It’s not often commented on, but Hal Blaine’s simple, precise drumming really sets the tone and helps make the song. RIP, Hal Blaine, one of the great drummers of the rock era.
The drums are very loud and present in the mix, yet it sounds great because a) he listened well, b) he was really aiming to suit the music (didn't just do his personal style every time like many drummers do), and c) his judgements about WHAT would suit the music were usually spot-on. I was going to say Hal Blaine kind of made this song what it is, which is somewhat true, but then I realized that one of the best things about this song is that EVERYBODY on this recording nailed it and they ALL deserve that same credit. Doesn't happen every day.
This song is perfection and Hal’s drumming is sublime. I love how he opens up on the outro. The echo chamber, heard so greatly on the snare on the breakdown, just melts my brain when hearing it.
RIP - Ronnie Spector I was 18 years old and I was in the recording studio when Phil Spector recorded this spectacular masterpiece recording of our time and fell in love immediately with all three of The Ronettes. My grandmother used to play this song, I remember so vividly. Also, the fact that this beautiful joyful song came out right when America was facing some of its toughest times, and between 1963-1965 this was the era of the civil rights movement and the fact that both of my grandparents March with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and before marches took place my grandparents would get together with local civil rights leaders in the community and would play music and feed the community and my grandmother said this song was always a favorite amongst people. This is such a beautiful feel good song. Brings so much joy. ❤
What an amazing heritage you have! Are your grandparents still alive? They must write a book about their experiences with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and with the local civil rights leaders. This was such an important part of history, especially black history, and stories like your grandparents need to be written and handed down to future generations. My brother marched in civil rights marches as well. I was too young at the time but remember in horror seeing the police brutality of blacks on the news.

Lyrics The night we met I knew I needed you so And if I had the chance I'd never let you go So won't you say you love me? In 1963 I was 16 years old, and Be My Baby is still my favorite song. This song truly represents the mood, and innocences of that time. Shortly after that time; the music died as the British Invasion changed everything; but those of us who remember that time will forever hold those old songs in our hearts. ❤️❤️❤️
You never know how much you'll be affected by seeing one of the figures of your youth pass, but this one really hit me. I was listening to Eddie Money's 'Take Me Home Tonight' on the radio in the last week and thinking what a cool tribute it was to Ronnie. I was really taking in the different pieces she sang in the song, wondering if she voiced her parts in the studio while the rest of the song was being tracked - just really listening to it. She was *so* cool. This song was so perfectly in the groove of what was happening when it was released. Man, I hate to hear this!
I'm 70 years young and I remember when this song came out, I loved it then and I still love now. May the Angels always be with you and your sister forever.
Love this song! I consider myself an old soul despite being from the 90’s. I heard this song when I worked at Steak ‘n Shake in my teens and I grew an appreciation for these timeless songs.
I am a 90s kid to bro born in 89 you got to keep in mind in 90s and the 60s was only 20 years ago so it was really a big thing back then to hear these jams. its was time wise as far back as avril livigne skater boy is to us now in 2022.
Never got tired listening to it! The Ronettes, the Shirelles, the British Invasion music mostly the 60’s!! This era changed the music industry…fantastic!!!
Quite possibly the very best pop song of all time, as others have observed... RIP Ronnie, time to begin singing on a higher plane, upstairs (if you know what i mean...)
One of the greatest pop songs ever recorded. Phil Spector and his Wall Of Sound recording technique set the bar so high. 60 years on it still gets the old hairs on the neck standing
This song changed pop music forever! Brian Wilson was basically obsessed with it (Don't Worry Baby was a response to Be My Baby according to him) and the rest is history.
There’s something about the way she sings “Be my baby now” that just sends chills down my spine. I’m honestly surprise nobody on here is talking about the diction and tone that she used. Because it pairs hauntingly with this wall of sound beat. Tbh I’m not even sure if it is even classified as singing on that particular note. It’s more of a melancholic wail. Like she is truly yearning for whoever this guy is to just be hers. Which is given more effect and power with the vintage production.
If you really want to listen to something spine-chilling, listen to anything by Al Bowlly, the grain, the cadence, the wear and tear, and the premise of some of his songs make for a great spooky song.
I was 14 years old when this song came out growing up in the projects in New Jersey. Every time I hear it just bring back the days of my youth when radio was part of life. This song is a Classic part of starting ones teenage puppy love years!!!
My mom was humming this song when the Dr told her n my dad that she was having a beautiful bundle of joy. My dad said "a beautiful bundle of joy indeed; bcuz we are having a girl!...and sure enough I am!...🤗✨
I always loved the harmonization, back up vocals, drums and format of all these oldies, so simple but so much going on that creates such a pure sound, time to spin some records :)

Oh yes, it a great song from a best female vocalist for the oldies
What about the other 2 girls ? 😂
When i was young we dancing and singing with my grandmother this song ...
I never forget this marvelous moment in my life...❤❤😢😢
i put this song on the max volume everyday, i love it sooo much

Incredible song that never gets old. What a Huge talent.
60 years later and still a banger of a song
These ladies are awesome..right back to the sixties nothing better...
In 1963 I was 16 years old, and Be My Baby is still my favorite song. This song truly represents the mood, and innocences of that time.
Shortly after that time; the music died as the British Invasion changed everything; but those of us who remember that time will forever hold those old songs in our hearts. ❤️❤️❤️
Those damn brits!
Irish?
@@ungusbungus2486 I believe the "British Invasion" here refers to Beatlemania.
Died? It got better.
And continues to get better.
I don't mean top 40 garbage.
Ya got to search for it now.
Baby in Dirty Dancing, is that you? 😉
I never knew that! I love that song even more now. Thank you. :)
That's another iconic song featuring Ronnie Spector. RIP
She was one of a kind.
And now they’re both gone, Eddie and Ronnie.
@@richardscribner3254 Sad. I knew Eddie Money. I worked with his girlfriend in the early 70s.
The 60s: Some of the best music by some of the best musicians - of all time. Rest in Peace, Ronnie Spector.
ABSOLUTELY :)
Hello Nancy
Simply brilliant
i love this song so much
My wife of 52 years also passed in 2022. These songs always emotionally get to me...good memories but also sadness at being without her

Welcome to the “Old Soul Club” 🙋🏻♀️❤
I am a 90s kid to bro born in 89 you got to keep in mind in 90s and the 60s was only 20 years ago so it was really a big thing back then to hear these jams. its was time wise as far back as avril livigne skater boy is to us now in 2022.
Ein wahrer Klassiker !
Sublime, soulful voice captured the angst of young love. Never forgotten. R.I.P Ronnie x
Never got tired listening to it! The Ronettes, the Shirelles, the British Invasion music mostly the 60’s!! This era changed the music industry…fantastic!!!
The perfect meeting of the love of music and a highpoint of Technology before it became too powerful.
The perfect pop song.. no bullshit just straight truth.
No Vulgarity or theatrics, just straight Truth
?
Eh the trio lacked balance. Like 99% of the song was sung by one member.
this is the song that forever fucked up Brian Wilson and pushed him to create some of the best music ever made, so i think you're right.
@@luancervantes6124 what you mean?
Tysm for this iconic music💓
This'll never be shoved out of contention for being the greatest single ever recorded. It still in an instant makes the heart race. Genius.
Better than some, yes, greatest, no, not by a long shot.
Quite possibly the very best pop song of all time, as others have observed... RIP Ronnie, time to begin singing on a higher plane, upstairs (if you know what i mean...)
Not quite, but a turning point.
This song puts joy in my heart ❤️, I was a little boy when this was first out and has always been a favorite.
è molto melodica, mi fa sognare, ma allo stesso tempo mi fa vedere che il tempo è passato davvero...
Still a banger after 60 years.
Raised my children on great songs like this.
💯💯☝️
Then I must say you raised them well 👍
Hi im the result having a very good musical culture
Excellnt way to go..Oui.
Lucky kids to have u
One of the greatest pop songs ever recorded. Phil Spector and his Wall Of Sound recording technique set the bar so high. 60 years on it still gets the old hairs on the neck standing
Has been called a contender for the single most perfect pop song ever. What an incredible production on every level and so timeless!
Beautiful song
Fabulous mixing where the beat is upfront but does not overpower the vocal. This takes considerable talent in the control room! CHEERS!
U shouting out Phil?
RIP Phil, and thanks for your songs
And an itchy trigger finger :3
Larry Levine the engineer. He said the strings were so beautiful that they made him cry when he mixed it. He also recorded it
I wanted this song for my wedding and still I want it and still makes my day anytime I hear it .
Truly I never tire of it ..best pop song ever
This song changed pop music forever! Brian Wilson was basically obsessed with it (Don't Worry Baby was a response to Be My Baby according to him) and the rest is history.
Then he got obsessed with “shortening bread” or “ding dang”. Hahah.
Which is given more effect and power with the vintage production.
because it's real. She's singing what she is feeling. It's raw. It's authentic. I'm glad she got away from that man
Here here
If you really want to listen to something spine-chilling, listen to anything by Al Bowlly, the grain, the cadence, the wear and tear, and the premise of some of his songs make for a great spooky song.
The way she sticks that mic out and nods.
Very well said
The most underrated drummer in rock history.
RIP, Hal/Ronnie.
No-one gets close to the great Hal Blaine, imho. Earl Palmer, perhaps.....
B. Perdy?
@@joeoak8181 there are plenty in the same echelon (Colaiuta, Gadd, Liebezeit, Bruford) but yeah Blaine was a god.
Amen kick butt!
Jim Keltner and Hal Blaine are the studs of the 60s and 70s
I was 14 years old when this song came out growing up in the projects in New Jersey. Every time I hear it just bring back the days of my youth when radio was part of life. This song is a Classic part of starting ones teenage puppy love years!!!
What ever race they were they could sing😅
Beautiful 😍
Integrity has no need of rules, did you watch this show live?
RIP, Ronnie. God Bless You. I was a mere 18 in late 1963 when this came out. It is one of my all time favorites. It never gets old!
The Ronettes are the best female vocalist in the 60s. It's so sad to loss Ronnie.
My mom was humming this song when the Dr told her n my dad that she was having a beautiful bundle of joy. My dad said "a beautiful bundle of joy indeed; bcuz we are having a girl!...and sure enough I am!...🤗✨
My mom would listen this music, And I learned to love it as well. Great music will always remain great. Rest in peace 🙏
Love this ❤
I always loved the harmonization, back up vocals, drums and format of all these oldies, so simple but so much going on that creates such a pure sound, time to spin some records :)
A unknown girl called Cherly Sarkisian was part of backup vocals of this and other Phill Spector works on 60s. By the time she changed her name to... Cher
Stars supporting stars. 😊
This song is timeless! Great sound!
I dont quite understand how one of greatest songs of all time can only have 500,000 views.
Another video of the same song has 2 million
Different version is all. Millions have heard this.
Its only been up since may 2020...
Another version has 25 million

Man, 2022 is barely 2 weeks old and we've lost Sidney Poitier, Dwayne Hickman, Peter Bogdanovich, Bob Saget , and Max Julien. Now, Ronnie Spector has checked out. Definitely the defining voice of my favorite Girl Group, The Ronettes. Thanks for the fine vocal, Ronnie, on Be My Baby. You made it a genuine teen anthem in 1963. Love, Peace and Mercy to you, Ronnie Spector.
I really, really love this song!!!

Rest easy, Ronnie. This song will forever be an iconic masterpiece of the 60s. May your legacy in music live on forever.
