How to disable 2006 Toyota Matrix DRL

To disable the DRL daytime running light. Locate the running light box on top of the gas and break pedal. Slide it back to remove it. Cut the red/white cable locate to the bottom left of the 2 fat wires. or top right of the 2 fat wires. Depends on how you hold the box. Thats it!

If you read all these comments they will only confuse you. I have a 2005 Matrix and the Toyota OEM wiring manual so what I tell you here comes directly from Toyota. I advise not disturbing the box under the dash. You can disable the DRL by simply grounding a wire attached to a switch on the E-brake handle. The color doesn't matter because there is only one wire so no confusion over color or pin number. The switch is actuated by pulling up on the handle and has two functions. First, it will disable the DRL ONLY if the ignition switch is OFF. Second, it will illuminate a small "BRAKE" light on the dash to tell you to release the E-brake. The switch does this by grounding the attached wire. When the engine is started and the brake released the wire is ungrounded and the DRL are enabled. To permanently disable the DRL simply ground the wire to any convenient piece of metal. This will bypass the switch. The bad news is that the dash brake lamp will be on whenever the ignition switch is on. I'm sure it will eventually burn out. Of course you will need to remove the center console but on my car there were only four hex head bolts. Pretty simple. Much better than crawling under the dash and working with one hand. Good luck.

Mine actually looked a little more pink than red; Cut off pin 12, it's the red cable with the white stripes. On the cable, the white stripe is thinner than the red stripe. It's literally right next to the two big cables. Don't get it confuse with the white and red cable (white cable with thin red stripe)
