There’s something about the way she sings “Be my baby now” that just sends chills down my spine. I’m honestly surprise nobody on here is talking about the diction and tone that she used. Because it pairs hauntingly with this wall of sound beat. Tbh I’m not even sure if it is even classified as singing on that particular note. It’s more of a melancholic wail. Like she is truly yearning for whoever this guy is to just be hers. Which is given more effect and power with the vintage production.
If you really want to listen to something spine-chilling, listen to anything by Al Bowlly, the grain, the cadence, the wear and tear, and the premise of some of his songs make for a great spooky song.
Brings me to tears after all these years...too... just background music to my teenage years at the time... on and off the radio mostly... and now I recently heard it and realize with amazement that the voices, music, chorus, arrangements and all are an absolute masterpiece with all their nuance, passionate emphasis, and subtleties.
@@larrytischler570 Why not just savor your enjoyment? What does denigrating someone else’s musical preferences add to to what you love? NOTHING. BTW, “breath” rhymes with “death”, not the word you thought you were writing. Y’know, the one that rhymes with “peeve”.
I am 32 years old and I have just discovered this song yesterday I love it so much !!!! I am also reading the comments from older people than me and broke me into tears with such words 🥹
Brian Wilson said he had listened to this song more than 1000 times & the first time he heard it 50 years ago in the car he had to pull over & listen to all the instruments. When he was able to reproduce them he said he then knew how to produce a record. He says it’s the best record ever produced. He stopped trying to top it because he said he couldn’t.
Just like Michael Jackson topped a lot of legends that I know of also..If I can get beat by the best I like to admit I got beat by the best. I love Prince and Mozart also because of their memory.
Apparently this song was the template or inspired the Beach Boys song Don't Worry Baby. But Brian did produce two great songs in I Get Around and California Girls which are close to perfection like this song
I was so lost in life and when I hear this song it brought back all my childhood memories and trauma from growing up w a single mom it’s amazing what music can make you feel.
I listened to "Be My Baby" classic song driving home from the beach yesterday and I sang every word with a smile on my face. That is the power of music. RIP Ronnie Spector.
My mom was humming this song when the Dr told her n my dad that she was having a beautiful bundle of joy. My dad said "a beautiful bundle of joy indeed; bcuz we are having a girl!...and sure enough I am!...🤗✨
Word. Reminds me of when I was a kid and my mom would clean house on her days off on the wknd and put her motown music on. I still play this music all the time in my backyard with my kids when we're swimming or just hanging out back there. My 7 yr old girl loves it! And it's good music too. Not talking about WAP and things like that.
When Brian Wilson heard this song it changed how he approached writing music. He listened to it hundreds of times and played it for his band mates many, many times. Phil Spector's production techniques on display here inspired and terrified him because he knew he had so far to go to catch up. He likened this song to the theory of relativity for how revolutionary it was for popular music. A few years later he would create Pet Sounds, where he at least matched and likely exceeded his idol.
This song changed pop music forever! Brian Wilson was basically obsessed with it (Don't Worry Baby was a response to Be My Baby according to him) and the rest is history.
You never know how much you'll be affected by seeing one of the figures of your youth pass, but this one really hit me. I was listening to Eddie Money's 'Take Me Home Tonight' on the radio in the last week and thinking what a cool tribute it was to Ronnie. I was really taking in the different pieces she sang in the song, wondering if she voiced her parts in the studio while the rest of the song was being tracked - just really listening to it. She was *so* cool. This song was so perfectly in the groove of what was happening when it was released. Man, I hate to hear this!
Hello, i am 12 years old, this song brings me Joy because it was my grandmothers favorite song. She sadly passed away last christmas, i will forever cherish this song
I'm 70 years young and I remember when this song came out, I loved it then and I still love now. May the Angels always be with you and your sister forever.
One of the greatest songs of all time. A masterpiece and instantly have images of the 60s in my mind. I was born in the 80s and have such a nostalgia for the 60s.
Hal Blaines drumming on this is so perfect. He should be more well known than he is. There’s a reason he played on so many hit records and that’s because producers and artists always knew that he could come up with perfect sounds and parts for the song.
his fills and drumming in general from 2:10 on is just incredible. he takes it somewhere different with every measure. rare to hear emotion evoked through drums but he did it in this song
Very true. Yet Hal was constantly able to convey emotion with his playing. He used to ask for a copy of the lyrics so that he could really get inside the theme and feelings within the song snd replicate and support them percussively
Your welcome. One more thing worth adding. Hal often wasn’t credited on the albums and singles he played on and someone [I can’t recall who] said that - after doing further research- they realised that Hal was all of his top ten favourite drummers, because he was so versatile and played on so many classic records.
Never got tired listening to it! The Ronettes, the Shirelles, the British Invasion music mostly the 60’s!! This era changed the music industry…fantastic!!!
This was the song that my whole family walked into my grandads funeral it holds so many memories from being my grandma's favorite song to being my grandparents wedding song to me now 13 and already certain that I want to walk down the Isle (whenever I do) to this song
Lyrics The night we met I knew I needed you so And if I had the chance I'd never let you go So won't you say you love me? I'll make you so proud of me We'll make 'em turn their heads every place we go So won't you, please (be my, be my baby) Be my little baby? (My one and only baby) Say you'll be my darlin' (be my, be my baby) Be my baby now (my one and only baby) Whoa-oh-oh-oh I'll make you happy, baby, just wait and see For every kiss you give me, I'll give you three Oh, since the day I saw you I have been waiting for you You know I will adore you 'til eternity So won't you, please (be my, be my baby) Be my little baby? (My one and only baby) Say you'll be my darlin' (be my, be my baby) Be my baby now (my one and only baby) Whoa-oh-oh-oh So come on and, please (be my, be my baby) Be my little baby? (My one and only baby) Say you'll be my darlin' (be my, be my baby) Be my baby now (my one and only baby) Whoa-oh-oh-oh Be my little baby? (My one and only baby) Oh-oh-oh (be my, be my baby) Oh (my one and only baby) Whoa-oh-oh-oh (be my, be my baby) Oh-oh-oh (My one and only baby) Oh (be my, be my baby)
I always wanted to play this for the woman I found true love with. I finally found that true love. At around 1:30 a.m. early Wednesday, I embraced my love and kissed her for the first time, while Ronnie's sang this song. It was magical. It is a memory that will be in my heart for life. Moments later, Ronnie passed. I like to think that somehow, she herself was there as that song played, watching with love as her singing brought yet another couple together in a magic embrace. Thank you Ronnie. God speed to the paradise and heaven where you will surely be asked to sing.
I was 5 years old when this song came out. The lady next door had several teenage sons and a teenage daughter and two younger sons. She babysat me and I remember the boys playing all the popular music and teaching me to dance. Since I was so short they placed me on top of the forbidden coffee table that was glass topped with a display of navy knots. Every time they heard their mother they took me off the coffee table. Of course I never gave them away. When I hear 1960's songs I love the music and remember the coffee table with Steve and Ray. Thank you guys!!!!!
This was the song that blew Brian Wilson’s mind and inspired him to write Don’t Worry Baby. Ronnie’s voice and Phil’s production were a match for the ages . Still so inspirational and no matter what year it is, this and so many others from this era will always touch people !!

It’s not often commented on, but Hal Blaine’s simple, precise drumming really sets the tone and helps make the song. RIP, Hal Blaine, one of the great drummers of the rock era.
The drums are very loud and present in the mix, yet it sounds great because a) he listened well, b) he was really aiming to suit the music (didn't just do his personal style every time like many drummers do), and c) his judgements about WHAT would suit the music were usually spot-on. If you really want to listen to something spine-chilling, listen to anything by Al Bowlly, the grain, the cadence, the wear and tear, and the premise of some of his songs make for a great spooky song.
The way she sticks that mic out and nods.

Me too, Susan Lynn!
Susan, you found the right words to describe this jewel!
Hello ! How are you doing today? I would really love to be a good friend of yours and get to know more about ourselves if you don’t mind?… thanks 🌹
It was real music back then. Today the can't even hold a note, they don't know how to breath and sing.
@@larrytischler570 Why not just savor your enjoyment? What does denigrating someone else’s musical preferences add to to what you love? NOTHING.
BTW, “breath” rhymes with “death”, not the word you thought you were writing. Y’know, the one that rhymes with “peeve”.
I am 32 years old and I have just discovered this song yesterday
I love it so much !!!!
I am also reading the comments from older people than me and broke me into tears with such words 🥹
Rest in peace Ronnie! Your impact on the music world will never be forgotten ❤️
I would argue The Beach Boys have a Spector vibe!
Just like Michael Jackson topped a lot of legends that I know of also..If I can get beat by the best I like to admit I got beat by the best. I love Prince and Mozart also because of their memory.
I know I beat a certain hacker..
The drummer Hal blain was the studio drummer for beach boys pet sounds
Apparently this song was the template or inspired the Beach Boys song Don't Worry Baby. But Brian did produce two great songs in I Get Around and California Girls which are close to perfection like this song
This song was released 17 years before I was born and it is one of my favorites! What a voice. RIP Ronnie Spector.
Came out 14 years before I was born! One of my favorites too! My Mom and Dad use to dance to this song all the time. One of my favorite memories!
This song came out 20 years before I was born and I completely agree with your sentiment towards this song, and music from this era in general! ❤😍🙏

Que en paz descanses Ronnie preciosa, Este sera un Himno hermoso siempre para escuchar, Condolencias a su Familia, desde Argentina
Ronnie Spector's voice backed by The Wrecking Crew doesn't get better. Brings tears to my eyes when I hear this and know that she's passed....RIP.
What an incredible voice! Instant classic. I think if your a record producer and you hear this voice, you know she’s going to be a star.

My mom was humming this song when the Dr told her n my dad that she was having a beautiful bundle of joy. My dad said "a beautiful bundle of joy indeed; bcuz we are having a girl!...and sure enough I am!...🤗✨
Still gives me goosebumps when you hear this song RIP Ronnie
classic
Ronnie's voice, the girls backing her up, the wall of sound... This is as good as it gets.
A perfect song from an iconic time. Rest In Peace, Ronnie.
This song changed pop music forever! Brian Wilson was basically obsessed with it (Don't Worry Baby was a response to Be My Baby according to him) and the rest is history.
Then he got obsessed with “shortening bread” or “ding dang”. Hahah.
Mean streets! What a brilliant record sung by a beautiful soul! The ronettes also remind me of the shirelles, both out around the same time!
Wanna bet this song gets a huge amount of hits tonight.... RIP Ronnie
Bob Seger "Night Moves" "Started humming a song from 1962'' THIS IS THE SONG!!!!
I never knew that! I love that song even more now. Thank you. :)
That's another iconic song featuring Ronnie Spector. RIP
She was one of a kind.
And now they’re both gone, Eddie and Ronnie.

One of the greatest songs of all time. A masterpiece and instantly have images of the 60s in my mind. I was born in the 80s and have such a nostalgia for the 60s.

Same here.
From time to time, it runs through my mind all day.
Um yeah you cant long for something you were never a part of.
I was born in the 90s and I feel it so strongly
@@craigmorgan6010 interesting, yeah clearly it evokes something maybe subconsciously knowing the vision for the song. Thanks for sharing
Your welcome. One more thing worth adding. Hal often wasn’t credited on the albums and singles he played on and someone [I can’t recall who] said that - after doing further research- they realised that Hal was all of his top ten favourite drummers, because he was so versatile and played on so many classic records.
You got that right! Unsung master drum musician...
Never got tired listening to it! The Ronettes, the Shirelles, the British Invasion music mostly the 60’s!! This era changed the music industry…fantastic!!!

The night we met I knew I needed you so
And if I had the chance I'd never let you go
So won't you say you love me?
I'll make you so proud of me
We'll make 'em turn their heads every place we go
So won't you, please (be my, be my baby)
Be my little baby? (My one and only baby)
Say you'll be my darlin' (be my, be my baby)
Be my baby now (my one and only baby)
Whoa-oh-oh-oh
I'll make you happy, baby, just wait and see
For every kiss you give me, I'll give you three
Oh, since the day I saw you
I have been waiting for you
You know I will adore you 'til eternity
So won't you, please (be my, be my baby)
Be my little baby? (My one and only baby)
Say you'll be my darlin' (be my, be my baby)
Be my baby now (my one and only baby)

Idk if this is weird :-)
You can literally hear Cher's silky voice carrying the mid range harmony of the backup vocals coming all the way through - phenomenal song.... The sheer talent (all future superstars in their own right) between the wrecking crew; Hal Blaine on drums; Glen Campbell and Kenny Rogers on guitar; a whole load of others - and the likes of Cher on the back up vocals.... The amount of future billion dollar talent in that room during that recording just leaves you dumbstruck - No Wonder it's stood the test of time....!!!!
