IMO the "secret" ending is how things really played out in the real world. In Isaac's warped view of things though, he was acting as we see in the first playthrough. We see in Dead Space Extraction's intro that people under the Marker's influence believe they are behaving one way, but in reality they are much more erratic, aggressive and/or zealous. In Dead Space 2 though, Tiedemann's memory suppressants (as mentioned by Daina) helped in containing the Marker signal in Isaac's head, thus he was now able to discern visions from reality. Still, by the last chapters of the game, my guy was back to treating his hallucinations of Nicole like a real person. Just like he does in the secret ending here.

I really love it when devs use things like collectables to effect the game, it makes it worth the time and effort to find the stuff. Plus, they used the remake to hint the Brethren Moons and better explain how the Marker brainwashed Issac to set-up Dead Space 2
@@crowsenpai5625 I'm not sure this is the true ending. After all Isaac didn't need to go that insane for the DS2 to happen. The Marker blueprint was already in his mind and he was used by other people to build it. No devotion from Isaac needed
What if the first play through is how Isaac thinks it happened and the NG+ is what really happened. I noticed in NG+ that you can listen to the first meeting of Isaac and Nicole from Cross' prospective where she is still sane.
What I think is frightening is the implication that all brethren moons have the same motivation. They can be reasoned with on some level. Which means they could be 100% sentient and therefore makes the ending of dead space awakening even more terrifying.
They are confrimed sentient that purposefully allow some human characters to live and protect if that human is indoctrinated by them and can help further their plans
The awakening ending is a hallucination though by general consensus, people just accept it as fact because Dead Space is a dead franchise right now besides the remake. Hopefully they keep this up
I've just noticed that Nicole's RIG is empty in the alternate ending. Isaac is so crazy that he doesn't even care about seeing his gf as a walking corpse.
Isaac screaming in absolute rage, “Come on then! ‘Cus this is all I’ve got left!” in the face of almost godlike entity will always be one of the hardest moments in gaming
I got different dialog. Idk why. Isaac responded to Kendra saying he wanted to do one thing right and then when Nicole asked him if he missed the Kellion team, she then mentioned his parents.
Yeah! Like what triggers those different lines? I played on medium difficulty and did all side missions in my first playthrough, and got those lines you mention instead of the ones in the video. (also in the ship I don't remember Isaac saying "no turning back" and Nicole responding with something like "Easy when only way is forward" or what it was, that was not what I heard on my first playthrough.)
@@Neon_Neutral94 Yeah side quests do have an impact on dialogue (how Isaac responds when you kill the regenerator if you did the malpractice sidequest before versus not, Meeting Nicole and her sidequest) But also I wonder, I assume the poster filmed these both variations in NG+ maybe? Gotta try a vanilla NG+ no marker run and see if it's the same lines as before on a first time playthrough save (doing all side quests) or if they are new ones?
I mean, instead of living the hell another 2 times without anything left from your friends and then find out that earth is gonna die anyway, I think that the ending where he gets insane is the best for him. At least now he it has a purpose and he has his wife too.
I love the difference in endings. Not just with the additional dialogue, but with the way the ship changes as well. In NG, the ship in the ending is clean. But in NG+ ending, everything but the seat Isaac is sitting in is covered in the Marker's language, and I love that subtle change. It's a "blink, and you'll miss it" difference. And, from using an old DS2 strategy guide that has the Marker alphabet in it, I can make out "Altman" on the back rest of the seat, and "In Eternal..." Along the side of the seat. There is something after the word Eternal, but I can't make it out.
The only thing I found different aside from the different dialogue is that in mining when your supposed to protect Nicole. If you go over to her side you'll find a screen that you can get an audio log of your conversation, only its cross saying that Issac must really be out of it and says she found clearance from another engineer. It's only in NG+. Now that this alternate ending is kinda cannon, depending if they choose to in the sequel, it'll make a bit more sense when they say Issac built the marker.
I’ve heard another theory that both endings are canon in that NG+ is Isaac retelling the events but his memories were altered by the marker, explaining why he and Nicole act differently but everyone else acts the same. Personally, I like this theory but I can’t put my finger on why…
yeah, Isaac's lines will differ based on two things: whether or not you have all the marker's fragments, and whether or not you did Nicole's side quest, and maybe the Harris' side quest. So yeah three versions: sane without side quest done, sane with side quest done and insane
I love how south the story of the game goes. It goes from "Something happened on this station and we lost contact" To "This Station is infested with some sort of alien species" To "THIS STATION IS HOME TO A CULT!!"
Woah so alternate ending he succumbs to the madness of the marker. Now I'm assuming he's gonna build one. I forget did Isaac build a marker in the previous 2/3, behind the scenes of the story? Hence why unitology is after him? Or was that cuz he destroyed a marker?
There's a bit of a disconnect, now that this version of the game is out. In the original game, Issac's reasoning is that he's actually seeing Nicole, and it's only at the end of the game where Kendra points out she's been dead, that you deduce he was affected by the Marker signal. Even after he's told, we can see he's still determined to escape and kill the Hive Mind, not to mention he makes no attempt at saving the Aegis 7 Marker from being destroyed. In DS 2, it's not just Isaac that's being used to build the Marker on Titan Station, but Nolan Stross as well, the surviving scientist from the USG O'Bannon. Keywords here are "being used". Both Isaac and Stross are drugged usually during their sessions, when the needle machine is being used to extract the Marker blueprints from their memories. After they escape, neither seems to harbor any particular affinity towards the Marker. Stross, while driven insane and barely able to function (unlike Isaac), is more preoccupied with the ghosts of his family (who he murdered, being made to believe they were necromorphs, by the Marker shard he had come in contact with). And Isaac just flat out wants to destroy it. And by DS 3, he's had it with Unitology and the Markers and hates them both with a passion. So this alternate ending makes little sense to me, unless the Studio plans on continuing the remakes into DS 2 and DS 3, with this alternate story where he's just trying to find the source of the Marker signal in order to carry out its will of making it whole. I'd be bummed about it, ngl, as one of DSs main points was that this ordinary person, faced with the will-power of a race of hungry, planet-sized monsters, sticks to his guns (figuratively and literally), and does everything he can to thwart their plan. Given how capable he turns out to be, I wouldn't like a storyline where he's an OP agent of the moons, trying to enact their will.....
I think the alt ending is just a fun Easter egg and not canon. More like a "what if" scenario and just extra stuff added in for one or more playthroughs as an additional challenge. No more or less.
@@TheCoffeeBird Hope you're right. I know it sounds dumb, but Isaac's journey meant a lot to me, those games came out when I was going through a bad spot in life and kind of cemented my idea of what kind of character he was. Not that I don't appreciate the inclusion of the Easter Eggs, and more importantly, the attention the game has been getting. I'm still sour about EAs abysmal handling of something with such potential, and the story being left hanging like a 70s B-Movie after the Credits, but I guess by this point, EA wouldn't be playing their own character right if they actually managed to do justice to a great idea....
@@vtr0104 don’t worry, the ending is likely an Easter egg done for fun, since it requires you to find the marker shards and such, so it’s likely it won’t ruin the story lore. If they did go that route, I wouldn’t blame you for being disappointed, I would too. But if they did remake the two sequels, they should be able to have Easter egg ending like this one, maybe even continue it as a “what if” wonder how it’ll turn out. But not ruin the story by making it canon, just a fun crazy isaac story.
Alternate ending with Isaac completely under the Markers control. Is much scarier than a normal jumpscare. Its unsettling knowing the Hero has turned into the Villan who wants to keep the marker alive on earth
This would be an interesting retelling on the “relationship” between Isaac and the Marker (Brother Moon / Marker Nicole). In the original, the Marker has been trying to kill/absorb him. Forcing nightmare hallucinations and necromorphs. Not fully talking to him. Only to torment him so he submits or kills him to be part of the collective hive mind resources. In this take, I can picture it as a devil trying to tempt Isaac into making other Markers to spread Convergence. Giving the idea that others besides Issac will end up swayed by the Marker. Specifically, those who seek some form of purpose. Or to find some way to see the one they love/loss. Even if it's not really them. Just ideas if ever considered. Thanks to anyone who reads this.
@HelpMeLeon Thanks! Even though the original narrative was a good horror story. I would like to see the development between Issac and the main antagonist (Marker Nicole/Brother Moon). Making this more personal. Not just dealing with horror but also isolating him between humans and the necromorphs. Trying to prey on his mind/soul whenever they're alone. Creating character development in the horror franchise. I wouldn’t be surprised at points the Marker (Nicole) would laugh at Isaacs's dismay. Specifically when humans are trying to kill him more than to help him. Plus at times humans stab him in the back, either for their gains or orders given to them. Giving the Marker (Nicole) a situation to interact with Isaac instead of just killing him. As most life forms were absorbed or killed. Leading an opportunity for the antagonist to not feel bored. Saving one life form like Issac in a way to keep it entertained. As he survived some of their deadliest creations. Plus, who's to say it gets boring doing the same thing over again? However, these are ideas if left considered. Thanks to anyone who reads this.
I don’t want to be that guy, but it seems to me like this marker in particular…actually _loved_ Isaac. In a sick, twisted sort of way. It made him strong enough to reach it by sending legions of Necromorphs its way. It gave him a few last hours with Nicole so he could say his peace and then fulfill his purpose. And finally, when it had gotten what it wanted of him, it _rewarded_ him by making Nicole’s vision permanent, so they’d never be apart again. One body. One Mind. I think you can figure out the rest.
Kinda wish for the sane issac ending was the og ghoat jumpscare and not whatever that was. Either way whichever ending we chose I'd say issac would have built a marker either way for dead space 2 since in 2 nicoles ghosts just haunts him with the marker blueprints as he resisted while for psycho issac he basically just took step 3: acceptance
"The Marker saw who they really were. It will remember them," is an interesting idea, implying the Bretheren Moons really are a superconsciousness that does somehow catalog consciousnesses and unites them. So it's possible the promises made to Unitologists are true... if being part of a collective consciousness sounds like heaven to you, anyway.
"Implying the Brethren Moons really are a superconsciousness." There's no implying. The lore of the series explicitly states that the Brethren Moons are exactly that.
The necromorphs to begin with are supposed to be a reaction to an inherent signal in everyone’s bodies, since everyone is destined to be food for the Moons, so the marker would be “seeing who they really were” by awakening them.
Honestly I kinda hope they keep this trend if they remake 2. Maybe have two parallel timelines going at once. One where we have normal Issac and the other where we have insane issac Sidenote when I did the hidden ending I had on the tank suit. Very fitting hahaha
Such subtle changes that show how insane Isaac went aboard the ishimura. In the original game, it seems to nearly have no effect on him. But in the remake, I love these subtle details that show Isaac is insane, and really believes he’s some “chosen one”.
You know the most terrifying thing about this is that either of these endings can be considered canon. Only Isaac knows what really happened in the Ishimura, and it's scary to think that the Hive Mind didn't want Isaac to expand the Marker's influence throughout the galaxy. And the allusion into the sequel is what makes the Reunion ending so scary. Fantastic game.
Dude I love that they did this, you could have just given us the remake and been done but you went and hid a whole ass extra dialogue tree for the main character and his addling mania. Please as a long time fan of dead space and it’s franchise, please redo the others. Even DS3, show Visceral the love it deserved, it’s a damn shame the company couldn’t be sustained.
When I play to the part where daniels escapes by pod isaac doesn't say "Someone's gotta pay for this." He says "I know exactly what I'm doing. I'm finally doing the smart thing!"
The way i think about this is that the Isaac was already affected by the Marker. That’s why when you collect all the fragments in NG+ they tell you “You’ll see like we see you”. and how (⚠️SPOILER ALERT NOW) when you finally get the alternate ending you see all the writing everywhere on the USG-09. We’re seeing what Isaac is actually doing instead of what Isaac THINKS is happening, we’re seeing what the hallucinations are causing him to do.
Weird, when moving the marker on the convoy planetside, Isaac talked about not wanting understand that drove his mother to madness, instead of Nicole talking about people dying and coming back.
Fun idea. Dead space 2 Remake give you the choice depending on the save to continue where Dead Space remake left off. Finish normally. We continue with the same story as before...Choose Zealot Isaac...and we get something new...and worse...and far far more terrible.
I like where this might go. Here's hoping the Dev Team will go with this idea in some form or another. If they haven't thought of it yet... make them see. Nicely of course.
Make the secret ending the actual convergence event turning into new brethren moon. We kind of get glimpses of it in the original DS2 before it got blown up.
You actually missed one. In the loading area where you have to "escort" the marker mainly by raising the bridges, he says something special when you have all 12 marker fragments placed.
There’s also one in the area where you first meet Nicole if you go over to where she was you hear what actually happened Issac talks to cross as if she is Nicole and you can hear her dialogue however this could just be new game plus exclusive
I can't remember which peace of DS media it came from but I remember them talking about finding Isaac and how he had drawn symbols all over the pod and was muttering to himself. I love how the marker fragment ending is beat for beat this which implies that this is his crazy side showing that was hinted at in DS2, like he almost develops a split personality disorder and can't remember which is true.
Graphics and design have come so far over the last 10 years. You can SEE the insanity in his eyes in that final scene. It's something unsettling in the smile mixed with the reflections in the eyes not being quite right and it just sets your hairs on end.
"Gotta build a little something first" - While grinning like a maniac. I have the feeling that this is what really happened and lead to the events in Dead Space 2.
Nicole: "Do you miss them, Isaac?" Isaac: "The Kellion team? Yeah." Nicole: "They think they're dead. What do you think?" Isaac: "The Marker saw who they really were. It'll remember them." These lines spooked me the first time I heard them in my second playthrough. Something about how the Markers like to mimic the dead fills me with existential dread.
One fragment...I was one fragment away from making it whole and I missed it! But maybe it's for the best, I feel that once it's made whole Issac unintentional decent into villainy becomes complete. If a sequel is ever released, I will be curious to know if save imports will be possible.
Imagine if dead space 2 and 3 got some remakes done, and it let's you continue the story of seeing Isaac drift further into the markers' influence would be pretty interesting to see
A little note, but did anyone else notice in the insane ending, that's the first time in the series I think that we've gotten a quick cut to another camera angle? The entire series as far as I know has been always done in a one seamless shot kind of style.
Honestly hope this is their way of rebooting Dead Space, would be cool seeing the world explored even further with extra side missions and new dialogue with each game. Here's hoping they don't scrap 3's Multiplayer once they get to it, had a lot of fond memories with it.

Mmmm no. They build the Marker because the blueprints are in issac's mind. Issac never actually draws out the plans to build a maker

Isaac's voice actor screaming is legit the most brutal screams ever, the melee sounds too are so real sounding, really living the character
Have you noticed how if you keep spamming melee Isaac will blurt out cursewords?
I can't wait for the DS2 remake where Gunner Wright is tortured in front of a mic
For about half my playthrough I thought enemies were nearby because Isaac's voice actor was screaming at 110% intensity while breaking open a crate....
he did such a wonderful job of making the screams legitamately viceral, like the wavering in the "you cant stop me"

I really love it when devs use things like collectables to effect the game, it makes it worth the time and effort to find the stuff. Plus, they used the remake to hint the Brethren Moons and better explain how the Marker brainwashed Issac to set-up Dead Space 2
The rare moment when finding all the collectables unlocks the bad end instead.
The rare moment when the Bad End is the True End
@crowsenpai5625 I agree, before DS2 they find him floating in aegis VII's orbit and it makes sense he would've been absolutely insane at that point
@@crowsenpai5625
I'm not sure this is the true ending. After all Isaac didn't need to go that insane for the DS2 to happen. The Marker blueprint was already in his mind and he was used by other people to build it. No devotion from Isaac needed
The Dead Space remake showed us what AAA standards for games used to be
Yeah comparing it to The Last of Us remake or 'cough cough' rebuilt.. If they manage to remake Dead Space 2 the same way, its gonna be legendary
"IT SHOWED US WHAT WE HAVE TO DO! THEY CAN'T STOP US!"
It sure did
What if the first play through is how Isaac thinks it happened and the NG+ is what really happened. I noticed in NG+ that you can listen to the first meeting of Isaac and Nicole from Cross' prospective where she is still sane.
Now that’s headcanon I accept
I agree. I also believe that the normal ending happens first and the secret ending is actually a continuation of it.
I thought it was already shown they were sentient? I’m pretty sure each moon is connected akin to a hive mind.
They are sentient. I thought that was made perfectly clear.
It was pretty obvious the Brethren Moons were sentient when started they started talking to Isaac.
@@nathane5287 I think sidequests might affect it. I did all of them. It’s hard to tell though cuz we don’t know what the poster did
@@Neon_Neutral94 Yeah side quests do have an impact on dialogue (how Isaac responds when you kill the regenerator if you did the malpractice sidequest before versus not, Meeting Nicole and her sidequest) But also I wonder, I assume the poster filmed these both variations in NG+ maybe? Gotta try a vanilla NG+ no marker run and see if it's the same lines as before on a first time playthrough save (doing all side quests) or if they are new ones?
I got that one too
I think it depends on the audio and video files you find.
I love, love! How the illusion of Nicole sounds more natural and human when Issac is corrupted.
3:19 quite possibly the most jawing line in the game, truly painting the reality of their unreality because of the Marker’s influence on their minds

There is something after the word Eternal, but I can't make it out.
kendra being recalled on a normal run: bruh i just left
kendra being recalled on a secret ending run: *genuine concern in what isaac said*
One has severe ptsd and survivor's guilt. One is actually batshit insane.
I stumbled across this screen in NG+ and was like ‘how did I miss this’ but your comment perfectly explains
I swear I remember when in the ship with Nicole, she would ask Isaac if hes scared and then Isaac would say "No, with you I can do anything."
He's got 3 different lines there
yeah, Isaac's lines will differ based on two things: whether or not you have all the marker's fragments, and whether or not you did Nicole's side quest, and maybe the Harris' side quest. So yeah three versions: sane without side quest done, sane with side quest done and insane
I love how south the story of the game goes. It goes from "Something happened on this station and we lost contact" To "This Station is infested with some sort of alien species" To "THIS STATION IS HOME TO A CULT!!"
You miss one:
When you protect the marker: Still in one Piece
When you protect the marker in NG+:Good. The Marker's okay. It's..whole
Both reasons are why the Unitologist zealots are pursuing him.
I like to imagine the ng is what Isaac thought he was saying and the ng+ run is what he was actually doing
AWESOME!! I love it!!
@HelpMeLeon
Thanks!
It wasn't just a graphics overhaul, they added to and tweaked the story here n there.
THEY MADE IT WHOLE.
That "You can't stop me!" gave me vibes of "You can't scape me![I'll chase you to the ends OF THE EAAAAARTH!!]"
Honestly I kinda hope they keep this trend if they remake 2. Maybe have two parallel timelines going at once. One where we have normal Issac and the other where we have insane issac
Sidenote when I did the hidden ending I had on the tank suit. Very fitting hahaha
Such subtle changes that show how insane Isaac went aboard the ishimura. In the original game, it seems to nearly have no effect on him. But in the remake, I love these subtle details that show Isaac is insane, and really believes he’s some “chosen one”.
Considering what he does in DS2, it's nice to see that Isaac understands deeply the Marker
During my first play through the part where you recall the shuttle Isaac said “ I know I’m doing the smart/ right thing.”
great and professional comparison unlike other videos on yt, well done
Thank!!
With the brightness up i can see just how much Issac scribbled on the ship
You know the most terrifying thing about this is that either of these endings can be considered canon. Only Isaac knows what really happened in the Ishimura, and it's scary to think that the Hive Mind didn't want Isaac to expand the Marker's influence throughout the galaxy. And the allusion into the sequel is what makes the Reunion ending so scary. Fantastic game.
"You can't stop me" gives me some serious Spiderman 90's cartoon, symbiote Spiderman chasing Shocker vibes, not gonna lie.
I love how in the all marker collected ship scene at the end you can see isacs helmet on the ground because he 'lost his head'
It’s pretty cool how you get an alternate ending for doing the secret. Feels like a reward for all the effort it took
Mark my words, Isaac's deranged smile at the end is somebody's profile icon.
When I play to the part where daniels escapes by pod isaac doesn't say "Someone's gotta pay for this." He says "I know exactly what I'm doing. I'm finally doing the smart thing!"
It showed me what I have to do, YOU CANT STOP ME!
I like how this in a way ties in to why dead space 2 earth gov really doesn't want isaac to remember, like it gives a whole new meaning
If the hivemind eats you with all 12 fragments placed, Isaac should have screamed "Make Us Whole!"
I like how the hidden new game plus ending is essentially the bad ending. Usually it's the other way around.
Play Drakengard. Earn progressively worse endings.
There is also different dialogue whether you complete the side quests or not that’s why this is a 10/10 remake so much thought put into it
0:13 that whole line sends shivers down my spine
Isaac: YOU CAN NOT STOP ME!!!
The Hivemind: Oh shit I'm sorry, have a nice day..
That was the best comparison i have ever seen. Thank you
Wow, thanks!
There's actually a third dialogue when the quarantine lifted they talked about Issac's mother and their mistakes.
the alternative version kinda makes it look like the necromorphs are trying to stop Issac from doing something bad lol
This is genuinely fucking incredible of them. I'm so impressed.
Weird, when moving the marker on the convoy planetside, Isaac talked about not wanting understand that drove his mother to madness, instead of Nicole talking about people dying and coming back.
the people affected by the marker make it sound really appealing

I like where this might go. Here's hoping the Dev Team will go with this idea in some form or another. If they haven't thought of it yet... make them see. Nicely of course.

We kind of get glimpses of it in the original DS2 before it got blown up.
This is your brain.
This is your brain after huffing Marker.

When Isaac said he missed the kellion team that made me a bit sad
So total exposure to the marker made him a complete subordinate to it and later on Dead Space 2, he would discover it wasn't really his true will

This new ending after the first one is frickin crazy, just like Issac after the first too!
The Marker script scrawled all of the ships walls in the marker ending is a nice touch
Isaac Clark: It showed me what I have to do…. YOU CAN’T STOP ME!!!
lesson learned: don't be a completionist, it will make u get a wierdly bad ending
The new ending of NG+ would lead into DS2 so well.
I just realized that line mark on his forehead is from his helmet because he got thrown around a lot.
I had a theory, what if a regular play through is how isaac remembers the events of DS1, while new game+ is how it actually happened?
Nicole: "Do you miss them, Isaac?"
Isaac: "The Kellion team? Yeah."
Nicole: "They think they're dead. What do you think?"
Isaac: "The Marker saw who they really were. It'll remember them."
These lines spooked me the first time I heard them in my second playthrough.
Imagine if dead space 2 and 3 got some remakes done, and it let's you continue the story of seeing Isaac drift further into the markers' influence would be pretty interesting to see
I thing that is pretty much their intention.
This game hints at Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 3 like *crazy.*
That "You can't stop ME!" reminded me of that cartoon of Spiderman screaming "You can't escape me Shocker!"
I just finished my first playthrough, now I learn that somethings are gonna be different my second time around.
