Then you have like Soren's plot, Kwan's plot, Chief's undercover plot, Chief's PTSD plot I guess? The Rizz physical therapy plot, Halsey in VR talking to Flash clones plot. Then the Forerunner artifact's and their importance thrown in, and of course the Spartan 3's later. Like Christ I get its more for a broader audience, but SURELY we could have focused on like 2 MAYBE 3 stories. There's just so much stuff nobody cares about ):
Absolutely. While writing the quick summary of episode 2 I was struggling to word it all properly because of how much it jumps around to different plot threads. I know they're all going to come together at the end, but it's a lot to keep track of. Soren's story easily could've wrapped up after he was trapped in episode 1. I don't think we really needed all that stuff with his wife after the fact. It led absolutely nowhere.
The series cannot be salvaged, or they would need to just ignore the first season. Spartans aren't emotionless killing machines, Halsey isn't a sociopathic mad scientist, and Halo isn't about human vs human conflict. Halo is about humanity trying to survive a war with no hope, exploration of strange ruins and the Covenant's faith shaking. (Also Forerunners were humans) EDIT: I see a lot of errors in the responses. 343I changed the lore when they took over, ignoring the original games and books. If you play HCE-2-3 and read Contact Harvest or Ghosts of Onyx, there's a lot of hints that the Forerunners were humans, which is confirmed at the end of Halo 3 by 343 Guilty Spark. That's the big twist, the Prophets ordered the extermination of their own "gods" in order to protect the lie of their religion and save their place at the top. If you read Operation First Strike or Ghosts of Onyx, you would see that Halsey was never a sociopath, she appears cold outside but deep down she's actually quite empathic, which made her character very interesting. Spartans weren't emotionless either. It's 343I who didn't understand that and rewrote Halsey as a shallow mad scientist and Spartans as emotionless killing machines.

I thought the opening episodes were pretty good, the action was great, the characterisation of the Spartans was perfect, but the side characters were pretty boring. Tonally it’s far better than S1. Glad they got rid of those emotional inhibitor nonsense. The marketing department has done an amazing job convincing people that it’s going to be completely different to S1, it’s very much a continuation of that. It’s better, but it’s not exactly reinvented.

I don't hate it.......but I'm still severely disappointed. Watching all this all I can think of is " wow that was better in the Fall or Reach. Nope, Bungie's Reach did that better." I'm all for good dialogue and characters conversing, but my lord everything said in this show feels sloppy, cringe, or just off somehow.
I did like some of the details such as "I'm blue" which is an actual military term utilized for friendly fire (typically called Green vs Blue) however there was ALOT that I didn't like. The first two that come to mind would be: 1. The chief saying "they disappeared" instead of mentioning any type of cloaking tech or anything else. 2. Chief getting tired after a light engagement with a few swords. The Master Chief is a super soldier designed to not be fatigued. He only got fatigued after fighting through the flood in the library. overall, the show is moving swiftly, but I'd perfer to skip kwan, and... well... the majority of the show if I can keep getting episodes focused on the main plot. And the show seems to be better when you turn your brain off.

Pay for the Halo name, miss-lead fans of the brand, loosely use the lore but change everything about it, fumble the fighting skills of the main character, fumble the main character of the brand, create a lot of negativity with the show, blame the fanbase, get views from negativity, switch Master Chief for Master Cheeks. They could have just used the existing lore and made a ton of money and views. Would've taken a fraction of the work and built a huge fanbase around it; instead they are sending the views to the UA-cam channels to point out how this is anything BUT Halo.

I'm disappointed with the b plot stuff and the return of Makee, but the introduction of Ackerson and the clear path towards the fall of Reach already makes it far more interesting. Chief hasn't yet been a reckless emotional moron, as he was for the vast majority of season 1. Still pretty mid but mid is lightyears better than anything season 1 had to offer.

I'm not surprised that Makee and Kwan was still her here, the developers made it clear that they are going to continue here. our hope is that either made they make their characters or story arc better over time or they relegate them to more of a B plot that can be quickly resolved sooner than later. The Soft reboot was more in regards that they said you don't actually need to watch Season 1 to get into Season 2 so far I agree, if I didn't see season 1 and just look at 2 only with 1's baggage, I can look at Kwan story as a B plot that deals with the civilian population outlooks of hte war and with Makee as just a mysterious human figure that so far doesn't reveal anything right now
From what writing advice I learned, if a story doesn't hook your audience right from the get-go or close to it, I think that story has already failed on multiple levels.
I just don't see how yet another "Booo ONI bad, they don't understand Master Chief" plot was considered the right way to go with ffs. Why put useless internal strife instead of building this mythos of THE Chief, the symbol of hope for humanity etc. ?

It really doesn’t matter how good the second season is. The first season was so bad to the point where there is no possibility for recovery. It’s like getting a second season of Velma. It will always be attached to the first pile of infectious shit.

I don't hate it.......but I'm still severely disappointed. Watching all this all I can think of is " wow that was better in the Fall or Reach. Nope, Bungie's Reach did that better."
I'm all for good dialogue and characters conversing, but my lord everything said in this show feels sloppy, cringe, or just off somehow.
I did like some of the details such as "I'm blue" which is an actual military term utilized for friendly fire (typically called Green vs Blue)
however there was ALOT that I didn't like. The first two that come to mind would be:
1. The chief saying "they disappeared" instead of mentioning any type of cloaking tech or anything else.
2. Chief getting tired after a light engagement with a few swords. The Master Chief is a super soldier designed to not be fatigued. He only got fatigued after fighting through the flood in the library.
overall, the show is moving swiftly, but I'd perfer to skip kwan, and... well... the majority of the show if I can keep getting episodes focused on the main plot. And the show seems to be better when you turn your brain off.
probably aren't getting a season 3 if these two episodes are anything to base the rest of the season of off.

If makee is in it. Im not watchng it and probably swearing off halo forever. Whole franchise is basically warping what halo used to be anymore. Now they completely defile the original story, expose it to those who have never played the games, and justify it by saying ita a different timeline. The whole purpose of adapting something into a tv show is to expose a story chereshed by a large group of fans to wider audience. Im just done with being sad and angry over what they did to the series i used to love.
Pay for the Halo name, miss-lead fans of the brand, loosely use the lore but change everything about it, fumble the fighting skills of the main character, fumble the main character of the brand, create a lot of negativity with the show, blame the fanbase, get views from negativity, switch Master Chief for Master Cheeks.
They could have just used the existing lore and made a ton of money and views. Would've taken a fraction of the work and built a huge fanbase around it; instead they are sending the views to the UA-cam channels to point out how this is anything BUT Halo.

I don't agree at all that it is more of the same. I'm disappointed with the b plot stuff and the return of Makee, but the introduction of Ackerson and the clear path towards the fall of Reach already makes it far more interesting. Chief hasn't yet been a reckless emotional moron, as he was for the vast majority of season 1. Still pretty mid but mid is lightyears better than anything season 1 had to offer.
Yeah it was pretty bad. Continuation of Series 1. Plot is all over the place. Half formed characters and stories. Also new cortana didn't give me any cortana vibes. Its just not her even in the way she is written. Other one was better

I'm not surprised that Makee and Kwan was still her here, the developers made it clear that they are going to continue here. our hope is that either made they make their characters or story arc better over time or they relegate them to more of a B plot that can be quickly resolved sooner than later. The Soft reboot was more in regards that they said you don't actually need to watch Season 1 to get into Season 2 so far I agree, if I didn't see season 1 and just look at 2 only with 1's baggage, I can look at Kwan story as a B plot that deals with the civilian population outlooks of hte war and with Makee as just a mysterious human figure that so far doesn't reveal anything right now
From what writing advice I learned, if a story doesn't hook your audience right from the get-go or close to it, I think that story has already failed on multiple levels.

I just don't see how yet another "Booo ONI bad, they don't understand Master Chief" plot was considered the right way to go with ffs. Why put useless internal strife instead of building this mythos of THE Chief, the symbol of hope for humanity etc. ?
I think a better representation of chief is whats most needed.
I mean ONI are just jerks, since inception, so I guess by the fact CGI is costly, thats probably what they had to use to make a story without blowing all the money in 2 episodes.

This series was so underwhelming and against the source material. That I had no idea it even had a season 2 or was released. Nor did any of my halo friends. Seems we did not miss anything.
I lost it after mastercheeks sat down with some randos for a dinner, ONI are dogshit in this show, cheeks is still a cry baby, ackerson is interesting, vanik is the only decent Spartan in this show although that cobalt team in the bathroom was cool, the only good thing from both episodes was the Spartan board with the different teams, man I was hoping we would see noble team but atleast we saw omega, sigma and cobalt
Also I skipped every Kwan scene
