- A couple of weeks ago, on April 20, 2021, singer Les McKeown of the Bay City Rollers died. McKeown was born on 12 November 1955, Edinburgh, Scotland). To commemorate him, we publish this video of one of the Rollers biggest hits.
The Bay City Rollers are a Scottish pop rock band known for their worldwide teen idol popularity in the 1970s. They have been called the "tartan teen sensations from Edinburgh" and "the first of many acts heralded as the 'biggest group since the Beatles'".
The group's line-up had many changes over the years, but the classic line-up during its heyday included guitarists Eric Faulkner and Stuart Wood, singer Les McKeown, bassist Alan Longmuir, and drummer Derek Longmuir. The current lineup (since 2018) includes original guitarist Stuart "Woody" Wood, singer Ian Thomson, bassist Marcus Cordock, and drummer Jamie McGrory.
The Bay City Rollers have sold 120 million records worldwide.

Lovely innocent, kind, sweet lyrics about love and happiness. You honestly can't beat it, and when compared with cynical modern stuff these songs still shine bright. Three minutes of pure delight.
If only we could go back to our youth.
I am 71 and. Loving all this music
R.I.P les never forget the super 70s.
Bye bye Les Mckeown R.I.P sir. The 70's were fun 😥👍
@Paul Gregory I was 10 years old in 1972. The girls at primary school loved the Rollers, the boys loved Slade. They were a bunch of Edinburgh kids that were living the dream. I've seen it said many times that not only was Tam Paton their manager a deviant, he was a crook that screwed these young lads (financially, not physically) for a lot of their royalties. They should have been set up for life. I saw Les Mckeown, Stuart Wood and Alan Longmuir at Barrowlands in Glasgow, Christmas 2015. Of the four sold out nights that version of the Rollers did, the one I was at was filmed. It appeared on TV early the following year. VERY surprised they didn't issue a live DVD/CD package. They would have earned a few quid from that. After Glasgow I don't think the planned big world tour came off. Like I said earlier, they lived the dream. Good times. Happy memories
I love you les.. Went to see you guys at the barrowlands a few years back.. Felt like 8 again..
I will never forget the cute bay city rollers!! A fun band !& no one can replace them! R.I.P. les 🙏❤️
Yes they were😊😢
@@stuartmcmillan512 Patton screwed a couple of them physically too. Les being one of them. Tried it on with Pat McGlynn who reported him.
Les here has that wonderful, carefree movement and smiles of youth. So sad to think he no longer is with us and that alas, we all lose that beautiful time where we are (we feel) invincible.
Sadly it does seem the end of an era. Brought up with this fantastic music. Always half hoped they would get back together again. Never forgotten Les and Alan.
I was a fan of BCR in the 70th. I have never had the chance to see them life and feel this rollermania. Now it's too late. It's time to say goodbye to my past. R.i.p. Thanks a lot for the teenage dreams.

RIP Les, gone far too early. This track is a belter and hardly gets the airplay it deserves.
Probably my favourite of all the rollers hits. Sometimes you only realise The True Value of a Moment When it Becomes a Memory. 😎🏴
@Garry Wood. Definitely their very best song. And the awesome summer of '74. Amazing memories!
👌
I love them all...but Maryanne was a Bside in Australia. And as a 12 year old girl....it got my eternal soul forever.

Impossible to replicate this absolute phenomenon that was is and for ever will be the Rollers
One of the best boy band's from the 70's.
You had all us teenage girls hooked.
Rip Les my favourite 😢 💔
Because their songs were all very danceable.
I wasn't even born until '94 and this is still one of my all time favourite bands.
The very fact that they're still pulling in new fans to this day should send them down in history as one of the best boy bands ever.

Yes..
Most importantly with our Creator..
@@cachoscorner5488 indeed, Amen, I never forget Him.
That’s so cool you got to meet him!
Pop music at its finest....an eternal song and band that made history even though they got ripped off.
Rip Les, you brought a lot of joy to a lot of people
I felt for Les. There was something dark and exploitative at the heart of Tam Paton’s vision for the Rollers, and Les looked really uncomfortable as the years dragged on. He didn’t fit with the other members.
@@markofsaltburn Well, I mean, it's alleged that is who raped Les...
Rip Les..... My 70s heart throb. Sleep peacefully. X❤️💋
I’m nearly 62 and still love listening to my teen idols........I went to see the band again a couple of years ago! What a blast!!!!
Me too, the best era.

rip les u will never ever be forgotten xx
RIP Les McKeown. Happy, innocent days when I fantasized about meeting the Rollers in the park opposite my house. Still have a snapshot of my sister and I looking sinister in Bay City Roller t-shirts. Bye, Bye Baby.
I made the full BCR clothing...used the yellow/ black tartan....my mother actually helped me...such good days
Im a grown man who loved the bay city rollers everyone was happy in them daysv
Apparently Tam Paton told them not to wear undies. Four of them had instruments to hide behind, but not Les.
A lot of guys' guilty pleasure I'm sure. Really good harmonies and catchy tunes.... RIP Les
So, so sad. My first love. I will always love you Les. RIP XXXXX
Cant believe I still remember the words after all these years! Great memories of great times dancing to their music. Still makes me want to dance.
It's amazing isn't it Margaret! I knew every word, yet at the time of their reign I was a young man who'd never have admitted I loved their music. For some reason the lyrics stick like glue. Magical stuff.
Margaretbasteed, …watch you don’t hurt anyone with your zimmerframe or they trip up on 24” tartan flares 😂
I rate this as their best song, it makes me so happy 😊
11 yo me had such a crush on Derek Longmuir (drummer) and guess who grew up to marry a drummer? 36 years ago and we're enjoying being grandparents.
An underrated super group, wow!!!
Lovely memories, lovely music! Thank you 💖so sad
The only pop group that exhausts any THESAURUS of sensation, phenomenon, brilliance.
Love this my favourite BCR song cameraman obsessed with their high heels keep rocking Les
The bay city rollers were and are not a pop sensation they were and are an absolute phenomenon and will be forever

BCR rule! My mom made me Roller gear from old pants in 77! Love this!
So sad to hear of your passing les thanku fir the music
Used to have such a mad crush on Les.
So very sad how Tam manipulated, abused and used them. So proud of Les coming out and speaking publically about him. Luckily, he was married to a good woman for 40 years but had deep emotional scaring.
Rest in Peace Bay City Rollersxxx
Can't beat a bit of Rollers on a Saturday Night excuse the pun ! Love it x 😊♥️❤️
So sad that Les, Alan, and Ian are gone.
Still sounds real good. Thanks Les. x
Oh boy! So many memories. I was one of the ‘older’ fans (I was already married and expecting my first child when they became famous) so not one of the ‘screaming teenage hoard’ lol but I loved these guys and their music. I was so sorry to hear that Alan had left the group and even sorrier when I heard he had passed last year. Gone too soon. R.I.P Alan 😢😍 The world isn’t the same without you xx
RIP Les, my first crush.
Mine too, that first top of the pops, i was about 13 and fell in love with him 😊
Very sad, feeling very old. ☹️
Yeah he was mine x such sad news x gone but will never be forgotten x he had such a troubled life x he just got his life back and God had to take him xRIP Les xx from another heart broken fan x 💔😢😢

The antidote to 70s nostalgia.
