Joey Joe I was like you have to maneuver around things when you walk in the door table and chairs should be a bit further away unless it was bad camera angle I would hate to be making that bed against a wall is hard enough but with the big shelf unit right at end even more of a mission
I totally understand how you would think that! It looks like that because of the camera angle but actually there was a good three or four feet between the door and the table. And thankfully the door opens out, instead of in! Thanks for watching! 💕
I agree, she really minimized the potential for storage in this space. A bed with drawers underneath would have worked much better. Adding more useful shelving could maximized the amount of storage. The round table right by the entryway was a bad choice. Overall there were some good ideas but they weren’t put to good use.

can these trendy designers stop putting in cringey tumblr esque prints everywhere, like the 'this must be the place' image and a giant black heart totally just puts me off.
maya98 Yes totally agree. Getting so tired of that. Plus I don't get her style at all. One space in the apartment is like boheme/industrial and then she put the green and pink chairs on the other side of the apartment, not blending in with the other stuff what so ever. Just looks childish and off. Plus where is NO storage at all and who wants a table blocking the door and the teeny tiny little plants that doesn't make it better. Oh well, this is just my opinion.
Yet spent 5 dollars on the print she could have just downloaded and printed for much less or even free. (personally I don't care for prints like that as decor. They're best saved for social media.)
Firstly I am not hating. I am a big fan, but this was not done well at all. too much clutter, everything is up against the wall, no negative wall space to allow the eyes to rest because there is a lot going. Coming from a designer's perspective, thought was put into this but i would have to edit this space because the function seem to get lost with everything going on around it . Creating impact in a smaller space is not always easy but the trick is instead of adding a lot of smaller pieces, bigger is better while creating impact. Ikea is known for storage and function in small spaces as well but that was not executed properly. I hope my opinion was not taken in any way to bash your work but taken as a constructive one. Good work.
Also, I'm loving how she just "threw in" the hundred dollar rug and two-hundred dollar leather chair. If your audience is people on a budget, stop cheating them! And if not, stop pretending!!!! 😡
it looks great, but it was very deceiving. it was $500 for the decor, not the actual room. Also, it is unreasonable to not include the paint costs just because you didn't need to purchase them.
Yes, paint is really expensive now. However, my local eco store sells donated paint at a great price. I think there are some other places that will sell paint at cost price and resell unused paint.
Sad to see the negative comments as I think you did a fabulous job and there are some really creative ideas in this video. It has inspired me to think outside the box for some fun new DIY projects. I really like the idea of the special hooks for the entry way, my husband built one like that using an old barrel stave that he stained and had old faucet pieces it is is pretty funky and works perfectly in our garage for umbrellas etc-feel free to use that idea. The specialty gold lighting was really awesome!
One hawt mess the prices are indeed really low compared to other ones. The work done here is absolutely remarkable, I don't know how you can find even cheaper stuff and keep quality. Try go to thrift stores and garage sales for your extremely low budget, but keep on mind that they will need to get fixed and that will cost you extra money.
o0WarmBreeze0o I didn't say my budget was low, I was under the impression she would be furnishing the apartment at a very low cost of $500 is what made me click on the video. I didn't say that the place didn't look good either. Re read the comment.
Well they did keep under the budget of 500. And the title specifically says 'makeover'; and while that doesn't completely describe what they did, it does imply that the owner already has some furniture...
Not realistic. (1) foot bed is a wood divider, person has to be very still and not knock off or accidentally kick off the wood divider when sleeping. (2) No closet space. No need for explanation (3) mirror she put is way too high, she could only see half her face? Is she mad or what? (4) she wasted space in what could have been a study nook or closet. (5) You have to walk carefully to make sure you dont knock off all the plants and garbage she put on the floor. (6) that thing to hang jackets, she could have put smaller hooks to hang keys as well? Duh. (7) ship skin? Really?!
The thing that she put up for jackets was not quite level. It was crooked all the time she placed it against the wall. They had a dark pink wall when they were showing it off. I was under the impression she might paint that one wall. Even though it was dark pink and only on one wall it should not make the apt. appear even smaller. She could have painted the flimsy t-shirt holder white, the frame of the mirror could have been painted white, etc.
[1:11] "I don't think Carla has space for a side table ... stools like are a great place to put books or water beside your bed." [7:48] really nice stool has been ruined with paint for no reason and a plant shoved on top. Can we just put that plant somewhere sensible? You want to make it look like one big living room, but then you want to conceal the sleeping area. Small places lack storage, so wouldn't you get a bed with drawers instead of specifically "low to the ground" for which a reason was not made clear, then the little cupboard is blocked by the bed, so even that can't be used.
TravelWell omg for real tho..... She said space for bottle or Books AND LITERALLY HAS A PLANT THERE.. Like where am I supposed to put the Book you said? 😂

I loved this makeover!!!! So great. In the little alcove beside the bed: I would have ditched the wall decal for a simple stenciled, taped off- patterned, accent wall, using sample paint; or hung an inexpensive rug as a tapestry, for a more rental friendly choice. I would have replaced the metal shelving unit for a more to- scale piece, to place the stereo equipment on. I love the Fjalbo wall units! They have that industrial influence, featuring black metal mesh; but with warm wood accents. And maybe placed a plant or 2 on top, for added interest.
Love this video and this girl, she was so to the point and not too chatty..pls post more of her and her decorating styles..how about for seniors, yes iam one of them..
I was expecting something else... this does not help the studio. I mean, I love the items and the style and decoration but spacially it all makes it feel smaller.
I know this isn’t new, but I never saw it! I live in a studio in NYC so this was super helpful. It turned out so cute! I also do believe in displaying things that I love, turning collectibles into little displays. 🤎
The space you designed looks so much like my little (10'x10') studio apartment when I was in university! My single bed doubled as a sofa with giant throw pillows during the daytime (my night pillows were stored in boxes under the bed). I had a cool accent chair I purchased on a super sale, an IKEA bookcase, a work desk, a small sink I turned into a kitchenette fitted out with everything but a stove, and beautiful pale green and pink full-length curtains. My colour palette was seriously adhered to even though almost everything was a gift, second hand, or purchased on sale. I even had a key storage because I was always misplacing my keys. Repainting and sewing or crafting stuff was so much fun. As I think about it, some of the items I made or repainted are still in use in the homes of friends and family. If only I'd put that much effort into my studies... lol. That brings back memories. (I wish they'd had UA-cam back in the days of the dinosaur. I would have had a channel for sure.)
I used to love that show 🤣 it reminds me of my youngest brother, we’d always sing the opening credits song together and do the voices etc when we were little. It has a special place in my heart 🥰☺️
Just stumbled upon this video. Whether I could get the exact pieces used or not didn't bother me. I was fascinated by the thought process of it all, and how a bare, blank room became a warm and cozy home. When I walk into an empty room, that is all I'm able to see. I don't have an interior designer's eye. It was the neatest thing for me to 'go shopping' at IKEA in the video :) and see what inspired Chatelaine(?). I would not know where to begin! Watching it all come together was really cool to see and I loved the finished product. I felt sorry to see quite a few critical comments about functionality or pricing. Those things can be adjusted and I guess some substitutions could be made to suit personal preference, if need be? I just loved the beginning-to-end very creative makeover of this room and feel absolutely inspired now. : ) ty!
The only bed option for such a small space is a Murphy bed or a ikea Hemnes that has a couch like shape, tons of storage and also pulls out to a large double ved

I'm itching to see the kitchen(ette) and closet space (I thought the alcove was a closet-sans-rod & door - like an open design). Maybe you have that elsewhere??? [And yes - triple brava on the room divider & say hey that she owned it already - well done!]
Don't understand how this is "on a budget" but you buy the real sheep skin rugs (40 each) instead of the fake (12-14$ ea). Nice to know you love sheep being killed for your rugs.

No I love it too! I actually LOVE the idea of the bed being like a couch...my sister and I are renting a very small garage apt together and her bed is actually in the living/dining area, but during the day its propped with lots of comfy pillows and used as a couch. I pretty much did the same with my twin bed in my room so I can be super comfy while I work on my laptop (self-employed). Bonus, you don't need a foot rest since the bed is so long! I think a lot of people who love it just don't bother to comment and move on to the next video. People who don't are the ones who actually decide to leave a comment it seems lol.

The apartment was splendid to begin with. Sheesh.
Good work.
Parez Morris I like you. You'll make a good Teacher or Life Coach
I agree with you, I am studying interior design and this is not very well done. Storage is almost completely missing.
I agree about the clutter. I could not relax in this space. I will still watch more videos though. Thanks!
Parez Morris Can you give us an example link of what's a good place that's put together? I'm curious because I'm trying to put together place too!
Parez Morris agree, too messy
Also, I'm loving how she just "threw in" the hundred dollar rug and two-hundred dollar leather chair. If your audience is people on a budget, stop cheating them! And if not, stop pretending!!!! 😡
Yeah. They did not price everything
And a 200 dollar bed
I dont think she threw them in...I think the other things just belong to Carla! So she didnt have to buy them (like the round table).
Everyone knows that when they get a makeover that parts are sponsored.
I agree, Hannah.
it looks great, but it was very deceiving. it was $500 for the decor, not the actual room.
The specialty gold lighting was really awesome!
but where is the closet ??
Another hack is simply using a day bed
i feel like this video is really deceiving, i thought you were going to actually get cheap ikea furniture and keep the space put together. Not cool!
Re read the comment.
spoly 13 why do you think I kept watching the video in the first place? By the way I can quote the $500 part, it's on the video.
Well they did keep under the budget of 500. And the title specifically says 'makeover'; and while that doesn't completely describe what they did, it does imply that the owner already has some furniture...
Camille Lemmens she said furnish in the video but ok!
Omg guys, just enjoy the makeover idea. If you are going to create a makeover, you can take great ideas for your own.
Not realistic.
(1) foot bed is a wood divider, person has to be very still and not knock off or accidentally kick off the wood divider when sleeping.
(2) No closet space. No need for explanation
(3) mirror she put is way too high, she could only see half her face? Is she mad or what?
(4) she wasted space in what could have been a study nook or closet.
(5) You have to walk carefully to make sure you dont knock off all the plants and garbage she put on the floor.
(6) that thing to hang jackets, she could have put smaller hooks to hang keys as well? Duh.
(7) ship skin? Really?!
Ma jesusa Galapon hooks could be added underneath for keys
The thing with the mirror is really weird.
She said those knobs r for jackets??!! Good luck hanging heavy jacket on that!!
agreed on all 7 points! the mirror height was super weird. maybe carla, who she talked about throughout, yet we never saw in person is 6 ft tall.
Unquestionably, my favorite item is the "Leather Butterfly Chair" ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Nice cameo by Cosmo and Wanda 6:21

I have always loved the idea of a bed functioning as a couch. Love the shelving!!! Very cool studio.
Cute but I don't want anyone sitting on my bed!
Ammi13 22 exactly
facts . my grandma always said no one should be on a bed in street clothes ... words I live by LOL
Tie them very well and position them there, they will sit
same, unless I'm sleeping with them.
Same here. My mom taught me "no street clothes on the bed" and I've always stuck to that.
I actually think this looks really cute, but I just imagine hearing some demon knock on that little door behind the bed. It would freak me out tbh.
[1:11] "I don't think Carla has space for a side table ... stools like are a great place to put books or water beside your bed."
[7:48] really nice stool has been ruined with paint for no reason and a plant shoved on top.
Women are emotional creatures, but not usually logical ones. They know how to make a room look cute but not how to make it functional or practical.
LAB-lil' Angry B!tch Try watching Mr Kate on youtube. She's a bit annoying and can't really sing, but she's amazing at interior design.
Well it’s her apartment, she can do what she pleases.
Anna C She can make a room look cute but she isn't very logical. That's why she has a guy to do all the pratical & logical carpentry & building skills. There's lots of Female & Male decorators, but only a few female Carpenters.
So many negative comments. I think the room is inspiring! Alexandra did a terrific job and addressed all the client's needs.
Looks great, and would love to see a floor plan with this type of video.
Can I volunteer my small NYC space for you to work in?! hahaha. Great job. It looks AMAZING!!!
Great ideas but maybe next time you may want to say how you styled a home instead of made over--very misleading
She said makeover.
And maybe placed a plant or 2 on top, for added interest.
too much...too crowded
The Black heart and the picture above the bed are competing for the focal point! Need to choose one!
All that stuff in my living space would stress me out. To each his own. I love it in other people's home just not mine.
Love this video and this girl, she was so to the point and not too chatty..pls post more of her and her decorating styles..how about for seniors, yes iam one of them..
Too crowded
Oh my gosh, I remember watching this video when it first came out and loving it... only now connecting the dots! Alexandra Gater!!
Alexandra is one of my favorite designers. I was a bit distracted everyone on social media is suddenly thin.
I have those cat curtains in my living room. They are NOT too much. Lol
I want to see the kitchen and bathroom because this is the cutest little apartment ever.
The closet area is shown real quick in the beginning of the video its next to the stereo alcove. Also you get a quick glimpse of the kitchen too.
Now she will always feel like she has Cosmo and wonda with her! Beautiful chairs and decor!
I used to love that show 🤣 it reminds me of my youngest brother, we’d always sing the opening credits song together and do the voices etc when we were little. It has a special place in my heart 🥰☺️
If I had such racks at the end of my bed I'd kick everything left and right while asleep 😂😂
I really like the shelves as a divider
What about hanging her clothes/closet?
You said whole apt so I was looking for bathroom and closet space
: ) ty!
Turned out great But the bed is definitely not a couch..
I think she did a great job.she was able to do so much with very little space!!!
The only bed option for such a small space is a Murphy bed or a ikea Hemnes that has a couch like shape, tons of storage and also pulls out to a large double ved
Haha! The butterfly chair! I wanted one so bad so I went to a store with my sis and sat in one, nek minnit, help! I couldn’t get out of that chair, my sis had to pull me up bahaha! Guess I don’t want one then 😄
why did she spend 40$ on each sheepskin when she could have cut the cruelty and costs??? this is so dumb i thought this is about saving money????
they are fake as far as I know (I think she took that many for dramatic effect on camera)
noo the fake ones from ikea are only 14$ ! i have 2 for my chairs (: theyre soft n comfy and affordable
la la lucy she sin Canada. The ones she bought are 30 dollars us. They are wool
theyre skins lol, it literally says RENS; sheepskin, white
la la lucy it's fake, it's not a real sheep skin. Besides real sheep skin doesnt look that way.
I love your videos! I did the bed and Ikea bookshelf room divider thing in this little bachelor apartment I had in Toronto 5 years ago. It was amazing how much you can for into those big bookshelves from Ikea!
Wow my favorite decorator on youtube... and i’ve seen plenty.
I know, I just moved & found her channel the day after...perfect timing, I am binge-watching the videos in between unpacking & organizing and getting so many great ideas!
I wish we could’ve seen the entire apartment decorated with kitchen and restroom. But I think it came out nice!
How do you attach the lighting to the bricks and mortar ?
That leather butterfly chair! ❤️❤️❤️
$500? I need to see the receipts
Alla Skalikeu omg I thought that was all for 40 ! Shook !
Yeah it just... makes no sense. I'm not a vegan or anything but it's literally cheaper and just better to get faux sheep skins, that woman was daft af
😭😭😭😭
Sheep are not killed for their wool. They are sheared, especially when it gets hot, and the wool will grow back. Like us having a haircut.
@@lucyliu3198 You are right, but these are not just wool. It's literally called a sheepSKIN rug.. Which the skin/leather is also harvested.
Love The way you made The lamp! I have a mirror like this from ikea and now I know how to use it! Thanks . Like The curtains, great idea. Nice colours on the chairs. Lots Of good ideas! You are very creative, but may be not as practical.....? Wher schould The clothes go???
did she literally just call an INDUSTRIAL CLIP LIGHT a SCONCE!?!
I love the rental friendly tips
Am I the only one who likes it’s finished form?
Oh... ok
I love it!
I loved it!
You've outdone yourself, Alexandria!!! Love it!!!
"Teeny, teeny tiny studio apartment."
*Looks around at my own studio flat where there's no room for a sofa so I have a giant beanbag instead.*
"Her place is a palace".
I want your job! My place is done. Must find ways to create happy spaces for others, now, because how good and satisfying it makes me feel in my accomplishments.
I liked everything but the heart, it looked really tacky lol. Otherwise everything was super cute
Super cozy bed! Just overlook your foot going through the hole in the shelf and pushing a plant off the stool when you stretch your hand. It'll be a pain to clean this place though with knick knacks scattered all around.
Thoughts on how to put stuff on the walls without making holes?
Mark Ocampo Command 3M hooks are amazing! They really hold heavy pieces of art on the wall.
Alexandra Gater the command hooks only work on smooth painted surfaces though don't they? They won't work on wallpaper and particularly textured wallpaper?
Go to Apartment Therapy and search 'rental walls'. They will tell you more than you ever wanted to know.
I just put holes all over my walls even though my land lord didn't want me to. 👀 👀👀
There were already a ton of nails in the walls. Oh well.
I like the light on the bracket and the decal ,.
More like 30,000 dollars
I dig that hacked mirror light. Smart.
*Studio makeover on a budget*
* grabs 40 dollar rug *
* grabs 10 more *
Ik it was just funny
As for your "this must be the place" wall piece... It's from a song by The Talking Heads called "Naive Melody". It's a beautiful song. Listen to it with your friend if ya'll didn't already know.
