It's almost 4 AM where I live, but I saw this before sleeping and I just had to watch. Great follow-up, it made me go thru the emotions I felt for John as the epilogue unfolded. The epilogue shows how Dutch and Hosea's parenting on John made him ill-equipped to a world outside the gang and a society thats more hostile to outlaws. The world they raised him in also really stunted his growth, which we've seen glimpses of in Chapters 1 & 2 thru Arthur's. I like how you went through John and Abigail's perspectives and traced John's growth until he realized he had to truly go all-in on his family.
I feel the proposal and wedding is what Arthur's sacrifice was about. He didn't stay on that mountain holding off the pinkertons JUST so John can survive, no, he stayed behind so John can LIVE! That's what it was all about, even before this point that's what the stated goal of the gang was. I always remember that talk before they go to Six Point Cabin when talking about the differences between the VDL Gang and the O'driscolls John's main distinction is that the O'driscolls are only trying to survive, while the Van Der Linde's are trying to live, free! And now he and his family at least can, because of an act of love from Arthur. I know that John going after Micah is eventually what ruins him, what leads to RDR1 but i cant blame John. If i had someone like Arthur, someone who did everything he could with his dying breaths to make sure I can live a life I wasnt able to before, Id want revenge for him too. I'll always tear up during Arthur's final moments, but the real sobbing is during the proposal and wedding, its what all that struggle was about, just those two beautiful moments
I had never appreciated the contrast between the conversations with jack. It seems the most overlooked missions in this game are very introspective to the characters. Amazing video once again!
Another banger. I feel like I’m the only one who enjoys playing epilogue part 1 hahah. There was so much fighting between John and Abigail in the main game, but getting to be in it (instead of just catching glimpses as Arthur) is so rewarding. I feel the same way you do where I can sympathize with John, but I will defend Abigail til my dying breath. On my first playthrough I cried when Arthur died, but on every subsequent playthrough it’s John’s proposal that makes tear up. It’s THE payoff. In a game with so much pain there’s this one beautiful moment, and I know Arthur would be so happy that he spent his last moments making sure such a thing could happen. Would be happy to see more content from you. Fallout 4 as well c:
I am also a passionate Abigail defender and lover. I feel she gets a lot of unwarranted flack for having very reasonable stances and reactions to things. I think she is such an important part of both John and Arthur's stories. Thanks for this :)

People who defend Abigail can’t seem to defend her hating John for quite literally helping them save the farm which if he didn’t save would man either moving out or being controlled by evil men who’s use Abigail
I’m glad you considered Abigail and Jack’s perspective so much here. I’ve see allot of hate for their characters even though their actions and presentation makes sense and is totally reasonable considering the lives they’ve lived. I love that RDR2 puts so much detail and complexity into the writing of the characters and the dynamics between them, really goes far to make them feel like believable people who struggle finding a place in the new world. I’d love to hear your opinions on Sadie Adler if that’s something you’d have interest in talking about. Keep up the good work!
Yeah people hating Abigail are weird. It's pretty damn obvious why she's always yelling at John, she doesn't want Jack to die or grow up completely without a father. Plus, if John died, being a single, uneducated woman with a child back then would either mean becoming a working girl or ending up dead. And Jack is a kid who basically grew up with no dad and no friends.
You say the gameplay was not engaging but I think that was probobly intentional. When you are pressing X to shovel pig shit and thinking "Dammit I wish I was robbing stagecoaches this sucks" you are thinking the exact same thing John is at that very moment. I think the tedium actually is an important part of telling the story of the character.
When are we gonna get our fantastic, in-depth look at Arthur's character? I feel like an hour or longer video of your view on said topic is much needed
The tragedy of it all is that John seals his fate by killing Micah as that’s what leads Pinkertons (?) to his doorstep and setting in motion the first game, if John did just listen to his wife and end that cycle of violence then it would have ended very differently
They would have done regardless of taking Micah out. The events of RDR 1 was all based on a politician making political promises to wipe out every outlaw, former and current, from the state.

The real reason is less spoilers and more making videos with long scripts is a lot of work. I didn't think many people would be spoiled but truth be told, these videos aren't easy and once you've been recording for a couple hours, it gets tiring. so i cut it short
@@pinkygunslingythanks for replying I understand that completely. Looking forward to new videos about RDR2 characters and maybe videos about RDR1 exclusive characters like Landon Rickets. id bet a Red Harlow Video would also be really interesting. :)
Wow this was an awesome video. Next I'd love to say how it's so fun to watch your videos, you have a very interesting thought process, and you make very funny jokes that keep me pulled into the video, while I did really like the hour long thing, shorter videos also work perfect for your type of content, keep it up, you're doing fantastic!

Your tiktoks almost singlehandedly got me to give rdr2 another chance after bouncing off it and I'm loving it the second time around. Anyways great video, excited to see more from you

Wow! Just as soon as I discover your channel with the amazing last video, you post another one! Amazing video! Thank you and I can’t wait to see the future of this channel!
I don't even count RDR2 John as canon, they ruined him in RDR2. In RDR1 he implies several times that he was even more ruthless and angry in his gang days, and in RDR2 we see him do nothng but whine, being mocked by everyone for some reason and coming up with scores that turn out to be a bust. Dutch also was dumbed down for the sake of sending the gang into a downhill path in a forced way, like trusting Bronte's lead on robbing the trolley station. It was such an obvious set up, that no matter how desperate for a chance for a good score Dutch was, there was no way he'd believe it, before doing it he says "we need money, Bronte says this place has got money"... like.. what??
awesome content, keep it coming at whatever pace keeps you engaged :) also i never understood the epilouge hate. i thought it was really well done. you could stay and farm all day (which is kind of boring) or you could slip out and fall into the outlaw lifestyle once again. it was a cool way of encouraging player actions that reflect johns character (wanting to stay and be with his family while the pull of the outlaw life is always just ouside the fence).

You are far from the only one who loves the epilogue of this game; in my opinion, it saved the game
People who defend Abigail can’t seem to defend her hating John for quite literally helping them save the farm which if he didn’t save would man either moving out or being controlled by evil men who’s use Abigail
Honestly the epilogue felt like a built in DLC
I'd love to see a dissection about Sadie. Your commentary and compendium of knowledge both about story arcs and about how they're linked is fantastic.
And Jack is a kid who basically grew up with no dad and no friends.
loving these. going through yet another playthrough of this game and stumbled upon these at just the right time, great work
Honestly the length of the first video was never a problem for me. Listening to you talk for an hour was an hour well spent
The way you discuss media compared to other channels on the platform is incredibly refreshing, can't wait for more videos in the future
Make the videos 2 1/2-5 hours long if you wanna!!!! I LOVE your takes and breakdowns 😍
Your two red dead analysis videos are the best I've seen. Nobody else analyzes the characters from this perspective. Please please make more of these.
Please please please do this for RDR. Your insight is phenomenal and the editing and pace is top notch
I would absolutely love some RDR vids from pinky, so I wholeheartedly second this!
The tragedy of it all is that John seals his fate by killing Micah as that’s what leads Pinkertons (?) to his doorstep and setting in motion the first game, if John did just listen to his wife and end that cycle of violence then it would have ended very differently
They would have done regardless of taking Micah out. The events of RDR 1 was all based on a politician making political promises to wipe out every outlaw, former and current, from the state.
you’re easily my favourite red dead creator and you do this franchise and the complexity of its characters the justice it deserves. loved the video, please continue to discuss other things abt this series that interest you at whatever video length you prefer. keep up the great commentary. and if you ever delve into other series (such as fallout) i would also love to see your takes on that as well
Finding this channel from the Dutch analysis video was a wonderful treat, love your form of presentation and the balance of humor and well written thought. Hope this channel keeps taking off and succeeding! 😊
I love John Marston and this video is such a good dive into who he is, at least during the epilogue! I hope you come back to this in a later video. I love that you dont look at just the surface of things but go deeper! More introspective and stuff, its a breath of fresh air compared to all the "who would win in a fight" videos, not that theres anything wrong with them, i like em. I just appreciate this deeper analysis of characters i adore
The teddy bear in the pocket slays
Very excited for this and please if you ever feel the pull I would eat up fallout explained with your level of media literacy. I feel like so many people reduce the characters to only one aspect of themselves
i can see how this would happen in such a massive game with so many characters but i'd like to one day when im more familiar with the game!
@@pinkygunslingy you should also eventually make a video/play fallout new vegas ya know for the cowboys
@@hellsjerome7086ive been told this a few times now! im coming into a PC soon so i'm thinking of maybe doing playthroughs of the plethora of games ive never touched lol
Just saw three of your videos and they're so cool! It is kind of impressive to know these are part of your first uploads. It is nice to see someone go in so much detail about Red Dead in 2023 with enough knowledge to back their theories up which in itself enriches the experience of enjoying the narrative of the game after playing it. Thanks for sharing your stuff!
I would love to hear more about john and RDR1 personally, video length is not an issue. Your dutch video was great
Please don’t apologize for the length of your videos! I have always been a sucker for long-form character study videos and the video ending left me craving for more 😭
i absolutely adore your videos!! as someone who is hyperfixated on rdr it’s very nice to see someone who analyses the games in a similar way and you always bring new things that i hadn’t thought about which is really fun
I loved the video! Well thought out and accurate as always
Thank you! I actually have plans to talk about this in the future in conjunction with the wild vitriol I've seen directed at Mary Linton and maybe even Molly O'Shea. I think they have a lot in common and I think about them often.
@@pinkygunslingy I look forward to your insight on the topic, I'm sure it will be extremely interesting, and will give me some points to think about that may not have occurred to me yet.
Personally, as a Male, I found her character great and whenever she sang at the campfires she reminded me of my mom.
But it is annoying when the fans don't understand her actions.
Maybe because Abigail hates literally everything John does to live, she literally gets mad because John is protecting THERE FUCKING FARM, I don’t remember Sadie being that annoying
@@pinkygunslingyMary linton literally uses Arthur and manipulates him ofc you as a woman would wanna defend her, and Molly legit killed herself
Your channel scratches some kind of itch in my brain and i dont know it its the willingness to hear nerdy women talk abt their obsessions or my personal obsession with the Red Dead franchise from red dead 1 and 2 being my respective iconic childhood and teenhood games
Goob vibeos i like 👍
I love listening to your videos while cooking and cleaning, it's incredibly interesting to hear characters I've loved for years and years be described and looked into so thoroughly.
I had always been sympathetic to Abigail's point of view in the epilogue, but you've really brought a new light to what she's dealing with. Keep up the good work!
This was a great analysis. The epilog was my favorite chapter. They've both been through allot throughout the events in the game and it shows. Great job on the video.
I really hope that you make a sequel for this video regarding John’s further development in RDR1. Great video, by the way!!
Came back 5 days later to watch both the videos again, they’re very relaxing
I can say so much about how well put the video is but I will say the thumbnail is so smartly put together I could make an essay on that.
I always liked that jacks grown up outfit was a mixture of johns and Arthur’s outfit (Johns hat, bandolier and gun belt) and the way it looks like Arthur’s gunslinger outfit with the jacket and the boots tucked in
You already made my favorite TikTok’s on red dead but now you got my favorite UA-cam videos on it too. It’d be cool to see you branch out to other games by making reviews or retrospectives!
I literally can’t wait for every upload
These video essays are top notch 🙌
Whats up Outlaw
I think we need a deep dive into Uncle's lumbago, a curious case to be sure
i love the detail of the low honor sound being the bleep
Please make more long form content like this, they are so chill and soothing to watch or just listen to
Love your analysis and sense of humour and editing. Few creators can actually make fart sound appropriate and funny.
this honestly made me look at the epilogue completely differently, good work
happy to hear it :)
I have tore through your red dead videos and they’re really good. I really like your perspective on stuff that I have played through and haven’t noticed until now
Love it when I find someone who does deep character analysis like you!
Have you considered covering the Mafia series? Tommy Angelo (Mafia Definitive edition) and Vito Scaletta (Mafia 2) would be right up your alley.
Eyy Vito, ova ere!
Great video I could listen to you talk all day. You are my go to for any red dead talk.
For the hell of adding to the positive words, I am absolutely stoked to see you putting care and effort into your channel and uploading more videos, I was utterly in love with your video on Dutch and seeing two whole new lengthy and quality videos after curiously checking on your channel makes me very very happy.
Good luck on the road ahead, you're doing great!! >:D
babe wake up, pinkygunslingy just dropped the john marston analysis
As someone with an unhealthy red dead obsession these videos are amazing
This channel is already phenomenal I need a video on every character in the game please
My only complaint is not going into RDR1 I get spoilers but the majority here wouldn't care that much and I believe that if it had its own section with a spoiler warning then it would go over fine. Don't worry about length I would watch a vid as long as endgame Abt this game
GUYS PINKY POSTED A NEW VIDEO LETS GO. And she likes fallout 4
Wow this was an awesome video. I absolutely love John Marston but I never really thought about just how much he changes and grows throughout the epilogue. your analysis and perspective has really changed the way I look at him and interpret his actions in the story - he is so much deeper than I thought! Plus you have recontextualized RDR1 in my mind to be a lot more tragic and impactful.
This vid and the analysis on Dutch are both so good! You’ve earned yourself a new subscriber!!!
10:40
Don't forget that the law is confirmed to be bankrolled by Mr. Able to some degree so they're not going to do anything to help Pronghorn in this situation. Given the escalation the Laramies had already comitted to, a violent outcome was the only resolution left.
Longform Red Dead videos like your Dutch analysis are what i live for, dude. I would watch four hours of analyzing why charles is baby ffs
I came here from the Dutch video and MAN I love your videos so much! I can’t wait to watch your future videos to come, and I love the long format videos as well :)
I just finished my third viewing of your Dutch video and then this pops up, about to dive into this one
the first time i saw u had so little videos i cried bc ur my favorite ytber on this site
It would be cool to get a part two covering that spoiler bit and RDR1
Algorithm blessed me with this channel and you have cured my lumbago, subbed!
Please do not be afraid to make longer videos! I love them!
i love ur video essays pinky KEEP MAKING THESE!!11!!!
Would love a Part 2 to this detailing John's story from the first game. Either way keep up the good work, I really enjoy your analysis. :)
I want to start this off with telling you how fun a great the video is, I've been thinking about this less heavily and I'm glad to see your video having a lot of points I think fit perfectly, and also things I've always thought, and I also want to say some of my favorite lines from Arthur are either literally just "revenge is a fools game" or 90% of the lines that have it. Next I'd love to say how it's so fun to watch your videos, you have a very interesting thought process, and you make very funny jokes that keep me pulled into the video, while I did really like the hour long thing, shorter videos also work perfect for your type of content, keep it up, you're doing fantastic!
you could make these videos way longer. getting insight like this into the characters makes the game way more replayable and its honestly just interesting asf to see how complex and real the characters are.
I'd be really excited to see your perspective extended to, well, honestly anything else you're interested in talking about. Your tiktoks almost singlehandedly got me to give rdr2 another chance after bouncing off it and I'm loving it the second time around.
Anyways great video, excited to see more from you
Great work. Can’t wait for the next.
Its almost 12:00 AM where i live. I have school in the morning. I just stubnled across this. Thank you for this interesting video.
Oh how I love falling asleep to you talking about RDR. Thank you 😅
Huge fan of your vids! I often cycle through these vids whenever I got an all nighter to do. Keep it up!
i love your tiktoks and im so glad youre making long form videos now, keep them coming, you have such a good perspective :)
IM SO GLAD YOU MADE ANOTHER VIDEO!!! PLEASE KEEP DOING THESE ❤
The last video wasn't excessively long at all, loved every bit of it.
Longer videos are becoming big af on UA-cam even with the longer video I assume you have to script something like this your writing or just speaking is great and you’re funny as hell don’t stop making videos
I'm loving the TT and the video essays, they're good. Don't worry about making them "too long", they're better longer tbh 40 mins to an hour is perfect
Just discovered your channel. Your videos are awesome. I love long form videos
Wow! Just as soon as I discover your channel with the amazing last video, you post another one! Amazing video! Thank you and I can’t wait to see the future of this channel!
Hip Hip hooray🎉 new pinky vid dropped
two for two so far, can’t wait for the next one!
It was such an obvious set up, that no matter how desperate for a chance for a good score Dutch was, there was no way he'd believe it, before doing it he says "we need money, Bronte says this place has got money"... like.. what??
hitting that notification bell cause this channel is now one of my faves for analysis on characters
awesome content, keep it coming at whatever pace keeps you engaged :)
also i never understood the epilouge hate. i thought it was really well done. you could stay and farm all day (which is kind of boring) or you could slip out and fall into the outlaw lifestyle once again. it was a cool way of encouraging player actions that reflect johns character (wanting to stay and be with his family while the pull of the outlaw life is always just ouside the fence).
Fallout 4 was SUCH a big interest of mine for like over 4 years, rdr2 second best, I would LOVE it if you made videos over the characters in that game they mean the world to me
I just found your channel and ate up this video and your Dutch one. please make more content like this! you are so insightful
i absolutely love your deep dives pinky!!! and the way you explain these characters makes me appreciate them even more. Can't wait to see more videos from you!
I want a part 2 about John in rdr1, I really love that arc of the character
I prefer amazing long videos also. Your videos are top notch as everyone else is pointing out. Thanks for making great content.
I love these analyses videos! I’m hoping for a Arthur analysis next or maybe a closer look into Milton as he really isn’t as one dimensional as you would think he is
