The group's line-up had many changes over the years, but the classic line-up during its heyday included guitarists Eric Faulkner and Stuart Wood, singer Les McKeown, bassist Alan Longmuir, and drummer Derek Longmuir. My step-sister passed away recently, I had to play this for the memory of her. Teen beats, posters, the album. We were different in so many ways including our taste in music, when I hear or think about BCR I gotta smile. RIP Jeri Ann❤️🕊🙏🏻
I'm so very sorry for your loss. Your sister is in heaven rocking out with Alan, Ian, and Les. She's smiling big! ♥️♥️
Yes condolences, RIP to your sis!
Just saw the news of Les"s passing. Breaks my heart. Another icon of my teenage years gone. That Roller music lives on, though.
True.. very true. I was a hard rocker & Country.. I was overseas in the US Navy when they really made it big.. I had one of their albums. Just too bubble-gummy for most of their stuff.
Too young to be gone. Even at 62.

I think so.
Rest in Peace Les!! You put Scotland on the music map, absolute legend
NEVER SEEN HIM ON DRUMS
NOT OFTEN LESS ON DRUMS
I beg to differ, Joe Egan and Gerry Rafferty put Scotland on the map when they debuted as Steelers Wheel. What about Maggie Bell with Stone the Crows, let's not forget Ian Anderson who formed Jethro Tull a proud Scotsman, and finally and most important of all, Alex Harvey of the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. These are the real folks who put Scotland on the musical scene.
RIP.

Hey, don't knock it until you've danced to it. Our childhood is priceless.

wow FUN!
Absolutely 👍
This came out in 1974. I started Roller Skating when I was 13 and that was 1978
This song was on the playlist it seems every Sat Night. it was the big thing to do and I was gladly driven by Mom to the rink which was in my Hometown of Bedford NH
Round and round we went and it was the best fun!
The best times
Absolutely
1975, Grade 6, on a hayride, when the girls spontaneously began singing this song, have never forgotten that day, will never forget this song, this band, or how simple life is as a teenager. Thank you BCR for amazing music.
Yeppp,, We're getting old MyFriend 😅😅
similar thing happened to me on ride home on school bus in 1975 black lick, pennsylvania
I'm 57 now and heard this and "I Only wanna be with You"
on AM radio in the 70's when rock and roll meant a great sound.
I was born 1964.......Big sensation when they came to Japan. They were all over TV.........Greetings from Japan.
This band was my favorite band when I was a kid growing up in the 70’s. So many great memories.
It’s crazy but I think we all have a memory or two that just somehow sticks with you for no apparent reason(at a very young age) anyway I’m 55 and I can still remember back when this song came out, I was in second grade riding on the bus to school and hearing this song come on and just loving it! ❤ The memory seems like just yesterday actually..Wow 😊
Yes...isnt memory a wonderful thing...I expect u know all the words too...as long as the music is playing,,,
Same here. Walked a block to school (uphill, both ways, in a snowstorm, in Dana Point 😂), but we’re the same vintage and this really brings the memories.
Same age (ish). Warren Sand Dunes in Michigan when I was kid.
Same age. I remember this song well!! I absolutely loved it.
similar story in black lick, pa and i'm 56
When I hear songs like this I'm completely transported back in time like I've jumpe d into a time machine. I have my older sister to thank. She loved this group
I watched these guys Eva S.A.T.U.R.D.A.Y. morning on their 30 minute show.🤌🏿🤌🏿🤌🏿

R.I.P frontman.This is our youth.
God Bless him
So sad to see all my youth time legends pass on. RIP Les
My teenage years were spent listening to disco.
This was one of the most memorable songs from that era. RIP Les McKeown.
I’m sorry, I didn’t know the band members names....which member passed away?
@@maureenmcgovern6119 Les the lead singer
It doesn’t matter what year you were born, everyone loves this song, it’s one of those songs you need to hear once to like it
I heard it at school and already liked it
This song is the only reason I exist; my mom is from Japan was OBSESSED with this band and this was her favorite song. She really wanted to know whay they were singing about, which motivated her to take studying English in school seriously. She was a translator for the Ringling Brothers while they toured in Japan, and eventually moved to America where she met my dad and I was born.
If we had music playing like this on the radio today 2021. THE world would be a better place..
Agree
Ain’t that the absolute truth!❤️
I absolutly agree with you!! The world would be, its a beautiful song.
This is the kind of music that will bring people together & solve every problem in the world.
Yes, far less crappy electropop and hip hop!
We roller skated to this song! As soon as we heard the first few beats we were off the benches skating our hearts out! Wow, this sent me straight back, we were blessed, weren't we? THE best childhood !!!
Great memories.. roller skating Saturday nights to this song in the 70’s
Thank you for the music, Les Mckeown.
Saturday night will never be the same. R.I.P. Les McKeown
RIP from Belfast. U were the best.
Hey-Y'all I'm soon to be 71 - and let's Rock to this GREAT SONG
Being a young teenage girl in the mid 70s . The bay city rollers were my idols Les being my favourite. RIP Les thank you for the music ❤️
I had the trousers :|
I remember buying a giant poster of them & rushing round to my elderly neighbours to fold it out & explain who was who.
They had a lot to put up with , those neighbours ! Les was my favourite too. I wasn't quite a teen myself. Shang a Lang a yesterday
:)
Saturday,2023..
Love this era of rock & roll. This is the great music I grew with.
I was born in 1965, these guys were plastered all over my bedroom walls, got me through my preteen and teenage years, broke my heart to hear about Les McKeown death so young 💔
ME TOO!!! ❤️ same…💔
Me too, I'm 60 years old
Me too!! I am 57, can't believe I still remember all of their full names too. I had it BAD for these guys!!!😍💕💃
Same here, loved their music and still do!
Right there with you!
Rest in eternal peace Les Mckeown, thanks for all the great musical memories with the Bay City Rollers.
Man, I loved this song when I was a kid! ❤❤❤
The golden era of music. No social media, just fantastic music! Best of times.
Dude, you can give some credit to the social media for helping the unknown musicians with the free publicity (my English isn't the best but i hope you understand me)
My first rock band crush at age ten. My older sister ridiculed me half to death until I started listening to the Beatles, like her. Of course, the BCRs were heavily inspired by the Beatles, like a lot of groups. They could have been in for the long haul like the Beatles if not for that crooked pervert manager of theirs. He fancied himself a Scottish Brian Epstein but he was more of a Jimmy Savile.
this song kinda sucks though
90s was better. 😉@@MsLogjam
@@joelbizzell1386 In many respects. Clothes and hairstyles were much cooler than in the seventies and there was definitely some good music going on.

Godspeed Les McKeown 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
The Bay City Rollers singing Saturday Night was the best boy band song ever.....number 1. A Scottish boy band started it ALL....RIP Les...Godspeed.
I'm 56 and remember this song I'm grade school, those days were so innocent. How can 400 people not like this song shame on them!
Patti it was innocent cause parents never mistreated their kids not let them do what they want they were punished properly without mistreating their kids not even one bit now parents only know how to make a baby not a child
Oh Les.. thank you for the songs that made my teenage years. I loved you. Now your journey here on earth is over. Love you with all my heart.
Rest in peace Les! Thanks for the music and the memories.
God speed Les, you done good.
All over my bedroom walls back in the day. RIP Les. 😞
I had Samantha Fox on my walls. 😂😂🤣🤣
Had Les, and rest of Rollers, up on my walls and drove my folks wild with playing their Scottish songs.
Me too! My preteen angst! I had a huge crush on Derek and my friend had one on Les. Such simpler times back then.
自分が高校生の頃、よく聴いていました。ローラーズの楽曲の中で、一番好きです‼️最高ですっ!
Still lovin their music...70s live on forever...
I cannot believe it. Another nail in the coffin of my youth. RIP Les.
I liked how they put the drums and drummer up in front on the stage! Awesome! I don't think ANY other band has ever done this! It ROCKS!
That would be because it's so incredibly difficult to drum and sing at the same time that very few drummers are even singers, much less sing lead. He is incredibly talented to be able to varry this off.
Spoiler alert: He’s not the band’s regular drummer. That actually was lead singer Les McKeowan, and he was lip-syncing in this video (which was a very common practice for shows like this up through at least the 1980s). The actual drummer at the time was Derek Longmuir, who for some reason or another wasn’t present for the taping and they had Les sit in on drums. It’s not a Milli Vanilli thing, though, as Les was lip syncing to his own vocals.
If you want to watch actual singing drummers in action, check out “Up on Cripple Creek” or “The Weight” by The Band (all of the members could sing, but drummer Levon Helm was one of two with the most prominent lead vocals), or live performances of “Hotel California” by the Eagles, or live performances from Genesis (their drummer Phil Collins took over as lead singer after Peter Gabriel’s departure, although Phil no longer drums these days due to various health issues).
Umm Karen Carpenter????
The drum is the most important instrument in a band.
😂❤
I was born in 90 and found out about Bay City Rollers via a cassette I brought online! I absolutely can't get enough of this song! This song is timeless!
That's great to hear Jasmine, I got the album as a Christmas present when I was all of 13!
90 too
That's awesome.
I love it when a young person appreciates good music. 😍
@@wendyfutral3777 Definitely it shows they have great parents. No seriously though i agree with you there 100 % friend, im a kid myself hahaha 😆

When I was in 7&8 grade. There was four of us that was totally crazy for the B.C.R. we was always dressed like them, didn't care if anyone liked it, we was in our own little world...we still remember the songs, the outfits, where we were when certain songs came out..like it was yesterday...thank you for the great and silly teenagers from across the sea....they still put smiles on our faces and a tingle in our heart...
This comment hits hard. Makes me think of carefree middle school days listening to bubblegum music of the time and wearing what you want.
Sure miss those days 🙂😉
Bay City Rollers should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of fame.
Les McKeown has passed away.. hard to reconcile the young men I remember from this group to the 65 year old who is now with the Lord.
Time is a thief!
The 1970's. When music was fun...and fantastic!
I would say this is funny, but not fun. And, certainly not fantastic unless your 12.
Yeah you got that right! 😄💓
Bay city rollers best song .
@@kurtp8833 I would agree, The 1970's, when this record was 1st released had Fun & Fantastic music, if You Liston To What The Man Said.. But i don't think this was one of em' However. It did reach #1 on the U.S.

1995 here.. both my parents are in their 70s, i was blessed to grow up listening to this & the beach boys
They were the best!!!
This song was the basis for The Ramones ' Blitzkreig Bop ', as admitted by The Ramones.
This band was the basis of the Ramones. Bye bye baby, just check the cover of End Of The Century 💔
"There was a big hit by the Bay City Rollers at the time called Saturday Night, which was a chant-type song,So I thought it would be fun to do for the Ramones too. And somehow I came up with ‘Hey! Ho! Let’s go!"(Tommy Ramone)
Yeah, why not? Also, the Ramones had a good time in the 1970s. If they liked it so much to listen to Bay City Rollers, well, good for them. 🙂
