Yeah, his passion really shows. I only got into Dead Space around 5 years ago, but it holds up remarkably well, and though Dead Space 2 was in some ways the better game for being more polished, I found the first more atmospheric and scary because it's so clear that Isaac isn't a trained combatant.

I've read somewhere that they had to look at pics of car crash victims to make realistic gore. I'm pretty sure that the dev team had at least one or two low key psychopaths among them haha
I'll never forget a moment in Deadspace when I was in the vacuum of space - I thought I was safe - it was quiet because no noise in space - then I turned around and saw a necromorph pacing towards me - made me jump out of my skin. Then every time I was in the vacuum I felt exposed and vulnerable, constantly looking around me because I knew I wouldn't be able to hear them coming! - amazing sound design
That exact experience is what I had happen as well. I was so relaxed for some naive moment in the vacuum and turned around right in the knick of time before it was about to collide with me. I audibly yelled and jumped. Amazing how much loud scary sound terrifies you so much that it's almost scarier when you lose it for a second and hear nothingness. Probably what made the movie "A Quiet Place" so terrifying.
I had a pretty scary moment when I had cleared a room, was surfing through my inventory and then a necromporph respawned outside my field of view and hacked at me and impaled me from behind. I just froze in terror. The game broke serious rules. And I loved it for that.

@@Cybershock180 sadly, no one from Visceral Games will be working on the remake. But everyone at Motive are fans of the series so they said they will honor the original. Plus, majority of Visceral are working on Calisto Protocol.
Having played through both the Callisto Protocol and Dead Space remake recently, it's crazy how these 2 games were directed by the same person. Callisto felt like an empty shell of a copy that doesn't understand the source material at all. It had good graphics and decent atmosphere but also the worst combat system i have ever seen in a game which ruined all immersion and tension. The Dead Space remake wasn't even made by the same people yet they clearly understand what made the original Dead Space great and improved upon every single aspect. It's a shame the person who originally came up with many of these ideas is so out of touch now.
In my opinion is the proof that a game isn't made just by one talented person or not even many talented people fullstop, but you have to have many talented people with great chemistry that are able to complement one another to make a great game
I would say game development isn't Hollywood: a studio leader can't put together the same team after the studio breaks up because everybody is not still living in Canoga Park and ready to go. It's disbursed enough and causes enough burn out that people have to move on and you can't get them back. So there's no pretending a director is an author.
I don't feel like its fair to equate the result of a game with the ability of one person. Games are built on the backs of teams, and studios, and publishers, and in amongst all those bodies, a lot of things can go wrong Its easy to want to point the finger to one spot and have that have all the answers. But game development ain't easy. And so we gotta be considering the reasons for why one doesn’t turn out great isn't also
You know, other developers would have said: "Let's remove the tentacle moment so we don't have to deal with it" while this guys were like: "We have to re structure the way we work, we have to make a lot of new animations, develop a tracking IA and re make the combat system just for this one 30 seconds long moment...let's do it!". This says a lot about the talent that was in Visceral Games.

@@blackred1032 actually most people are getting fed up with unfinished half baked products, bad multiplayer attempts and paywalls (anthem, fallout 76, Destiny and MANY more). The thing that makes single player games good is the depth. Immersion. Playing a game and feeling like you're a part of that world. Good singleplayers can do that. Multiplayers often just seem to revolve around "who's better". Social constructs is what keeps most people playing multiplayer; it's almost like hanging around with friends. The activity might be boring, but friends are not. Destiny in my opinion is absolute garbage. No depth, most of the story is hidden in lore; it's just lazy. Repetitive quests, no originality.. Oh and RDR2. Do you think that everyone who has that game plays multiplayer? Because they dont. EVERYONE played the story, only 10 to 15% play RDR2 online, and often not on a regular basis.
@@DutchDouchebag I prefer multiplayer games that have at least a competitive aspect to them. I enjoy the competition, that's what I enjoy about them. On the other hand, i don't enjoy single player games all too often. My enjoyment of a single player game comes from me being the main character in the story, not the story revolving around a pre developed main character. That's why I like single player games more akin to Skyrim, where you develop your character, rather than games like uncharted, where the character has a backstory. I might be in the minority with that, but it's just what I enjoy. Overall, multiplayer games like Halo, Titanfall, and for me Destiny's PvP (although it needs alot of work), are where I feel most at home. Just thought I'd give some thoughts from a person who mainly plays multiplayer games.
I miss when game developers wanted their players to actually enjoy their games rather than wanting them to become addicted and to give them all their money via loot box rng

Effective use of discord to evoke a deep sense of unease. Screeches, loud noises that make you mutter quietly under your breath "be quiet, stop making noise, they will hear you!" And Mr X had one stomp sound. I thought the game was broken. Even after patching it. But no the music was non existent, until end level and boss. The original RE2 soundtrack was made dlc, not optional with purchase of the game. And lots of gear made inaccessible.
Games are built on the backs of teams, and studios, and publishers, and in amongst all those bodies, a lot of things can go wrong
Its easy to want to point the finger to one spot and have that have all the answers.
Dead space was iconic.

2008 was the last hurrah for EA. Their CEO had committed the company to the creation of new and innovative IP and they delivered in spades. Both Dead Space and Mirror's Edge were released that fall and both games were groundbreaking achievements in single player narratives, superb visuals, audio and gameplay. To this day they feel like games from the future. RIP Visceral.

funny thing is they're delaying their games and when those games releases they're buggy and unfinished(i mean c'mon its obvious im talking about cyberpunk)
@@joshuakhaos4451 I don't think you're really a minority here but I do disagree with you. What's happened is that guys like these don't make up the bulk of AAA teams anymore. Sure there's still some of them but most of them are after maximizing profits, their careers, etc. A team that has even some of those people is going to get dragged down some.
The major companies are also just about all completely creatively bankrupt. They lost their best creative leads along the way and now they just have bland corporate ones. I mean just look at Ubisoft. Then again, some newer game studios really break ahead of the pack some times. The difference is that you don't hear about them as much because they don't have the advertisement and popularity of the long standing powerhouses of gaming.
