Easily one of my top 5 favorite channels. And criminally the least subscribed. You do important work sir; I salute and thank you. (as does my Vibe)
thanks for this Fred !
You never said how effective it seemed to be.
Lol, the driver side window/lock control array cover's bottom clip snapped just like mine. Is there a cheap way to fix that?
+OH, HELLO THERE check out genvibe, used half the lid off a juice can and screwed it fast to the bottom of the panel. forums.genvibe.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=36996
Does this make the car quieter on the road? I love my 2009, but it's absolutely unbearable to drive on the freeway, and at certain speeds for some reason. It's like the car itself resonates or something at certain speeds (~25 mph, at 60-65 mph are the worst). It's headache inducing, and riders ALWAYS note that my care is freakishly loud. I want to get a new car because it's so loud. Any ideas?
Have you looked into new tires? Mine was like you describe. After I got some new tires it was really quiet.
I haven’t but I’ve been wondering about that. A tire shop guy said it was unlikely to help so I stopped looking at that. Did you downsize the wheels? I have a gt trim and it has low profiles. I was thinking of getting the base model trim wheels so that I can have more sidewall and also use winter tires easily. What did you end up doing?
There's another similar video that shows marginal reduction of 3-4 decibels at highway speeds and no reduction at lower speeds even with full cabin installation (doors, floor, headliner). The only benefit to looking behind panels and carpeting is to find and mitigate rust.
WHat is that sound deadening material made out of and where did you purchase it?
Where did you purchase your sound damping material??
Also, wouldnt spray on rubberized undercoating accomplish the same job?
Thanks for the info
The other comment is correct, rubber undercoating does very little to help with road noise and speaker vibrations. Having places were encapsulated foam, and sound deadening material could not be applied ie under the car, tight bends, where trim panel clearances are to tight, and crevasses you cant reach, spray on coating adds some benefit. The other benefit of undercoating is preventing rust. Their are other spray on products that work much better especially inside the vehicle.
...whats the white box inside the doors?
+Dean Williams I believe it has something to do with crash rating, provides some sort of impact dampening.
What product did you use to do this?
+Nathan Kenney I used a variety of products. One item that stuck out was the damplifier from Second Skin, it was easy to work with and the glue backing sticks to just about anything.
That subwoofer is hilarious. I really mean no offense but it's like.. it probably sounded better with just the door speakers. "This thing needs some buzz and rattle!!"
undercoating dosen't really help for road noise through the doors/panels, and dosen't help with vibrations from speakers
Good instructional video. Several years ago Scotty Kilmer did the same on his wife's Matrix. I can't remember the company product name but he was impressed enough with the product that he made the video about it. Digging around on his channel for that vid may be a challenge tho...lol
