Pontiac Vibe 2009 AWD - Disable Daytime Running Lights/Toggle Switch Install

- I show you my DRL toggle switch and how I installed it, as well as some tips on disassembling the dash to install your own!
Do this at your own risk! Take some time to learn some wire splicing and electronics basics before getting into this!!
Will work for any 2009+ Vibe or Toyota Matrix. Also apparently works on other certain Toyota models. Make no assumptions, it only works for certain on the '09 and up Vibe/Matrix!
**Special thanks to the genvibe.com forums for the idea! - Авто та транспорт
Just found your video, ended up just cutting the wire but thanks a lot it worked!!
Many years late, but this worked amazingly on my 09' Vibe. Thank you!
No problem! Still got mine too and still got my lights working how I want!
Gonna do this to my 09 Vibe this afternoon. Nice video.
Worked perfect on my 2010! Thanks!
Nicely done. I wonder how you found the blue wire in the first place.
Might do this on my son’s 09 Matrix. I only drive it occasionally but I prefer to be the boss of what the car is doing - I can turn the lights on all by myself. Don’t need a mommy-module to do it for me!
Eric Kurman Someone else made a post about it on genvibe, I just took their description and gave it a shot :) figured I’d make a video about it once I knew it worked
do you have a video on how to add ambient lighting on foot wells connecting/tapping it to dome light?
thanks
I just want to get rid of the DRL feature completely. I don’t need to install a switch to keep that feature. Does that mean I just need to cut that blue wire and that’s it?
I just bought a 2004 Vibe GT 6 speed, it's awesome...but hey...those pesky lights...found exactly what I was looking for...that little blue wire...thank you so much. Thanks for the bonus air filter tip. Also I now know what I need to do to get into my stereo !...Oh and btw...not bad for a first video. ps all those little compartments, aren't they great !
Yeah I don't think this will work for a 2004...you might want to check out genvibe.com for instructions on that year
Update...found the little blue wire, removed it from the plug. If you pull the e-brake, shine a light on the sensor in the dash, then start the car...problem solved

Again, THIS DOES NOT WORK FOR THE 2004 VIBE. You should probably put that blue wire back and look up how to do it on your year model.
Thanks 👍🏼
Awesome vid....was wanting to do something similar (taking the dash apart vid) but you already nailed it. One quick question for you though.... WTF is that security sensor beside your new switch add? Is that the actual motion detector sensor for the alarm?
Drew P Nutsaque Hey thanks man. I was actually thinking about doing a shorter version cuz this one is kinda long. And I really have no idea what that other thing is..it says security but I have no idea what its actual function is.
@@Mega_Mikey The Alldata manual lists it as a "Theft Deterrent Shock Sensor Microphone". I find it weird how mine also has the factory alarm but no sensor...just the wire hanging and the blank in its place. Is yours by chance a Canadian car?
Drew P Nutsaque interesting to know! No mine was built and bought in the US
So if I just cut that wire on that box behind the glove box, what would happen?
OMG,,,, I followed your instructions, taped in to wire you indicated in your video,,, turned the ignition key on,,, and both air bags and the seat-belt pre-tensioners blew up and ruined my car.... WTF!....
JUST KIDDING,,, But what if???
Sweet Jesus I looked at my email and read your comment and it didn't include the "JUST KIDDING" part and I about had a heart attack.
At any rate, if you carefully read the description and carefully pay attention in the video, you'll be fine. If you're really concerned about the probably impossible and at the very least extremely improbable event of all of your air bags spontaneously blowing up, disconnect your battery, wait ten minutes, then proceed. Do all things at your own risk! I can only promise that this worked on my car as I've displayed above!
do this would work with toyota matrix 2009?? and are the wires having the same colors in pontiac vibe and toyota matrix?
I don't know for certain. But it probably will work in the 2009 Matrix.
What is the button right next to your switch? I just bought a 2010 Vibe and mine is missing.
Mine is an AWD, that button is to turn off or on the traction control.
"pops right off like everything else"
Many years late. Just inherited a 2009 vibe with only 70,000km. I’ve tested it and it seems the drl don’t come on when just the radio is on so I can go to the drive in without having to do this. Can you confirm yours was the same when just radio is on (drl is off when car not started full)
Honestly I can’t remember, I hit a deer with mine last year and it got totaled. I do seem to remember wanting to do this mod so that I could let the car run at the drive-in theater (for the air conditioning) without my lights being a nuisance.
@@Mega_Mikey that sucks about the deer. It’s a great car, I’m really enjoying mine. If need be I can make this mod, super easy to do. Did you ever install a backup camera? And if so where did you put the cam in the back?
@@CommonSenseAdult yeah it was a great car, I bought it brand new in 09 and it lasted me what 11-12 years without so much as a check engine light coming on. Never got around to the backup camera, but it was on my list 😉
Hey how are you. I have a quick question. Now what if I was to just cut the blue wire and nothing else. What will happen?
It's been a while since I've tinkered with cars, but I'm pretty sure if you just cut the wire you'll disable your daytime running lights, but you will still be able to turn them on and off with the wand on the steering column like a normal car. The point of the extra switch is just to be able to keep your daytime running lights, but be able to turn the lights off at will, say if you're at a drive-in movie or something. I have another video that shows how it works.
In short, if you don't want to bother installing an extra switch you can just cut the wire. But I advise capping off the ends of the wire you cut at least so they're not exposed.
Here's the other video ua-cam.com/video/VSIg4Rqr2HY/v-deo.html
Haha I still have this car too, and it still works.
Ok thanks
Does this disable the automatic headlights too? I hate them both
Yep!
Did you disable the auto headlight sensor too?
No, I left it alone. If you don't put a switch in the dash as I have and just snip the wire, that sensor won't make a difference anyways - the wand on the steering column will be the only control over the lights there is. I like having the switch because I like having daytime running lights sometimes, like if I happen to drive through a tunnel during the day, but being able to turn them off at a drive in-theater if I want the A/C on is the main reason why I did it :)
Omglosser BTW, removing the Blue wire DID work for my 2004, however, I still have to shine a flashlight on the sensor in the dash before starting the car in order to keep the lights off. A little inconvenient, but at least it IS possible to have no lights. I wish I knew what wire was for the sensor itself.
As a FYI, if you pull the e brake and start the car the lights stay off and only come on once e brake is disengaged
🤣 man that would’ve been handy to know way back when I made this video. Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately my Vibe was running strong still at 185k miles when a deer jumped out in front of me and totaled it so I won’t be able to try this myself 😢
That only helps if you only want them off, while parked, once you start the car. Even if you reapply the emergency/parking brake, the DRL don't turn off.
Yeah, I need to have the lights turn off while I am driving the car inside the parking garage at work. I keep blinding my coworkers
Long store short cut wire and Act like nothing happened lol... wouldn't it.been a lot easyer to add a switch to the inner panel of the glove box and just open glove box push button when needed kind if like trunk switch back in day
such a dumb thing to do: Daytime Running Lights make a big difference in reducing car accidents.
Why not just cut your seat-belts out too.
Because when u r driving indoor garage, u want to turn off ur lights so u don’t blind other driver come at yoy
