Thank you for that info, actually. I just called non-crown molding strips "molding". Now I know what it is by my floor. I don't know what it is across the middle-ish of my dining room. I didn't ever live in a nice enough place to have any kind of molding until I moved where I am a few years ago, so I am not an expert at all.

My mom was born in 1953, she and I love this style of decor. She, my dad, and I lived in a vintage home, literally vintage home, with vintage furniture. I remember the health department had to take all the paint off our walls (lead based paint and being a child it can cause fatal happenings, and you can be an adult and be affected, too.) But we repainted and it was still fun to see how people lived back then. You really know your stuff! 😊👍
Jaid0r I’m with you. I would have loved the flowers when they were new (not afraid of the granny look) but if they weren’t all pristine, it wouldn’t have worked.
You may not be interested, but when a person has a real affinity for an era that they seemingly have no experience with, it's likely because you lived a past life during that period. How do I know this? Long story short, I'm 56 and had an unexplained affinity for all things 1920's and 1930's my entire life. No idea why. I'm just drawn to it and when I see old pictures or movies on TV I just relax and go "Ahhhh". My current house is decorated in a very 1920's look. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, I had a psychic reading from Psychic Violetta (UA-cam)(very gifted lady). I asked about past lives, knowing that whatever she said I would have to take with a grain of salt since who can prove it anyway? Well, she said I was a flapper girl in the 20's and 30's and was blonde and very pretty and all the men wanted me but just used me up and threw me away. I only wanted to find love, but none of them wanted to know me; only use me. I then spent my life alone.... I was astounded because she just explained the exact same life I lived in the 1990's in this life. In the 1990's, in my 30's, I had died my hair blonde, went out every night dancing, (just as she said I did in the 1920's and 30's) and looked for love, but only found men who lied to me to use me and then threw me away. They lied about being married. I had one "boyfriend" who up and got married one weekend after spending his last night of "freedom" with me. I had no idea he had a fiance as he had been sleeping with me for about 3 months. It was all just a game to those men. I then have been alone ever since because I don't trust men. This happened to me so much back then because I was blessed to have been very pretty in my 30's....men sought me out like crazy. (Sorry, for the sob story) but after Violetta told me about this past life in the 20's and 30's, I told her how I had lived that very life in the 1990's, and that I had also had an odd nostalgia and affinity for 1920's and 1930's decorating...she told me that obsessions with other eras are sure signs that we lived a lifetime during that time and hence we have nostalgia for that time. My part in having to relive the situation in the 90's was that I was trusting bad men when my higher self was trying to tell me to run, but I didn't listen. So I had to live the lifetime again. Guess what? I failed in the 1990's again, because I turned a blind eye to the signs that told me these men weren't worth spending my time with. I pretended to myself that those men were better men than they actually were, just because I was in puppy love. So I very well might have to relive it the next time around until I make the right decisions ;( Just watching this one video of you, you likely would have lived a very entrepreneurial life has a young lady in the 1950's just like you are today, likely with the very same hairstyle you choose to wear today. Whatever big story lines are going on in your life today, are likely the story lines you lived in the 1950's. Oh, one other thing... I was so obsessed with flapper girls that I even wore my hair for a time in the 90's in the style of Louise Brooks; short hair, ending with a curl at the front... That is the same exact hair that Violetta described me having in the 1920's and 30's...
Cindy That’s EXACTLY what I thought when I read the UA-cam description. She definitely had a past life in that era. Your story was saddening, yet inspiring. Once you acknowledge these past life patterns, they become easier not to repeat, also weakening the karma. I wish you wellness, happiness and love for the remainder of this life. Remember we create our reality, so embody true love, release your engrained past life story, and find self love. In true paradoxical fashion, I guarantee once you do, you’ll run in to a genuine love in this life. We are NOT our past life karma. Good luck Cindy! ♥️
So I’ve been to Paris twice, the first time I didn’t get to go to Versailles but the second time I did and idk why but it made me cry. The grounds seemed familiar to me, even writing this I’m tearing up... I’ve always had a thing for the 18th century and honestly a thing for Paris. Reading this just confirmed a feeling in my tummy.
Selina Caballero I just went to Versailles about two weeks ago and felt the same thing. I had such a calling to it. I felt so happy and at home there. Definitely my favorite place I’ve ever been and I can’t wait to go back.
Your apartment looks great and it was cool to see you doing the light installation. Tiny bathrooms can be fun. Mine is a wee little 5x8 feet and I made it into an art nouveau haven.
Your apartment looks like it’s out of a vintage catalog. I kept having to remind myself that this wasn’t a vintage video, this was your actual apartment makeover. Great job, it looks so beautiful
The decor reminds me of The Sims, in a good way!. Its amazing to see what is back in style, a lot of people use this furniture now! you did an amazing job with your space!!!
What I love is how clean and effortless you make it all seem, you never get any paint on you, you never seem exacerbated or frustrated like most would be doing that kind of grunt work. Gingerly and neatly putting everything in it's perfect place, like you did it all in a single afternoon lol.
Omg! Can you do a vlog or q/a on first time living on your own? Like answering questions on if you work, how are you able to afford an apartment in LA? For others who still live at home but are interested in maybe doing the same!
This is my first time seeing one of her videos but, judging by the number of subscribers and the quality of the video, I would say that YT is her job and she can afford the apartment (whether she is renting or bought it) because of the number of views she gets. Plus it looks like she has another channel. If you're not shy and have a passion for something, grab that phone or camera and start putting out content. You might be able to make YT a full-time job someday or at least have it pay for gas & groceries. Good luck!!!💕
Hey Guys I found most of these items on amazon and they're all within price range( low budget) so I really recommend these items. The chandelier I am definitely getting
I agree - as in modern 2019 chain store.. and it has nothing to do with the comment that mcm is so popular.... it’s modern not modernist- and it’s like that vos everything IS modern from modern chain stores.
Me watching the before: hey that’s actually pretty decent Me watching the ACTUAL before: OH GOSH THAT LOOKS HORRIBLE! Lol You really changed up that apartment! I especially loved the dining area!
Just started watching your videos and I must admit, I really like your appreciation for ventage era of the 50s. For a person so young you do it well. Keep up the good work of a timeless & simple era & thank you for educating me.
@@satanssandwich5389 I agree. My home is totally 60s and 70s down to my silverware. It was built in 1974 and alot of it was original and what wasnt, Ive fixed up to be period perfect. She should have gone thrifting for some cheaper and more authentic era accurate furniture and style. Would have been more exciting. Not that it isn't cute. :^)
Brandy Jay thank you for actually understanding the concept! You are spot on. The whole “ vintage “ thing is getting muddied and distorted by the lack of actual understanding of a time period or era...the apartment in the video looks lovely but it annoys me that a self proclaimed and clearly influential ( to impressionable audience) vintage expert, didn’t buy second hand . It’s environmentally ( if you’re into that and we all should be) so much better and old furniture lasts longer is period correct and doesn’t support cheap nasty factory labour. Agh It’s so simple It also looks so so much better. Key items from thrift stores saves money and the environment . Why wouldn’t you? Also there’s a big big difference as I’m sure you’d agree between vintage and antique. Let’s keep our vintage passion true and not let history get murkier by incorrect info being passed along Ps your house sounds absolutely gorgeous and you’ve obviously put a tonne of love and care into restoring it to be as good as it was when built That’s exactly how it should be - If you can’t afford a George Nelson clock don’t get a cheap nasty made in China knock off that kinda sorta maybe reminds you a little of one if you squint .... wait . One will come along... I’m glad there’s people out there like you keeping true history alive x

Wow, Bravo to Jessica for her 50's vibe. She is definitely an old soul like my daughter. One thing I would do is, move the cart with the glasses over to the left, so it can be seen more, instead of hidden behind the chair. I'm glad she chose Midcentury style which I love also. I'm also glad that she found a way to liven up her apartment in unique ways because when you rent, landlords don't want you to make to many changes.

@@bridgettmahoney1390
It's OK Bridgett, if you don't know about something the you tubers will let you know in the comments. We just pass on information to you. It's a great way to find out about things. 👍👵
@@bridgettmahoney1390 My mum (an interior designer) always called the middle rail a dado rail :D
I love what you did! I can’t believe the apartment let you paint, remove fixtures, and vinyl wrap the appliances! I was getting so inspired then remember my apartment doesn’t let me do any of that 😂
Oh my god those floral doorknobs were the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen
Hannah you’ve GOT to be kidding?
They're sold at lowes, nothing vintage about em really their more of a 80/90's grandmas home style.
All I could think about was that stupid Tumblr post "Mr Sandman, man me a sand" throughout the whole video lmaoooo
River Love sand me a man car hook hand door man
make him the cutest, man car door hook hand
lily margaret whistler yes! That what i was looking for. I ad-libbed my line.
Hahahaha! I've never heard that tumbler reference but I loved it
I keep hearing the Mr Grillman post LMAO
7:27 I thought that was such a cute father daughter moment 😁😊😊😊
I feel like this is more retro (recent past, 70-90’s) than vintage, but I still love it sm
Love you cause you are not that sensitive like who can't do anything without others😘
seems like me and Jessica are the only ones who thought spray painting the knobs was a great idea 🥴🥴🥴
Jaid0r I’m with you. I would have loved the flowers when they were new (not afraid of the granny look) but if they weren’t all pristine, it wouldn’t have worked.
The others are just wrong. Those knobs were hideous.
Eh..Replace the knobs. There’re so many metal n porcelain ones new & used, very cheap. Painting over Vtg ones devalued them.
U 812 it’s knobs, it’s really not that deep 😭😭 trends come and go
I liked them better too!
I wish I lived in an apartment that would let me paint and fix up things :( great job, Jess!! Everything looks so cute
You need some vintage Pyrex to spice up that kitchen
I'm shocked she doesn't have those iconic colored printed ones
She’s still young! Adorbs for her first apt! Who would want to move all that stuff across the US? She could collect now!? It WOULD be cute in there!
Agreed. Just do not drop Pyrex!!! Oh, the shards... EVERYWHERE. 😲
@@honeybee6154 girl I felt that in my feet!! My Oma had it and when I dropped one- JEEZ

That's what she was reminding me of! It was on the tip of my tongue
Dont belive in that sort of stuff, but very interesting!
Selina Caballero I just went to Versailles about two weeks ago and felt the same thing. I had such a calling to it. I felt so happy and at home there. Definitely my favorite place I’ve ever been and I can’t wait to go back.
@@simplyselina Yeah you were probably Louis the XIVth in your previous life lmao
Your apartment looks great and it was cool to see you doing the light installation. Tiny bathrooms can be fun. Mine is a wee little 5x8 feet and I made it into an art nouveau haven.
Aww now you're surrounded by all the things you love. That's awesome.
Dude I like this girl 🥺
Your apartment looks like it’s out of a vintage catalog. I kept having to remind myself that this wasn’t a vintage video, this was your actual apartment makeover. Great job, it looks so beautiful
Haha aww what a great compliment thank you!! ♡
Rose Joy seriously?
Absolutely adorable! Now time to try and get “Mr. Sandman” out of my head....
kristy sickles rightttt!?
The decor reminds me of The Sims, in a good way!. Its amazing to see what is back in style, a lot of people use this furniture now! you did an amazing job with your space!!!
Wow great job👏🙌💪
What I love is how clean and effortless you make it all seem, you never get any paint on you, you never seem exacerbated or frustrated like most would be doing that kind of grunt work. Gingerly and neatly putting everything in it's perfect place, like you did it all in a single afternoon lol.
I love this aesthetic so I know this will be beautiful! 💚
I LOVE THIS! you could totally make a living of just decorating peoples houses, rooms, etc.
Looks more 70s then 50s but all in all very nice! Very pretty. Good job.
Both makeover videos were so subtle and tasteful!
Soo happy that you aren't like every other UA-camr, clean and modern and aaalll white🤣🤣so you guurl😘😘
Love that Mr. sandman is playing in the background

I love the Mr.sandman in the background❤. And you have inspired me to use 1900 thru 2000s in my apartment
This was so nifty!! You have done it again Jessica!!
Yes it was 1950’s vintage inspired but i can personally say I feel like it turned out more modern
I feel bad for agreeing
That's because mid-century style is very popular rn
I agree - as in modern 2019 chain store.. and it has nothing to do with the comment that mcm is so popular.... it’s modern not modernist- and it’s like that vos everything IS modern from modern chain stores.
That’s why it’s called mid-century Modern. Because it was.
It's the white walls.
Me watching the before: hey that’s actually pretty decent
Me watching the ACTUAL before: OH GOSH THAT LOOKS HORRIBLE! Lol
You really changed up that apartment! I especially loved the dining area!
Ooof I gasped when you painted the cabinet bknobs. I've been looking for some exactly like that 😭😂
Just started watching your videos and I must admit, I really like your appreciation for ventage era of the 50s. For a person so young you do it well. Keep up the good work of a timeless & simple era & thank you for educating me.
Don't mind me!
Just enjoy old videos!
I miss these ❤
Love you girly!
"classic" "iconic" and "every 50s household had these" count is off the charts haha
If going by vintage magazine photos of 50s home interiors, she's right. It was the look. If you don't like it, best to not watch lol
@@pamelag7553 oh, sorry, I didn't mean any disrespect! I was just making an observation, it was a really cute video :)
Pamela G it’s so far off with the exception of teal chairs
- mid century style is something that is getting distorted by interpretations like this
@@satanssandwich5389 I agree.
Agh
It’s so simple
It also looks so so much better.
Key items from thrift stores saves money and the environment . Why wouldn’t you?
Also there’s a big big difference as I’m sure you’d agree between vintage and antique.
Let’s keep our vintage passion true and not let history get murkier by incorrect info being passed along
Ps your house sounds absolutely gorgeous and you’ve obviously put a tonne of love and care into restoring it to be as good as it was when built
That’s exactly how it should be -
If you can’t afford a George Nelson clock don’t get a cheap nasty made in China knock off that kinda sorta maybe reminds you a little of one if you squint .... wait . One will come along...
I’m glad there’s people out there like you keeping true history alive x
It’s too dark in that corner for that poor plant. It’s called a dragon tree plant. So could you please move it infront of a window before it dies😭
The floral doorknobs were sooo cute, and they were probably vintage, felt sad when you painted them :-(
They are vintage but we're popular way before the 50s. I came of age during that decade and they just don't fit.
Clara Gonzaga yeah they were vintage but remember the decade she’s decorating the house in lol
They weren’t vintage, just Lowes doorknobs
Im crying those doorknobs were so cute! Poor flowers
The kitchen was definitely my favorite. You barely did much to it and it came out so cute!
Love the renovation but when those kitchen doorknobs got spray painted my heart broke 💔😭 they were so cute

They make plain wire ones or fancy wood ones with doors. You can get ones that hang on the wall or the ones with legs that you just literally stand up behind potty. Oh! And if you have a super large mirror, go to lowes or home depot and they have FOAM crown molding thats cheap and absolutely beautiful and you just caulk it to the mirror and go around all sides and it makes it look like a huge fancy framed mirror... let me get you some links to show what i mean.

Okay and this lil thing is AMAZING! you can slide it between potty and sink cabinet, thats if your potty is next to your sink. And you can use it next to icebox if theres a gap. My bathroom is rly small and the vanity/cabinet has no drawers so i bought this to slide in between vanity and toilet and its been amazing. It holds way more than it looks like it would.

I'm a late 40s early 50s decorator, it's funny how theres such a difference between the early 50s and late 50s! Super cute video, I hope you so show a bedroom and bathroom fix! Amazing vinyl wrap idea, cant believe it never occurred to me!
