My V15 detect is about a year old and I have only 2-3 times ran out of battery. These were in some very heavy use situations when abusing this to vaccum up an outdoor shed. Still has great suction and works perfectly. I would recommend getting a 2nd filter and swapping it out when cleaning so you don't have to wait for it to dry to clean again. I would also recommend the optional free-standing charger. Lives perfectly in our laundry room.
I bought a V12 several months ago to supplement my Kenmore canister vacuum. Now I’ve decided to donate my Kenmore and get a second V12 so I have one for each floor of the house. I used to hate vacuuming and now I love doing it daily.
I live in a small apartment and have the V12. The V12 has a smaller canister and it’s so lightweight and easy to use, I actually use it almost every day. I love the V12.
@@amaia160V12 has 500 and something watts and V15 has 600 and something, not too much of a difference - and if you already bought V12 how can you compare? As it makes no sense to me to buy V15 as well especially that V15 is almost 1000 euro
I think an important part was perhaps missing from the review. I have the same model discussed in the video for one year, and one thing that has been happening is the rollers (little wheels or drum wheels) under the two main floor cleaning tools have been loosing their bearings. Hair and other things get tangled in them and it is very difficult to clean those small wheels/drums. Ease of movement on the floor has been diminished compared to first days significantly. It is way more work to vacuum now. Even after spending an hour to clean them they don't roll as smoothly and freely anymore.
I think I saw in someone else's video that I was looking at where they showed how to take that apart and clean it - it looked pretty straightforward and then it was clean and good as new again for as long as it takes to get bound up again. Not perfect but at least it's pretty easily fixable!
I’m sold on the V 15 can’t wait to make thr purchase on Prime day in july . Also, I did some research and Amazon carries a control clamp for the trigger switch, so you don’t have to hold the power button while you vacuum
I just purchased a v15 detect (via eBay) few weeks ago and appreciate you sharing this. I love a lot of things about it, but that power button gets hit accidentally by me all the time. Thank you.
I didn’t know about this. Can you provide a link to this product? My sister and I have arthritis in our fingers continung to hold this button down us hard.
I LOL when you talked about vacuuming in the dark due to the laser. I was a bit embarrassed & thought it was only my little secret. It's just satisfying to see everything cleaned up throughly! ❤
Yes, the laser light is everything you said. I couldn’t believe how filthy my floors were, when I first used the V15 because I had just used the robot, earlier and had mopped, the day before. I have no regrets purchasing this vacuum.
This is some quality content right here! Great job, and thank you for taking the time to share your long term experiences! It's really great that Dyson switched to a swappable battery - that was the one thing that really killed their earlier models. If they died, you'd have to replace them or take them apart to replace the battery or take it in to a service center. It's nice being able to just buy a new battery and throw it in (and be able to have spares in case you need longer use).
Listen my cleaning Guru! You are not a freak when talking about the laser on the Dyson vacuum . I would love to have a cool vac like that! And I get satisfaction when I vacuum. You do you! We really appreciate you!!😊
Commenting before I watch the video. My 20-year-old Dirt Devil, which was too heavy for my apartment and never sucked that great to begin with, is now truly dead; and my first thought was, "I wonder what vacuum Melissa Maker uses?" All of which is to say, I have re-learned how to clean from your videos and I trust your opinions implicitly. Thank you. Edit: it appears mine did not come with a soft dusting brush or the upholstery crevice tool.
I have the V15 and I vacuum in the dark with the laser on. It gets the floors so much cleaner that it takes longer for anything to reaccumulate on the floors, including pet hair, and I have to vacuum a lot less often. Those dog hair tumbleweeds in the corners? The dogs don’t shed there. Those accumulate from all the dog hairs scattered across the floor that you don’t see. This thing is for real. I’ve also had mine for 2 years - no battery problems, no loss of suction. I was one of those people that had an earlier cordless Dyson and said never again because of the battery. This one lasts.
Thank you Melissa for a fantastic review of the Dyson’s. I would love to hear how these newer Dyson’s hold up against the classic vacuum sour smell after time? Thank you in advance. Steve 0:21
I got one on sale for 600. Still cannot believe I spent that much for a vacuum but loving it so far. I just hope it lasts awhile. I had an Electrolux for over 20 years before the motor burned out.
One of THE best reviews I've seen. As I've been perusing Dyson for a new upgraded vacuum (our 9 year old model, Dyson V6 Animal is petering out, losing suction), out of the various models, I had decided on the Dyson V15 Detect (Absolute) before seeing this. But now, after seeing your review, I am completely sold! Awesome job. Very thorough (which I like). Not to mention, you're fun and extremely pleasant to boot (made me laugh multiple times). By the way, I totally get the draw to want to 'play glo-in-the-dark vacuuming', So, you're not a "freak", lol. Again, thanks so much, Melissa, for an outstanding review! 🙂
Who wouldn't want to play glo-in-the-dark vacuuming, right? It's the new trend! Glad you enjoyed the review and found it helpful. Thanks for watching and I love my V15! Melissa
Maybe they changed what comes in the box but I just ordered the V15 Detect Absolute version and it only lists 1 battery on the Dyson website. I originally was going to go with the submarine but decided against it since the V15 Absolute was on sale and I got for roughly 40% less than the sub model!
I have a Shark and I got the one I did because when I used to watch my best friend’s house, you couldn’t see the white dog hair on the white floor but when you’d go to vacuum …Holy cow!!! The light on the front was everything. I always thought “what is the use of a light on a vacuum? Who doesn’t turn on the lights with their vacuuming?“ now I know! I would sometimes leave the hall light off so that I could see everything that was there and what was getting picked up.
YESSS!! I turn the lights off to use the light also! I used to have to turn all the lights on & it would get so hot in my house & I would hate it & end up not doing anything else after I vacuumed😅 I don't have that excuse anymore & tbh I'm not mad about it😂😂
I just bought a refurbished 1 year warranty one for $700 in Canada. The dealer says all parts were replaced. The dealer has very high ratings. I hadn’t thought of looking for. Refurbished one. My sister bought one directly from Dyson Canada a few months ago. She loves it. One of her neighbours has the same model and one has an older model. I realize $999 sounds like a lot. Do look for refurbished. The laser light is amazing to use if you have animals or like me you have hair loss, or sew/quilt. Sewing leaves behind alot of fabric fluff.
Hi Melissa, Dyson has a sale at the moment with the gen5 and v15 at the same price in Australia ... I'm a bit torn, the v15 has more accessories but i'm wondering whether it's worth going to the gen5 for the automatic on button. Any chance you'd be willing to share your thoughts? I will mainly use on hard floors and for dusting my plantation style louvers. TIA.
I have the smaller dyson and I am trying to decide on a larger model as we have a 3 story house and 2 dogs:) So will look for some more comparision videos on your channel! so helpful! thank you!
I actually bought the V11, but refurbished one to save money, a few weeks after your initial video 2 years ago. LOVE the vacuum. It was def worth every penny, but yeah, I do agree the push trigger is the most annoying part. No pets for me, just my adult lady hair naturally falling everywhere and regular house dust. If this one ever breaks, I'll def buy the newest version that is push to start.
That's an awesome vacuum!! I still have a V6 and since I live in under 1,000 square feet, I can vacuum it all and still have battery left. I definitely would buy a larger Dyson if I lived in a larger home.
I’m sorry to say I wasted more time taking apart and cleaning the flimsy attachments which cannot be cleaned with soap. The easy dump dust bin requires you to put your hand into the dust basket to remove hair and other gross stuff. The so called hepa grade filter is useless if you need to clean it by hand. I’ll be picking up a new Miele at twice the power and half the price. The hepa bags are pricy but they entirely seal everything inside the bag with a strong rubber gasket between uses there are also additional hepa grade filtered between the bag an motor and exhaust
I've always been a big Dyson fan and just upgraded my v11 to the v15 extra. Like always? Love it. 🎉 Dyson is built to last. If you're thinking of getting a vacuum, get the upgraded models? The lower Dyson vacuum models? Would recommend saving for the v15 or up, skip all the v8 or anything lower than the v15 models. Yes, it's more, but it would be a vacuum that will be working for year's 🎉
Only have 2 times when my Dyson V11 acts up... first when I need to clean the filter and second when something is stuck in the intake to the holding area - sucked up something I shouldn't have. Battery works well even after several years - lasts 20-30 mins which is more than enough
I just got my V15 yesterday. I love it! Also, the V15 has full HEPA filtration, not just the Gen5. The aqua filter housing on the Gen5 was mostly a way to distinguish them visually.
?? Are the attachments, including the tube extender, interchangeable between your three models? Just wondering since I'm considering a purchase and then may upgrade in a few years.
Is v15 heavy ? In a sense when doing stairs or couch . As thinking of getting v12 or v15 . As I like button not always pressing trigger . But I like bigger bin .but I love all the attachment of v15
A legit user, it seems. This video is absolutely the easiest way for me to see how to upgrade my Dyson at this house. Super beneficial on the trigger info and told. That hair tool!
2 hours of usage with those 2 batteries only on the Eco mode which is kind of weak - at least it's mentioned like this, so around 60 min per battery, for the V12 that my mum just bought
I have the v11. It is almost 3 years old. It works well. I have found a clean filter improves the suction of the Dyson I clean mine at least twice a month.
Great video! I was all set on the v15 until you showed the gen 5 with its power button and hepa filter. What to do??? PS this would be my 4th dyson but first stick vac.
so it cant vacuum up popcorn?? im wanting one of these BUT my family eats popcorn 2-3 times a week and i have a 2 year old so is this not going to be a good choice now??
Great update, our friends got a V12 because of the on/off switch and lighter, we are really considering the V15, but hesitate because of the trigger switch. Is the switch really o.k.?
I have the V11 Pet Pro. The only problems that I have had is of course, pet hair clogging the roller and user error clogs that are easily cleared. I would love it if they would also supply an additional filter so that when we have to clean it and wait 24 hrs, we have a backup to use while the other one is drying.
I bought this last year because of u. I had a rainbow vacuum and swore by it. Now its just collecting dust in the garage. I live love love my dyson v15. 😊
I had Rainbow in the 80's then after living in the Azores for 4 years (90-100% humidity all year) then back to TX, EVERYTHING that was plastic disintegrated.
Now that you’ve gotten to play with the gen5 what are your thoughts. I’m between the v15detect and the gen5detect outsize. I’m upgrading from a v10 and the only reason I’m considering the gen5detect outsize is the larger bin size but I’m afraid it would be awkward and more heavy. Would love your thoughts since you have had your hands on both. :)
I have a v8 and I love it. I have replaced the original battery but I have 1k square foot house and can vacuum in 15 minutes. I love the fact I am not tripping over a cord and easy to transport to clean my car. I have just replaced the canister and the motor head also.
I am so glad you mentioned having to hold the "trigger" on the handle to keep it turned on. I would not be able to do that with my hand. I have a weed trimmer like that and I have to take mini breaks because it hurts my hand holding the trigger button. I need a vacuum with an on/off switch so I don't constantly have to squeeze the handle. Thank you!
The thing is that you don’t feel like you are holding the trigger or button, I even some times turn it on by mistake when I just want to take the vacuum to the room I wNt to clean, that’s how soft or easy it is.
Thank you for this!! I still have the v7 and im happy with it still!! Cant go on high power but dont need to anyway 😊 as soon as it goes to vacuum heaven ill grab this one 😊❤
Hi I dont know but I have dogs and my dog is now having breathing issues from mites- look into getting a vaccum with a HEPA filter- wish I knew this when I got my first vacuum
In fact if you look at HENRY Hoovers you can see it has a history of cleaning coal, oil, and gas fire boilers and most builders today use them as they are great at sucking up dirt, dust and debris. Including large chunks of mess like concrete on a building site. They also have a HEPA filter (check model for yourself though). It is designed and manufactured in England. The above ^^^ is just an example of a vacuum you might find suitable for cat litter, clumpy debis and dust and allergens The ‘laser technology’ in a dyson isn’t necessary- my current VAX vacuum has just a light which works even better than that (honestly incredible) and is less than half the price of a Dyson. Shame the model I have doesn’t have a HEPA filter as I love the light on it actually hahaha. It all depends on what you want. Good luck and hope you find something that ticks all the boxes! 🦄
I have the outsize and i have had clog trouble where dirt enters the canister, but like you said it operator. 😂 Also have trouble disassembly canester for cleaning. But maybe it just with the usa model.
I’m afraid the run time is only 60 minutes when on Eco. If one has carpets like me, it will only run for 17 - 20 minutes with the machine on Auto/medium and you have carpet and use the motorized brush head.
I love Dyson products. I just replaced my old Animal upright vacuum with a Dyson V15 Detect and I'm loving it being cordless. So much easier and lighter than my old vacuum. There are 2 things that I don't like about the new vacuum in comparison to my old vacuum cleaner: 1) the carpet bristle brush does not clean as deeply as my old vacuum cleaner, it just doesn't. It cleans well, but just not as deep. 2) It has a smaller bin size, so I have to empty it more often. I have to empty the bin 2 to 3 times if I'm vacuuming the entire house. With that said, I am still happy I ditched my old vacuum. I would not replace the new one with a larger bin because I'm older and lighter is better. The trigger doesn't bother me, but I think it is an improvement that they have changed the trigger to the on/off button going forward. I love the laser light. It is really helpful to see all the dirt you could be missing. I was worried about how long a charge would last and I am happy to report that I have never had it run out of a charge while I'm vacuuming. That is a huge plus. So, overall my new Dyson V15 Detect is a wonderful vacuum cleaner and I highly recommend it.
I have 2 Dyson one big with a cord and a older cordless model. Both about 9 to 10 years old. Now its time for the battery and some filrers to be replaced.
In Europe most come without a spare battery. And in the US and Canada also I think. But remember: this sort of battery are expensive, so I think Dysons with spare battery cost a lot more..
I have the Dyson v15 and I love it, however has anyone else had issues with the LCD button not working, the vacuum randomly cutting off on full charge, as well as the “detect” feature where the suction adjusts depending on how much dirt it detects not working?
I love my V15 detect but my biggest gripe is the hard floor head. The wheels on it are so small that hair gets easily stuck in them and it’s a pain in the ass to get it out. Anyone have any tips to clean out those tiny wheels?
We have 2 well 3 as first one was demoted to the garage as it was a very early one the other 2 are just right for we have 3500ft house with stairs and between them there’s enough battery and I put them on high allot
Trigger is one problem, the other one is weight distribution. it is very tiring, because majority of weight is at hand, not on the floor. Should do something like Miele.
I don't know why people have a problem with the trigger. I've used our Vsomething for five years and it's no issue. And if you need to carry something in you other hand (baby) it is way better that you can operate the vacuum with one hand only.
Seriously hoping that we will see you review the new Gen5 Submarine. I think we're getting ready to replace our 7 yr. old V8 in the near future and would love to have something to conveniently help to keep our hardwood floors clean. I trust your takes on all things cleaning and won't pull the trigger until I hear what you have to say!
I just bought the old V6 animal model I undid 2 screws and replaced the old 3500ma upgraded to a 5000 ma battery, I also replaced the old backing for a new HEPA filter all for £60 quid that includes the v6
I could really justify the price of the Gen 5 since my V6 lasted so long but I don't think I need all that functionality. That laser is the game changer though!
Happy Friday to everyone who is watching this right now! 🌻
You as well Melissa!

Dyson vacuums are over $999 in Australia. It looks like a fabulous cleaner, but the price is way over my budget.
They are overrated. Too expensive. It's insane.
Lookout for a Dreame R20 or a Shark IZ400/IZ420. Way more bang for buck in my opinion.
Do you have Costco down under? 🦘They have v15 for $549 USD (approx AUS $830)

I just bought a V15 last week. I love it so far. But mine did not come with an extra battery! What the hell? Did they change that?
Congratulations! Excellent presentation ! I learnedd a lot.
Best Dyson review online! Dyson needs to hire her for R & D she would be very helpful to the engineers

2 hours of usage with those 2 batteries only on the Eco mode which is kind of weak - at least it's mentioned like this, so around 60 min per battery, for the V12 that my mum just bought
I have the v11.
It is almost 3 years old.
It works well.
I have found a clean filter improves the suction of the Dyson
I clean mine at least twice a month.
Cleaning it on the regular is key! Thanks for watching :)
Great video! I was all set on the v15 until you showed the gen 5 with its power button and hepa filter. What to do??? PS this would be my 4th dyson but first stick vac.
Does this vacuum work for dog hair like golden retriever and husky? The hair of my dogs get stuck in the current vacuum I have and on the roomba.
Brilliant for dog hair. Our beagle sheds like a Woolies and it works very well.
I love my Dyson, had it for 8y l, obviously way older model but really want to upgrade to cordless. This was very helpful😃
Looking to upgrade to a stick Dyson to make it easier cordless. Have you tried the new submarine style.?
..?.
so it cant vacuum up popcorn?? im wanting one of these BUT my family eats popcorn 2-3 times a week and i have a 2 year old so is this not going to be a good choice now??
I have a sebo canister E3 and looking for a stick vac as a companion. Mixed carpet and LVP. What is the best stick on the market?
Great update, our friends got a V12 because of the on/off switch and lighter, we are really considering the V15, but hesitate because of the trigger switch. Is the switch really o.k.?
Also a design defect to me is, it plugs Easy! Up to the body of the canister Unless I have an old fashioned coat hanger… I’m stuck
I have the V11 Pet Pro. The only problems that I have had is of course, pet hair clogging the roller and user error clogs that are easily cleared. I would love it if they would also supply an additional filter so that when we have to clean it and wait 24 hrs, we have a backup to use while the other one is drying.
just buy a corkscrew anti tangle brush
I just ordered V15 submarine... the first one was used, there was dust all over it...i hope the second round is brand new
I have a v8 and I love it. I have replaced the original battery but I have 1k square foot house and can vacuum in 15 minutes. I love the fact I am not tripping over a cord and easy to transport to clean my car. I have just replaced the canister and the motor head also.
I just think that Dyson vacuums are beautiful and work perfectly
I am so behind. I am still using my V6. Replaced the worn out battery a couple of years ago.
V7 going strong!! Thanks for watching :)
Love my v15 and your videos 👍💜💜💜
Looks like the v15 has found a loyal fan! Glad you're loving both the vacuum and the videos!
Help! I have multiple cats and have lots of cat fur and cat litter issues. Which is better for my needs gen5 or v15? Thank you
Hi I dont know but I have dogs and my dog is now having breathing issues from mites- look into getting a vaccum with a HEPA filter- wish I knew this when I got my first vacuum
To be honest I wouldnt just look at dyson. She is most likely sponsored by Dyson,
In fact if you look at HENRY Hoovers you can see it has a history of cleaning coal, oil, and gas fire boilers and most builders today use them as they are great at sucking up dirt, dust and debris. Including large chunks of mess like concrete on a building site. They also have a HEPA filter (check model for yourself though). It is designed and manufactured in England.
The above ^^^ is just an example of a vacuum you might find suitable for cat litter, clumpy debis and dust and allergens
The ‘laser technology’ in a dyson isn’t necessary- my current VAX vacuum has just a light which works even better than that (honestly incredible) and is less than half the price of a Dyson. Shame the model I have doesn’t have a HEPA filter as I love the light on it actually hahaha.
It all depends on what you want.
Good luck and hope you find something that ticks all the boxes! 🦄
11:30 credibility skyrocketing for this reference 😂
If you had to pick this or the gen 5 detect ? Which one would you choose ?
I have the outsize and i have had clog trouble where dirt enters the canister, but like you said it operator. 😂 Also have trouble disassembly canester for cleaning. But maybe it just with the usa model.
So what’s the verdict now between the v15 vs Gen5?
Do all of v15 detects come with a replacement/spare battery? Mine didn't come with one, and now I'm wondering if they sent me a returned one.
In Europe most come without a spare battery. And in the US and Canada also I think. But remember: this sort of battery are expensive, so I think Dysons with spare battery cost a lot more..
what are some work arounds for the trigger?
Thank you very much.
I LOVE my V15, and I have tried a ton of vacuums. It’s the best!
Great review. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Let us know what else you would like reviewed!
I have the Dyson v15 and I love it, however has anyone else had issues with the LCD button not working, the vacuum randomly cutting off on full charge, as well as the “detect” feature where the suction adjusts depending on how much dirt it detects not working?
So perfectly said!
Can you recommend a tool for cleaning the vacuum? By the way, this review was great, and really helpful, thanks!
I love my V15 detect but my biggest gripe is the hard floor head. The wheels on it are so small that hair gets easily stuck in them and it’s a pain in the ass to get it out. Anyone have any tips to clean out those tiny wheels?
Cleaning it right now tweezers and needle. Pain in the ass!!
I have the v12 and I turn off the lights when I vacuum too. The laser is awesome!
I would totally vacuum in the dark if I had that model of Dyson!😂
It's soooooooo fun!
Omg please tell me that for that high of a price point it has a lifetime warranty. Their prices are insanely elitist.
We have 2 well 3 as first one was demoted to the garage as it was a very early one the other 2 are just right for we have 3500ft house with stairs and between them there’s enough battery and I put them on high allot
"demoted to the garage" made me lol
Thx for awesome video!👍
Thanks for watching it!
Would you tell me the V15 detect total clean come with 2 batteries?
I finally got a Dyson! Thanks for the lesson!!
I got mine 2 years ago too! I love it, I have the outsize one and got the laser head separately lol 😂
My DC01 from 1997 just broke. Its fixable but it's too heavy for me now. Boy have I had my monies worth out of that machine.
Wow! That's got to be a collector's item at this point 😀
I know loads of people who still there heavy ones I love the lead free ones it’s no bother to hoover (what we say in the UK
My trigger just broke in my V11. I heard it happens often. I recommend the newer models without trigger.
The head for hard floors - Does that work on kitchen floors - seems like it would get grimy
i think i getting dyson, i bought tineco floor one s5 it didnt last me even 6 months it is so bad that i dont even want to bother about warranty.
How's the weight?? I'm concidering this vacuum
Thanks for this. My faithful V6 is giving her swansong!
Oh no!!!! What were you thinking of getting next?
I could really justify the price of the Gen 5 since my V6 lasted so long but I don't think I need all that functionality. That laser is the game changer though!
