I've seen so many documentaries about the Calciopoli scandal but your video has proven to me that my knowledge of the subject barely scratches the surface. The level of detail and intricacy in this video is head and shoulders above anything I've seen before. It's clear that you went to a great deal of effort in creating this masterpiece and I hope the algorithm rewards you for it!

whaat ? You know that Collina had private dinners in the day off of the restaurant with Leando Meani , one of the collaborators of Galliani ( Vice President of AC Milan ) . Meani had no official position at AC Milan , so Leandro Meani paid instead of AC Milan , and this lead a lesser penalization for Rossoneri and the partecipation of 2006-07 UCL that they won .

This is an incredible documentary. I knew very little about the Italian football scandal before watching this, and I have been given an 80-minute master class on what happened. It's crazy to think that one team decided to expose the corruption of others while simultaneously committing the same acts they were accusing others of doing, all to benefit themselves. What a weird, twisted web of lies and deceit. Truly this could have been a Mob movie series.

Kudos for a remarkably informative and unbiased in-depth analysis of a shameful chapter of Italian football.
As a lifelong neutral fan of Serie A (despite being Italian myself), I've always found Calciopoli 50% Revenge Porn orchestrated by Inter higher-ups and 50% "fake system reset" where Juventus themselves took a bullet for the whole team, as Moggi had clearly become too big for his britches and his power was jeopardizing the entire football scene in Italy.
The system got rid of him, giving the general public the impression the days of rampant corruption were over. Inter fans felt vindicated and the club enjoyed their short time in the sun. Juve bounced back quickly under new management (I suggest you the power shift from the Agnellis to the Elkanns as material for another video). Football went back to its usual "honestly corrupt" ways without Big Luciano acting as the de facto Godfather.

@@DanRenoyasFootballStories I'm from Italy and also here to most, but the staunchiest Juve fans, Calciopoli begins and ends with "Moggi was a mafioso, Juventus had the refs in their pocket". It had been THE rumour and the go-to excuse for the losing teams for decades (Check the controversy around the 80-81 and 81-82 Scudettos, with two famous disallowed goals).
So when the investigation became public, everyone but Juve fans felt vindicated and nobody cared about anything else but to see Juve punished. Inter just orchestrated it perfectly, feeding off the general dislike toward Juventus around the country.

This video does well to highlight Napoli's performances with Maradona in the 1980s including the two Serie A title wins. Less well known is the story of the 1987-88 season, during which Napoli had a comfortable lead but won only 2 of their last 10 games and let the title slip. They had been ordered to do so by the Camorra because the Camorra were set to lose heavily if Napoli took the title. Loads of Napolitans had bet on Napoli winning the title and, because they controlled betting in Naples, the Camorra were set to pay out on the bets if Napoli won.

I am italian and born in 2002. I was too little back then to remember what happened, but through the years I kept hearing my dad, who is a diehard juventino, talk about this scandal and how Juve was unjustly penalised. As a Juventino myself, I never knew what to make of all of this. I have never been one to believe in conspiracy theories and I have always thought my dad was too biased when he talked about what happened. I've been curious to learn more from different sources, but it was just seemingly impossible to find unbiased ones. This video is all I have been looking for all these years. Turns out all parties were in the wrong, and Juve was just the perfect scapegoat. Reality's always much more complex than one might think.

As a Man United fan, I was happy to see AC Milan win the Champions League given that they weren't great that season in the league and were playing really amazing in the Champions League that season as it seemed like their last chance to win it with an aging squad. Firstly, fantastic work… Italy is a very complicated place nothing is black or white and the referee scandal was something everyone was involved in, juventus is the most hated team in Italy and if you don’t make sure you don’t get sent corrupted referees… but everyone paints juventus like they were buying matches instead of protecting themselves… this was meant to stay a secret to the outside world but once it leaked it was the perfect opportunity to control it and make your rivals suffer… inter were equally involved and manipulated everything as you mentioned… unfortunately people outside Italy see juventus as the most evil team in the world and inter as saints and this is something that is not gonna change any time soon… the corruption is still very much alive, if you research the latest juventus scandal about the transfer market we’re only juventus got punished for something that wasn’t even illegal and the other parties involved were all innocent… which proves that is was a punishment for the betrayal to uefa on trying to create the super league… it all goes so deep but people don’t want learn how corrupt the whole system is….

Hi, thanks for this video! It's very interesting, unfortunately where there is money and power there is often corruption. You were neutral, not making Juve look like a saint but not even as the only one responsible. Unlike many others.
Unfortunately this corruption is driving many away from football, and I admit that my passion is slowing down too.
I wanted to ask you if you could bring a documentary on Inter in the 60s, as far as I know they won a lot thanks to doping, paid referees and fixed matches. Two of their former players revealed these things. I think that in the 60s and 70s doping was a big problem, because perhaps there weren't the laws we have now. I hope everything is cleaner now.

I went into it wondering if you were going to cover the Inter angle as this largely went unreported back in 2011 when it broke that Inter was heavily involved in the scandal and had the Telcom network targeting their rivals. @@DanRenoyasFootballStories well, doping wasn't covered in this particular Juventus time, but i'm sure you know about the allegations. Porto has had lots of suspicion about that, specially if you look at 80s and 90s games, they seem to had supernatural strength. A few former players have even brought bigger suspicion after they retired. And the loss of hair on many of those players. 😂
Now, to the calciopoli similarities, they too bought referees with prostitutes, a key figure of the club owned 80% of prostitution clubs in Porto at one time, so they were never short of women, mostly south american.
The club president managed to be the league president for a few years, unheard of.
Those plays you highlight, the invisible pen given and the suspension of players who would play Porto next week happened week in and week out.
They had small media in favour (unlike Juventus) so they decided to coerce and even batter sports journalists who tried to blow the whistle on their modus operandi.
At one point wire taps were used too and caught referees visiting the club president's house on the eve of a Porto match he would referee. This ended up in a corruption trial, which culminated in a loss of 6 points (the championship was already over, with a 15 points lead 🤣), they didn't get relegated because the wire taps couldn't stand as proof in this type of crime.
There's literally hundreds of corruption stories with Porto, with the president, like Moggi, choosing the ref not only to his games but to his rival (Benfica) as well. Just a long, dark story full of foul play.
Great video btw, i really liked the pace and detail of your info.

In England this story began and ended with Juventus. I’m really pleased you enjoyed it mate and thank you for commenting. All the best mate and big shout out to South Africa

absolutely brilliant video, everything is so subjective and u capture the nod here and a wink there within the corridors of power in italy perfectly, everyone seemed guilty of something but nothing at the same time, hard to work out the real truth with so many moving parts and thats before u even mention the actual games of football,it was all either a giant nothing burger or the biggest corruption scandal in football history or somewhere in between, even with all the scheming and scamming its impossible to work out the real life concequences on the pitch,it may have actually changed no outcomes whatsoever,i wonder what it is about italy and italian character that make this stuff permiate every aspect of their lifes like the mafia etc more than most other countries IT SEEMS

Thank you mate I’m really glad you enjoyed the video.
I agree the whole thing was so murky it was very difficult to find where the lies end and the truth begins. Like Moggi said - either everyone was guilty or everyone was innocent.
Thanks for watching mate, all the best

I knew about everything already, but i never knew about the alleged Inter coup. And it's so suspicious for it not to be true. It was a stroke of genius from Inter if they pulled that off. It laid the foundations for their future treble.

It's an incredible story isn't it. Like a lot of people I didn't know about the Inter part in the story. In England the story began and ended with Moggi and Juventus, so when I was researching it and I came across the links to Inter I was shocked. I researched that part long and hard in case it was a conspiracy theory from Juventus fans but it was indeed true!

Maybe not the biggest. Have a look at Glasgow rangers EBT’s, years of players on two contracts so they could financially dope their squad for their success in the 90’s. And how the Scottish football association went along with it.
