaning all at once even though bite-size cleaning is more efficient.
The outsize models are usually the same technology but larger. Hopefully Dyson's fundamentally new battery technology-looking likely released in 2025-should solve the capacity issues, even for larger homes and those retaining the old model of the tiring, weekly, mega-clean chore. It's energy density and specific energy increases should be at least a factor of 2 (possibly up to 4). Commercial environments will still benefit from multiple batteries, but a bank of those will all be charged and ready to go ready with everything else in that environment.
I wanted to say a big thanks for this video! I've watched countless v15 review videos (I'm a new owner trying to learn any tips and tricks with these kinds of vacs), and this is by far the most direct, informative and all-around helpful review. It was like you read my mind with the optional accessories (I was actually about to purchase a few, and you've made my final decision all the more clear). I also hadn't used the hair screw tool much, aside from the stairs, and you've convinced me to try it on a lot more surfaces. I used hair extensions to test the hair screw tool and it got tangled in the brushbar, not sure if it’s because of the material or something but the hair comb tool on the main floortool works properly

Show me some objective evidence of that specific situation occurring in the real-world. Evidence, not speculation. The Dyson videos are tailored for visual impact, much like their exaggerated fluffy promo video with the sweets etc.
@@VacuumFacts It’s common for people to be used to straight suction vacuums like Henry’s on a dark coloured carpet for a visually clean looking appearance when theres tons of hair, especially on stairs etc Or when theres an accommodation where students don’t bother using a vacuum for days or even weeks, these are often also shared accommodations and therefore tons of hair can be shed Or a home salon experience, if they had a v11 outsize which isn’t tangle free but does come with the hair screw tool that seems like a more sensible approach But all these examples aside, the main thing is that in Dysons demonstrations they show with the tangle free turbine head that it could effortlessly pick up long strands of different things but my hair screw tool couldn’t, does that mean the tangle free head is better or was it the material I used? Still waiting for evidence objectively showing real world situations are represented by your hair museum. The obvious problem is you used it for a situation it would never actually face. Very long hair delivered *uniformally* at very high density. Absurd. That never happens, even in the situations you describe above. I can't believe this is even being discussed.
Best review I seen and I watched all of them as I am deciding if I should go for the v12 or the v15. Have you had a chance to use the v12 and how would you compare it to the v15?
I don’t know your living situation, but I do wish dyson implemented a way to rid of hair when emptying. My household has so much long hair and the only way to touch free remove them is through pushing the small latch to remove the bin and empty. If not we have to deal with strands dangling from main bin seal.
@John Machotka yes I know that. I have a V11. 12+in hair just lingers between the squeegee and the skirt. I could repeatedly move the bin, but it’s much more faster to do the extra work of physically removing the bin to take out the hair.
Other than emptying more frequently, if that does't help, the only thing I can think of is taking the shroud off as you're already doing. Very long hair is a pain.

I've just purchased the dyson 15 tonight. Bare in mind its my first dyson I've bought. I'm getting on the 3rd of Janurary. How long does it take to fully charge??? I can't wait to get mine!!!
My V10 is still going strong and still offers amazing suction - I just can't justify upgrading no matter how nice the newer models are. The only issue I've got is my battery is a bit loose.
Surprising on the V10 seeing as it was screwed in. Yeah, pity the newer models are so expensive. If you want a future model, you just have to save up for it. A bit a week in a piggy bank. And you could also sell the V10 and get a bit for that at the time as well.
@@VacuumFacts I use my auto empty robot vacuum for daily cleaning and only use the V10 on the very rare occasions I need to vacuum furniture. I dropped my V10 and since then the battery has been a little loose despite the screw still being fully tightened.
@@drinkwater9891 at the moment I have the Ecovacs T8 TruDetect with auto empty base. My old Roborock S5 had better navigation though and the Ecovacs gets stuck on the door threshold regularly.
@@drinkwater9891 had the J7± and returned it within a week. It took forever to clean and the camera navigation was shite as well as the obstacle avoidance. I only had a 2 bed flat and it couldn't even clean it in one go.
@@drinkwater9891 lidar is an absolute must for a robot vacuum otherwise it's nowhere near as fast and accurate. My Ecovacs has two lasers in the front pointing in opposite directions for object avoidance (much more accurate than camera based avoidance) Sounds like you've got the perfect set up for a robot vacuum, they really make the most sense when you live on one floor (flat or bungalow). I can clean my entire bungalow (which is a very big two bed) I'm less than an hour and that's with it doing each room twice.
Thank you for such in-depth review. I wish the power brush would also have the laser beam feature since that is the tool we use more often and the roller even though more effective and maneuverable on the hard surface the tinny wheels collects debris too quickly to stop the wheels and requires very frequent maintenance. Also, I wish all the small accessories are designed like the Light Pipe Crevice Tool so they would light up the area especially when using during cleaning the vehicles. Hopefully next model will have it all!
Problem is that the LED would just illuminate the carpet texture and be useless on carpet. That said, it can detect whether it's on hardfloor or carpet so could surely have an auto on/off function
I can't thank you enough for your honest reviews! I have been round and around videos, almost settle on a choice and then find a con that I can't accept... I have narrowed down to Dyson, Bosch or Tenco... and I am thinking perhaps the Tineco hasn't got the full machine filtration (not sure). I am not sure what the difference between Dyson Absolute and Dyson Complete are? I wonder if you can go into that? Or are they the same machine with different attachments? Complete comes with a self-standing dock station which is nice... Also finding very difficult to find videos on Bosch comparison to Dyson... I was looking at Bosch Unlimited Serie 7 pro Animal.. there is serie 8, but very little info and not available in Australia where I am from... can I ask you to do video on these so I can finally make a choice? Or perhaps I should wait for the new Dyson in a year or two? One concern is weight and noise level as want to buy for my 85yo mum where overhead cleaning will feature in weight and her criticism of cordless is run time... Most reviews don't give a real-time working run time so very frustrating....This has me swinging to Bosch despite small canister, and it is quiet - very nice. But Bosch customer service and their difficult website to just browse is pulling me to Dyson Complete Animal... Dyson answered me almost immediately on their FB message facility.... So stuck between these two and maybe Tineco S15 (but some reviews say customer service is poor and the machine starts ok but after some time stops performing) ....? Also read some reviews on Bosch that batteries don't last, store charging after a year or so.. but can always replace them I guess... ? ... So hard.
I'd recommend checking out Dyson's website as they explain what attachments etc. come with each flavour of the products. I've not reviewed the Bosch directly, but I guarantee it's a Dyson clone that doesn't perform as well, looking at its technology and specifications. But it's cheaper, so it's up to you. The new Dyson Gen5 is released officially in a few days which has some amazing technology and features in it. But at £850, it's a substantial investment. Ultimately, you have to pick your budget and decide what you want. Dyson is objectively the best, but also the most expensive. The rest clone their technology on the cheap, and it shows, but some people don't mind that and want to pay less. If you want the best, go Dyson; if you want the best but are on a budget, go an older Dyson; if you're on a budget, you might want to settle for a knockoff clone.

I dont mind spending good money for good products, I just didn't want to buy and then find it has problems I am not prepared to accept... some say the Dyson are noisy and later models heavy but for performance ie. Suction and runtime... I can put up with that. Problem ordering online you can't test it out first... Looked at the Gen5 briefly, have to study what is different re performance. I dont really need all that digital tech. Its for my mum at 85 years old so has to be simple - she is not a techy by any means outside of operating a microwave!
The new Gen5 is the quietest vacuum I've ever heard ever and has a 90 day money back guarantee, apparently, so you can test it for 3 months. It's 2.3 kg in the hand, which is fairly comparable to the rest. Except it just works, even for an 85 year old. In many ways, it's simpler, because it just works properly and so less maintenance and problems with clogging etc. over time. I'll be doing a review of it in a week or so when it's released.

Recently purchased the Ball Animal upright (up32) and holy moly. The design and thought put into it is incredible. I see why the cordless models cost so much, out of my range unfortunately.
Tks for great sharing. May I know where the dust gets injected into the bin? I am worried that dust may leak from the injected hole through the sucking pipe when the bin’s MAX line reached. In addition, is that possible to leak from other areas, such as the HEPA filter when MAX line reached? I just recently noticed the MAX line.😅
I just found the manual mentioned a air inlet on the right hand side of the machine just below the point where the bin joins the main body of machine. So I guess the dust gets injected from that hole. Is that correct? If so, will v15 keep air inlet closed when it is not used/triggered by users? Or is that hole always opened so dust may leak out from air inlet through pipe to cause pollution?
Dust gets injected into the bin from the edge of the bin, yes. All air and dirt enters only from the cleaner head/attachment tool. Only cleaner air exits from the HEPA exhaust. All the dust stays inside regardless of whether you go over the max fill line. Going over this line increases the amount of dust leaving the first stage separation cyclone and heading to the second stage cyclones, and thus more leaves those to the filter. In othe rwords, going over the max fill line dirties the filter a bit faster (although not too much for Dyson machines). The next generation of Dyson machines will radically change this and there may not be a max fill line as currently exists.

On the other hand, does the "edge of the bin" you mentioned mean the "air inlet" shown in the v15 user manual? If so, can v15 keep air inlet closed when machine not in use? Just wonder if it's always open, then some dust surpass the MAX line probably may leak out from that hole thru the pipe then cause some pollution. Oh I see. Yes, I meant air inlet (on the bin; there are many throughout the system in different sections). Well if the bin is literally overflowing and completely blocked, then dust will fall back out. But otherwise, dust shouldn't be able to get back up from the bin, back through the inlet, and fall back out of the wand. Dust doesn't swirl around anymore and can be compacted with a plunger. It will only stop working when it's completely packed full, so a max fill line might not be needed (we'll find out).

Thank you for a wonderful review! As a V15 owner, I'd be interested if the V15+'s filter can be retrofitted to the original V15 model. If so, I'd buy one as a spare part. However, I can imagine that the new filter might cause higher pressure drop, that has to be compensated by the motor. That's why I hesitate. I'm not 100% sure that the main body is identical to V15.
I'm not 100% sure, but i do recall the air power of the + machine being greater-possibly to compensate for the filter's increased resistance. But I'm really not sure. Might be best just to save up and get the next model in a year or so.
@@VacuumFacts Do you also know how much higher the air power is? That's quite interesting, as both units look so similar. Unless the battery pack is different it would mean that V15+'s endurance should be shorter, which I doubt.
@@VacuumFacts Thanks for the information. If I remember correctly, the suction power is around 200 AW? So it seems the difference is negligible. Might even be that the new filter not only works better but also has lower resistance. With the rest of the machine being identical this would lead to slightly better suction power. Counter-intuitive but not entirely impossible.
I don’t suppose you have an opinion on the V15 total clean vs the V15 absolute, do you? I’m really struggling to find the difference between them and Dyson customer service have been no help at all. I’m trying to decide between the 2. I’ve found deals on both so there’s not much difference in price. Will the battery on the absolute be enough to vacuum an average 3 bed semi-detached house? I’ve read some reviews saying the battery is appalling and given the price I want to ensure I’m making the right decision.
Dyson customer service have become very, very poor recently (as of mid 2024) and lets down the entire company. The total clean is the higher end product, whose only difference is that it comes with more tools-most notably the anti-hair screw tool, which is pretty core. I'd also add the Gen5 is much better still, and the next product looks to be quite radically different, whenever it's released (maybe next year).

My wife and daughter have Dyson hairdryers, when my wife had an issue end of last year they were great but we called 2 weeks ago about my daughter’s and they were utterly useless. Their customer service used to be truly excellent. Replacement of modular parts no questions asked. Now it's a joke and others have described the utter shambles it is now and the miserable experience you have to endure if something goes wrong. What a genuine shame. Technologically, they are unsurpassed or even approached.
At 14:56 you mentioned not going above the max fill line per Dyson's instructions, but upon my very first use I was not paying close attention and filled the canister well above the max line. Do you know if that only affects suction performance before emptying the canister, or could there be more permanent damage as a result?
Does the built-in wand and duster impact clean when compared to the V15 without it or add additional weight? Currently, the V15 Detect is $100 less than the Absolute, and you can purchase the extra tools and HEPA filter for less if needed. I see no need for the mattress tool and unfortunately, the current Absoute kit doesn't include some items mentioned in the review. would get an additional HEPA filter to have a spare to dry. Thanks
@@VacuumFacts I already have a copycat clone extension, inferior to the real deal I'm sure but sufficient for my needs. My only concern about the dusting head is how easy it will be to get around my balustrades compared to the slimmer multi-tool, which I also use to do the edges of the steps before using the hair screw on the main body. I find the screw doesn't have quite the edge suction to get all the dog hairs.
Returning the Shark Stratos cordless today and getting the Outsize. The value of the extra $100 for what would be a $150 battery if I wanted to buy it from Dyson later is one thing. Dust capacity being better at .5 gal vs .2 gal, although I just came from a Shark Vertex that had a .25 gal dust capacity so that doesn’t really matter either I guess. Understanding the open suction is worse because of the added 2” on the cleaning path width. The Shark Stratos upright has .76 kpa unsealed vs the 1.74 kpa on the Outsize. The Stratos cordless (returning) at .95 unsealed kpa meaning that even with the outsize being bigger and worse than the detect, it still has better suction in sealed and unsealed than both Stratos cordless and upright.
Suction alone is only indirectly relevant to cleaning performance-the metric that actually counts. There are some really terrible 'popular' YT channels out there that spread utter nonsense, often by championing measurements of suction and unimpeded airflow, which is genuinely absurd and shows complete ignorance of the most basic of science on their part. And it’s all very simple to understand. A porous surface (a carpet) resists and relatively reduces the air current flowing through it into a cleaner head sealed to its surface. (If the head is unsealed, then there is a low resistance pathway for larger air currents to flow, bypassing the pile where the dirt is.) This is basic Ohm’s law taught to all children in the developed world. Increasing suction pressure partly overcomes this air resistance and maintains a greater portion the air current through the pile (too much suction causes head clamping, though). Increasing air current through the pile generally increases the air speed that particles within it experience. Air speed is directly important to cleaning performance as this determines the energy imparted to remove particles. The energy imparted to particles is also determined by whether the particle is netted by the fibres and their location and depth. Cleaner head design is therefore also directly important to ensuring particles experience high air speed, by optimising flow and minimising netting. There are no easy ‘bedroom youtuber’ measurements that can be made for these important parameters; cleaning performance has to be measured directly. Sadly, the worst channels fail at even this by doing unrepresentative and very poorly controlled ‘tests’ which show nothing of relevance or to any degree of confidence. If you see someone trying to remove sand artificially injected deep into a pile for example, switch off immediately and blacklist. The conclusion these misleading channels peddle that the outsize is outperformed by the non-outsize version is very poorly supported and I do not believe to be true under real-world conditions. Beware not to be misled by flashy, loud ignorance.

This non-sponsored review sounded more like a commercial than all the reviews I watched. Not sure what to make of what.There are some cons and downsides that all reviewers point out except this one, including the ones that agree the Dyson is overall the best if price is not an issue.
Quite how it sounds like a commercial is anyone's guess when all it does is present a bunch of facts and the evidence for it (unlike a single commercial ever) from an independent source. You also didn't mention any of these 'cons' that 'others mention' and then fact-check their validity and provide a little evidence. The whole point of this video is to nullify faux doubt and misleading claims exactly of this nature. People can review the evidence and make their minds up for themselves, of course. It's fairly clear.
I wish these reviews covered more about high carpet for cordless vacuums. I have mainly all high carpet all throughout my house and want to know more about performance of that.
My carpet is considered deep-pile. This was covered in the review during the performance testing description. I've never tried an Outsize. Technologically, they're the virtually the same; one is just larger (at least for the Gen5Detect versions).
Is the laser fluffy head compatible with the older Dyson models? I'm planning on buying a V10 Powerhead NEW as it's more affordable for me and still performs great. I wanted a V8 before, but it got sold out pretty quickly.
Thanks. This was my intention. Unfortunately YT is generally full of rubbish by people who don't have a clue and want money or to peddle an agenda. Everyone might have the right to speak freely, but not everyone has the right to be heard equally, because not everyone knows what they're talking about. If you want something doing right, you have to do it yourself, as the old adage goes. Hence this review.
I've not performance tested the V8 to know for sure, but it's not in the mains-league, as Dyson themselves were open about. It was designed for quick pickups (like the V12-its successor). Only the V10, 11, 15, & gen5 are mains replacements.
I stopped at the outsize.. I love the wider head and dual batteries.. the v12 I just think is under sized for any real cleaning. The v15 I skipped on because the louder head and the narrow head and the graph showing the particle size and how that would never do me any good.. I did though want the laser head but eh.. I do want a fluffy head though. I’m in a new apartment and have 99% hardwood (i hate it).
The V12 really should have at least the same 540ml capacity of the V8, not it's paltry 350ml. It really is a shame as it hamstrings what would otherwise be a great vacuum. The particle count on V12 and V15 can quickly be disabled by holding the button at the screen and accessing the user menu, the adaptive suction is the more important factor anyway in saving battery life whilst giving a good clean
So? That's because there's dust in there. It's obviously not an issue and is cleaned when emptied as explained and demonstrated in the video. My V15 makes a motor-like noise when I turn it on.

The bit right at the beginning where I show the receipt where I paid for it? I just realized this is UK exclusive. You can't get these in the US. We have the V15 but not plus. We get the absolute plus, which is slightly less powerful but bigger.
Seems you may have been misled, there's no difference between the Absolute and Absolute Plus suction power, only tools and accessories. The larger Outsize model is a larger V11 with the laser fluffy head for reference :)
I never recommend people buy anything specific. It's their money and their decision. All I do is provide information to make an informed decision, devoid of marketing deception and half-truths. The V15 is about ot be superseded by the Gen5Detect, so if a buyer's objective is to have 'the best/latest', then best wait for that. Otherwise, if they want something less expensive and good, then the V15 is sensible.
Doesn't seem like the self scraping shroud did a very good job cleaning the shroud at 15:04. I'm not hating, but just pointing it out. I just bought a V15 so I'm just watching reviews while waiting for it!
If extremely soiled like it was, a couple of swipes in all of 1 second clears it. Also, even if you don't, it's loosened so the air removes much of it. The purpose is to remove the accreted material so there's space for air to pass through. The brilliant design in the future models is fundamentally changing this as well to avoid the problem of shroud clogging entirely.
Maybe at some point, but not any time soon. It's not even available in the UK. I've already commented on its features in these comments if you look for it.

Ah ok. You didn't specify your country (there are lots to choose from). You will have to check the website of the country you are in to determine what is for sale and what it comes with.
I recall a hostile rabid vacuum enthusiast commenter once bragging how their favoured brand of cleaner was far better at filtration than the Dyson machines. No evidence was of course provided, and when a fact-check occurred, it turned out to simply be basic H13 grade (99.97% >= 300 nm removal)-FAR below the filtration performance of modern Dyson machines and relatively polluting in comparison. The last death throes claim of that particular rabid vacuum enthusiast evaporating back into the aether of falsehoods from where they reside.
I've always found it laughably ironic listening to complaints that you need light to "see where you're vacuuming" and hence why pointless headlights on some non-Dyson products are 'useful', yet people are now turning the lights off so they can see the dirt they're trying to clean up (apparently oblivious to the fact that the more harmful dust is microscopic and invisible to the human eye by definition). xD
A WARNING TO ALL DYSON USERS: Do not under any circumstances vacuum up any fine white powders/particles with your Dyson vacuum. It will kill the motor and it is NOT covered under the warranty. This includes things like white powder carpet cleaners (carpet fresh, etc), baby powder, baking soda, cornstarch, etc. I learned the hard way. Is it true? I saw the comment in Facebook.
This is deeply misleading. The manual details clearly what can and can't be done. Sucking up ultra fine powders in very large quantities (e.g. an entire mountain spillage) is not recommended, but can be cleaned in smaller trace quantities, such as may be found normally in the home. If you spill a mountain, scoup most of it up before getting the last bits with a vacuum. And your claim 'it will kill the motor' is simply false. There's a filter in the way for the very purpose of avoiding this. That will get clogged and simply needs rinsing if so. I killed a dyson ball vac by sucking up plaster dust whilst cutting out downlights in the ceiling with a holesaw. Ive told many people now NOT to do that 🤦♂️
@@drewymuller3286 I don't believe sucking up dried plasterboard dust from a single job damaged the motor. That makes no sense. The pre-motor filter blocks small particles to prevent this. Only complete and long term neglect would result in motor damage. This is not a concern for 99.9+% of users.

Well, we took the dyson to the repair man and when he opened it up he asked "Have you been sucking up plaster dust with this vacuum?".. and he also stated that "sucking up plaster dust is the worst thing to do with a vacuum." So im taking his advice and telling the story. Hopefully someone will read this and save themself time and money 🙏 Im sure a small amount would be fine with the pre motor filter but we cut about 10 holes with a 90mm holesaw until it died. Only 1year old vac, domestic use. Maybe the were was a bad seal somewhere who knows but now its in the bin
Often vacuum repair shops don't have a full understanding of how these machines work and draw the wrong conclusions. Plenty of evidence on my channel how much fine dust they can cope with. It's simply not true they can't cope. Uncured plaster dust (distinct from post-cured) is definitely harmful because it can solidify in the machine, but other fine dust simply ends up on the filter causing it to block, which is rinsable. Modern Dyson machines detect this and warn the user. It's a non-issue short of complete and utter neglect nowadays.

Assuming I believe you; almost every one elses doesn't; years old! It's under warranty for this very reason. Anecdotes like this never come with evidence of how to reproduce it from scratch, so you can never be sure what *really* caused the alleged failure.
In fact, why are you using boost mode for anything other than a major local spillage? You're not supposed to as you'll reduce the service lifetime of the battery. The brushbar is designed to cut out if the suction is too strong for your particular carpet, causing it to be sucked into the head. In such cases, you're supposed to use auto mode and open the gates until this effect stops. It's all in the manual. Did you bother to read it and educate yourself, or just throw the knowledge away after those 2 days?
At 6:04 you state all dyson machines have whole machine HEPA filtration. This is not true. If you state other companies are misleading, I smell a bit of hypocrisy here.
I didn't state that "all dyson machines have whole machine HEPA filtration". I said Dyson's machines, obviously referring in context to their modern ones and the ones clearly listed as having that. Their machines have been fully sealed since the DC41 at least and probably earlier. Please can you provide the evidence why you think this is false and why Dyson mains and modern cordless machines (V10 onwards) are not sealed? This is just to check the hypocrisy you smell isn't actually your own, deriving from a petty desire to pull the rug and cause trouble for no reason.
thanks, appreciate a good review of a good product. i wish more people in cordless vacs, they are essentially tech products with plenty room for improvement. 1. agree on the mattress tool. while it is wider, it will do a poor job vs motorized tool which can get to trapped dust/dust mites 2. the laser is not a gimmick. you just need to vacuum in lower light or later in the day to see dust. i am unlikely to vacuum without a floor light on the head. 3. 13:30 true. we need to get rid of fluffy/soft roller head. if you look into more footage, you will find some particles shooting far away from the tool. personal xp, it also eats into thin rugs, small toys, etc.. 4. copycats should start designing things on their own than simply copy Dyson. while cheap copycats that costs a fraction of a Dyson makes sense, the flagship ones that almost like costs a Dyson does not.
Copycats exist because of regressive capitalism: get rich at the expense of other people by shortcutting, cheating, and leeching off the hard work of your betters. RE: 2. That is a deeply unconvincing argument for why the laser is not of little use and addresses absolutely nothing specifically raised in both reviews now. Colour me completely unconvinced.

I've seen some variations of it but I wish more companies try harder otherwise I'd do it myself.😅 I already have ideas but creating and maintaining company is hard work and stress. while I consistently vacuum with a pattern and overlaps, it is satisfying to see dust sucked off the hard floor. Vacuum Wars channel was not convinced with the laser on his first review but lately he's getting it.
For practical purposes when you know how to use it, I've seen no significant drawbacks and would never use a mains/upright (or clone) ever again now. The advantages of the better stick vac formfactor provided, dwarf any minor irrelevancies (like not standing upright on its own). The Vacuum Wars channel has no redeeming qualities I'm able to identify (popularity being no virtue).
That's a half-truth troll comment with clear antagonistic undertones. Dyson are 'the best' on the market and if someone peddles a gimmick which isn't that useful, but yet appears to be, then they have to do it as well. This was a case of Dyson 'copying' Shark, as discussed in the video. But what you didn't mention, despite it being mentioned in the review, is that Dyson's copy 'clone' was actually an improvement, rather than a cheap kludge which doesn't work as well as the original idea (cough...dual roller, cough, rip-off cyclones etc.). I think you overlooked that you'd also be throwing a full vacuum bag into the same even bigger, less environmentally friendly bag. At the moment it's not practical to get rid of the bigger trash bag, but we can control what we put into said trash bag.

I was genuinely astounded by the level of deception in marketing when investigating filtration claims. Many, even expensive products, have relatively terrible filtration quality, falsely masquerading it as HEPA, when it’s only EPA. Worse, was how some very shady manufacturers would market "99.999%" filtration quality making you think it was better, but avoided telling you the whole truth. Samsung, for example, avoids using the term "HEPA" and deliberately fails to measure relative to HEPA standards, instead surreptitiously referring to 500+nm particles in the small print, which are relatively huge boulders and easy to filter out. Or worse, as in Miele's case, they also claim they're HEPA grade, but don't specify the size range associated with their "99.999%" filtration claim, and instead claim “No liability accepted for the accuracy of the information given”, which is astonishingly akin to saying “here’s a half-truth and thanks for your money, fool”. Anyone who respects behaviour from a company like this should not be respected themselves. Make sure they know this and make sure such companies are not supported until they show contrition for this behaviour and some respect for the customer. Disappointingly, no one notices any of this deception and no one mentions it on popular review channels, which is a failure and disservice from such lousy sources. As they say, if you want something doing right… I encourage people to look out for this kind of deception.
As a Sebo user (not a fan of them too much) I can confirm your correct. Even if their product says HEPA filtration on it, the air that passes through is the smell of everything that’s currently in the bag talk about unsanitary.
You can see particles coming from the vent when vacuuming in the sunlight it’s gross.
@U I think you're misled. In the case of vacuum cleaners (distinct from air purifiers), carbon filters can reduce, but don't entirely trap all odours. Odours are best eliminated at their source-namely the smelly dirt in the bin/bag. Which is of course one of the huge problems with bagged cleaners; it's not economical to empty before it's full and utterly stinking to high heaven. The latest Dyson cleaners can be emptied without cost, effort, environmental impact, or mess, in 5 seconds after every use. As such, they can be made to smell much less. Rinsing AND fully drying filters, as well as zorbing the carpet are the best ways to also help reduce odours, as discussed in my videos, e.g., ua-cam.com/video/hsl4tCaL6g8/v-deo.html . @@Hermes_VVVIP Occasionally. Dust can electrostatically stick anywhere. If the floorhead gets grubby, wipe it with a soft, damp cloth. If there is dust in hard to reach places, like the ball joint, use the scratch-free dusting brush discussed at 8:47.

People should be asking the question why don't other people talk about these things. There are only two answers: they either don't know/understand, or do and are deliberately not talking about them. Neither is good. Sources which have been identified as not providing these other things should never be used again. One of the big problems with social media is how polluted with misleading nonsense it is, and how harmful this is to other people.

Great information and video. This would have sold me on the V15 if I didn’t already own one. The green laser is a huge benefit when vacuuming pet hair off hard floors. I was amazed at how at all the hair the laser illuminates that are naked to the eye under normal lighting without the laser. Great video.
Although the hair will be cleaned whether or not it is visible just prior to the head passing over it.
The V11 V-Ball on my cleaner head broke off last week😔. I ordered a replacement V15 head and in the meantime wanted to harvest the motor for any jerryrig projects I could make😂. It turns out it is just a direct driven brushless motor with no gearbox of any kind. It’s quite a large outrunner motor which explains the torque it can produce without a gearbox system.
Was it easy to hook external power to? Did you power it via the pcb or just straight to the motor?
@@beko1987 running 17V to the PCB triggered the fail safe of my power supply without ever running the motor. There is some kind of data transfer or communication that is clearly needed from the vacuum cleaner that goes through the main power.
I can’t run power directly to the brushless motor because the speed controller is integrated into the PCB. I would have to find a different speed controller.
I absolutely adore your videos. As such, I find myself stuck between the Roomba J7+ & the Dyson V15. My need for the J7+ is geared toward under bed carpet cleaning. Would the Dyson V15 also allow me to clean under the bed carpet? Do you suppose I could get close to the floor enough using the Dyson to effectively clean under the bed? It's importance to note that I suffer from dust allergies, and it becomes sometimes unbearable. So thorough cleaning is of paramount importance to me. Thanks in advance.
The V15 has very low profile and is very well suited for cleaning under the bed with the main motorised head. There's the low reach adaptor if reaching low is difficult for you, as discussed in this review.
I just ordered one from Dyson and looking forward to getting it and using it to clean up my world.
I also have to say that I've chosen the Dyson after seeing a number other brand cordless vacuums at various friends houses in pieces in their garages collecting dust but in the way it was intended.
After initially thinking of spending a maximum of AU$300 for another vacuum cleaner, about two months ago I decided to take the eye watering plunge of spending AU$1500 on the V15 and cordless to boot, direct from Dyson as they had a couple of promotional items to throw in. This only happened after a lot of research and 'hoped' the reviews I read and watched were true to the product. The result after using my V15.....it is the King and Queen of ALL vacuum cleaners, especially cordless ones!! If you can afford it without selling any body parts, go for it. My mini Miele doesn't get used now as the V15 is scarily superior in cleaning plus no expense to replace bags. However, I have to get in touch with Dyson as my only issue is disconnecting the long stick from the barrel. Whether the barrel is full or not, it's very tight and extremely difficult to remove despite pressing down the red release button 😞Great review by the way Vacuum Facts, I don't tire of being reassured I've made the right decision 🙂

The talc is just reproduction of what the machines are like out of the box when factory new, which the engineers decide. There is a dusty lubricant inside to stop it sticking. Their knowledge of the technical details of these machines and design goals far exceeds mine since they're the creators.
Ah yes, I misread the OP. Wand from the barrel. OK, lubricant might help (or a clean).
The Scratch-free dusting brush is only available as part of the Detail cleaning kit for now in the US. Looks like a much better brush than the ones that come with the vacuums. The US website also shows a Pet grooming kit which looks a lot like the one that was available for the Cinetic models if I remember. I can't afford to upgrade from my V10 so adding the scratch-free brush would be a nice upgrade in cleaning.
I am curious what do you think about the outsized model? because I know you don’t like two batteries on some models which makes sense because you don’t want to deal with the hassle, but do you think in the future they should switch to a bigger battery? or continue 2 smaller batteries, or would solid-state batteries just solve the problem completely? I think with Dyson most people would probably be fine with the model that only comes with one battery, but I can see the need for two in commercial use and in larger homes for people who like to do their cleaning all at once even though bite-size cleaning is more efficient.
The outsize models are usually the same technology but larger. Hopefully Dyson's fundamentally new battery technology-looking likely released in 2025-should solve the capacity issues, even for larger homes and those retaining the old model of the tiring, weekly, mega-clean chore. It's energy density and specific energy increases should be at least a factor of 2 (possibly up to 4). Commercial environments will still benefit from multiple batteries, but a bank of those will all be charged and ready to go ready with everything else in that environment.

I wanted to say a big thanks for this video! I've watched countless v15 review videos (I'm a new owner trying to learn any tips and tricks with these kinds of vacs), and this is by far the most direct, informative and all-around helpful review. It was like you read my mind with the optional accessories (I was actually about to purchase a few, and you've made my final decision all the more clear). I also hadn't used the hair screw tool much, aside from the stairs, and you've convinced me to try it on a lot more surfaces.

I used hair extensions to test the hair screw tool and it got tangled in the brushbar, not sure if it’s because of the material or something but the hair comb tool on the main floortool works properly

Or when theres an accommodation where students don’t bother using a vacuum for days or even weeks, these are often also shared accommodations and therefore tons of hair can be shed
Or a home salon experience, if they had a v11 outsize which isn’t tangle free but does come with the hair screw tool that seems like a more sensible approach
But all these examples aside, the main thing is that in Dysons demonstrations they show with the tangle free turbine head that it could effortlessly pick up long strands of different things but my hair screw tool couldn’t, does that mean the tangle free head is better or was it the material I used? (Hair extensions)
Still waiting for evidence objectively showing real world situations are represented by your hair museum. The obvious problem is you used it for a situation it would never actually face. Very long hair delivered *uniformally* at very high density. Absurd. That never happens, even in the situations you describe above. I can't believe this is even being discussed.

I don’t know your living situation, but I do wish dyson implemented a way to rid of hair when emptying. My household has so much long hair and the only way to touch free remove them is through pushing the small latch to remove the bin and empty. If not we have to deal with strands dangling from main bin seal.
@John Machotka yes I know that. I have a V11. 12+in hair just lingers between the squeegee and the skirt. I could repeatedly move the bin, but it’s much more faster to do the extra work of physically removing the bin to take out the hair.
Other than emptying more frequently, if that does't help, the only thing I can think of is taking the shroud off as you're already doing. Very long hair is a pain.

My V10 is still going strong and still offers amazing suction - I just can't justify upgrading no matter how nice the newer models are. The only issue I've got is my battery is a bit loose.
Surprising on the V10 seeing as it was screwed in. Yeah, pity the newer models are so expensive. If you want a future model, you just have to save up for it. A bit a week in a piggy bank. And you could also sell the V10 and get a bit for that at the time as well.
@@VacuumFacts I use my auto empty robot vacuum for daily cleaning and only use the V10 on the very rare occasions I need to vacuum furniture.
I dropped my V10 and since then the battery has been a little loose despite the screw still being fully tightened.
@@drinkwater9891 at the moment I have the Ecovacs T8 TruDetect with auto empty base. My old Roborock S5 had better navigation though and the Ecovacs gets stuck on the door threshold regularly.
@@drinkwater9891 had the J7± and returned it within a week. It took forever to clean and the camera navigation was shite as well as the obstacle avoidance. I only had a 2 bed flat and it couldn't even clean it in one go.

My Ecovacs has two lasers in the front pointing in opposite directions for object avoidance (much more accurate than camera based avoidance)
Sounds like you've got the perfect set up for a robot vacuum, they really make the most sense when you live on one floor (flat or bungalow). I can clean my entire bungalow (which is a very big two bed) I'm less than an hour and that's with it doing each room twice.
Thank you for such in-depth review. I wish the power brush would also have the laser beam feature since that is the tool we use more often and the roller even though more effective and maneuverable on the hard surface the tinny wheels collects debris too quickly to stop the wheels and requires very frequent maintenance. Also, I wish all the small accessories are designed like the Light Pipe Crevice Tool so they would light up the area especially when using during cleaning the vehicles. Hopefully next model will have it all!
Problem is that the LED would just illuminate the carpet texture and be useless on carpet. That said, it can detect whether it's on hardfloor or carpet so could surely have an auto on/off function
I can't thank you enough for your honest reviews! I have been round and around videos, almost settle on a choice and then find a con that I can't accept... I have narrowed down to Dyson, Bosch or Tenco... and I am thinking perhaps the Tineco hasn't got the full machine filtration (not sure). I am not sure what the difference between Dyson Absolute and Dyson Complete are? I wonder if you can go into that? Or are they the same machine with different attachments? Complete comes with a self-standing dock station which is nice... Also finding very difficult to find videos on Bosch comparison to Dyson... I was looking at Bosch Unlimited Serie 7 pro Animal.. there is serie 8, but very little info and not available in Australia where I am from... can I ask you to do video on these so I can finally make a choice? Or perhaps I should wait for the new Dyson in a year or two? One concern is weight and noise level as want to buy for my 85yo mum where overhead cleaning will feature in weight and her criticism of cordless is run time... Most reviews don't give a real-time working run time so very frustrating....This has me swinging to Bosch despite small canister, and it is quiet - very nice. But Bosch customer service and their difficult website to just browse is pulling me to Dyson Complete Animal... Dyson answered me almost immediately on their FB message facility.... So stuck between these two and maybe Tineco S15 (but some reviews say customer service is poor and the machine starts ok but after some time stops performing) ....? Also read some reviews on Bosch that batteries don't last, store charging after a year or so.. but can always replace them I guess... ? ... So hard.
I'd recommend checking out Dyson's website as they explain what attachments etc. come with each flavour of the products. I've not reviewed the Bosch directly, but I guarantee it's a Dyson clone that doesn't perform as well, looking at its technology and specifications. But it's cheaper, so it's up to you. The new Dyson Gen5 is released officially in a few days which has some amazing technology and features in it. But at £850, it's a substantial investment. Ultimately, you have to pick your budget and decide what you want. Dyson is objectively the best, but also the most expensive. The rest clone their technology on the cheap, and it shows, but some people don't mind that and want to pay less. If you want the best, go Dyson; if you want the best but are on a budget, go an older Dyson; if you're on a budget, you might want to settle for a knockoff clone.

I dont mind spending good money for good products, I just didn't want to buy and then find it has problems I am not prepared to accept... some say the Dyson are noisy and later models heavy but for performance ie. Suction and runtime... I can put up with that. Problem ordering online you can't test it out first... Looked at the Gen5 briefly, have to study what is different re performance. I dont really need all that digital tech. Its for my mum at 85 years old so has to be simple - she is not a techy by any means outside of operating a microwave!
The new Gen5 is the quietest vacuum I've ever heard ever and has a 90 day money back guarantee, apparently, so you can test it for 3 months. It's 2.3 kg in the hand, which is fairly comparable to the rest. Except it just works, even for an 85 year old. In many ways, it's simpler, because it just works properly and so less maintenance and problems with clogging etc. over time. I'll be doing a review of it in a week or so when it's released.

Recently purchased the Ball Animal upright (up32) and holy moly. The design and thought put into it is incredible. I see why the cordless models cost so much, out of my range unfortunately.

I just found the manual mentioned a air inlet on the right hand side of the machine just below the point where the bin joins the main body of machine. So I guess the dust gets injected from that hole. Is that correct? If so, will v15 keep air inlet closed when it is not used/triggered by users? Or is that hole always opened so dust may leak out from air inlet through pipe to cause pollution?
Dust gets injected into the bin from the edge of the bin, yes. All air and dirt enters only from the cleaner head/attachment tool. Only cleaner air exits from the HEPA exhaust. All the dust stays inside regardless of whether you go over the max fill line. Going over this line increases the amount of dust leaving the first stage separation cyclone and heading to the second stage cyclones, and thus more leaves those to the filter. In othe rwords, going over the max fill line dirties the filter a bit faster (although not too much for Dyson machines). The next generation of Dyson machines will radically change this and there may not be a max fill line as currently exists.

Oh I see. Yes, I meant air inlet (on the bin; there are many throughout the system in different sections). Well if the bin is literally overflowing and completely blocked, then dust will fall back out. But otherwise, dust shouldn't be able to get back up from the bin, back through the inlet, and fall back out of the wand. Best practice is to spend 5 seconds emptying the bin after every use. ua-cam.com/video/E_ik6qScs0o/v-deo.html The next generation of Dyson cordless cleaners to be released appear to use a different design of bin. Dust doesn't swirl around anymore and can be compacted with a plunger. It will only stop working when it's completely packed full, so a max fill line might not be needed (we'll find out).

Thank you for a wonderful review! As a V15 owner, I'd be interested if the V15+'s filter can be retrofitted to the original V15 model. If so, I'd buy one as a spare part.
However, I can imagine that the new filter might cause higher pressure drop, that has to be compensated by the motor. That's why I hesitate. I'm not 100% sure that the main body is identical to V15.
I'm not 100% sure, but i do recall the air power of the + machine being greater-possibly to compensate for the filter's increased resistance. But I'm really not sure. Might be best just to save up and get the next model in a year or so.
@@VacuumFacts Do you also know how much higher the air power is? That's quite interesting, as both units look so similar. Unless the battery pack is different it would mean that V15+'s endurance should be shorter, which I doubt.

@@VacuumFacts Thanks for the information. If I remember correctly, the suction power is around 200 AW? So it seems the difference is negligible. Might even be that the new filter not only works better but also has lower resistance. With the rest of the machine being identical this would lead to slightly better suction power. Counter-intuitive but not entirely impossible.
I don’t suppose you have an opinion on the V15 total clean vs the V15 absolute, do you? I’m really struggling to find the difference between them and Dyson customer service have been no help at all.
I’m trying to decide between the 2. I’ve found deals on both so there’s not much difference in price.
Will the battery on the absolute be enough to vacuum an average 3 bed semi-detached house? I’ve read some reviews saying the battery is appalling and given the price I want to ensure I’m making the right decision.
Dyson customer service have become very, very poor recently (as of mid 2024) and lets down the entire company. The total clean is the higher end product, whose only difference is that it comes with more tools-most notably the anti-hair screw tool, which is pretty core. I'd also add the Gen5 is much better still, and the next product looks to be quite radically different, whenever it's released (maybe next year).

My wife and daughter have Dyson hairdryers, when my wife had an issue end of last year they were great but we called 2 weeks ago about my daughter’s and they were utterly useless. It’s a real shame, given it’s a premium product, good CS should be an area in which they excel.

Their customer service used to be truly excellent. Replacement of modular parts no questions asked. Now it's a joke and others have described the utter shambles it is now and the miserable experience you have to endure if something goes wrong. What a genuine shame. Technologically, they are unsurpassed or even approached.
At 14:56 you mentioned not going above the max fill line per Dyson's instructions, but upon my very first use I was not paying close attention and filled the canister well above the max line. Do you know if that only affects suction performance before emptying the canister, or could there be more permanent damage as a result?
No, it just means more gets through to the filter so will need rinsing more frequently to remove it.

Does the built-in wand and duster impact clean when compared to the V15 without it or add additional weight? Currently, the V15 Detect is $100 less than the Absolute, and you can purchase the extra tools and HEPA filter for less if needed. I see no need for the mattress tool and unfortunately, the current Absoute kit doesn't include some items mentioned in the review. would get an additional HEPA filter to have a spare to dry. Thanks

@@VacuumFacts I already have a copycat clone extension, inferior to the real deal I'm sure but sufficient for my needs. My only concern about the dusting head is how easy it will be to get around my balustrades compared to the slimmer multi-tool, which I also use to do the edges of the steps before using the hair screw on the main body. I find the screw doesn't have quite the edge suction to get all the dog hairs.
Returning the Shark Stratos cordless today and getting the Outsize. The value of the extra $100 for what would be a $150 battery if I wanted to buy it from Dyson later is one thing. Dust capacity being better at .5 gal vs .2 gal, although I just came from a Shark Vertex that had a .25 gal dust capacity so that doesn’t really matter either I guess. Understanding the open suction is worse because of the added 2” on the cleaning path width. The Shark Stratos upright has .76 kpa unsealed vs the 1.74 kpa on the Outsize. The Stratos cordless (returning) at .95 unsealed kpa meaning that even with the outsize being bigger and worse than the detect, it still has better suction in sealed and unsealed than both Stratos cordless and upright.
Suction alone is only indirectly relevant to cleaning performance-the metric that actually counts. There are some really terrible 'popular' YT channels out there that spread utter nonsense, often by championing measurements of suction and unimpeded airflow, which is genuinely absurd and shows complete ignorance of the most basic of science on their part. And it’s all very simple to understand.
A porous surface (a carpet) resists and relatively reduces the air current flowing through it into a cleaner head sealed to its surface. (If the head is unsealed, then there is a low resistance pathway for larger air currents to flow, bypassing the pile where the dirt is.) This is basic Ohm’s law taught to all children in the developed world. Increasing suction pressure partly overcomes this air resistance and maintains a greater portion the air current through the pile (too much suction causes head clamping, though). Increasing air current through the pile generally increases the air speed that particles within it experience. Air speed is directly important to cleaning performance as this determines the energy imparted to remove particles. The energy imparted to particles is also determined by whether the particle is netted by the fibres and their location and depth. Cleaner head design is therefore also directly important to ensuring particles experience high air speed, by optimising flow and minimising netting. There are no easy ‘bedroom youtuber’ measurements that can be made for these important parameters; cleaning performance has to be measured directly. Sadly, the worst channels fail at even this by doing unrepresentative and very poorly controlled ‘tests’ which show nothing of relevance or to any degree of confidence. If you see someone trying to remove sand artificially injected deep into a pile for example, switch off immediately and blacklist.
The conclusion these misleading channels peddle that the outsize is outperformed by the non-outsize version is very poorly supported and I do not believe to be true under real-world conditions. Beware not to be misled by flashy, loud ignorance.

Quite how it sounds like a commercial is anyone's guess when all it does is present a bunch of facts and the evidence for it (unlike a single commercial ever) from an independent source. You also didn't mention any of these 'cons' that 'others mention' and then fact-check their validity and provide a little evidence. The whole point of this video is to nullify faux doubt and misleading claims exactly of this nature. People can review the evidence and make their minds up for themselves, of course. It's fairly clear.

I wish these reviews covered more about high carpet for cordless vacuums. I have mainly all high carpet all throughout my house and want to know more about performance of that.
My carpet is considered deep-pile. This was covered in the review during the performance testing description. I've never tried an Outsize. Technologically, they're the virtually the same; one is just larger (at least for the Gen5Detect versions).
Is the laser fluffy head compatible with the older Dyson models? I'm planning on buying a V10 Powerhead NEW as it's more affordable for me and still performs great. I wanted a V8 before, but it got sold out pretty quickly.

Everyone might have the right to speak freely, but not everyone has the right to be heard equally, because not everyone knows what they're talking about. How close is a V8 to a V10? Is picking up a V8 still better than most mains?
I've not performance tested the V8 to know for sure, but it's not in the mains-league, as Dyson themselves were open about. It was designed for quick pickups (like the V12-its successor). Only the V10, 11, 15, & gen5 are mains replacements.
I stopped at the outsize.. I love the wider head and dual batteries.. the v12 I just think is under sized for any real cleaning. The v15 I skipped on because the louder head and the narrow head and the graph showing the particle size and how that would never do me any good.. I did though want the laser head but eh.. I do want a fluffy head though. I’m in a new apartment and have 99% hardwood (i hate it).
The V12 really should have at least the same 540ml capacity of the V8, not it's paltry 350ml. It really is a shame as it hamstrings what would otherwise be a great vacuum. The particle count on V12 and V15 can quickly be disabled by holding the button at the screen and accessing the user menu, the adaptive suction is the more important factor anyway in saving battery life whilst giving a good clean

So? That's because there's dust in there. It's obviously not an issue and is cleaned when emptied as explained and demonstrated in the video. My V15 makes a motor-like noise when I turn it on.

I just realized this is UK exclusive. You can't get these in the US. We have the V15 but not plus. We get the absolute plus, which is slightly less powerful but bigger.
Seems you may have been misled, there's no difference between the Absolute and Absolute Plus suction power, only tools and accessories. The larger Outsize model is a larger V11 with the laser fluffy head for reference :)

I never recommend people buy anything specific. It's their money and their decision. All I do is provide information to make an informed decision, devoid of marketing deception and half-truths. The V15 is about ot be superseded by the Gen5Detect, so if a buyer's objective is to have 'the best/latest', then best wait for that. Otherwise, if they want something less expensive and good, then the V15 is sensible.

Doesn't seem like the self scraping shroud did a very good job cleaning the shroud at 15:04. I'm not hating, but just pointing it out. I just bought a V15 so I'm just watching reviews while waiting for it!
If extremely soiled like it was, a couple of swipes in all of 1 second clears it. Also, even if you don't, it's loosened so the air removes much of it. The purpose is to remove the accreted material so there's space for air to pass through. The brilliant design in the future models is fundamentally changing this as well to avoid the problem of shroud clogging entirely.

I recall a hostile rabid vacuum enthusiast commenter once bragging how their favoured brand of cleaner was far better at filtration than the Dyson machines. No evidence was of course provided, and when a fact-check occurred, it turned out to simply be basic H13 grade (99.97% >= 300 nm removal)-FAR below the filtration performance of modern Dyson machines and relatively polluting in comparison. The last death throes claim of that particular rabid vacuum enthusiast evaporating back into the aether of falsehoods from where they reside.

I've always found it laughably ironic listening to complaints that you need light to "see where you're vacuuming" and hence why pointless headlights on some non-Dyson products are 'useful', yet people are now turning the lights off so they can see the dirt they're trying to clean up (apparently oblivious to the fact that the more harmful dust is microscopic and invisible to the human eye by definition). xD

A WARNING TO ALL DYSON USERS: Do not under any circumstances vacuum up any fine white powders/particles with your Dyson vacuum. It will kill the motor and it is NOT covered under the warranty. This includes things like white powder carpet cleaners (carpet fresh, etc), baby powder, baking soda, cornstarch, etc. I learned the hard way.

This is deeply misleading. The manual details clearly what can and can't be done. Sucking up ultra fine powders in very large quantities (e.g. an entire mountain spillage) is not recommended, but can be cleaned in smaller trace quantities, such as may be found normally in the home. If you spill a mountain, scoup most of it up before getting the last bits with a vacuum. And your claim 'it will kill the motor' is simply false. There's a filter in the way for the very purpose of avoiding this. That will get clogged and simply needs rinsing if so. I killed a dyson ball vac by sucking up plaster dust whilst cutting out downlights in the ceiling with a holesaw. Ive told many people now NOT to do that 🤦♂️
@@drewymuller3286 I don't believe sucking up dried plasterboard dust from a single job damaged the motor. That makes no sense. The pre-motor filter blocks small particles to prevent this. Only complete and long term neglect would result in motor damage. This is not a concern for 99.9+% of users.
Thanks for your reply. Well, we took the dyson to the repair man and when he opened it up he asked "Have you been sucking up plaster dust with this vacuum?".. and he also stated that "sucking up plaster dust is the worst thing to do with a vacuum."
So im taking his advice and telling the story. Hopefully someone will read this and save themself time and money 🙏 Im sure a small amount would be fine with the pre motor filter but we cut about 10 holes with a 90mm holesaw until it died. Only 1year old vac, domestic use. Maybe the were was a bad seal somewhere who knows but now its in the bin
Often vacuum repair shops don't have a full understanding of how these machines work and draw the wrong conclusions. Plenty of evidence on my channel how much fine dust they can cope with. It's simply not true they can't cope. Uncured plaster dust (distinct from post-cured) is definitely harmful because it can solidify in the machine, but other fine dust simply ends up on the filter causing it to block, which is rinsable. Modern Dyson machines detect this and warn the user. It's a non-issue short of complete and utter neglect nowadays.

The dyson may be able to exhaust such great levels of filtration but as soon as that “seal” is broken by emptying the bin or washing a dust covered filter, you’re defeating the purpose of having such high levels of filtration in the first place.. as opposed to the Sebo for example which has a bag you can seal with a cap allowing much less dust to escape when changing the bag. I don’t imagine many users will take their machine outside to empty or wash the dusty filter outside to avoid re-contamination of their indoor air. Btw I love the in-depth review and do love this product! I absolutely want to try one for myself. I used to have a V10.

So you’re telling me that washing a filter covered in dust is cleaner than popping a bag out and throwing it in the bin? I've no allegiance to Dyson, as stated many times. I focus on the best technology I am able to evidence. Rinsing a filter doesn't project dust into the air (it's wet in case it wasn't obvious) and you're washing your hands in the process. >_> There are massive disadvantages to bags you're glossing over, despite them all being pointed out in the previous link. You simply have no argument here. You're scraping the barrel again, trying to tribalistically chalk up points. Rotating motor head cuts out when in boost mode, 2 days old
Assuming I believe you; almost every one elses doesn't; years old! It's under warranty for this very reason. Anecdotes like this never come with evidence of how to reproduce it from scratch, so you can never be sure what *really* caused the alleged failure.
In fact, why are you using boost mode for anything other than a major local spillage? You're not supposed to as you'll reduce the service lifetime of the battery. The brushbar is designed to cut out if the suction is too strong for your particular carpet, causing it to be sucked into the head. In such cases, you're supposed to use auto mode and open the gates until this effect stops. It's all in the manual. Did you bother to read it and educate yourself, or just throw the knowledge away after those 2 days?
At 6:04 you state all dyson machines have whole machine HEPA filtration. This is not true. If you state other companies are misleading, I smell a bit of hypocrisy here.
I didn't state that "all dyson machines have whole machine HEPA filtration". I said Dyson's machines, obviously referring in context to their modern ones and the ones clearly listed as having that. Their machines have been fully sealed since the DC41 at least and probably earlier. Please can you provide the evidence why you think this is false and why Dyson mains and modern cordless machines (V10 onwards) are not sealed? This is just to check the hypocrisy you smell isn't actually your own, deriving from a petty desire to pull the rug and cause trouble for no reason.

thanks, appreciate a good review of a good product. i wish more people in cordless vacs, they are essentially tech products with plenty room for improvement.
1. agree on the mattress tool. while it is wider, it will do a poor job vs motorized tool which can get to trapped dust/dust mites
2. the laser is not a gimmick. you just need to vacuum in lower light or later in the day to see dust. i am unlikely to vacuum without a floor light on the head.
3. 13:30 true. we need to get rid of fluffy/soft roller head. if you look into more footage, you will find some particles shooting far away from the tool. personal xp, it also eats into thin rugs, small toys, etc..
4. copycats should start designing things on their own than simply copy Dyson. while cheap copycats that costs a fraction of a Dyson makes sense, the flagship ones that almost like costs a Dyson does not.
Copycats exist because of regressive capitalism: get rich at the expense of other people by shortcutting, cheating, and leeching off the hard work of your betters.
RE: 2. That is a deeply unconvincing argument for why the laser is not of little use and addresses absolutely nothing specifically raised in both reviews now. Colour me completely unconvinced.
@@VacuumFacts yeah. while the stick/gun style cordless is good for sleek looks and one handed use, it also has many drawbacks. I've seen some variations of it but I wish more companies try harder otherwise I'd do it myself.😅 I already have ideas but creating and maintaining company is hard work and stress.
while I consistently vacuum with a pattern and overlaps, it is satisfying to see dust sucked off the hard floor. Vacuum Wars channel was not convinced with the laser on his first review but lately he's getting it.
For practical purposes when you know how to use it, I've seen no significant drawbacks and would never use a mains/upright (or clone) ever again now. The advantages of the better stick vac formfactor provided, dwarf any minor irrelevancies (like not standing upright on its own). The Vacuum Wars channel has no redeeming qualities I'm able to identify (popularity being no virtue).

That's a half-truth troll comment with clear antagonistic undertones. Dyson are 'the best' on the market and if someone peddles a gimmick which isn't that useful, but yet appears to be, then they have to do it as well. This was a case of Dyson 'copying' Shark, as discussed in the video. But what you didn't mention, despite it being mentioned in the review, is that Dyson's copy 'clone' was actually an improvement, rather than a cheap kludge which doesn't work as well as the original idea (cough...dual roller, cough, rip-off cyclones etc.).
