Whole episode: they are Spartans regardless of their armor
Vannak: dies because he’s not in his armor
Needle right in the heart lol
These aren’t mutually exclusive. They are far, far tougher than regular Marines, who had at least *some* armor on. But a needler to the heart is going to take out just about anyone
"Ignores the rest of the episode where Spartans without armor are killing Covenant and surviving events that kill every other marine."
dude should've been fast enough to remove it. spartans have insane reaction time, it's why they're very compatible with ai
I'm ok with vannak dying as LONG AS THEY TAKE HIS BODY IN A CRYO
@@TJVBernal It wouldn't have mattered if he removed it. Look where it stabbed him. Right in the heart. Dude was dead regardless
i think its ok for spartants to not show recoil...but regular Marines should show recoil.
the gun still kicks chief shouldnt feel it but it would be noticeable in halo infinites opening scene he has recoil there
@@Freedom_officerI was just play it last night and yes. Definitely recoils.
Yea the recoil was bad, but why is no one commenting on the fact that every rifle in the episode was fully automatic
@@AADAAVEEYY did you know some brs can go full auto?
How? Marines are able to flip a scorpion in the games and slap the shields of an Elite away. They are strong AF
Too bad that Keyes sacrifices himself instead of going with Chief to Installation 04 just to suffer by the Flood like in Combat Evolved.
I'd rather die by the covenant instead of the flood to be honest
Anyone with a brain would. Dying in battle against a conventional enemy is always going to be better than becoming a puppet to a parasite, locked in your own body while the flood takes control of your mind slowly and insidiously and you become a twisted version of yourself. Keyes resisted far longer than most ever could.@@codylowe1683
Actor really wanted off the show probably 😂
I'd say Kai saved him. He didn't die on screen.
@@Roniboney what??
Thank god Perez is the most adaptable corporal in the UNSC, she can do anything. Combat tech to proficiency in translating Sangheili to able to fly a random civilian transport.
She really is a jack of all trades, for a comms officer. Understandably, marines go through a lot of training, some that would be voluntary. But there comes a point where it does start to seem implausible for them to know everything.
@@LaperLarden I just want to know how she was able to translate Sangheili when last season Keyes was struggling with it. Just dumb ass writing
I don't think it was a translation. But maybe during that bravo team fight the comms injected a signal into her brain unintentionally
@@danielpickrell8311 do you write for the show as now im gunna be expecting that reveal
@@TheOnlyBritishGuy lol I'm just making an educated guess bro
I'm starting to think the only point of the show is to lower the standard of storytelling for the series so much that we learn to appreciate halo 5's story more.
Another reason why the Mjolnir Armor is important to every Spartan.
Another reason why ackerson took the armor away
Them killing off Keyes so early says to me that the Flood aren't even going to be in the show. I hope I am wrong.
Most likely it'll be Miranda who takes control of the Autumn and dies by the flood but who honestly knows (or cares)
@BaggyFTJ then who'd receive her father's medals? Or do some stupid shit and make a poor attempt to save/kill Johnson?
@@rockbottomgaming465 Her twin sister Moronda
I think they will be, but not in Season 2. I don't think they will be introduced in the next season either. From a TV show stand point, I don't think introducing too much complication into the story early is a good idea. Game of Throne didn't introduce the threat of the White Walkers really really late.
they didnt show his death in a clear way, so he's probably alive, its the oldest movie trick
The main issue with these character deaths isn't "oh no, I liked that guy" it's "Oh no, I was almost starting to like that guy" especially when 80% of the characters are boring
and they died in really REALLY stupid ways. keyes could've just told someone to do it. vannak was slow for some reason wtf, they already stated it in the show that in training he never lost. they couldn't have just made him die like sam. not because he was weak or slow but because it was out of his control
Christopher Walken impression is on point 😂
Bro im crying 😂 that shit was gold
That impression FUCKED me up 😂😂😂
From now on, I'm gonna have to make my reviews of the next episodes in that voice. Especially if people keep asking about it 😂
@@LaperLarden every time she has a scene 😂
@@LaperLarden yeah bro just do it for every Makee appearance. She's a POW after all.
Prisoner of Walken.
The Captain Cutter with the phone edit killed me bro 🤣
I'm not opposed to an adaptation making creative changes from the source material. The only issue here is that pretty much all of them make the story worse. Keyes no longer gets infected by the flood and instead just has one of those "dies in an explosion" sacrifices that we've seen in every action movie/show
hes not dead he always comes back
@@Freedom_officerwhat are you even talking about "he always comes back"?? You mean Sargeant Johnson?
@@Freedom_officerbro thinks he's William afton
As a guy who never watched or played the games i was kinda disappointed they already knew they lost and gave up on reach. Before this episode i heard how amazing story in halo reach was and how the ending was a hope killer when they noticed lots of ships after so many deaths and sacrifices . in the lore did they gave up from the start like this show?
@boy11 LOL no the battle for Reach was awesome filled with sacrifice and a bloodbath only for the UNSC to get a glimmer of hope until the real Covenant fleet arrived and they still fought to the end buying time. This show is just bad fan fiction, i get wanting to make it your own but it doesnt work when it just a downgrade compared to what we could have gotten
Where the hell do they get these writters?
The bargun bin section from wish.
@@trashmammal454Sure it wasn’t Temu or Alibaba?
From Twitter most likely
The cheapest and wokest ones like most entertainment these days.
Then write the script 😂, they are literally building characters in a tv series not making a fps where master chief just nods and kills aliens, get over it
So this version of the Arbiter gets shot by a needle, it does not detonate, he removes it by hand from his body, it does not detonate, he stabs a human with it, it does not detonate, he removes his hand, only then does the needle detonate. And all of that for another anticlimactic remove of a character.
You're just nitpicking at this point. We've seen other instances where needlers have delayed detonation.
The episode where Chief saves Kai for example. A marine gets pierced by a barrage of needles in the chest. It takes a few seconds to explode.
Kai mentions in another scene that the needles home in on flesh, avoiding armor.
So Arbiter got shot. Several needles just straight up bounce off his armor. One managed to penetrate a bit. But obviously not all the way.
@@CandleWispobviously not all the way
The Fall of Reach was so impactful because it’s the heart of the UNSC. In the book, EVERY Spartan was on the ground, fully armored up, and yet the Covenant still obliterated them. I really don’t understand this show. Apparently a Spartan in fatigues still fights as if they have MJOLNIR, but that’s also somehow the only way they can die.
I think Ackerson will take Keyes place in the proto Gravemind. It would be quite fitting considering how his father was forced to forget everything due to his dementia, and Ackerson will forget everything because of the proto gravemind.
Not totally opposed to this idea.
That is the single most brilliant piece of writing they could think of, how ironic it would be if he had to come back on the pillar of autumn as well lol for say evac or whatever. Someone must do because they see the ring at the end.
Thats actually a good idea so we know that won’t happen
Ackerson plays a huge role on Earth during the battle there though...
Hii, one small thing to 3:33 , In the Books on the "Fall of Reach" the Macs in orbit are also powered by generators on the ground.. The UNSC also tries to keep running them for as long as possible. I think that's what they meant in the scene. Otherwise great video
I was under the impression that some of them had their own internal fusion reactors? But doing some more research, it seems like most ODPs need to be tethered to the ground for power.
That's a cable you wouldn't want to trip over...
@@LaperLardenfunniest thing in this whole situation, it's sometimes wireless if i'm not mistaken, wireless charging definitely came A LONG way in 500 years

There's so much character assassination and sabotage going on in this show they need to call the SAS.
i swear if perez takes the code name "forehammer" and is the ship captain moving forward, i will riot in the streats and heading straight to paramount studios
She becomes a spartan III
That Chrisopher Walkin joke absolutely killed me!!!! 😆 🤣
Not just the recoil, but they didn't even bother to have the guns eject the bullet casings.
I wouldn't say this episode was "good," but I will say that it was more entertaining. There was more to like about it than the other episodes. I agree with your criticism though, which makes me think, do they even have a plan for this show or are they flying by the seat of their pants? Like what story are they actually telling? With Keyes' death, I think it's safe to assume that we are going to get little to no overlap with the plot from the games. They are subverting that story at every opportunity.
The thing I don’t get is that they took the Spartans armor BUT they DIDNT TAKE CORTANA!!!!!
Remember tv logic if not seen you can't assume death. But yeah Keyes death is frustrating.
I mean, he was in the centre of a massive explosion. Then again, Makee tanked a magnum shot to the chest and Jimmy Rings is impervious to a overcharged plasma pistols wearing nothing more than a shirt you can get at Target 😅
Maybe keys was captured
I can kinda see where they were going with this timeline. I think the writers of the show were trying to pull a Game of Thrones main character death thing with this season, showing the sheer loss and defeat of humanity on Reach to really pull the old heart strings by killing off main characters, convincing the audience that no one is safe just like Game of Thrones.
Plot holes go astronomically hard during this episode. Tbf they’re not even plot holes, just bad writing from people who haven’t done research and lack intelligence
When the plot is driven by plot holes, its not a plot hole, it's just a hole.
Feel lucky they haven't shown you the Chief Hole this season.
@@JohnDoe-zj6xf 😂😂😂😂
7:23 They really wanted Cat-2.0
So let me get this straight. Not only did Ackerman ditch Reach, seeing it as a lost cause. But he also purposely handicapped Spartans by taking the Mjolnir with them. And to top it all off he basically HANDED cortana to the enemy even though she literally predicted the Covenant destroying the planet. Ackerma is actually the stupidest person in this show.
Makee comes in with her usual: *" N U T T E L A ! "* ("STOP!") shout, saving Chief's life, as always.
Killing of keys this earlier was a big mistake, nonredeemable. I cant consider myself a Halo fan if I keep watching this, even to see how bad it might be.
Everything else before this was questionable but giving the green light to kill of keyes this early is unforgivable to fans of the 2001 OG game.
Fear not Spartan. Keys is not dead. Theres a rule in hollywood. If you dont see the death on screen, no matter how implied it is, it never actually happened.
@@JiSat Thats the problem with this show it's full of "Hollywood".
exactly, Kai definitely saved him @@JiSat
Command is taking valuable assests off of the planet, leaves cortana on the planet. Also, Chief isn't gonna have his armor on until the seasons end, is he? I just love how they're shitting on an iconic part of the chief. Additionally, The Battle of Reach is supposed to be an epic battlefield, with battles on the ground and in space. And here we have 50 marines and three Spartans without armor.
Nothing in this show makes sense. It flips between idiot plot and straight up nonsense if you think about any scene too long.
From the macro scale where the simple premise of the 'higher ups' abandoning humanities biggest military force in order to 'fight another day', without even giving them warning enough to stall the enemy. Or cortana not being taken or deleted, which raises questions about other computer data... Earth...
... To the micro scale where marines leave defendable positions to die in the dark with no flashlights, elites forget about plasma rifles or cover until it's relevant, or how arbiter just kinda shows up to kill chief, isn't allowed to, and then leaves, without any reason for being there at all and abandoning an opportunity to capture chief.
This one is tough. Honestly I think I like the other episodes better purely from the fact that there’s a few things that really piss me off abt this episode. Namely, why in the ever living fuck would Ackerson leave behind Cortana, one of the UNSCs most important intelligence and military assets, when the whole idea was to save assets to be able to win a fight another day. Another thing, why would the covenant not seize the opportunity to kill chief, the other Spartans, and capture Halsey, which are also extremely important military and intelligence assets. It’s like they just walk up there to kill some marines and fuck off? What purpose does that serve.
This didn't even cross my mind. But holy shit you're bang on the mark. Why did Ackerson leave Cortana if he was so reliant on her for predictions of the Covenant's invasion?
Maybe ackerson took the real and left a copy to throw off the covenant?
Why did the Covenant forget their guns, nearly every covenant had a plasma sword. Spartans don't need armour if the covenant are gunna fight like medieval times.
It is really wild how 343 timed the Vannak helmet to drop the same week he fuckin dies in the show. Like idek if i want to earn his helmet any more, i wish they had showed us Soren's in season one and gave us his instead
This just killed all hope the show had for any actual real Halo fans finding redemption in a Live Action show. They tried 4 times so far, with most being OK.
I really think the producers and writers, as well as directors, should have been familiar with the Halo Bible (created for writing purposes) before adapting a action-shooter into a action-soap.
this is the real first try in adapting Halo with lots of money on the table that saw the light of day
Forward unto dawn and nightfall were very small projects that focused on secondary events
I have a deep deep deep worry that they will get off reach and subsequently go to the Halo ring because kwan is coming to save soren......
Yep. Might as well give Kwan chiefs armour and make her the reclaimer at this point. I fkn hate what they've done to my pride and joy childhood favourite game/lore/story.
Mate, I literally had to pause the vid to write this comment: not a bad Walken impression. Just a tad short on the cowbell though... hehehe
Good vid, as always
Tbf I think they made him not wear his armour for a simple reason. "If your nothing without your armour, then you don't deserve to wear it", hopefully they put him back in it
That Christopher walk-in was on point
Have we even seen an Unggoy yet? Or are we just gonna get Elites doing the street fighting as an excuse to run into Arby? They are honestly missing out on the comic relief that Grunts provide.
They also like making the Elites look dumb as hell in this show. They shouldn't be seen as often as they are. They should be a lot tougher to fight as well. Yet, Silver Team mow them down in the hundreds. Sounds more like the kinda role Grunts should fill.
damn, not one but two black characters gone in one episode.
The best part was the Christopher Walken impression
Small note. When they mention the MAC Cannon Power stations they do say "if we loose those power stations we loose our guns in orbit" so they do have orbital defense platforms in the show.
The Walken impression was great, but when we getting a full Kermit the Frog impression episode recap?
Bro that fucking Christopher Walken impersonation.
that Christopher Walken bit almost killed me 😂
part of me thinks are we going to see the flood at all, now that keyes is dead and they've screwed with any semblance of a good Reach arc
The Christopher Walken part made me cry. Earned my sub😂
Now all we need is an episode of kwuan, qwan? Kicking ass and taking names. Then the meme show will be complete.
My take is that, it's certainly been the most enjoyable episode of the show to date, only to have the final few minutes take a steaming dump. Someone else said it best, the thing that annoys me about the deaths of Keyes and Vannak wasn't that i liked them, it's that i was beginning to like Vannak and, tbh, i didn't really like Keyes all that much. They were shit characters in season 1 to begin with, while Vannak got some much needed personality, and Keyes, as you said, was hyper-dismissive in eps 1-3.
Shit, i was watching the newest episode of a currently airing anime last night (it's had 7 eps so far) and i was leagues more upset at that character's death than i was at either death by Keyes and Vannak.
Sir Walken flashbacks.
Doraleous and Associates is 100x what this show WISHES it could be.
Agree 100% on the muzzle flash. Could have been way better. And killing off Keys, after giving that awesome speech! Damn. But really enjoyed this episode!
The best part of new halo episodes? Getting to watch Laper’s commentary after 😂
I just want the old Cortana back. S2 Cortana looks weird.
Oh here's a warning. There isn't going to be a pillar of autumn. They will get to halo from that stupid ass portal on quans home planet.
I agree that there won't be a pillar of autumn, I think Kwan is gonna come in and rescue them....... 😭😭😭😭😭
So fkn sad. SO sad. They have completely gutted halo and a bunch of brainless are clapping along defending it as "this isn't cannon!" No.. it's not even halo.
@dartskihutch4033 the people who make these shows don't respect any writing that isn't there generic slop. They think they can do better then the original because they don't respect the medium of games. It's the same shit that happened with the avatar Netflix show.
what a minute, a fortified planet under attack by a space enemy force and the survivors of the defenders are recued by an outsider who opens a portal on the planet to take them away before is destroyed...great, they are ripping off the fall of cadia from warhammer 40k.
3.5/10 for me.. Took forever for Chief to get to FleetCom and no armor at all makes this lackluster as it wouldve fit perfectly in this episode or atleast a older battle worn version that couldve been the OG Macworld version or something. Also Keyes death was so stupid and he shouldve commanded Perez to disconnect the lines or have a quick disconnect from the ship to the lines instead of the lines to the console.... Also wouldve helped if Soren did something at that moment to build up his character with Keyes and Halsey. Also Makee is making this show so worse by being back. And the whole gay blind albino black kamikaze scene is sooo /sigh lol I mean talking about a DEI ESG inclusion standard diversity equality sponsorship and identity hire. And wtf is up with the one scorpion tank and 20 marines for the main fleetcom evac... Makes the game Halo Reach seem sooo much greater... I was expecting some shuttles being shot down and waves of phantoms and carriers dropping in. While ODSTs and Spartan III's doing sidewinder attacks. Keyes couldve told Chief about his backup plan of the Pillar of Autumn being at the shipyard for repairs and it being their last ride out of here after helping the civilians evac from FleetCom.
Cortana was purposefully left behind for Makee to take. Cortana can cause viruses to enemy computers, gather intel, cause division among the covenant, etc. Cortana will likely be the catalyst for a change in whose winning the war.
Vannick dying really fit the feeling of reach and all but noble six die in the end. With the way things are going I would not doubt that Rizz also dies before the season is over. However the potential of show drops so much with Keys out of the picture, that was a TERRIBLE writing move. His character had so much more to pull viewers in before dropping him that is a shame to do it not and in this way
This is clearly not the prime game universe. It was confirmed when Keyes sacrificed himself. No Pillar Of Autum?
Good video, mostly ageee, just a few nitpicks, they should try to show recoil, but on a spartan is okay if they can be steady,i meam they are spartans, and they talk about mac orbital defenses, they say covenant were aiming for the generators to shut them off
LOLOL ok I lost it at the christopher walken bit, but it needed a little more cowbell...
Wild guest appearance from Christopher 😂
I think the show would have been better if they shot down the civilian transport with Perez on it ...
The cgi from season 1 was much better. I can’t believe that I am saying this 😂
you know it's the showrunners picking the cheapest clueless writers and toning down the budget on CGI by making everything foggy, shaky and dark so they can put the most in their pockets. almost like 343
6:17 bro 😭💀the anger was palpable
Everything you complained about were the same as mine. I’m so fucking pissed that they went this route just when I was just beginning to enjoy season 2.
imagine John fighting without his armor. never seen worse scenes
Master cheeks
I had a feeling that before ep 5 that all the sparton will end even John. Since Riz was also gone!
I'm going to take a more personal position on Vannack and the Admiral being killed off. HOW you gonna kill off 2 of the 3 Black characters on the show IN THE SANE EPISODE? Vannack was giving off serious Mike Tyson vibes feeding the pigeons and I wanted more of that. Thanks dude. I just discovered your channel but I'm gonna follow you now
That Christopher Walken impression took me out
I see what they were going for, it's the point where all the characters die.
BUT, it would only work if season 1 was good. Or like if there was a few extra episodes.
It's insane how even afterwards and a change in direction, season 1 still ruins the show.
new writers tieing off loose ends
Ye, why kill the gay dudes and perez's family when we've only seen them twice and the second was quickly. Like yea I have empathy, its objectively sad, sure, but I was excited for them being in the show cus...idk human connections or whatever, but they didnt let us connect with them. I was more confused than sad. ''Nobody is safe'' bs that writers try to copy from GoT doesnt work if you dont understand it ffs
I doubt this show will have a flood subplot, the writers are too busy writing more Master Cheeks yeehaw scenes.
Review aside, I think you should switch all your videos to Christopher Walken voiceovers. That was too on point and too good to just be a passing comment.
6:18
You put more passion and emotion into that one FUCK than this entire writing team put into this show
One question: does cortana die?
To be honest I was like: maybe this could be before the game: HALO:REACH (in this show universe of course). But then Keyes dies and I was like: Okay maybe not. 😂 But still i enjoyed it and teared up when reach was getting destroyed (and when Vannak with Keyes died.) Because HALO:REACH is my most favourite HALO game and seeing that destruction again... emotions were strong for me in this episode I really want to see that installation ring and flood at least in the last episode of this season.
Please respect my opinion that I like this show 😄🙏
Have a nice day!
Every bit of goodwill they had built up with me this season is instantly destroyed. That episode was an abomination.
Every likeable character died, Spartans don’t have suits because reasons. But don’t worry! We still have Kwan Ha, and Makee. Who are both gross distortions of the story
I'm hoping that they give Vannak the Linda treatment tbh
I was wondering if they’d do a Linda fake out death this season.
Stuff him in a Cryo pod and wait till they can afford his actor again for season 3? Sounds a'ight to me.
@@LaperLarden ye
Bullpup rifles are just REALLY good at producing less recoil 😅
IT DID SUCK. Thanks for taking the time to save me the time. Nice watching some Halo 4.

Maybe Keyes is actually alive and was actually captured before the explosion. 🤷🏻♂️ he was captured in the game.... and he kept saying "he'll be back" in the ship. Who knows ......
Waited over a decade for the show not to be canon
I can tell they are going for an Iron Man/Spiderman "You don't deserve the suit if you're nothing without it" vibe, and frankly I think they executed it quite well. But it just bugs me seeing Sliver Team without their armor. Especially when the reason sounds a bit forced.
Also, somehow no one has an energy sheild in this season. I thought it might just be an VFX error in the first few episode (like that wooden plasma pistol in season 1), but apparently the technology just lost in between seasons I guess?
I agree it kind of fits with what the writers are trying to say but is not at all congruent with actual halo. And also doesn’t Vannak dying to the needle round kind of imply they do need the armor?
@@carlosminetti3685 lmao, I don't think the writers noticed that. My thought is they kill him just because he feels more Chief than Jimmy Ring.
Did anyone actually watch the episode. I guess not so I'll tell you. ACKERSON TOOK THE ARMOR.
@@danielpickrell8311 bro we have eyes and saw the episode. We know in universe Ackerson took the armor. What we are fucking baffled by is the show runners writing the Spartans out of armor. Like it can’t be this hard to write a halo show. Give us Spartans in their armor killing covenant like come on. Without their armor, I could be watching any other show which makes me think that the writers want to write their own show and are just using the halo brand for easy eyeballs
@@carlosminetti3685
There's nothing wrong with Spartan's without armor. A Spartan is not just the mjolnir, but the highly augmented and trained soldier inside it.
It's an interesting angle to explore, and it heightens the tension.
Stories are allowed to innovate and change.
I haven't even played halo yet but i know the general story and i was sitting watching this show like wtf this is NOT halo
Had the same thoughts about Keyes/Johnson being morphed into one character.
Though, not that it matters now... Ffs.
Calling it now - Miranda becomes captain of the Pillar of Autumn, and Sgt. Johnson replaces Vannak
The most interesting reveal to me this episode was John-117 explaining how he can see/predict the future. That explains some of his finishes of Covenant grunts and confidence overall. I'd prefer John recovers faster after a fight (as a Spartan, I image him having a heart rate of 40 bpm after taking out a Covenant Elite), and I think they could lean harder into him being really smart, as they showed in Season 1. As someone not originally invested in the Halo games, but just a sci-fi fan -- this is a really, really good show! Different mediums, people!
After "hate watching" episodes 1-4, and screaming at my television throughout each episode, I have made the decision to stop for the sake of my blood pressure and mental health. I grew up playing the games and reading the novels. Call me a nerd, but I can't help but feel a nostalgic love for the universe created by the Halo IP; so watching this adaptation has felt like watching the slow, methodical torture of a loved one. At this point, I don't want my "gotta watch the train wreck" viewership to count towards some metric that Paramount+ touts as a positive, so I am done. The actors and creative team behind this adaptation could have done something magical. They could have been so loved by a massive community of die hard fans. Instead, they chose to pander. It would be funny if it wasn't so god damned sad.
lol the show killed the ones we actually liked for some reason. they probably hate us. who should we like next so they get dead?
chief charges "arbiter" for some reason even tho they already established chief had a hard time fighting elites cqc with out armor.
makee just spawns out of no where for the second time and no one head shots her.
why is no one dragging vannak's body to a cryo?
Nice Christopher Walken voice dude lol that surprised me
High asf rn and I lost it at the Christopher Walken bit
Chief and Keyes have a conversation about Orbital Defense Platforms(I think). Keyes said the Covenant are trying to disable them so that they can bring their entire fleet to Reach’s surface.
I'm from Mexico City and I live very close to Xochimilco, that's where the part about the boats (las trajineras) was recorded, it honestly seemed surreal to me lol
While it wasn’t as great as it could’ve been with more marines and Spartans wearing their armor, it was the best ep yet.
Soren is probably going to replace Vanek and give him a arm and give them a prosthetic one
It was an awesome episode
another point to the idea that there isnt going to be flood
what about the automatic battle rifles?
something something cant even do a little research
Yes it sucks as far as I can Reach! 😂😂😂😂. It does blow though, bug time
Was insane that they killed those two off..
