For me, the ideas in ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxAfqpMLyFn37qcqUl0FAzqkkycQeXqrhP Plans were a starting point for building different sheds . Ryan gives ideas that allow an individual to draw nicest conclusions into the design and building of his or her own shed.
That music from the headphones was the Delvon Lamar Organ trio, right? Good good work music! (Maybe the True Loves, but that is the same guitar player).
hey mate what do you think of speeddeck tool for decks?
how does the Garapa look now? did it turn silver?
great skills for this timber cuts but i'd rather leave a gap for an outdoor deck - moisture
What are u using under the circular saw
“Who says screwing a deck needs to take so long”. With your accent it’s the perfect setup for ‘that’s what she said’
Ahaha
Turn on UA-cam captions :p. It is not just us...
how much of the deck per square ?
Nice work.
Nicely done sir
Thank you
That tip for laying the boards quickly and straight is also an old roof tilers trick. Cheers
you guys should be surgeons...nice work
Those guys would definitely smokin one
Nice job
When cutting decking that tight around the 4X4 their isn’t enough room for expansion? 1/8 gap at least ?
Correct, there should be 2 to 5mm gap (dependent on how seasoned your wood is) for,as you say for expansion, but also for water shed.
My thoughts exactly, can't wait to see what happens when it rains...
Those cuts around the 4Xs Are fucking legit. You guys do some really clean work. Would love to come work with you guys.
How many roti should I eat in a day?
I just use window packers as spacers (eg 5mm). And work of a datum straight board ;)
thomas kearney Once you try this wedge method, you never turn back! There’s no quicker way to lay straight boards promptly.
I’ve used tile spacers. Cheap as and consistent spacing every time
Matthew Snart how can you be sure the gaps are even as there’s no stop on the wage? Just eyeball it? Cheers
Wayne Yep, just eyeball it. It’s way easier than you think. I know everyone always mentions, “I just use these kinda spacers” etc. But you literally can’t just lay one straight datum board then go for it with the standard spacer method. You’re always checking straightness due to variation in board width etc. With this method you can spend an hour in the morning laying out all the datums every 6 boards etc, then just go for it and never check straightness again. I’d say 99% of people second guessing this method haven’t even tried it. For a professional deck layer, this is by far the best/quickest/most efficient method to lay decking.
some deck boards we get arent straight and few days later even though we lay it down properly while we wait for them to get used , the deck boards still bend badly. we end up doing every board 1 by 1 to straighten them out,
Waaaaaaait a minute! Did you call him Paeru Bell? Would that make Jess his sister? Linking points in the SBC Universe.
Dope
Great video guys from the UK. The way you guys pronounce 'deck' as 'dick' had the schoolboy in me chucking for hours :)
:48 Das Fx?
26....ahhh New Zealanders
Do you really want that decking to be this tight around the pole? Then theres no space for the wood to move.
And rain/moisture to disperse. 3 to 6 mil clearance is the go.
You guys are awesome. Keep it up!
Beautiful di... I mean, deck.
Every time he says "deck" ...
Hi mate quality videos! Any chance of doing a tutorial video on how you mark the notches for round the posts on the angled decking? Be much appreciated!
My same request so let’s hope Chris shows his subscribers how it’s done
Love the workmanship, hard to find these days...God bless you Scott and crew! Bloody champions 🥳
This is a dream. I used treated pine, and there’s no way to lay them that quickly without accounting for all the warping and bowing. This speed and accuracy is amazing with high-quality boards, but there’s something magical and fulfilling about straightening and bending awful boards to my will. lol
What about expansion on the decking around the posts though, won’t that buckle over time ?
I like to cut a notch at the bottom of post slightly less than the decking thickness for expansion. Lot of wet weather in Newfoundland Canada that is
How are you doing the butt joints on the deck boards? Love the videos you guys are doing a great job
We noticed that as well. Our boards are on the bias as well. Means 1/2 lap on the joist. I can’t decide if I should add nailer boards at every junction. Agree with other comments, decking boards purchased in the US from HomeDepot or Lowes are just impossible. Even the “premium” boards are nasty.
We use the same screws there pissers
Nice work fellas but hey what about the rain forest, be good if you could use sustainable timber
Well, found this out the hard way today, f@k me
Would be a joy to work with decking of that quality! So different from the treated pine we use here in Finland. It varies alot in dimensions due to that it soaks water like a sponge, and is always twisted to a pretzel!
Hey Scott nice work love your videos, when you set up for the chalk line do you just measure however many boards(width) and plus an additional measurement for gaps ?
Just allow the board width plus about 3mm and you will be able to adjust them slightly to fit in.
Beautiful work
Nice job boys , that’s how we do it here in Aus , I also use a small high speed corded drill 450 watts from memory to drill the holes heaps faster than 18 bolt
good job! but I think its way too tight around those posts as timber swells and contracts.
The post had a much higher water content than the decking, but time will tell
The other problem you get is water will find it's way down their. And sit and not be able to get out. It will be a spot that rots years down the road. Looks amazing. Nice wax trick.
@@ScottBrownCarpentry Good point, if the post is wet and the deck board is dry you're probably in good shape.
Right, if you could figure out how to handsomely shield the top somehow that would be solid.
I can guarantee that you can't do it that way with Home Depot lumber.
I was thinking the same. I just replaced some decking, most was ok but I couple took it to me. He is using much nicer lumber than my low end PT. You get what you pay for.
40s in and in love! Amazing work
I'm about to start laying a deck with a two board picture frame edge. Just wondering if it's better to lay the picture frame first or the main decking?
Bro there is no shame in leaving a gap for expansion that board is wayyy to tight! should allow atleast 3-4mm gap. Especially with that lighter timber you are using.
HAHAHAHA oh my goodness must watch with Google caption ON...
Does the bark side of decking board go up or down or it does not matter ?
Why does he keep saying "Dicking"?
kiwi
Love your videos and that deck looks great but internal joinery shouldn't be used externally. When you gotta put wax on it, it's too tight lol
Great tip thanks
This is the first deck that I have seen that is like mine where the boards run away from the house instead of parallel.
Do you use an impact driver for the screws? Full speed? Just started on my hardwood deck and broke the 4th screw.
Woodglut has a very large project base.
Hey im a builder in kapiti about to do a deck, and I just rewatched this video and i noticed u chalked a line down your joists to line up your screw? Very clever bro I'm fully gonna use that haha
Could you do a video clip showing how to cut irregular notches around angled posts like those you fitted in this video please Chris? This would be a great help to us novices :)
you didn't show any trick
Stodoys plans are amazing!
Leaving no expansion for the boards (waxing them and driving them on) is a very bad idea. There is no room for expansion when they absorb water.
