I'M SO LONESOME I COULD CRY (1949) by Hank Williams

- One of my favourite Hank Williams songs. Hank recorded this track on 30 August 1949 in Ohio. With him were ace studio musicians: Zeke Turner (electric guitar), Louis Innes (rhythm guitar), Jerry Byrd (steel guitar), Ernie Newton (bass), and Tommy Jackson (fiddle). They were not part of the Drifting Cowboys who toured with Hank at that time (although a couple did do stints with them). The Drifting Cowboys did record with Hank on many other sessions.
According to Colin Escott who wrote a biography on Hank "Here is the chill of the void that would become one of the hallmarks of Hank's writing. It is the most oft cited example of Hank Williams the hillbilly poet, but its poetic form comes from the fact that it was originally intended to be spoken, not sung. Acuff-Rose staff writer Vic McAlpin said that Hank had written it for his first session of recitations slated for January 1950, but at some point he changed his mind. "I think ol' Hank needs to record this," he told McAlpin. Hank was concerned that some of the lines might sound self-consciously artsy and alienate his audience, but, as he so often did, he tried out the song on friends, fellow performers, and Fred Rose, and let them convince him that he had excelled".
Veteran Nashville songwriter Jimmy Rule recalls: "One day I was over at Acuff-Rose, our mutual publisher, and Hank handed me a piece of paper and said, "Do you think people will understand what I'm trying to say when I say this?" The line was 'Did you ever see a robin weep when leaves begin to die? It's because he's lost the will to live; I'm so lonesome I could cry'. Hank had this lonesome streak, and I think it was largely caused by his marital problems. I think he wrote it out of a feeling of loneliness that stayed very much with him. He would be the natural person to write 'I'm so lonesome I could cry'."
I have done my own slideshow video of this song, using as many images of Hank singing that I could find. Also included a few images of the musicians who played on this session, Jerry Byrd and Tommy Jackson. I hope that people not into Hank might take the time to explore his music.

So true man I just told the girl of my dreams that I loved her and she rejected me. I'm still hurtin a week later.
To have a better song Hank himself would have to come down from heaven and play a guitar made by angles. And even then people would still argue over such was better
Please take a listen to Al Greens cover of this incredible song, and speaking of heartbreak songs, "how can you mend a broken heart " also by Al Green live is something special.

This is real American music. All the pop Hollywood tries to export is nonsense. Don't listen to it. Keep listening to this.

Hey Big Guy, Would you tell me anything about your country's conflict? I'm 62 year's old and I can't make head's nor tails out of it especially with our country's talking head's bought and paid for by the ones we dare not talk about....
My uncle Willie was KIA in Germany in 1945 shortly before WWII ended, he was 21 year's old....
And over the year's I've read that US General's serving in that war lamented that we/America may have been on the wrong side of that war....
I have concluded that most war's are some rich man's trick as they play both side's and collect the spoils.... Evil, satanic individuals with bloodlines traceable to the "falling ones".... Nephilim I understand....
And just my humble opinion and having little education in regards to history and most other subject matter....
And I apoligise as I know I'm light-years out of context here....
I saw Hank Williams Jr. In concert a couple time's in the eighties, he put on great shows albeit in one show he was quiet "juiced up" as was the rest of us...
Funny I may never forget him telling the audience and I quote he said "folk's you know I spent the first nine month's of my life trying to get out of the womb" and folk's I want you to know that since I was about 15 "I've spent the rest of my life trying to get back in there"....
He lamented all the silly-ass Hank Williams imitators out there -his words- and said "tonight you'll know the Real Hank Williams Jr. or something close to that....
I think my friend's and I would vote HWJ for president if given the chance, he'd probably take Vlad and some more world leaders fishing out on some big lake and end all the goophy war's via sheer comeraderie, trust and solidarity....
Peace young Brother....❤❤❤
He is without a doubt one of the greatest songwriters their ever was.

My beautiful Mother was a drummer she did Hank,CCR, Patsy Cline and others but Hank was her favorite. She raised 6 children Had a spotless home, was a wonderful cook and lived to be 83. Every Hank song reminds us of Mom but this song is the one that is felt so deep in the heart . Shortly after she passed this song, no kidding came on the radio. My jaw hit the floor... Ironically, drums were not allowed in country music in Hank Williams day. The guitarist would loosen the low "E" string and pluck it slowly to make it sound like a bass drum.
I was at this time 1949 courting the girl I later married after 7 years, those beautiful innocent days, we listened to music, danced with families and friends, still remember those younger days, now I wish she was still with me. RIP. Darling.

That's a tough question. Because there are so many dozens and dozens of great country artists. Some are just a little more humorous, some a little bit more rock some a little bit more romantic etc Why not try maybe some Johnny Cash, (great traditional country), Creedence Clearwater Revival and Leonard Skinner, (a slight bit more rock). When you seek their music look for there "greatest hits". That way you will hear the best they have done. Enjoy my friend

Vivid, abstract, poetic lyrics and images swirling within a rural, southern funeral dirge. As if Van Gogh had picked up a pencil and guitar instead of a brush. This is the blues on another level. I've never heard anything that comes close to this American masterpiece.
Nicely put buster brown.
so true
So True!
Hank was a blues man as much as a country one
What a beautiful soul !
So beautifully stated, Mr. Brown. I sing at country festivals around my hometown (some videos are here ), and love to do Hank songs. This one is next on my list.
its conciseness of words filled w/ such density is the sign of a poet. absolutely nothing wasted & allows the listener to feel in blanks. I think frost when I hear this, but i get where you're going w/ van gogh... it is strong, but imo some american artist have reached the same type of heights. several of dylans & cash's best (who both were strongly influenced by hank) reach the same areas. ive often thought hendrix in wind cries mary also gets close to this. van morrison. or the doors, crystal ship..... one thing id assume we'd agree on, i hope more young people dig into hanks stuff. hes a great influence to listen to if one is trying to create quality.

JohnnyRebKy ...A whole lot more beautiful, heartfelt melodies!
souls like his never get that much time...one of the sad mysteries of life.
JohnnyRebKy-----The demons that killed Hank Williams were the same problems that gave him such " passion , soul , feeling , sadness , " . Some other country singers such as George Jones and Hank Snow carried a lot of pain as well , but were fortunate to be healthier . There were other country singers such as Lefty Frizzle who were self destructive . The bluegrass singers Carter Stanley and Keith Whitley followed a similar path . The white blues singer/ guitar player / harmonica player , Alan " Blind Eye " Wilson of the blues band , Canned Heat , fit in a similar category .
Bill Eddy Hank was going to quit . Like other singers in the future they were worth more money after death than they ever were alive. I’ve never totally bought the explanation of his death and apparently Hank Jr doesn’t either. It was reported he was badly bruised as if he had been beaten. We will never know but I have serious questions about it. If he was going to quit that meant a lot of money lost for many people. Money is a root of all evil...next to Audrey
@@JohnnyRebKy Yeah i think it was kind of suspicious, do you think audrey had something to do with it or the guy who was driving

Hello David, I'm getting a bit stronger every day. I still have some that I can't believe he's gone. I'm trying to be positive but it's hard. They're having a celebration for Robert in December at a club that still hosts live bands. They've gotten the most popular radio DJ to host it. There are going to be 4 bands that Robert was in. Each one will be doing the music that they wrote and recorded. They are trying to get as many of the original members as possible to perform. In between each set they'll be showing videos of other projects he was involved in. He was with Mitch Ryder for 19 years while still pursuing his own music. He was considered one of the best lead guitarists to come out of Detroit. As I now have all of the memorabilia and photos, I've been going through 50 years of his life. I get sad but I realize he had an incredible life. More importantly he had fun. I'm glad I got to be with such an amazing man for 27 years. He was not only talented, but gifted. He played with Chuck Berry when he was 17. He went on to tour the world. He loved sharing his music with everyone, he taught guitar for many years. One of his students has gone on to reach the level of stardom that most musicians dream of. I'll be ok, thanks for asking.
@@marvintownsend9174 Thank You for asking. I'm going through hundreds of photos and memorabilia from a 50 year career. He didn't throw anything away but didn't file everything. I found dozens of videos and recordings. He was a far bigger " star " than I realized. We hooked up in the last half of his life. As I look through the items I realize how humble he was but he knew he was blessed with a gift. When Mitch Ryder would open for a huge band many of the musicians would steal a glance at the opening band. Mitch can still sing his butt off. He always had a talented backing band but Robert stood out. Inevitably he would be approached by the headliner's band and became friends with most. He would jam with many. I could list them but it would take too long. A couple you probably know are SRV, Fleetwood Mac, Steve Earle, Doyle Bramhall, Suzi Quatro, Kid Rock, Don Was, and on and on. I don't know why I'm telling you this. I guess it's because he didn't brag about it. I wish I could talk to him about some of his experiences. As fun as that all sounds it's not what I miss. I miss the man who was my best friend. I had the first birthday without him last month. In 2 days I'm facing the first Thanksgiving alone. I know Christmas will be rough as well. My life goes on for some reason. Maybe it's to share his memories with the people who attend the celebration of his life next month. I have to keep pushing ahead and organize the items I will share with his fans and friends. I just need to stop thinking about things like asking him if we need butter at the market. I'm half now and it's hard.

Just watched that episode last night, so good, as is the whole series. Found myself playing a few Hank songs out on the deck tonight in memory to Hank.
I was born just up the road from where Hank Williams was born in South Alabama. Hank Williams still has a big influence here. Interstate 65 that runs through Butler county was designated as the Hank Williams Lost Highway by the state of Alabama sometime back. I recently met a gentleman and his wife from Great Britain that were passing through here not too long ago heading up to Montgomery to visit Hank Williams grave. He told me that he grew up hearing Hank Williams music and his dad and his Grandfather were huge Hank Williams fans. Strange how a man that died at the age of 29, right at 70 years ago, still has such a huge fan base, with music that people can relate to, that was written mostly by himself. Hank left this world way too early. But, he left a mark that will NEVER be forgotten or go away.
Carl....We moved to Chapman in 1967 and lived there until 1975...Daddy work for UC and we lived close to the mill. Will never forget Hank's cousin, a forklift driver at the mill coming up to the house to play Mr. William's songs for dad and his friends while they might have had a few toddies....Thanks for your post
I've traveled that interstate many times driving to go see my dad, when he was dying from cancer in Gulf Shores, Al.

I’m a person of color, not expected to like country music but, but ever since I was a child this song has made me cry.
Blue green? Red purple?
Hello Elaine, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
Real country music is felt by everyone. 😌
a lonesome heart does not have a color, if it did it would be blue.
No one can tell you what good music is. It’s a personal choice

Hello
How are you doing?
Hello Kris, how are you doing today.?
As a kid My Father and I would Spend the Summer in Alabama ,My Grandfather loved Hank Williams sometimes we would run into racism because we were Black, but My Grandfather was known in the town so when they would find out that we were his family they would leave us alone . I loved the South and learned to love Hank Williams 🤗🤗🤗
@@prudentialsecurity9300thank you for looking past the few dickheads we have down here. Most of us love you no matter what color you are. We’re all brothers and sisters, we’re all in this together. And nothing brings us closer than good music, and ofc your overwhelmingly positive world view. The only way to fight racism is with love.
I remember when I was a teenager I thought country music was a goofy twangy joke. I'm turning 60 this year and I've finally realised how powerful Hank's music is - and that's not even in a historical context! There are so many lines that literally give me goose bumps! No deep metaphors, no flowery adjectives just emotional pow pow pow! It's a rare gift to be able to write so simply but so powerfully - sorry Hank, I truly feel remorse for my adolescent disregard!
Here here!
well said. he had a frost like sparse style of writing lyrics. yet as you said, those concise words were very dense, esp w/ his emotive voice. he was the chief influence of dylan and cash. wish more people knew that and hank could get more ears w/ younger people.
I'am 71, and fell the same way you did , now the only music I like is OLD country , NOT the new crap !
I'm only 16 I've been listening to this stuff my whole life.
Yea, Hank did it and not once did he glorify killing police officers, no calling women "bitches" and "ho's" no walking around with his pants falling, no "bling" or other stupid azzed bullsh*......nope Hank was simply a great song writer/singer and was able to relate what many of us felt. Thank you Hank.
Hank Williams understood instinctually what we all needed. Not for the hurt to go unexpressed, but for the pain to be made gentle with beautiful music. He paints a picture of loneliness that is sharp and probing but tempers that ineffable dread that waits for us in the dead of night when we feel the bodiless fear of being alone with a sweet refrain and a winsome twang.
It still hurts, but it will pass. We can survive it.
I've never understood why people like to listen to sad songs when they drink, but damned if I ain't drunk & enjoying this song. I love the way his voice matches the guitar. Its beautiful in its simplicity. Just perfect.
Yea cant go wrong with a nice wiskey and some hank williams.
Did your name come from con-air?
Cuz
Absolutely 💯 %!
My grandfather passed away today...he made me listen to all of Hank Williams Jr. ..Sr...all the time and I hated it but I am glad that he left me with a memory that I will never forget :-(
My grandma used to sing this. She passed away a few years ago - at 97 - can't hear this without thinking of her and crying.
I am here because of my papa too.. its been 17 years since I heard his beautiful voice
Thanks to Ken Burns documentary “Country Music” I learned all about Hank Williams and heard this song for the first time in my entire life. I woke up this morning with this beautiful song in my head and started to cry. My dear cat just died and all the birds she used to watch outside my windows are making me so sad. And I see here it was recorded on my birthday, makes it even more special.
He ,is was. great
Julie Cleveland Sincerest condolences on the loss of your cat.
You can just feel Hanks oft-broken heart in the words of his songs. He could sure sing what a lot of folks felt in those situations.
Isn't it funny how we just wake up with a song in our head that we've never heard of haven't heard of thought about in ages? This morning I woke with the song" Catfish John in my head. So of coure, I had to Google and listen. Then I run on to you, who had a similar experience 4 days ago. I think Jesus is trying to tell us something. I was done home just after dark about an hour ago. And the moon was doing some very strange things. Then I hear this song, talking about the moon just went behind a cloud....eyes to the sky and may God watch over you.
Sorry about the loss of your cat, pets are so dear to us.
The lyrics are poetic beauty. "The silence of a falling star, lights up a purple sky ... "
So sad birds are silent and suicidal.
❤
As a kid born in the early sixties ( 1961 ) I grew up listening to this and the old school country, I have flash backs to my childhood every time I hear these songs, better times. I have these on the original vinyl albums and wouldn't sell them for any amount. Gold !
That's cool. Born in '57. When I was little we always went to grandparents on Saturday night for supper(wasn't called dinner back then). After supper grandad turned old B&W tv on. We watched Porter Wagoner(Dolly was a pup), Buck Owens and THE GRAND OLE OPRY. Great back in the day days.
Real country, real music. Old time radio hits.
No Country artist dead or alive can touch Hank
You either like Ol Hank or you're wrong.
Willie Nelson can
I love Hank Williams. I'm an Englishwoman living in UK 🇬🇧 Midlands. My dad used to play Hank's records from late 50's so grew up listening to this great country singer poet. American Country music wasn't so big in U.K. back then but we listened to it all the time. Many of the old greats. God Bless you Hank for your special kind of Country Music. Makes think of my late dad. I am now 75 and long for my childhood and youth. So happy with my mom and dad. Thank you Hank for being part of my memories. Such beautiful,, haunting songs! 👌❤️👏🙏🏻🇬🇧🤗Xxx
Hello how are you doing?
Hello 👋 Jane,
How are you doing hope your having a wonderful holidays over there with you and your family
I am 14 and i grew up listening to old country and rock n roll...but this man...he created them both.
Hank Williams is the greatest singer/songwriter of all time. Can never be duplicated.
The 3 thousand plus people who gave this song a thumbs down cannot have a heart or soul. This is easily, the very best song ever written and performed!
How are you doing dear?
I totally agree,a most beautiful song and definitely the best song ever written
They should have their ears amputated.
I'm a metal head, but I love some good old country. Especially Hank.
Same here. I like all the outlaws.
Well good thing Volbeat did an awesome cover of this :D
yup, same here, can't deny genius musicianship
Same here really like the sadness in it...
I like music with soul and passion. Something with a real feeling behind it. I honestly don't like new country music because this element of being real and true has gotten lost along the way somewhere. Anyway I mostly listen to rap and indie nowadays but here I am, drunk... listening to the real country music. The music we're forgetting more and more each day.
I grew up in the big city and mostly listened to pop and rock growing up, but I fondly remember enjoying a few country songs...and this one most of all. It struck a deep chord in me 60 years ago that resonates to this very day.
this is the song my wife listened to today i am 84 R.i.P i love you
Alex Rodriguez She's still bringing beautiful memories to you! That's love ❤
God Bless you, Alex! You had a good marriage!
My mum loved it so do i,,, RIP MUM. Love you.❤
I wish there was still real love like yours. You're so lucky to have had your soulmate! You'll be together again ❤️
Hank was the epitome of what country music is the first one of the absolute best and this song is the epitome of loneliness, heartbreak and sorrow! RIP HANK WILLIAMS SR.
What a beautiful voice good memories I love this song. How are you Abbie ?
Hahaha. People will always remember you for something. How your day been?
Hi 👋
Hello 👋 Abbie,
How are you doing hope your having a wonderful holidays over there with you and your family
If the good Lord's willing and the creek don't rise, I'll be listening to Ol' Hank for the rest of my days with a smile on my face.
Sing it Hank!.
Hello how are you doing..?

I'm ok Bro, how's you?.
@@keiranbradley3238 I’m doing good thanks for asking…

Hello there,
Sorry for the late reply.
I'm from Glasgow, Scotland.
Born and raised.
I was listening to this song every night at 5 years old with my too 2 sisters because my brother we loved so much went to Vietnam. And we missed him so much. My Dad and Mama introduced me to Mr
Hank Williams.
The best country music is made by dimming the lights, strumming the guitar, and making believe Hank Williams never died.
This song dedicated to my beloved dog who just died prematurely. She was independent and loved the woods. She only came out at night and was white, so I named her Ghost. I fed her for four years and try to keep her, but she loved her independence so she would scale the fence. I love you Ghost....RIP.
RIP Ghost, she will wait for you. And one day, many decades from hence, you will see her. And you will both be the most independent souls there ever could be, together.
@@akshaykumarjha9136 Thanks for the kind thoughts. They say time heals when someone you love dies. But not always the case. She died 2 months ago, but to me it feels as if she died yesterday......
@@sananto6896 I know your pain, it will never go away, just become bearable. You will go on with your life but every now and then the emotions will come back pouring like it happened right now. Believe it is better to feel hurt than to feel like you forgot her. What comes into this world must also leave and that is the one true constant of life. Keep her in your memories, that's the best you can do for a loved one.
My condolences. She'll be waiting for you at the bridge, to which you'll both cross together.
@@woody8577 ...thank you....I had pets before but not really close to them. I had no clue that people and animals can become so close. Now I care as much for animals as for people. Or maybe care more for animals. It is amazing how Ghost changed my life.
Hank was not just a great singer. He was a great songwriter. Some of the things
that flowed from his hand to paper were truly heart wrenching and ached of life's
pains. Hank was a master at putting pain and heartbreak into a song and the fact
that he suffered through both helped his cause in making such great music. The fact
he could pour all that emotion into a less than 3 minute song is just amazing.
@James Logan A Teardrop on a Rose is probably my favorite. I really love the songs 6 More Miles to the Graveyard,
The Funeral,The Log Train,Alone and Forsaken, I love his big songs I really do but these songs that not many people
know or even got radio play really show Hanks angst and grit and in many ways his real artistry. I am sure people will
mention many more and without doubt they will be right on but you dig for his nuggets and that to me is where you'll
find the real Hank Williams.
@James Logan I am from Branford,Ct. I love music. I listen to it about 13 to 15 hours a day. I own about
2,000 cds. I must admit there are types of jazz that do put me to sleep but I do like most music. Today's
music is not something I am enamored with maybe because I was born in 66 or maybe I listened to the
greatest decade of music which was the 70s. Although if I am to be honest 65 to 75 might be the best decade.
Anyhoo I do love music and I listen to it all day especially during the day as there is garbage on tv so I listen to
music and I really do enjoy watching reactors as well. Especially Elizabeth Zharoff,Doug Helvering,Janet Tabaka,
Julia Nilon,Beth Roars, Lolli Wren and there are others that my brain can't think of at the moment. But in the end
sometimes it is just best to lay back and put on Pink Floyd and let Dave Gilmour take your soul to heaven.
@James Logan If its on the phone then I think I do which I do not use due to my eyes. My doctor won't let
me use it for anything even though I love playing games and sometimes the occasional Firefly episode or
whatever Comcast has. I just had my right eye fixed and on February 1st they will then fix my left eye so fun
times still ahead for this Irish cowboy. I am sadly stuck using a desktop which is fine because I have a sweet
new massive monitor but soon I'll be relegated to CDs for awhile. So much fun ahead for me. Happy Happy
Joy Joy.
I’m 68 and just getting into Mr. Williams music. Just beautiful and soulful songs sung by a man with feeling. I had no idea that he was this great.
Every time I hear this song my soul aches, just wish to comfort his soul...A higher, spiritual love...
Yes. While here he was in pain, which was necessary to create his music. He is comforted now.
I think about my dad ever time I hear Hank
It's a soothing voice
My grandmother loved she pass it on to me
What a brooks
Saddest song I have ever had the privilege of listening to. Thank you Hank. People need to hear this.
The true king of country music.
Hey how are you doing..?
I had a friend who was homeless most of his life, he could sing this song with his guitar and sounded so good
"The silence of a fallen star lights up a purple sky"... probably my favorite lyric of all time!
This song is so timeless, it still chokes me up many decades later.
In my opipnon...the greatest country song ever written...lyrics are amazing and have so many layers of meaning....incredible.
back when the nights were truly lonely, and wonderful
I used to sing this song when I was a kid out in the hayfields by myself ( along with some of his other hits)--such good memories.
Back in 1967 while in the service stationed in Thailand I was playing this song in the barracks on my reel to reel tape recorder. The G.I. who bunked above me was married and missing his wife a lot. He started crying and I pretended not to notice, I always felt guilty for unintentionally making him sad. When ever I hear this song that's what I remember.
That's beautiful. Hope he made it and yall are still in touch.
Thanks for sharing!
Ed Rascal not a puss at all. The lonely GI was missing his wife. Unless your wife is a total hag or you are an asshole, you would feel the same way he did.
Thank you (and him) for your service *salutes*
Thank you for your service
My husband had a beautiful voice. This was one of my favorite songs. He learned to play it and sing it and I must say it was prettier than when Hank Williams did it.
Hear that lonesome whippoorwill
He sounds too blue to fly.
The midnight train is whining low
I'm so lonesome I could cry.
I've never seen a night so long
When time goes crawling by.
The moon just went behind a cloud
To hide its face and cry.
Did you ever see a robin weep
When leaves began to die?
That means he's lost the will to live
I'm so lonesome I could cry.
The silence of a falling star
Lights up a purple sky.
And as I wonder where you are
I'm so lonesome I could cry.
Hi Era hope you’re okay?
One of the greatest songs of America and the world.
In my humble opinion this is the greatest country song of all time.
+David Bergin Move it on Over
he reached out and touched me deeply!
Mark Kelly Whoa the world? That’s a big statement right there.
Sugar Booga do you contest it?
I come here when I’m at my lowest. Thanks Hank. You are my medicine sometimes
Hello Shonna, how are you doing today.?
My dad loved Hank Williams because he grew up in the country but I didn’t at the time because I thought black folk should just listen to Hip-Hop. I used to hate it when played his country records in the car when I wanted to listen to Lil Wayne Lmao. Now that I’m older I truly appreciate Hank and country music. Never understood Hank and his music until I went through certain experiences in life that changed me forever. All I can say is: Thanks Dad! RIP Hank❤❤❤
😅Some songs just hit you like a sack full of gravel. I'm an old heavy metal guy and the first time I really sat and listened to this after life had used me like a soccer ball, I had tears running down my face.
@ Mood! There were Certain musical Genres that I wasn’t ready for when I was a kid. I got into Heavy Metal when I was in college when I heard ‘At The Gates xx Slaughter of the Soul’ for the first time out of curiosity. Before that I was all about what was on the radio so country and rock to me back then was like Taylor Swift and Maroon 5 lmao. Old school Country music didn’t appeal to me until after I graduated college and I started traveling with a guitar. lol.
I’ve been listening to this song for my entire life. I believe it’s the best country song ever recorded.
Hello beautiful lady
How are you doing dear?
Elvis said this is the saddest song he heard in his life
He never lived to hear anything by Radiohead though!!
@@Kianmur 💯💯😂😂😂
Guess he’s never heard of a little band called Bread.
Thanks! I would say that george jones' "he stopped loving her today," has got to be in the top ten saddest songs. what do you think?
I was born in1953, loved Elvis! My Parents were wonderful people, they loved Elvis and I grew up listening to this music! I loved it!
The melodies of Hank Williams are spectacular. You can really feel the pain of heartache in his voice. These tones are not made up, you actually got to feel that emotion to sing like that!
No doubt about it! He was special!!!
O bom e velho Hank once contributed to bring happiness to this world....and did it well....Greetings from São Paulo.....2 U fellas gathered here....
As a kid in Boulder Western Australia, I used to listen to his music over a radio station called 6KG.He was and still is my favourite country singer.Country blues really.
He like Elvis can be referred to just by one name. There is only one Hank, the rest are only related to him.Riding off his coat tails.
Honestly hank 3 though doesnt try to ride the coat tails the way Jr does. 3 seems to just do his own thing and enjoys making hos own music for the sake of genuinely liking to make and play music he just happens to be called hank. And 3 could have really milked his granddads name if he wanted considering how similar his voice sounds to his granddad
I'm 17 years old and I can't get enough of Hank Williams wonderful music! He was a special talent that we lost too soon 💔
Bro you're 17, you lost nothing.. clown comment

you mean only greedy conservatives can listen to this song, well maybe because Hank Jr came out of the closet and said he was a republicon.

Good stuff. Keep it real
Garrett Hopkinson I’m 36, with the same memories. Thank goodness for the dads who raised us right. 😉
Lost my best friend 16 weeks ago to suicide. He would play this song often. I’m feeling the lyrics more now than I did then. 😢
@LEE ZOLO...Right there with you , I understand. Ain't much but would like for you to know... from a cowboy to another. You will be alright, in time. Live for him live for yourself and forgive him. Don't ask why he did what he did. You'll just be like a dog chasing his tail in a circle. Right here , people care stranger or cowboy. Hope you don't go though it again like I did more then twice. Ride straight ahead...
Spooky bro was just listening to this and got a thumbs up....
I’m truly sorry for your loss. I’m sure that your best friend was a good guy.
